Glenn H. Sprague 1931-2004
Glenn H. Sprague, 73, of Great Bend, died June 24 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born May 23, 1931, the son of Harold W. and Mabel C. Cole Sprague. He married Faye E. Ecklund Feb. 15, 1951, at Denver, Colo. They were divorced. A resident of Great Bend for one year, coming from Elizabeth, Colo., he was a contractor.
Sprague was a member of American Legion of Elizabeth and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Survivors include three sons, Michael Sprague of Hays, Steven Sprague of Denver and Karl Sprague of Great Bend; and nine grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or services. Memorials are suggested to Central Kansas Library System in care of Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend.

Charles Henry McKenzie 1911-2004
NESS CITY — Charles Henry McKenzie, 92, died June 24 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born Dec. 1, 1911, in Eureka, the son of Franklin Kenneth and Katherine Doering McKenzie. He married Frances Margery Johnson Feb. 27, 1953, in Wichita. She preceded him in death. A resident of Ness City for 28 years, coming from Wichita, he was a farmer and carpenter.
He was a member of Parkview Presbyterian Church of Wichita.
Survivors include three sons, Bill McKenzie of Piedmont, Jerry McKenzie of Albuquerque, N.M., and Robert Razey of Bonney Lake, Wash.; two daughters, Charlene Milhon of Great Bend and Roberta “Birdie” White Harrell of LaPine, Ore.; one brother, William McKenzie of Eureka; three sisters, Eleanor, Ruth and Alice; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home in Ness City, with the Rev. Bruce Ferguson officiating. Burial will be at Ness City Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to donor’s choice, in care of the funeral home.

Dennis Wayne Latimer 1941-2004
CHANUTE — Dennis Wayne Latimer, 63, died June 24 at Cedar Vale Nursing Home in Cedar Vale. He was born Feb. 8, 1941, at Hoisington, the son of Earl and Estella Bott Latimer. A resident of Hoisington, coming from Stark and Erie, he was a laborer.
Survivors include one brother, Marvin Latimer of Augusta; and one sister, Genevieve Plotts of Stark. He was preceded in death by a brother, Don Latimer.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Hoisington cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Flanders officiating. Burial will be at Hoisington Cemetery. There is no visitation or memorials established. Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home of Hoisington is in charge of arrangements.

Rosie K. Jacobs 1918-2004
LA CROSSE — Rosie K. Jacobs, 85, died June 22 at her home in La Crosse. She was born Sept. 24, 1918, at rural Timken, the daughter of Mike Stejskal and Mollie Hanzlick Stejskal. She married Joe L. Schloemer. They were divorced and he died Jan. 1, 1988. She married Eugene Jacobs July 20, 1963, at Loretto. A lifelong resident of Rush County, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church of La Crosse.
Survivors include her husband of La Crosse; two sons, Nick G. Jacobs of Great Bend and Michael D. Jacobs of Albert; one daughter, Jacquelin S. Moses of Alta Vista; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by seven brothers, John Stejskal, Lester Stejskal, George Stesjkal, Ralph Stesjkal, Charlie Stesjkal, Ludwick Stejskal and Frank Stesjkal; and one sister, Emily Schroter.
Vigil service and rosary will be today at 7 p.m. at the Janousek Funeral home in La Crosse. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Charles Mazouch officiating. Burial will be at La Crosse City Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. today with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Rush County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care of La Crosse in care of the funeral home.

Stanley F. Herrman 1950-2004
ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Stanley F. Herrman, 53, died June 20 at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Ala. He was born Nov. 19, 1950, at Hays, the son of Gilbert J. and Lillian M. Brungardt Herrman.
Survivors include his mother of Goddard; and two brothers, Arthur J. Herrman of Maize and Wayne L. Herrman of Phoenix, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his longtime significant other, Bonnie Sedano.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in La Crosse with the Rev. Charles Mazouch officiating. Burial will be at La Crosse City Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Stanley F. Herrman Memorial in care of the funeral home.

Rose H. Lanterman Tournear Root 1897-2004
WICHITA — Rose H. Lanterman Tournear Root, 107, homemaker and business woman, died June 21. Graveside service is at 11 a.m. Thursday at Graceland cemetery in Lyons. She was born Feb. 11, 1897, in Ellinwood. She is a part of the Lanterman family which settled in the Ellinwood area in the mid 1800s and was the oldest living Kansas native.
Mrs. Root received letters from President Bill Clinton, President George Bush, Governor Bill Graves and Governor Kathleen Sebelius recognizing her entry into the “centenarian society.”
She is preceded in death by sons, Irving Tournear and Wallace Lee Tournear, and daughter, Mildred Lucille Jacobs. Survivors include a daughter, Henrietta Henson of Wichita; grandchildren and spouses, Ronnie and Barbara Tournear, and Larry and Dorothy Tournear, all of Great Bend, Gary and Sally Tournear of Colorado Springs, Colo., Dwane and Theresa Jacobs of Valley Center, Lonnie and Janette Jones of Wichita, and Gail Tournear of Larned; and 14 great-grandchildren from Michigan, Arizona and Texas. Michael E. Helsel 1949-2004
GODDARD — Michael E. Helsel, 55, Digital Office Systems technician, passed away June 21.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Broadway Mortuary Chapel in Wichita. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Fairlawn cemetery in Hutchinson.
Survivors include his wife Trudy; son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Tonya Helsel of Wichita; father and stepmother, Dale and Rosina Helsel of Great Bend; half-brothers, Jerry Helsel of Topeka, Gerry Helsel of Great Bend; stepbrother, Michael Wilson of Wichita; sisters, Pat Davison of Roanoke, Va., and Nancy Strain of Great Bend; stepsister, Debra Shank of Great Bend; and grandchildren, Tara Fletcher and Harley Helsel.
A memorial has been established with the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation.

Patrick ‘Pat’ Smith O’Connor 1915-2004
ST. JOHN — Patrick “Pat” Smith O’Connor, 88, died June 21 at Leisure Homestead. He was born Nov. 18, 1915, in St. John, the son of James G. Blaine and Pearl Florence O’Connor. He was a 1934 graduate of St. John High School and attended Washburn University. He married Blanche Mildred Keenan March 29, 1937, at Seward. She preceded him in death. A lifetime resident of St. John, he was a farmer and stockman.
He was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, both of St. John.
Survivors include one son, Kevin Keenan O’Connor of Wichita; three daughters, Patricia Joan O’Connor of San Francisco, Calif., Marcia L. Smith of San Antonio, Texas, and Celia Ann Burke of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one sister, Katherine J. Helmer of Hutchinson; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Perry J. O’Connor; one daughter, Rita McCandless; and one sister, Gretchen Edney.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Minnis Chapel in St. John. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Rene Guesnier officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park cemetery in St. John. Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to Leisure Homestead of St. John or the church, both in care of the funeral chapel.

KANSAS CITY — Vera H. Salyer, 100, died June 22. She was a retired U.S. Post Office accounting employee.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Marilyn Salyer of Great Bend; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Chapel Hill cemetery in Kansas City. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Margaret Holl Memorial Chapel, Presbyterian Manor. Memorials are suggested to Good Samaritan Fund, Wichita Presbyterian Manor, 4700 W. 13th, Wichita, KS 67212.

Grace Mae Watkins 1902-2004
Grace Mae Watkins, 101, of Great Bend, died June 19 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation. She was born Oct. 25, 1902, the daughter of Jesse L. and Lila M. Fetterolf Hulse. She married Roy Byron Watkins Nov. 4, 1920, at Stockton. He died Jan. 28, 1976. A resident of Great Bend after living in Stockton for 62 years, she was a maid for Zarah Hotel and Holiday Inn, retiring in 1971.
She was a member of First Christian Church of Great Bend.
Survivors include four sons, Chester Watkins and Cleo E. Watkins, both of Great Bend, Lloyd E. Watkins of Newkirk, Okla., and Jesse M. Watkins of Jacksonville, Fla.; one daughter, Thelda Mae Jaurez of Irrigan, Ore.; one brother, Dean Hulse of Stockton; two sisters, Edna Johnson of Stockton and Evelyn Tegarden of Great Bend; 21 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Leo Wayne Watkins.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with the Rev. Paxton Jones officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to service time today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.
