Patterson, Paul Kenneth

Mr. Paul Kenneth Patterson, 61, of Barbourville, passed away Friday morning, January 19, 2007 in the Pineville Community Hospital.

He was the son of Clarence Edward Patterson and the late Martha Hale Patterson born on January 29, 1945 at Bimble.

Mr. Patterson was an equipment operator for the Patterson Chip Co. and was of the Baptist faith.

He enjoyed his motorcycle and woodworking.

On August 7, 1964, he united in marriage with Janice Patton at Heidrick and to this union two daughters were born.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, J. M. Patterson; his mother-in-law, Lavie Patton Langford; and his father-in-law, Paul H. Patton.

Survivors include his loving wife, Jan Patterson of Barbourville; his father, Clarence Edward Patterson of Barbourville; two daughters, Dana Centers and husband, Darryl, of Williamsburg and Kara Lefevers and husband, Will, of Pineville; three sisters, Kay Cole and husband, Harold, of Somerset, Ann Bays and husband, Jim, of Nicholasville and Mary Burch and husband, Bill, of Ashland; a sister-in-law, Betty Patterson of Turkey Creek; three grandchildren, Miciah Evans and wife, Kelly, of Flat Lick, Nathan Centers and wife, Sarah, of Alexandria and Bayler Lefevers of Pineville; among other loved ones and dear friends who mourn his passing.

His funeral service was conducted in the chapel of the KNOX FUNERAL HOME Sunday, January 21 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Ronnie Sizemore officiating.

Mr. Patterson was laid to rest in the Scalf cemetery.

Casket bearers were Darryl Centers, Will Lefevers, Kevyon Simmons, Bruce Hammons, Brian Smith and Rex Patterson.

Arrangements were under the direction of the KNOX FUNERAL HOME.

Patterson, Ronald Ray (Gomer)

BELL COUNTY — Services are being conducted in loving memory of Ronald Ray Patterson, 56, who passed away Saturday. Dec. 29, 2007, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.

Born March 26, 1951, in Bell County, he was the son of the late Oscar Patterson and Lillie Collett Patterson. He was a coal miner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Sue Patterson; sister, Essalene Phillips.

Survivors include his son, Justin Ray Patterson; stepson, Shane Phelps; brothers, Luster (Rennie) Patterson, Dayton, Ohio, Custer (Garland) Patterson, Xenia, Ohio, Russell (Shirley) Patterson, Pineville, Oscar Junior "OJ" (Linda) Patterson, Pineville, Arnold Lee (Marlene) Patterson, New Tazewell, Tenn., Glenn (Doris) Patterson, Turkey Creek, Clyde (Mary) Patterson, Fourmile, Claude (Diane) Patterson, Pineville, and Michael (Carol) Patterson, Turkey Creek; sisters, Evalene Wagers, Dayton, Ohio, Tressie Mosley, Dorton Branch, Marie Jones, Dayton, Ohio; mother-in-law, Shirley Faye Sanders, Harrogate, Tenn.; brothers-in-law, Vernon Wagers, Dayton, Ohio, Sam Mosley, Dortons Branch, Benton Jones, Dayton, Ohio, and Junior Phillips, Jamestown, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Pauline Patterson; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31, at Creech-Durham Funeral Home with the Rev. Custer Watts officiating.

Music was also provided by Rev. Watts.

Burial was at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1, at Acron cemetery at Mills, Ky.

Pallbearers were family and friends.

Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Creech-Durham Funeral Home, Pineville, which was in charge of arrangements.

Payne, Dorothy Baker

KETTLE ISLAND — Mrs. Dorothy Payne, 70, went to be with Lord on April 22, 2008. She passed away at the East Tennessee Baptist Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee.

She was born September 28, 1937, at High Splint in Harlan County, Ky., to the late George Matt Baker and Lucy Rice Winn. She was a retired from Housemark Mobile Homes. She was a member of the Old Straight Creek Trinity Tabernacle Church for many years. She was also a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three sons, Wayne Verdis, Wayne Curtis, and Harold; a daughter, Carol; sister, Wanda Moon; and half-brother, Billy Baker.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene Payne, Kettle Island; son and daughter-in-law, Curtis (Sherry) Knuckles, Pineville; daughters and sons-in-laws, Brenda Baker, Pineville, Wilma (Herman) Denny, Pineville, Lisa Knuckles Shell, Pineville, Karen Sue (Tony) Saylor, Kettle Island; stepchildren, Gerald (Beth) Payne, Lexington, Ky., Pat (Tommy) Storms, London, Ky., Marty (Kathy) Payne, London, Ky., Ricky Payne, London, Ky., Pam (Stacey) Smith, London, Ky.; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Robert (Pat) Baker, Ft. Wayne, Ind., Vernon (Judy) Baker, Ft. Wayne, Ind., Carl (Carol) Baker, Ft. Wayne, Ind., David (Jerilynn) Baker, Brownies Creek, Ronnie (Rayleen) Baker, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; half-brother, Junior Ray Baker, Barbourville, Ky.; sisters, Zella Philpot, Cincinnati, Ohio, Carolyn (Fred) Deckard, Perry, Ind.; half-sister, Amanda Baker, Barbourville, Ky.; grandchildren, Shawn Gibson, Todd Smith, Lindsey Knuckles, Kristen Denny, Kacy Denny, Josh Knuckles, Tyler Shell, Brittany Saylor, Shawna Cottongim; 10 step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Paige Gibson, Courtney Gibson, Lauren Gibson, and Jake Gibson; three step-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends and special friends extended ladies church family.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Old Straight Creek Trinity Tabernacle with the Rev. Mark Mahurin, the Rev. Danny Daniels, the Rev. Bobby Grubbs, and the Rev. Hermand Denny. Music will be provided by the Old Straight Creek Trinity Tabernacle Church Singers, Mark Mahurin, Baker Family, and Curt and Josh Knuckles.

Entombment will be the Green Hills Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Payne, Rosella Carpenter

JELLICO, Tenn. - Rosella Carpenter Payne, 76, formerly of Pineville, passed away Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at Jellico Community Hospital.

She was born Sept. 8, 1929, in Bell County, a daughter of the late Dewey Carpenter and Loretta Hart Carpenter. She attended Tannery Hollow Church in Jellico, and had worked for Bell-Whitley and Pineville Community Hospital.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruby Jean Carpenter, Marie Lowe, June Roberts; and one brother, Robert Carpenter.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James Dewey and Janice Payne, Harrogate; daughter, Thereesa Overbey, Jellico; four grandchildren, Joy Denise Sweat, Harrogate, Tenn., James Dexter Payne, Middlesboro, Josuah Kenneth Overbey, Jellico, and Kayleigh Joann Overbey, Jellico; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Creech-Durham Funeral Home with the Rev. Lester Cox and the Rev. Murphy Buell presiding.

Music will be by the Hensley Chapel Baptist Church choir.

Interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pineville Memorial cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Creech-Durham Funeral Home, Pineville, which is in charge of arrangements.

PHILPOT, BARRY DEWAYNE

37 of Barbourville, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2005 as the result of an ATV Accident.

He was born in Pineville on September 15, 1967 the son of Bobby Ray and Hazel Laws Philpot.

He was a member of the Barbourville Church of God and had been an English teacher at Bell County High School for sixteen years.

Survivors include his son, Jared Clinton Ray Philpot, parents, Bobby Ray and Hazel Philpot, brother and sister-in-law, Stephen Ray and Penny Philpot, special niece and nephew, Sheena Nicole and Stephen Cole Philpot, special great-nephew, Travis Ethan Smith, grandmother, Marie Philpot, loving friend, Heather Nolan, aunts and uncles, Henrietta and Johnny Young, Joyce and Carl Miracle, Janice and Clarence Thompson and Eugene and Jessie Philpot; cousins, Karen, Lisa, Jason, Donnie, Rusty, Dusty and Danny; the mother of his son, Melissa Conn, former parents-in-law, Clinton and Joyce Hoskins, special grandparents, Bill and Muriel Hoskins, former sister-in-law, Heather Hoskins and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were Wednesday at the Bell County High School Gymnasium with Rev. Clayton Barton, Mr. Dudley Hilton and Rev. Travis Wilder.

Music will be by Stephanie Turner.

Burial was in the Pinelawn Memorial Gardens, Pineville.

Pallbearers were Billy Hoskins, Wesley Hoskins, Rodney Slusher, Tim Roark, Dale Hoskins, Charles Lynn Hampton and Tommy Gambrel.

Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Saylor, Albert Moreland, D.J. Boggs, Vernon Swords, Dudley Hilton, Dr. Jerry Woolum, Hunk Johnson, Brian Crawford, Bo Callebs, Tom Greer, Tommy Lefevers, Donnie Lefevers, Brian Yankey, Wayne Mills, Jimmy Coomes, Chris Warren, Travis Wilder, Mark Owens, Chris Carnes and everyone he worked for and with at Bell County School System. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Jared Philpot Scholarship Fund, c/o Bell County School System, 211 Virginia Ave., Pineville, KY 40977, ATTN: Donna Phipps or Pam Greene. Arrangements are by Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, Pineville, KY.

Potter, Rose Marie Best

Rose Marie Best Potter, 71, of Arjay, passed away on Friday, July 6, 2007 at the Tri-State Health and Rehab Center. She was born in Russellville, AK on May 26, 1936 the daughter of the late John Leroy and Ila Linn Best. She believed in the Full Gospel Holiness Faith and had worked for Dwyer Instruments in Michigan City, IN.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Eli Botner "Rack" Potter, great-grandchildren, Brett Sandifur and Chelsea Por
ter, step-son, Michael Potter and brother, Burt Best.

Survivors include her children, Wanda Lee and Larry Faber of Middlesboro, Carrie Ila Jean Anchors of Jasper, AL and Donita Julene Martino-Garrison and Steve Pearson of Salt Lake City, UT; grandchildren, Norma and Marcus Rose, Clarence Charles Eli McCay, Alicia Rae Anchors, Gina Martino, Christian Garrison, Shila Denise Johnson and Leann Miller; great-grandchildren, Brandon McCay, Ruthie Rose, Haley Sue McCay, Casey Eli Johnson, Ashley Porter and Brittany Porter; sisters and brothers, Lynda Gail and Richard Sanders of Hammond, IN, Ruth and Dee Tippen of Russellville, AK, Burl Hayes and Mary Best of Branson, MO and John Dallas and June "Babe" Best of Hammond, IN and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends

Services will be at 2:00 PM Monday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. Burl Hayes Best. Burial will be in the Green Hills Memorial Gardens, Middlesboro with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 PM Sunday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, Pineville.

Powell, Dorothy Taylor

Dorothy Powell was born in Arjay on Dec. 5, 1921 and passed away Friday, Sept. 8, 2006 at her residence in Corbin.

She was a member of Keck Baptist Church.

Her husband, Bradford Powell; two sisters; and one brother preceded her in death.

Her survivors include five daughters and their husbands, Wanda (Frank) Elam of Henderson, Nev., Betty (Tom) McGrath of Columbus, Ohio, Jan (Ed) Metzger of Corbin, Glenda (Russ) Helton of Corbin and Anna (Terry) Seals of Corbin; 11 grandchildren, Franklin and Roy Elam, Melissa Miller, Tommy and Michael McGrath, Denise Taylor, Brian Metzger, Renee Widymer, Kim Elliott, Janie Keith and Stephanie Jones; 21 great grandchildren; and a very special niece Marie Secen and her husband Matt of Somerset. She leaves behind other family members and many wonderful friends who will miss her very much.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12 at the Hart Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Carl Gallion and Rev. Jimmy Siler officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Hill cemetery.

Grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. today (Monday) at the Hart Funeral Home, located at 1011 Master St., Corbin.

Reed, Sylvia Louise Bailey

ROARK, Ky. — Sylvia Louise Bailey Reed, 69, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, at Manchester Memorial Hospital.

She was born on June 8, 1938, in Blanche, Ky., a daughter of the late Pete and Ada Mills Bailey. She was a member of Marcum Baptist Church, and had been a homemaker.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Burnette; sisters, Creasie Mills and Dora Warren; and brothers, John, Raymond and Walter Bailey.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Russell Reed of Roark; daughters, Deanna Slusher and husband James of Roark, and Abbie Burnette and husband Alan of Manchester; grandchildren, Kristen Ruth Burnette, James Brandon Slusher and Cody Russell Slusher; brothers, Ray Bailey and wife Virgie of Arjay, Bill Bailey and wife Tamara, and Elbert Bailey and wife Janice, all of Greasy Creek; sisters-in-law, Bertie Bailey and Nina Bailey; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Ward and the Rev. Sheldon Collett officiating.

Burial will follow in the Katie’s Creek cemetery at Roark. Pallbearers are James Slusher, Alan Burnette, James Brandon Slusher, Cody Russell Slusher, Jason Messer and Cody Bailey. Honorary pallbearers are her nephews.

Rice, Dorothy Partin

CALVIN - Dorothy Rice, 84, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital.

She was born June 10, 1922, in Whitley County, Ky., the daughter of the late Bill Partin and Maude Starrett Partin. She was a member of Blackstar Pentecostal Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Rice; daughter, Wanda Laws; son, Robert Rice Jr.; and two sisters, Juanita Rice and Chelsey Partin.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Rhonda Rice, Calvin, James and Vicky Rice, Indianapolis, Ind., J.C. and Judy Rice, Arjay; daughters and son-in-law, Imogene and Glenn Brassfield, East Bernstadt, Ky., Faye Helton, Calvin, and Chelsie Bishop, Calvin; sister, Nadine Smith, Pineville; grandchildren, Billy Ray Rice, Shawn Rice, Amy Davis, Debra Hopper, Jason Helton, Jason Rice, Melinda Rice, Kala Rice, James Rice, McKinsey Rice, Mitchell Brassfield, Jennifer Brassfield, David Laws, Calvin Laws, Earl Laws, Harold Gene Laws, Joann Brown, Lisa Bishers, Norma Gilmore, Joann Thompson, Charles Rice and Robert Rice; and a host of great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Creech-Durham Funeral Home with the Rev. J.C. Craig and the Rev. Bill Engle presiding. Music will be provided by Rosemary Jones and Blackstar Holiness Church singers.

Interment will be in Sizemore cemetery at Simms Fork. Pallbearers are Freddy Davis, Billy Ray Rice, Ray Harper, Arthur Napier, Benjamin Napier, Jason Rice and Albert Gregory. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the Creech-Durham Funeral Home, Pineville, which is in charge of all arrangements

Rice, Juanita

Huber Heights Juanita Rice, age 70, of Huber Heights, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2001.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Rice, Sr., in 2000.

Surviving are her daughters and son-in-law: Brenda Lazzara of Fairborn, Debbie and Curt New of PA; sons and daughter-in-law, Charley and Sue Rice of Huber Heights, Steven Rice of Englewood, Curtis Rice, Jr. of Huber Heights; sisters, Myrtle Jones of Dayton, Martha Bargo of KY, Distle Philpot of Cincinnati; Irene Helton of KY; 13 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; and a host of other relatives and friends.

If desired, memorial contributions can be made to the Hospice of Dayton in her memory.
