Brock, Custer

PINEVILLE — Custer Brock, 70, passed away on Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, at the Pineville Community Hospital.

He was born in Bell County on May 18, 1937 the son of the late Dewey and Martha Jane Saylor Brock.

He was a believer in the Holiness Faith and had been a construction lineman for Gambrel Construction and Hoskins Construction Companies.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a very special friend, Wanda Faye Lefevers; step-mother, Chloe Taylor Brock; brother, Walter Brock; sisters, Gladys Brock and Katherine Neal.

Survivors include his brothers and sisters, Elijah and Belle Brock of Phillips Fork Ky., Stella and S.B. Gambrel of Flat Lick, Cordia Saylor of Indianapolis Ind., Reva Mills of Flat Lick, Pat and Lester Sumpter of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Bertha Napier of Pineville; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Mahurin, the Rev. Jim Bargo, the Rev. Herman Denny and the Rev. Jim Stanley officiating.

Burial will be at Pinelawn Memorial Gardens at East Pineville. Pallbearers will be his nephews.

Honorary pallbearers are S.B. Gambrel, Junior Stewart, Dr. Jerry Woolum, Dr. Shawn Fugate, Dr. Russell DeVore and the staff at Baker Cancer Treatment Center.

Saylor, Tisha Brock

Tisha Brock Saylor 78, of Harlan, Ky., passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at the Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital. She was born August 7, 1929 in Leslie Co. Ky. Mrs. Saylor was a homemaker most of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; James & Birdie Brock. First husband; Charlie Brock. Two sons; Charles Brock & Lonnie Brock. Three brothers; Henry Brock, Elmer Brock & Letcher Brock. Two sisters; Hallie Fee & Hannah Simpson.

Survivors include her husband; Wiley Saylor Jr. of Harlan, Ky. Two daughters; Charlene Asher & husband Edward of Bledsoe, Ky. Betty Jean Wilson & husband Billy of Tazewell, TN. Five grandchildren & four great grandchildren. One sister; Sarah Owens of Rockcastle Co. Ky. And several other relatives and friends also survive.

Graveside services will be conducted Friday, April 25, 2008 at 1:00 PM at the Brown cemetery of Bledsoe, Ky. With the Rev. Reed Brock officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 24, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home.

Mount Pleasant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Seay, Joseph B. (Joe Pete)

Mr. Joseph B. "Joe Pete" Seay, 56, of London, formerly of Barbourville, passed away Friday, October 6, 2006 as the result of injuries he sustained in a coal mine accident.

He was a son of the late Allen "Keggy" and Helen Hopper Seay born on May 25, 1950 in Barbourville.

Mr. Seay was a coal miner with the D & R Coal Company.

He was a member of the Advent Christian Church and enjoyed working on lawnmowers and other machinery and enjoyed watching wrestling.

On October 5, 1990, he united in marriage with LaGail Drury in Barbourville.

Survivors include his wife, LaGail Seay of London; his children, Amy Cobb and husband, Doug, of Mackey Bend, Kristie Peace of Barbourville and Destiny Rochelle Seay of London; two grandchildren, Shelby and Karly Cobb of Mackey Bend; among other loved ones and friends who mourn his passing.

His funeral service was conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home October 10 at 1 P.M. with Rev. Ed Wayne Gibson and Rev. Leonard Lester officiating.

Mr. Seay was laid to rest in the Patterson cemetery at Heidrick.

Casket bearers were co-workers and friends.

Honorary bearers were Charles Drury, David Grubb and Troy Girdner.

Shackelford, Joyce Ann

Middlesboro -Joyce Ann Shackelford, 58, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007 at Pineville Community Hospital.

She was born Feb. 20, 1948, in Bell County, and was the daughter of the late Clayton and Gladys Blackwell Shackelford. She was a member of the Mt. Mary Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Carl Shackelford and Clayton Shackelford Jr.; and her beloved twin sister, Judy Faye Shackelford.

She is survived by the following members other family: three daughters, Lisa (Wade) Miracle, Middlesboro, Leslie (Jeff) Simpson, Middlesboro, Becky (Mike) Moyers, Tazewell, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Devin Hounshel, Logan Hounshel, and Lauren Thompson; two brothers, James Shackelford, Middlesboro, and Gary Shackelford, Middlesboro; one sister, Debbie Shackelford, Middlesboro; special cousins, Betty Moses, Brenda Mintzer, and Phyllis Collins; special friends, Kay Short and Sandra Elliott; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Creech Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Gibson and David Mintzer presiding. Music will be provided by the Mt. Mary Baptist Church Choir.

Interment will follow in the Green Hills Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Jeff Simpson, James Brooks, Mike Moyers, Wade Miracle, Ronnie Simpson, David Mintzer and Scott Huddleston. Honorary pallbearers will be James Shackelford, Dr. S. K. Morgan, Dr. Wlliam Powers, Bill Short, George Byrd, Harry England, Carl Swain, A.Z. Moses, Susan Cardwell, and the Staff of the Pineville Community Hospital.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Creech Funeral Home, Middlesboro, which is in charge of all arrangements.

Simpson, Coley

FOURMILE - Coley Simpson, 20, passed away Friday, Aug. 4, 2006, at Claiborne County Hospital, Tazewell, Tenn.

Born Aug. 10, 1985, at Pineville, he was the son of George Simpson and Tammy Harkins Simpson. A 2004 graduate of Bell County High School, he was a student at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, and had worked for Giles Industries.

Preceding him death, were his grandparents, Charles and Enda Lee Miller Simpson, and Harold and Melaline Harkins; uncles, Charles Simpson Sr., Larry Paul Simpson; great-nephew, Phillip Brown; uncle-in-law, Gary Hinkle.

Left to mourn his passing are the following: father, George Simpson, Fourmile; mother, Tammy Harkins Simpson, Fourmile; brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Amanda Simpson, Brownies Creek, Jonathan and Jennifer Simpson, Fourmile; adopted brother, Alvie Brown, Dewitt, Ky.; sister, Lindsey (sister) Baby Kay, Fourmile; uncles, Robert (Christine) Simpson, Fourmile, Michael Simpson, Fourmile; aunts, Brenda Simpson, Fourmile, Kay Patrick, Fourmile, Terri Thompson, Fourmile, and Thelma Sue Bays, Fourmile; best friend, Tanya Turner, Straight Creek; a host of cousins; uncles and aunts, Eddie (Mattie) Harkins, Judy (Huey) Gray, Larry Harkins, Jim Bo Harkin, Darlene (Harold) Gibbons; nieces and nephews, Steven, Martha, Dana, Gracie, Enda Lee LaJohna, and Baby John.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 9, at 3 p.m. at Creech-Durham Funeral Home with the Rev. Arthur Jackson presiding.

Burial will be in the Simpson Family cemetery at Fourmile. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6-10 p.m. Tuesday at Creech-Durham Funeral Home, Pineville, which is in charge of arrangements.

In Loving Memory: Effie Lefevers Brock, 83 of Bledsoe, Kentucky, died Monday, July 3, 2000 at Harlan App. Reg. Hospital.

She was the retired owner of Brock Grocery and daughter of the late Johny and Maudie Lefevers.

Also preceding her in death are three children: Herman, Johny and Dwight Brock.

Survived by her husband Archie Brock, Jr and seven children: Hester Sparks, Bledsoe, KY; Ann Wood, Georgia; Kermit Brock, Tyner, KY; Margaret Pennington, Bledsoe, KY; Pat Goddard, Wise, VA; Janie Middleton, Bledsoe, KYand Donna Smith, Elizabeth, KY.

Seventeen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Brock, Gillie

SMITHVILLE, Tenn. — Gillie Brock, 72, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007.

He was born in Stoney Fork, on Sept. 9, 1935, the son of the late Milburn and Bertha Sizemore Brock.

He retired from Sunbeam Corporation where he had been a machinist.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandchild, Ryne Brock; brothers and sisters, Burley Brock, Esther Rice, Reva Sizemore, Raymond Howard, Reed Howard, Ralph Howard and Ella Belcher.

Survivors include his wife, Wilalene Brock; three sons, Donnie Brock, Edwin Brock and Gillie Brock Jr.; grandchildren, Tonya Brock Duckett, Aaron Brock, Andrea Brock and Skyler Brock; sisters, Loretta and Claude Bailey; Jeannie and James Wallace; brother Bentley Brock; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home.

Entombment will be in the Mausoleum at Green Hills Memorial Gardens in Middlesboro. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. Saturday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, Pineville.

Brock, Janet Elaine Tolliver

Janet Elaine Tolliver Brock, age 34, of Speedwell, was born October 3, 1970 and passed away August 29, 2005 at her home.

Janet was attending Pump Springs Baptist Church. She taught computers at Powell Valley Elementary School, starting in her second year.

She worked at Mike Campbell Insurance Agency for 10 years and for Rudy Clark Insurance Agency for a number of years.

She was pursuing her Masters Degree at Lincoln Memorial University.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Matthew Newt and Hassie (Weaver) Tolliver; Clay and Eva (Bean) Leach.

She is survived by her husband: Jamie Scott Brock; sons: Jonah Clay Brock and Jarrett Camden Brock; parents: J.D. and Fayetta Tolliver; brother and sister-in-law: Jeffrey D. and Melanie Tolliver; sister and brother-in-law: Judy (Tolliver) and Michael Miller; nephew: D.J. Tolliver; nieces: Miranda Miller, Tamara Miller, Brianna Tolliver, all of Speedwell, Morgan Hendrickson and Madison Lefevers both of Pineville, Ky; father-in-law: Millard Brock; mother-in-law: Helen Brock; sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Julie and Scott Lefevers all of Pineville, Ky; special friends: Tammy Russell and Krissy Carroll; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Friday, September 9 at 2 p.m. at Coffey Funeral Home in Harrogate. Rev. Mitchell Keck and Rev. Eddie Hoskins officiating. Songs by Kris Wilburn, Alan Powers, Scott Powers, Phillip Powers, The Braden's Chapel Youth Choir. Burial in the Johnson cemetery

Brock, Jonathon

The Pineville Sun, August 21, 2003 JONATHON BROCK Jonathon Brock, 69, of St. Creek, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at the Pineville Community Hospital.

He was born in Cold Iron on January 4, 1934 son of the late Joseph and Lucy Saylor Brock. He had been a grader for a Lumber Company.

In addition to his prents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Zola and Judy Brock and brothers, Dewey and Arvel Brock and grandparents, Jonathon and Judy Wilson Brock.

He was a beloved brother of his sisters and their husbands, Phronia and Paul Parker of Pineville, Oma and Fred Helton of Kettle Island, Vina Smith of Straight Creek, Mary and Garner Middleton of Barbourville and Alice and McArthur Mills of Straight Creek and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services were Saturday at the Old Straight Creek Trinity Tabernacle with Rev. Danny Daniels, Rev. Bobby Grubbs and Rev. Herman Denny.

Music was by the church. Burial was in Salt Trace cemetery at Middlefork.

Family and friends served as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers were all of his many friends.

Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, Pineville, was honored to serve the Brock Family.
