Elmer Hull
JOPLIN, Mo. - Elmer F. Hull, 95, of Joplin, died July 21, 1999, after a long illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Minister Pat Peck will officiate.
Family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary in Joplin.
Hull was born Sept. 19, 1903, in Huntsville, Ark., and had been a Joplin area resident since 1967. He was a finish carpenter before retiring in 1965.
Hull married Fanie Meird in 1925 in Winfield. She preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sons, Floyd Hull, Monett, Mo., and Darrel Hull, Joplin, Mo.; two brothers, Earl Hull, Wichita, and Andrew Hull, Colorado; 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Annabelle Mundis
INOLA, Okla. - Annabelle Mundis, 84, of Inola, formerly of Winfield, died July 22, 1999, at her home after an extended illness.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel in Broken Arrow, Okla.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
Mundis was born Nov. 6, 1914, in Winfield, to Charles Albert and Jessica Ann Vaughn. She married L.E. "Joe" Mundis in 1936.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Mundis, Inola; two sons, Charles J. Mundis, Houston, and James W. Mundis, Broken Arrow; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A son, John A. Mundis, preceded her in death.
Gleason Parsons
BURDEN - Services for Robert Gleason Parsons, 83, who died July 20, 1999, were held at 10 a.m. July 23 in Wheeler Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Sheila Ratzlaff officiated. Burial was in Burden Cemetery.
Barbara Shively was the organist, and Susan Tatum and Pat Lundy were the vocalists. Music selections were "How Great Thou Art" and "Going Down the Valley."
Casket bearers were J.D. Redford, Kenneth Kingsbury, Clark Kingsbury, Mike Smith, Phillip Haney and Vernon Dennett.
A memorial has been established with Rural Fire District No. 3.
Erwin Harris
Erwin Lee Harris, 83, of 11 Roberts Court, Winfield, died July 22, 1999, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Udall Congregational Church. The Revs. Fred Houston and Mike Rethmeier will officiate. Burial will be in Udall City Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home.
Memorials have been established with the Udall Congregational Church and Friendship Meals.
Harris was born March 22, 1916, near Udall, to Ed and Edith (Satterthwaite) Harris. He graduated from Udall High School and farmed southeast of Udall until his retirement.
On June 21, 1939, he married Opal Lanier in Winfield. She died Aug. 5, 1986.
On Feb. 16, 1991, he married Ellen Barley of Winfield.
A member of the Udall Congregational Church, he volunteered with Friendship Meals and William Newton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen Harris, Winfield; a son, Russell Harris, Kaneohe, Hawaii; three daughters, Barbara Doyle and Julie Burley, both of Udall, and Beverly Riener, Mulvane; two stepsons, Bruce Barley, Park City, and Alan Barley, Tucson; a brother, Ernest Harris, Udall; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
June Foust
ARKANSAS CITY - A. June Foust, 83, of Arkansas City, died July 24, 1999, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. The Rev. Jesse A. Kindred will officiate. Burial will be in Dexter Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Arkansas City Takedown Club. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Foust was born June 13, 1916, in Arkansas City, to Benjamin R. and Viola (Richardson) Day. She graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1934 and from St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in Winfield in 1938.
On Jan. 6, 1939, she married Dale G. Foust in South Haven. They made their first home in Riverdale but spent most of their lives in Arkansas City, Winfield and Cedar Vale.
Foust was a retired registered nurse. Over the years, she had worked at the Hays Hospital in Cedar Vale and Arkansas City Memorial Hospital and for Dr. Newton Smith and Dr. Bruce Smith.
Foust was a member of Central Christian Church, St. Mary's Hospital Nursing School Alumnae and the American Red Cross.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Foust, Ithaca, Mich., and Joe Foust, Arkansas City; a daughter, Judy McCall, Cedar Vale; a brother, W.O. "Doc" Day, Independence; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Her husband preceded her in death.
Donald Johnson
Donald L. Johnson, 60, of 1212 Grand, Winfield, died July 23, 1999, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 tonight.
Memorials have been established with Trinity Lutheran Church and the Winfield Area Emergency Medical Service. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Johnson was born Aug. 11, 1938, at Geneseo, to Donald L. and Imogene (Gardner) Johnson. He was a 1956 graduate of Winfield High School. He also graduated from Southwestern College and later attended Wichita State University.
On April 12, 1958, he married Carolyn Lock in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield.
Johnson was a certified public accountant for Conoco in Ponca City and later for Elmer Fox & Co. in Wichita. For several years before his death, he had been a self-employed CPA, working for Prairieland Processors in Arkansas City.
He was a member of the Winfield Country Club and Winfield Elks Lodge 732.
Survivors includes his wife, Carolyn Johnson, Winfield; two sons, Darryl Johnson, Wichita, and Darren Johnson, Rose Hill; his mother and stepfather, Imogene and Clarence Hamlin, Winfield; two brothers, Steve Hamlin, Douglass, and Jim Hamlin, Winfield; a sister, Susan West, Winfield; and one granddaughter.
Lucille Guenther
SUN CITY, Ariz. - Lucille A. Morris Guenther, 86, died July 22, 1999, in Sun City.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Highland Cemetery
in Winfield. The Rev. Fred Houston will officiate. Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be given to any hospice.
Guenther was born Aug. 29, 1912, at Fargo, Okla., to Roy and Anna (Pulley) Adams. She graduated from Woodward High School and attended Southwestern College where she met and married Paul G. Morris on Sept. 14, 1931. He died May 12, 1985.
She married Carl N. Guenther June 1, 1986.
Survivors include her husband, Carl Guenther, Sun City; a son, Michael Morris, Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter, Millicent Nye, Hutchinson; four sisters, Dorothy Dean, Dallas, Lela Cullen, Oklahoma City, Ruby Wick, Bellevue, Wash., and Norma Burgin, Cuthbert, Ga.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Robert Brennaman
NEWKIRK - Robert Arlie Bonebreak Leasure Pierce Brennaman, 73, of Newkirk, died July 22, 1999, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Ponca City.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 9 a.m. July 26 in St. Francis Catholic Church. The Rev. Richard Beckman officiated. Miller-Stahl Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
As a memorial, a seminary fund has been established. Contributions may be made through Eastman National Bank, P.O. Box 468, Newkirk, OK 74647-0468.
Brennaman was born June 3, 1926, in Linn County, Iowa, to Arlie Devere Bonebreak Brennaman and Ruth Elizabeth Leasure Pierce Brennaman. He attended grade school in Toddville, Iowa, and graduated from Toddville High School. He then attended California State Polytechnic at San Luis Obispo, Calif., and graduated from The Culinary Institute of America in New Haven, Conn. He attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City and attained graduate degrees from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
During World War II he served with the Army in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.
Brennaman was employed for several years as chef at several golf and country clubs in Iowa. He became self-employed in 1959, opening and operating a cafe-bakery, an ice cream drive-in and a catering business. He later owned and operated two truck stops. After completion of post-graduate degrees, he was employed as an instructor at Southeast High School in Lincoln, Neb. He was later employed at Platte College in Columbus, Neb., as a professor of business.
On July 24, 1961, he and Colleen Marie Bollich married in Crofton, Neb. In 1974 they moved to Arkansas City where he continued his teaching career in business. He retired in May 1991 and moved to New Mexico in 1996. The Brennamans moved to Newkirk in October 1997.
He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Newkirk and the Knights of Columbus in Arkansas City.
Survivors include his wife, Colleen Brennaman, Newkirk; and three sisters, Marie Elizabeth Van Note, Hiawatha, Iowa, Dorothy Arlene Van Fossen, Center Point, Iowa, and Evelyn Ruth Curtiss, Emerson, Neb.
Thomas Kessinger
GRENOLA - Thomas James Kessinger, infant son of Angela and Caleb Kessinger of Grenola, was stillborn July 26, 1999, at William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Greenlawn Cemetery
at Grenola. Pastor Wallace Wartick will officiate.
A memorial has been established with the Grenola Christian Church. Contributions can be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
In addition to his parents, Thomas is survived by his grandparents, Thomas and Paulette Kessinger of Grenola and James and Kathy Parrish of Joplin, Mo.
Elizabeth Kinder
MOLINE - Elizabeth Maude Kinder, 95, longtime resident of Moline, died July 26, 1999, at Elk Manor Nursing Home in Moline.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard. The Rev. John Foust will officiate. Burial will be in Moline Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with Elk Manor Nursing Home and the Moline Medical Clinic.
Kinder was born Feb. 20, 1904, at Camron, Mo., to Henry P. and Nellie Mae (Haywood) Beechner. She attended school in the Sedan area.
On Sept. 10, 1923, she married George Lee Kinder at Moline. He died Nov. 13, 1974.
A homemaker, Kinder cared for her family and later for her parents until their deaths.
Survivors include two sons, James Kinder, Emporia, and Bob Kinder, Topeka; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A son, William Beechner Kinder, preceded her in death.
