LILA HINES
Lyla Hines, 74, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at her residence. She was cremated. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa, with Rev. Keith Jones, First Assembly of God Church, officiating. She was born Nov. 4, 1926, in Vining, Minn., to Helmer and Lena (Moinicken) Tollefson. She graduated from Henning (Minnesota) High School in 1944. She moved to Ottawa from Albany, Mo. 20 years ago. She had previously lived at Osage, Iowa and Marshall, Mo. She was a homemaker and childcare provider. She married B. J. Hines on May 3, 1947 in Minneapolis, Minn. He preceded her in death Feb. 20, 1979. She was a member of the Lutheran denomination. She is survived by a son, Doug Hines, Allyn, Wash.; a daughter, Ginger Bealmer, Ottawa; two brothers, Bill Tollefson, Dallas, Texas, and Harvey Tollefson, Midwest City, Okla.; a sister, Diane Thomas, Columbia Falls, Minn.; three grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by three brothers, Roger Tollefson, Myron Tollefson, and Curtis Tollefson, and a sister, Harriett Tollefson. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date. She was cremated. Memorials may be made to Midland Hospice in care of Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa KS 66067.

JAMES EARL 'JIMMIE' PETERS
MARION - James Earl "Jimmie" Peters, 20, Marion, died Sunday, May 6, 2001, as a result of a airplane crash at Wichita. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion, with Rev. Michael Linn officiating. He was born June 9, 1980, to Edwin Earl Peters and Judith Devore in Newton. He attended school in Hillsboro, and junior high and high school at Marion. He attended one year at KSU Salina Aviation Department and one year at Hesston College of Aviation. He was a member of the Marion County Aviation Association. He is survived by his father and wife Sally of Marion; half sisters, Beverly House, Belle Plain, Jane Bolte, Newton, and Cindy Magers, Paola, and grandparents, Loyd and Freida Peters, Richmond. He is preceded in death by his mother, Judith Devore who died in 1990. Inurnment services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Memorials may be made to the Jimmie Peters Memorial Fund.

GALEN FREDERICK HUNT
SHELL KNOB, Mo. - Galen Frederick Hunt, 74, Shell Knob, Mo., formerly of Osawatomie, died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at St. John's Hospital, Springfield, Mo. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, Osawatomie. He was born March 10, 1927, in the Plum Creek Community north of Osawatomie to Azol Darwin and Freda Emily (Gibson) Hunt. He grew up and graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific aboard the USS Intrepid. He also served four years in the Naval Reserves. He married Lucille Thompson June 25, 1950, in Osawatomie. She survives. He attended Thompson's School of Watch Making in Kansas City, Mo., and earned a private pilot's license. He lived in Greeley, Colo., and Cody, Wyo., where he owned and operated a jewelry store. Returning to Osawatomie in 1965, he lived on the family farm and was a physical plant supervisor for the Kansas Rainbow Facility. He retired in 1991 and moved to Shell Knob in 1993. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, American Red Cross, Odd Fellows Lodge, VFW, USS Intrepid Association, and a member of the Plum Creek United Methodist Church. He is survived by a daughter, Debra Tronco, Cape Fair, Mo.; brother, Hollis Hunt, Osawatomie; and a grandson. He is preceded in death by a granddaughter. Visitation will be 12:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Osawatomie cemetery with military honors. Memorials may be made to the Plum Creek United Methodist Church.

HARVEY PFIZENMAIER
CLAY CENTER - Harvey Pfizenmaier, 71, Clay Center, died Monday, May 14, at the Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, at the United Methodist Church, Clay Center. He was born Oct. 1, 1929, in Clay County to William Otto and Jesse (Ransley) Pfizenmaier. He grew up and graduated from Clay Center Community High School in 1947. He served in the United States Air Force. He farmed in Goshen Township. He married Shirley McClean on Oct. 6, 1951. She survives. He was a former member of the USD #379 School Board, served on the Township Board, and as a Clay County commissioner for eight years. He is survived by four sons, Michael Pfizenmaier, Clay Center, Scott Pfizenmaier, Marshall, Mo., Jon Pfizenmaier, Manhattan, and Bill Pfizenmaier, Ottawa; three sisters, Mary Ellen Kretz, Clay Center, Maxine Friederich, Green, and Shirley Berggen, Clay Center, and seven grandchildren. He is preceded in death by one brother, Paul Pfizenmaier. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home, Clay Center. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, with military honors. Memorials to the Harvey Pfizenmaier Memorial Fund.

STEPHEN D. PRICE
Steven D. Price, 46, Ottawa, died Friday, April 27, 2001, as a result of a vehicle accident near LeLoup. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church with Rev. John Duran and Rev. Earl Zimmerman officiating. He was born June 22, 1954, in Kansas City, Mo., to Donald and Carol (Nelson) Price. He grew up in Ottawa, graduating from Ottawa High School in 1972. He married Debra Shuster at Clearwater on Dec. 29, 1979. She survives. He lived in Emporia five years, returning to Ottawa in 1986. In the 1980s he worked for Haven Steel as a welder and fitter and at the Wolf Creek Power Plant, Burlington, during construction in the 1970s and 1980s. Since 1992, he has been employed by Royal Tractor, Company, Gardner, as a welder and fitter lead man/foreman. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. Survivors also include four sons, Jeff Price, Lawrence, Jason Price, Josh Price and Scott Clark, all of the home; a daughter, Shanna Clark, of the home; his parents, of Ottawa; a sister, Joan Cook, Ottawa; maternal grandmother, Margie Nelson, Louisburg; and several aunts, uncles and nephews. His body will lie in state at Dengel & Son Mortuary, where family will meet with friends 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at Princeton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Faith Lutheran Church Building Fund.

PAT CRAWFORD
KINGFISHER, Okla. - Pat Crawford, 58, Kingfisher, Okla., died April 11, 2001, at Kingfisher Regional Hospital. Funeral services were April 14 at Lighthouse Praise and Worship Center, Kingfisher. She was born Aug. 1, 1942, to Otis and Lottie (Phillips) Burnett in Ottawa. She married Edward E. Crawford on Oct. 18, 1959, in Lansing. He survives. She lived in DeSoto after her marriage and moved to Kingfisher, Okla. in 1968. She was a Girl Scout leader and day camp director for 30 years, an employee of the Pioneer Telephone Company for seven years and a homecare provider for 17 years. She was a member of the Lighthouse Praise and Worship Center. She is survived by two sons, John and James Crawford, Kingfisher; two daughters, Linda Sewell, Piedmont, Okla., and Julie Barton, Kingfisher; a sister Ruth Moore, Ottawa, and nine grandchildren. Burial was at Kingfisher Cemetery, with Sanders Funeral Service, Kingfisher, in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions maybe made to the Praise The Lord Fund established at Bankfirst, 124 S. Main St., Kingfisher, Okla. 73570.

DOLORES LANEL FISCHER
OVERLAND PARK - Dolores Lanel Fischer, 70, Overland Park, died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Merriam. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Garnett, with Rev. Sharon Brown Chappell officiating. She was born Nov. 1, 1930, in Centerville to Emery N. and Josephine F. (Henderson) Osborne. She graduated from Kincaid High School in 1948. She married Rufus F. "Fred" Fischer on Feb. 24, 1960. He survives. She was employed in Kansas City for Montgomery Wards, Clipper, the U.S. Government as a records clerk at Bendix, which later became Allied Signal, retiring in 1992. She is also survived by a son, Howard Fischer, Kansas City, Mo. Family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McGilley-Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park. Burial will be in Kincaid Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hope House, 6700 Antioch, Merriam, KS 66204, or in care of the funeral home.

ELOISE 'SUNNY' LARSON
TOPEKA - Eloise "Sunny" Larson, 90, Topeka, formerly Ottawa, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Aldersgate Village Care Center, Topeka. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Harnden officiating. She was born Sept. 20, 1910, at Lorimor, Iowa, to Russell and Jessie (McLeary) Bowman. She graduated from the University of Kansas. She married Howard L. "Bob" Larson on June 3, 1932, at Liberty, Mo. He died Aug. 25, 1971. She was a homemaker and worked for Crite's Body Shop in Ottawa for several years. She was a long-time Ottawa resident who moved to Topeka five years ago. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the OttawaGirls Club board of directors, American Cancer Society board, American Red Cross, the Ottawa, MPM Club, Ottawa Area Retired Teachers Association and the Four Seasons Garden Club. Her survivors include her daughter, Anita Lee Gerber, Topeka, one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by one sister, Theon Bowman. Her body will lie in state after 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery. Memorials to either the Heartland Hospice or the First United Methodist Church.

MADELINE KERSLEY
ATCHISON - Madeline A. Kersley, 88, died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at the Medical Lodge of Atchison. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Holy Angels Catholic Church, Garnett, with Rev. George Matz officiating. She was born June 2, 1912, in Kincaid to Michael and Christina Madeline (Pacha) Herynk. She was a graduate of Pittsburg State University. She married Wayne Woodrow "Woody" Kersley at Garnett on March 26, 1942. He died Aug. 25, 1987. She taught elementary education for 14 years in one-room schools and 13 years in other schools. She retired while teaching at Kincaid. She lived in Kincaid until 1971, moving to Garnett, living her last 2 years in Garnett at the Arkhaven Assisted Living Center. She is survived by three sons, Michael Kersley, Atchison, Herbert Kersley, Kincaid, and Daniel Kersley, Garnett; two brothers, Rollin Herynk, Kincaid, and Tom Herynk, Kincaid; a sister Elnora Smethers, Iola; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her body will lie in state 7-8 p.m. Friday at the Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Garnett. Burial will be at Holy Angels Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Madeline Kersley Memorial Fund.

CLEO W. BETTS
RICHMOND - Cleo W. Betts, 85, Richmond, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Richmond Care Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the First Methodist Church, Garnett, with Rev. Sharon Brown Chappell officiating. He was born March 20, 1916, in Harveyville to William and Birdie (McPherson) Betts. He graduated from Harveyville High School and Baker University, Baldwin. He married Jean Hughes on May 20, 1943, in Herington. She survives. He was a bookkeeper for Whitley Chevrolet and later Staten Chevrolet, Baldwin. He moved to Garnett in 1959 where he was employed as bookkeeper and parts manager for Whitley Chevrolet, Powers Motors, L&M Motors, and retired from Beckman Motors in 1985, all the same dealership but with different ownership. Survivors include a son, William E. Betts, Garnett; daughter Barbara Voeltz, Lincoln, Neb.; sister, Lois Larsen, Garnett; four grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, and two sisters. His body will lie in state after 10 a.m. Thursday at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Garnett, with visitation 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin. Memorials to the First United Methodist Church of Garnett.

RAYMOND LEE BISHOP
GARNETT - Raymond Lee Bishop, 67, Garnett, died Saturday, April 28, 2001. at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Garnett, with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. He was born Sept. 15, 1933, in Linn county to Eddie and Leora (Hayes) Bishop. He married Marceline L. Huss on Aug. 7, 1983. She survives. He was a power plant operator. Survivors also include two sons, Curtis Bishop, and David Bishop, Garnett; a stepson, James Hodgson, Topeka; two daughters, Terry Lickteig, Garnett, and Carol Scoggins, Des Moines, Iowa; a stepdaughter, Patricia Hiner, Garnett; several grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren, six stepgreat-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His body is lying in state afterat the funeral home. Burial will be in the Garnett Cemetery. Memorials may be made to help defray funeral expenses in care of the funeral home.
