Dorothy C. Mueller 1923-2004
Dorothy C. Mueller, 80, died March 13 at Central Kansas Medical Center. She was born Sept. 18, 1923, at St. Leo, the daughter of A. J. and Elizabeth Schommer Schwager. She married Wendell Mueller, July 24, 1959, at Great Bend. He died Nov. 20, 1987. A resident of Great Bend most of her life, she worked for Greens, Gunns and Howards clothing stores.
Mrs. Mueller was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
Survivors include one sister, Vernelia Williams, of Great Bend; one sister-in-law, Luella Schwager, of Great Bend; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Sylvester Schwager, George Schwager and Gerald Schwager.
Vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the church with Rev. Ted Stoecklein officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Holy Family School Endowment Fund.

A. L. (Linc) Branson 1920-2004
LYONS — A. L. (Linc) Branson, 83, died March 12, at Hutchinson. He was born Sept. 3, 1920, at Burden, the son of De and Alice Young Branson. He married Arleen Wesseler of Bushton on July 31, 1947 at Lyons. A long time Lyons resident, he was owner and operator of Branson Truck Line, Inc. in Lyons for 25 years and worked for City Service Gas and Graves/ANR Freight.
Branson was a member of Lyons United Methodist Church, serving on several committees; a 50 year member of Queen Esther Chapter 32 Order of the Eastern Star; of Royal Lodge 192; of Isis Temple; of Scottish Rite; York Rite; International Association Legions of Honor, all of Salina; of York Rite of Ellsworth; Veterans of Foreign Wars; served on the Kansas Board of American Trucking Association; was a member of Kansas Motor Carriers Association; served on the board of directors of Chase State Bank; of Lyons Chamber of Commerce; and was mayor of Lyons, 1973-1974. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; one son, Donald and Carol Branson, of Prairie Village; three daughters, LaVonda Branson, of Kansas City, Kan., Gaila and Daryle Nielsen, of Ellinwood, and Nancy and J. Morgan Lester, of Melbourne, Fla.; one brother, Robert “Bob” and Benji Branson, of Abita Springs, La.; one sister, Mary Alice Garrison, of Lincoln; eight grandchildren, Deborah and Neal Nerich, of Decator, Ill., Steven Branson, of Prairie Village, Shawn and Cheryl Nielsen, of Ellinwood, Shelly and Matt Ward, of Kansas City, Mo., Andrew Coryer, of Lake Isabella, Calif., Melissa Coryer, of Dunedin, New Zealand, August Lester, of Melborne, Fla., and Noelle and Piper Lester, of Boise, Idaho; three great grandchildren, Shane Odell, of Decator, Ill., Neysa Nerich, of Decator, Ill., and Micah Ward, of Kansas City, Mo.; and one great-great grandchild, Chance Odell, of Decator, Ill. He was preceded in death by two sons, Terry Dee Branson and Billy Joe Branson, and by one daughter, Pamela Sue Branson.
Funeral will be at 2. p.m. Wednesday at the church with Rev. Cindy Watson officiating. The body was donated to KU Medical Center for education and research. Memorials are suggested to the Lyons United Methodist Church building fund or to the World War II Veterans Memorial in care of Jack Janssen.

Emeline Brunsell 1919-2004
LINDSBORG — Emeline Brunsell, 84, died March 9. She was born May 20, 1919, in rural Lindsborg, the daughter of P. Emil and Ellen Bengston Rosander. She married James William Brunsell Sept. 20, 1937, at Hutchinson. He died March 3, 1988. A lifetime resident of Lindsborg, she was a homemaker and a farmer’s wife.
Survivors include one son, Keith Brunsell of Lindsborg; one daughter, Jane Brunsell of Lindsborg; one sister, Frances Bruns of Great Bend; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Sjostrom; and two sisters, Helen Rosander Bailey and Annette Sjostrom Danielson.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lindsborg. Burial will be at Smoky Hill cemetery in Lindsborg. Memorials are suggested to the church or Lindsborg Playground Project, in care of Hays-Christians Funeral Home of Lindsborg.

Martha Elizabeth Earegood 1926-2004
LARNED — Martha Elizabeth Earegood, 78, died March 9 at Larned Healthcare Center in Larned. She was born Jan. 8, 1926, at Clinton, Mo., the daughter of William McKinley and Beatrice Edde Jenkins. A resident of Larned since 1951, she was a retired licensed mental health technician at Larned State Hospital.
She was a member of the Christian faith.
Survivors include four sons, Dean of Larned, Donald of Great Bend, David of Camdenton, Mo., and Gerald of Elk Grove, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Jo Sullivan; and one grandson, Christopher Earegood.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned with the Rev. Charles Grant officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today, Saturday and Sunday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Larned Healthcare Center or American Heart Association, both in care of the funeral home.

Nina V. Helsel 1918-2004
PRATT — Nina V. Helsel, 85, died March 10 at Pratt Regional Medical Center. She was born July 8, 1918, at Douglas, the daughter of Orley Lee and Daisy Daniels Brown. She married Don E. Helsel April 6, 1942, at Cherokee, Okla. He died in August 1987. She was a retired employee of Dillons.
Mrs. Helsel was a member of Free Methodist Church of Pratt.
Survivors include two stepsons, Dale Helsel of Great Bend and Darrel Helsel of Pratt; two stepdaughters, Fontella Cook of Pratt and Twiella Daugherty of Fortuna, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Visser.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Larrison Mortuary in Pratt with the Rev. Harold Wilcox officiating. Burial will be at Iuka Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the church or Pratt Regional Medical Center Gifts and Requests, both in care of the mortuary.

Lois Frances Kohler 1919-2004
SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Lois Frances Kohler, 84, died March 7 at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, Calif. She was born April 30, 1919, at Ellinwood, the daughter of Fred and Frances Demel Kohler. She was a 1936 graduate of Ellinwood High School and later graduated from Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia. A longtime resident of San Diego, coming from Inman, Hutchinson and Ellinwood, she was a teacher at Inman High School for two years, secretary to the director of ground school operations from Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Company in Hutchinson Naval Air Station and an employee of city of San Diego in various departments for 46 years. The last eight years she was executive secretary to the director of Park and Recreation Department, until her retirement in 1993.
Survivors include one sister, Norma Louise Kohler of San Diego.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kimple Funeral Chapel in Ellinwood with the Rev. Larry Young officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Commanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Ellinwood Public Education and Library Foundation, in care of the funeral home.

Lawrence Dean Cooley
CUNNINGHAM — Lawrence Dean Cooley, 82, died March 10. A resident of Cunningham, he was a retired oil field production worker.
Survivors include his wife, Etta Mae Cooley of the home; three daughters, Rogene Jarmer of Cunningham, Marleen Fairchild of Kingman and LaDean Bailey of Great Bend; two sisters, Mary Fry of Hutchinson and Eugenia Wise of Derby; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church in Cunningham.

Bernard J. Krier 1922-2004
CLAFLIN — Bernard J. Krier, 81, died March 10 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. He was born July 13, 1922, in rural Barton County, the son of William and Clara Hoffman Krier. He married Marilyn Straub Sept. 28, 1948, at St. Peter and Paul Church, north of Ellinwood. She died Dec. 16, 1989. A lifetime resident of Claflin, he was a retired farmer and stockman.
Krier was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 1500 and lifetime member of Ralph B. Praeger Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8668, all of Claflin. He was also a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Great Bend and Kansas Farm Management Association. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II in the 11th Armored Division and served in the Battle of the Bulge.
Survivors include Roger Krier of Great Bend, Bryan Krier of Wichita, Kirby Krier and Perry Krier, both of Claflin; two sisters, Margaret Zecha of Great Bend and Catherine Seyfert of Hunter; and 15 grandchildren.
Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. today, followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, both at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Funeral will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Claflin, with the Revs. John J. Maes and James Roth officiating. Burial will be at Claflin Cemetery, with military graveside rites. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Claflin Ambulance Service, in care of the funeral home.

Virginia Gene McBee 1914-2004
LARNED — Virginia Gene McBee, 89, died March 9 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. She was born July 10, 1914, at Parsons, the daughter of Fred and Irma “Alice” Beever. She married Cecil F. McBee Dec. 7, 1935, at Dodge City. He died July 14, 1994. A resident of St. John since February 2002, coming from Englewood, Colo., and Larned, she was a retired registered nurse, working at Larned State Hospital and Gleason Hospital, both of Larned, and St. Anthony Hospital of Dodge City.
Mrs. McBee was a member of First Baptist Church of Englewood.
Survivors include one son, Erin Ross McBee of Larned; two daughters, Allison Gross of St. John and Cecilia Green of Chicago, Ill.; one sister, Anna Rose Younger of Scottsville, Ky.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one sister, Vivian McCoy.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned, with the Rev. Loyd Gross officiating. Burial will be at Fowler cemetery in Fowler. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to donor’s choice, in care of the funeral home.
