Raymond Gagelman 1920-2004
Raymond Gagelman, 83, of Great Bend, died May 28 at Great Bend. He was born May 30, 1920, at Troy, the son of Edward and Anna Ruhnke Gagelman. He married Betty Jean Mauch June 29, 1947, in Great Bend. She died Nov. 23, 2000. A resident of Great Bend most of his life, he was a retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Great Bend. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a technician 4th grade.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice R. Klepper and husband David, and Starla Gagelman, all of Great Bend; one sister, Henrietta Nuss of Great Bend; and two grandchildren, Lindsay Peters and husband Eric, and Dallas Klepper, all of Great Bend. He was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Richter.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend, with the Rev. James Strasen officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, all at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to the church or Great Bend Humane Society, both in care of the funeral home.

Jebadiah James ‘Jeb’ Manning 1981-2004
HAYS — Jebadiah James “Jeb” Manning, 23, died May 21 at his parents’ home in Hays. He was born April 22, 1981, at Wichita, the son of Jim and Janie Hickel Manning. He was a graduate of Hays High School and North Central Kansas Technical College. He married Amanda Ehrlich July 30, 2003. A resident of Hays, coming from Flippin, Ark., and Ness City, he was a student at Fort Hays State University, majoring in psychology, and employed by Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas.
Manning was a member of Hays City Sportsman’s Club and United States Autosound Competition, winning fourth place in the world competition.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Gavin of the home; his parents of Hays; and one sister, Elly Manning of Hays.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Messiah Lutheran Church in Hays. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations for Jeb Manning’s son’s education in care of Hays Memorial Chapel, 20th and Pine, Hays, KS 67601.

Maurice Lee Huenergardt 1920-2004
OTIS — Maurice Lee Huenergardt, 83, passed away May 19 at Calabasas, Calif. He was born Aug. 26, 1920, the son of Adam and Mollie Burbach Huenergardt. He graduated from Otis High School and later received a major in Industrial Arts and a minor in English from Fort Hays State University. He taught school in Winona and Oakley for awhile. On Aug. 31, 1957, he married Betty Oetken in Raton, N.M. Betty brought a daughter, Sharon, from a previous marriage into this union. This marriage brought forth three daughters, Gwen, Maureen and Heidi. He also taught school in Hudson, Ness City and farmed his parent’s land.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Floyd; and two sisters, Elma and Leona. He is survived by his wife Betty; four daughters, Sharon and husband Ron Fuller of Wichita, Gwen and husband Martin Wareham of Calabasas, Maureen Huenergardt of Great Bend and Heidi Huenergardt of Wichita; one grandson, Blake Huenergardt Wareham of Calabasas; and one sister, Bette Greene of Des Moines, Iowa.
Huenergardt was a member of FHSU Alumni Association, Otis Lions Club, La Crosse Seventh Day Adventist Church, a former vice-president of National Farmers Union and former president of Lewis Field Pioneer Club.
A memorial service will be held at the La Crosse Seventh Day Adventist Church, 8th and Columbia, at 3 p.m. May 31 with burial at Shaffer Seventh Day Adventist Cemetery.
Maurice and his family has requested no flowers but to send a memorial donation to either Southwind Hospice, P.O. Box 862, Pratt, KS 67124, or Three Angels Broadcasting Network, P.O. Box 220, West Frankfort, Ill. 62896.

Urban Louis Hitschmann 1933-2004
Urban Louis Hitschmann, 71, of Great Bend, died May 25 at Central Kansas Medical Center. He was born March 21, 1933, at Redwing, the son of Frank and Veronica “Fron” Feltes Hitschmann. He married Glenda M. Wurm Oct. 5, 1955, at Larned. She preceded him in death Jan. 23, 2003.
Urb was a graduate of St. John’s Military Academy of Hays. He served in the military from 1952-1954, stationed in Germany. Upon his return, he attended St. Louis University in St. Louis, Mo. He was co-owner of Beaver Bowling Alley and general manager of Beaver Grain Corp. Inc. of Beaver before moving to Great Bend, where he worked for Great Bend Co-op before his retirement. After retiring, he worked for Mid-Continent L-P Services, Commercial Federal and American State Bank.
Urb was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include his five children, Marlin R. Hitschmann and his wife Michele of Hoisington; Kimberly K. Hoffman and her husband Jim of Stafford, Curtis L. Hitschmann and his wife Kathy of Hoisington, Craig A. Hitschmann and his wife Ronda of Natoma and Tina M. Johnson of Hoisington; one brother, Everett Hitschmann of Redwing; one sister, Mary Urban of Great Bend; his companion, Roberta “Bert” Brack of Great Bend; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Tiffany Johnson.
Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. today at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with Father Reginald Urban officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph cemetery in Beaver. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Heartland Cancer Center or St. Joseph Cemetery, both in care of the funeral home.

Sister Winifred Riebel, ASC 1925-2004
WICHITA — Sister Winifred Riebel, ASC, 78, died May 21. She was born June 1, 1925, in Ness City, the daughter of Clem and Anna Dinges Riebel. Her first profession was Aug. 10, 1941. She was a pastoral care provider for the homebound, hospitals and nursing homes in the Enid, Okla., area.
Survivors include seven brothers, Norbert Riebel and his wife Twila of Great Bend, Paul Riebel and his wife Pearl of Wichita, John Riebel and his wife Rita of Minneola, Victor Riebel and his wife Wilma of Ness City, Willie Riebel and his wife Mary Ann of Dighton, Melvin Riebel and his wife Norma of Preston, Mo., and Leon Riebel and his wife Joyce of Las Vegas, Nev.; four sisters, Sister Florentia Riebel, ASC, of Enid, Sister Leona Riebel, ASC, of College Park, Md., Sister Barbara Riebel, ASC, of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Arlene Drake and her husband Kenneth of Great Bend.
Funeral Mass was held at Adorers of the Blood of Christ on Tuesday in Wichita. Memorials are suggested for the retirement of Sisters ASC, 1165 Southwest Blvd., Wichita, KS 67213. DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Melissa Ann Osborn 1968-2004
ELLINWOOD — Melissa Ann Osborn, born Nov. 4, 1968, at Ellinwood, died May 22 of complications due to cystic fibrosis and diabetes. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Services, 3717 West Central, Wichita.
She graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1987. She was employed at Industries for the Blind in Wichita.
She is survived by her companion, Bob Martin of Wichita; her mother, Sherin Osborn of Lawton, Okla.; her brother, Robert Young of Lawton/Ft. Sill, Okla.; her maternal grandmother, Cozette Deen of Safford, Ariz.; three children, Amber Osborn, Heather Osborn and Matthew Osborn, all of Wichita; and two uncles, Stanley Deen of Ellinwood and Mike Deen of Montana. She was preceded in death by her father, Bobby D. Osborn, her grandfather, Donald Deen and an uncle, Morgan Deen.
Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, in care of the funeral home.

Mary M. Powers 1915-2004
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Mary M. Powers, 89, died May 24 at Mercy Medical
Center after a long illness. She was born Feb. 14, 1915, in Lisbon, Iowa. She married Millard “Dean” Powers July 24, 1938, in Cedar Rapids.
He died in 1965. A resident of Cedar Rapids, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of Noelridge Park Christian Church.
Survivors include three sons, Donald Powers of Great Bend, James Powers of Albia, Iowa, and Robert Powers of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Karen.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Dr. Doug Miller officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home and after noon Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established, in care of Cedar Memorial Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.

Donald Edward Dipman 1930-2004
LARNED — Donald Edward Dipman, 74, died May 23 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born March 3, 1930, in Larned, the son of Charles E. and Lillian G. Clark Dipman. He married Lois Faye Greider June 11, 1953, in Portsmouth, Va. She died Jan. 18, 2003. A resident of the Larned area since 1968, he was a senior chief boatswain’s mate before retiring after 20 years in the U.S. Navy, and was an employee for Sanford Co-op.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Dipman of Riverside, Calif., and Donald W. Dipman of Topeka; two daughters, Linda Dipman of Great Bend and Sharon Price of Larned; two brothers, Allen Dipman of Larned and Damon Dipman of Holly, Colo.; one sister, Rewena Sheradin of Wichita; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned, with the Rev. Roger Alford officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest cemetery in Great Bend with military graveside rites. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Wednesday at the chapel. Memorials are suggested to Church of the Nazarene, in care of the mortuary.
