Mildred M. Crabtree 1914-2004
WINFIELD — Mildred M. Crabtree, 90, died June 1 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield. She was born May 23, 1914, in Winfield, the daughter of William E. and Eva S. Lawrence Walker. She was a 1932 graduate of Winfield High School. She married Harry E. Brashear Dec. 27, 1934, in Winfield. He died in 1960. She married H.K. “Bill” Crabtree Sept. 30, 1961, in Winfield. He died Dec. 6, 1996. A longtime resident of Winfield, coming from Montana and Shawnee, Okla., she had run a donut shop in Shawnee.
She was a member of First Christian Church in Winfield and Rebecca Lodge in Shawnee.
Survivors include two sons, Charles G. Brashear of Winfield and Leland W. Brashear of Hoisington; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Eva Doreen; and two brothers, William Wesley Walker and Billy Dean Walker.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Burial will follow at Highland cemetery in Winfield. Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. today. Memorials are suggested in Mrs. Crabtree’s name to the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home.

Paul Gooch Phillips Sr. 1914-2004
Paul Gooch Phillips Sr., 89, of Great Bend, died June 1 at Hutchinson Hospital in Hutchinson. He was born Sept. 6, 1914, at Portland, Ore., the son of Edward William and Alta Gooch Phillips. He married Winifred Whitman Nov. 23, 1935, at Lyons. A resident of Great Bend since 1935, coming from Larned, he retired from Skelly Oil Company in 1979.
He was a member of First Christian Church of Great Bend.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Paul G. Phillips Jr. of Hutchinson; one daughter, Marilyn Hamill of O’Fallon, Mo.; two sisters, Vera Robbins of Larned and Bea Flagler of Wichita; three grandchildren, Kevin Hamill, Todd Hamill and Tori Tschannen; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Phillips and Kermit Phillips.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with the Rev. William F. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time Friday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church or Heartland Cancer Center, both in care of the funeral home.

Terry D. Keeley 1929-2004
LARNED —Terry D. Keeley, loving husband, father and grandfather, 74, died at home on May 28, 2004. He was born Nov. 18, 1929, at Larned, the son of James Edward and Leeta McConnaughhay Keeley of Pawnee Rock. He has been a resident of Great Bend since June 1993, moving from Larned.
Terry graduated from Larned High School in 1947. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1951 and his Masters degree in Administration in 1959, both from Fort Hays State University in Hays. He received his Doctorate in Educational Psychology in 1965 from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo.
He married Barbara Olene Foster of North Platte, Neb., at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Denver, Colo., on Sept. 19, 1953.
Terry was a dedicated teacher, coach and administrator. He was a teacher and coach for three years at Radium.
He served two years on active duty during the Korean War, was with the 517th Medical Company in Dad Kreuznach, Germany, where he and Barbara resided for 22 months. During this time in Germany, their eldest son, Terry D. Jr., “Todd, ” was born.
Returning to the United States, he taught and coached several more years at Beattie and Minneola. He was superintendent of schools at Zook for three years. Upon receiving his doctorate, Terry was director of staff development at Larned State Hospital for 10 years.
Following those 10 years, he was the counselor and girls basketball coach at Larned High School for four years. He then became principal at Larned High School for the next 14 years. His last year at Larned, he was superintendent of schools, retiring in June 1993.
Terry was of the Christian Faith. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and also belonged to the Order of the Masons.
Survivors include his wife of the home; Terry D. “Todd” Jr., of Pawnee Rock and Mike and his wife Jan of Great Bend; four grandchildren, Matthew Foster Keeley of Olathe, Christy, Cindy and Beth Keeley of the home; three brothers, John, Patrick and wife Phyllis of Texoma, Okla., James Lee of Larned, Thomas Mac and wife, Althea of Dodge City; one sister, Merrilee Hester of Auburn, Calif., in addition to many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by; his parents, a brother, Justin June, and a beloved brother-in-law, LeRoy Hester of Auburn, Calif.
Funeral will be held on Thursday, June 3, at 10 a.m. at the Methodist Church in Larned, with the Dr. Loren Lutes officiating.
Friends may call today, June 2, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned. Burial will be at the Larned cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Honor Guard of Fort Riley.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Golden Belt Home Health, and Hospice of Great Bend, both in care of the mortuary.

Lucy L. Parker 1920-2004
MACKSVILLE — Lucy L. Parker, 84, died May 29 at Leisure Homestead in St. John. She was born Feb. 25, 1920, at Thornfield, Mo., the daughter of George A. and Grace A. Lawson Johnson. She married Herbert Parker. He died in 1983. A longtime resident of Macksville, she was the retired owner and operator of Lucy’s Sundries.
She was a member of Macksville Christian Church and Macksville Mustang Buster Club, both of Macksville.
Survivors include two sons, Ralph Parker of Arvada, Colo., and Ron Parker of Tucson, Ariz.; one brother, Alvie Johnson of Springfield, Mo.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Willie Johnson; and four sisters, Eva Kasting, Ruth Goodnight, Mildred Turner and Thermie Turner.
Graveside memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Farmington cemetery in Macksville, with the Rev. Carey Haner officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Leisure Homestead of St. John, in care of Morell Funeral Home of Larned.

Thelma DuBois 1909-2004
Thelma DuBois, 95, died May 30 at Hospice House in Hutchinson. She was born March 20, 1909, at La Crosse, the daughter of Leonard and Blanche Plunkett Krause. She married Clinton DuBois March 17, 1925, in Great Bend. He died Jan. 17, 1966. A Great Bend resident since 1925, coming from Coffeyville, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. DuBois was a member of First United Methodist Church, Eastern Star and Central Kansas Medical Center Auxiliary, all in Great Bend, and the American Association of Retired Persons.
Survivors include two sons: Don DuBois and wife Mayme of Almena, and Gene DuBois and wife Betty of Satanta; son-in-law Tom Stringer of Hutchinson; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Stringer; one sister, Carol Powers; and one granddaughter, Jeana Marie Schuster.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend with the Rev. Gary Brooks officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great Bend. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Hospice House or First United Methodist Church.

Donald Dean “Beaver” Zimmerman Jr. 1956-2004
Donald Dean “Beaver” Zimmerman Jr., 47, died May 29 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born Sept. 1, 1956, at Great Bend, the son of Donald and Betty Sanders Zimmerman. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. A self-employed painter, he lived in Oregon most of his life, retiring two years ago and returning to Great Bend.
Zimmerman was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include his parents of Great Bend; one son, Zachary Zimmerman, Dallas, Ore.; one daughter, Melissa Zimmerman, Dallas, Ore.; three brothers, Ronald Zimmerman and Joey Zimmerman of Great Bend and Denny Zimmerman of Clinton, Ark.; and three sisters, Yvonne Sumner, Norcatur, Debbie Branstetter, Claremore, Okla., and Linda Johnson, Great Bend. He was preceded in death by one brother, Rick Zimmerman.
Vigil service will be at 6:15 p.m. today at the church. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Reginald A. Urban officiating. Inurement will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Catholic Communities of Great Bend.

Nellie Claire Doty 1915-2004
PRATT — Nellie Claire Doty, 89, died May 30 at Pratt Regional Living Center. She was born March 14, 1915, at Longmont, Colo., the daughter of Carl and Nellie Shaw Poland. She married Cash Clayton Doty Aug. 1, 1931, at Hutchinson. He died March 11, 1963. She married Leroy Clayton Doty Feb. 2, 1966, at Tijuana, Mexico. He died in October 1992. A homemaker, she spent her last days at Pratt Regional Living Center.
Mrs. Doty attended First Church of the Nazarene in Pratt.
Survivors include one son, Robert Franklin Doty of Anderson, Calif.; seven daughters, Viola Wagner and Sarah “Jane” Mayes of Pratt, Nellie “Ann” Boese of Great Bend, Betty Shelton and Molly Likens of Cunningham, Amy Dinsmore of Monet, Mo., and Bonnie Ruth Evans of Medicine Lodge; 43 grandchildren, 80 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters, one grandson and two great-grandsons.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Ron Moser officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Canton cemetery in Canton. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 8 tonight at Larrison Mortuary in Pratt. Memorials are suggested to SouthWind Hospice or Pratt Regional Living Center in care of the mortuary.

Mildred Caroline Strecker McFall Neeley 1922-2004
HOISINGTON — Mildred Caroline Strecker McFall Neeley, 81, died March 27 at Central Kansas Medical Center. She was born Oct. 22, 1922 at Russell, the daughter of Henry C. and Caroline O. ‘Keil’ Strecker. She was a 1940 graduate of Hoisington High School and attended Fort Hays State University. A resident of Hoisington, coming from Denver, Colo., she taught school at District 66 in Galatia for two years, worked at the Air Force Base in Great Bend, was a nurses aid at St. Rose Hospital, worked in the civil service in Colorado and later became a telephone operator for Mountain Bell and Oregon Teleco until her retirement in 1987.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Great Bend.
Survivors include three sons, Mark G. McFall of Riverside, Calif., Miles McFall of Seattle, Wash., and Nathanael J. Neeley of Tyler, Texas; one brother, Paul H. Strecker of Galatia; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter; and two stepgrandsons. She was preceded by an infant sister, Esther Irene Strecker.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Galatia with the Rev. James A. Strasen officiating. Burial will be at Fairview cemetery in Galatia. There is no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington.

Susan G. Curtis 1932-2004
Susan G. Curtis, 71, of Great Bend, died March 28 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. She was born May 6, 1932, at Howard County, the daughter of McKean and Ruth Lord Carter. She married Larry Curtis April 23, 1955, at Tucumcari, N.M. He died Jan. 1, 2001. A resident of Great Bend for 42 years, coming from Stafford she was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Steven Curtis of Great Bend and David Curtis of Port Arthur, Texas; one brother, Bill Carter of Hays; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, William Carter and one daughter, Peggy Fischer.
Memorial service and inurnment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Peace Church cemetery in Hudson with the Rev. Al Hatten officiating. Memorials are suggested to Susan G. Curtis Memorial Fund in care of Charter Funerals in Great Bend.
