SATANTA -- Marie J. Grimsley, 85, Satanta, died Monday, March 25, 2002, at Satanta Long Term Care Unit in Satanta.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette.
VIOLET E. DETTMER
Violet E. Dettmer, 89, Liberal, died Monday, March 25, 2002, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
She was born March 27, 1912, to George W. and Rosa E. (Hicks) Adams in Seward County.
She married Ernest W. Dettmer June 9, 1929, in Garden City. He died Sept. 9, 1979.
She worked at the Liberal air base during World War II and later was a cashier at Ford Motor Company in Liberal for 20 years.
She was a member of the First Christian Church and a charter member of the Friendly Neighbors Club, AARP and the Prestige Club, all in Liberal.
Her hobbies included playing cards.
Survivors include one son, Ernest E. "Jr." Dettmer, Broomfield, Colo.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one daughter and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Miller Chapel in Liberal with the Rev. John Andrews presiding.
Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery
in Liberal.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until service time Wednesday.
The family suggests memorials to the First Christian Church in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln Ave., Liberal, KS 67901.
C. RICHARD LAKE
TOPEKA -- C. Richard Lake, 87, died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at a care facility in Topeka.
He was born Sept. 30, 1914, to Clarence T. and Esther (Root) Lake in Topeka.
He married Margaret McKenna July 23, 1938, in Leavenworth. She died in May 1978.
He married Mable E. Spillner Jan. 12, 1979, in Topeka. She died Feb. 19, 1996.
He married Mildred Myers Nov. 21, 1996, in Topeka. She survives.
He attended Topeka schools, the University of Kansas and The Institute of Business Economics at the University of Southern California.
He worked for the Santa Fe Railway Company for 43 years and retired as secretary and treasurer June 30, 1979.
He was a former member of the Kansas Association of Commerce and Industry and the Topeka Chamber of Commerce.
He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Topeka Public Library for many years, serving as chairman, vice chairman and treasurer. He also served as president of the Friends of the Topeka Public Library and was president of the Northeast Kansas Library System.
He was also chairman of the Kansas Library Association Legislative Committee. He was chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Treasury Division, Association of American Railroads and was a member of Topeka Genealogical Society and American Legion Post No. 400.
He served in the 77th Infantry Division during World War II.
Other survivors include two sons, J. Richard Lake, Holton, and Lt. Col. Daniel E. Lake, Bellevue, Neb.; one step-son, Richard K.
Myers, Prescott, Ariz.; one daughter, Mary Lee Swanson, Liberal; three step-daughters, Jean Weathers, Fort Jones, Calif., Joyce Jones, Omaha, Neb., and Jan Kind, Murray, Ky.; one brother, Kenneth E. Lake, Jerusalem, Ark.; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Cathedral in Topeka.
Inurnment will be at Resurrection Chapel at Grace Cathedral.

HAZEL D. CLARK
PAMPA, Texas -- Hazel Delle Beckworth Clark, 98, died Saturday, March 23, 2002, in Pampa.
She was born Feb. 7, 1904, in Mt. Sylvan, Texas.
She married John F. Clark July 11, 1925, in Stephenville, Texas. He died Oct. 28, 1988.
She was raised in Stephenville, and had been a resident of Pampa since 1930.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church since 1931.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmie Clark and Jack Clark, both of Pampa; one daughter, Louise Tribble, Liberal; one brother, Afton Beckworth, Amarillo, Texas; one sister, Louise Massey, Odessa, Texas; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, John Beckworth, Paul Beckworth and Earl Beckworth.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa with Dr. Randy White presiding.
Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery
in Pampa.

MARIE J. GRIMSLEY
SATANTA Marie Julia Grimsley, 85, Satanta, died Monday, March 25, 2002 at Satanta Long Term Care Unit in Satanta.
She was born Dec. 12, 1916, to Oscar and Lola Bernice (Seward) Brooks in Seward County.
She married James Francis Grimsley March 17, 1936, in Beaver, Okla. He died March 1, 1964.
She had lived in Garden City about 20 years before moving to Satanta in 1982.
She was a nurse's aide at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City for 20 years, and she worked with the Satanta Hospital Auxiliary.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Satanta Hospital Auxiliary and the Happy Agers, all of Satanta.
Her hobbies included ceramics, sewing, crossword puzzles, gardening, yard work, and visiting with her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Larry James Grimsley and wife, Johne, Hays, and Michael Jay Grimsley and wife, Linda, Garden City; five daughters, Nancy Colleen Kiehl and husband, Gary, Shelton, Wash., Mary Ann Oliver and husband, Ron, Satanta, Karen Jane Moore and husband, Van, Bonny Lake, Wash., Janice Marie Turrentine and husband, Craig, Deerfield, and Sherri Bernice Fortin and husband, David, Lakin; one daughter-in-law, Denyce Grimsley, Virginia Beach, Va.; three brothers, Gene Brooks, Eufala, Okla., Jim Brooks, Hill City, and Ernie Brooks, Kingman, Ariz.; one sister, Susie Richardson, Liberal; 20 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Stanley Sherrill Grimsley; and one grandson, Christopher Aaron Turrentine.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Satanta with the Rev. Jeff Miller presiding.
A private burial was held earlier at Valley View Cemetery
in Garden City.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette.

MAE M. CADENHEAD
ULYSSES -- Mae Myrtle Cadenhead, 93, formerly of Ulysses, died Monday, March 25, 2002, at her daughter's home in Lenoir, N.C.
She was born Nov. 25, 1908, to John Ernest and Ella Lucreitan (Kendall) Fogleman in Ulysses.
She married Jimmie Newton Cadenhead Sept. 1, 1924, in Santa Fe, N.M. He died June 20, 1993.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Ulysses and Calvary Baptist Church in Simpsonville, S.C.
Survivors include one son, Robert R. Cadenhead and wife, Lyla, Simpsonville; one daughter, Carol Burns and husband, Jim, Lenoir; one brother, Ray Fogleman and wife, Erlene, Ulysses; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Jimmie Newton Cadenhead Jr. and John William Cadenhead; and one daughter, JoAnna Crowell.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Grace Baptist Church in Ulysses with the Rev. Robert R. Cadenhead presiding.
Burial will be at Ulysses Cemetery
in Ulysses.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Grant County Funeral Home in Ulysses.

WILLIAM L. MCMAHON
MEADE -- William L. "Bill" McMahon, 98, died Monday, March 25, 2002, at Lone Tree
Compassionate Care Center in Meade.
He was born Jan. 18, 1904, to John Thomas and Susie Blanche (Pace) McMahon in Albermarle, Va.
He married Dorothy Opal Atkins Sept. 17, 1931, in Colorado Springs, Colo. She died Dec. 3, 1998.
He and his family moved to Englewood, Colo., when he was a young boy. He attended school in Englewood.
He was an aircraft pioneer, working for several aircraft manufactureres as a welder.
He was a member of the Methodist Church in Englewood, the OX5 Aviation Pioneers, Silver Wings Fraternity and the Mooney Aircraft Pilots Association.
Survivors include two duaghters, Dorothy M. Harris and husband, Dr. Norvan, Liberal, and Marion L. Becker and husband, Russel, Wichita; six grandchildren, Bill Harris, Cynthia Harris Perry, Janet Harris, Van Harris, Dan Becker and Cathy Becker Lewis; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis McMahon and Jack McMahon; and one sister, Edith Campbell.
Cremation has taken place and services will be held at a later date in Colorado Springs.
