Rice, Mary Magdalene

STRAIGHT CREEK - Mary Magdalene Rice, 85, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, at the Middlesboro Health Care Facility.

She was born in Four Mile on Sept. 13, 1920, the daughter of the late Robert and Sallie Hendrickson Lisenbee. She believed in the Holiness Faith and had been a homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters, including Myrl Lowe.

Survivors include a sister, Lenna Potter of Chicago, Ill.; nieces and nephews, Darrell and Jean Lowe, Vernon Lowe, Wayne Curtis Lowe and Brenda Sue Lowe Charney; great-nephew, Brian Lowe; great-nieces, Hillary Lowe and Kim Marlow; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Messer presiding. Music will be by Mark Mahurin.

Burial will be in the Green Hills Memorial Gardens, Middlesboro. Pallbearers will be Vernon Lowe, Wayne Curtis Lowe, Brian Lowe, J.C. Mink, Paul Johnson and Danny Johnson.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Monday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, Pineville.

Roarke, Bill Jr.

LONDON, Ky. — Bill Roark Jr., 59 of London, KY passed away Saturday May 2, 2008, at his home. He was born on August 30, 1948 in Bell County, to the late Bill Roark Sr. and Sarah Brock Bowman. He attended Calvary Worship Center in London, Ky.

Survivors include the following members of his family: sons: Keith W. (Shannon) Roark, New Haven, Ky., Tim (Heather) Roark, Richmond, Ky.; daughters, Faith (Travis) Keck, New Tazewell, Tenn., Tiffany (Pete) Newby, Pineville; brothers, Johnny Roark, Peeples, Ohio, Willie Roark, LaFollett, Tenn., Ray Roark, Speedwell, Tenn.; sisters, Viva Broughton, Indiana, Dorothy Trump, Arizona, Nancy Wilkerson, Texas, Hazel Wilkerson, Dry Ridge, Ky., Pearl Wingier, Williamsburg, Ky., Reba Sexton, Middlesboro, and Amanda Henson, Covington, Ky.; eight grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends and loved ones.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Creech-Durham Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Dyche and the Rev. Louie J. Harrison officiating.

Burial will follow in the Roark Family cemetery at Carter Branch. Pallbearers will be David Ingram, Jonthan McGeorge, Pete Newby, Charles Miracle, Dewight Carnes, Kenneth Sams.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Creech-Durham Funeral Home, Pineville, which is in charge of arrangements.

Robbins, Edwin

Edwin Robbins, 69, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at his mothers residence.

He was born October 19, 1938 a son of Glessie Thomas Robbins Howard the late Ewing Gray Robbins.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one son, Eddie Dewayne Robbins; and four brothers Eugene, Warren, Darrell and Sonny Robbins.

Survivors include his son, Terry Robbins of Cumberland Gap; daughter, Lisa Bunch of Tazewell; three grandsons, Eddie Wayne Gray of Louisville, Shawn Anthony Robbins of Houston, Texas, and Chase Christopher Robbins of Houston, Texas; mother, Glessie Robbins Howard; the mother of his children, Lillie Robbins Gibson of Middlesboro; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Pineville Memorial cemetery with the Rev. Millard Robbins presiding. Burial will be in the Pineville Memorial cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, Pineville.

Sams, Alice

Alice Sams, of Pontiac, Mich., passed on to be with our Lord and her husband, Perry Sams (1913-1995) on Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at age 91.

Alice was a loving mother to 10 children, who were the joy of her life, James Arthur Sams and wife Jo, Kenneth Gene Sams and wife Vera, Mildred Ray Sexton and late husband Robert, Mary Frances Schultz and husband Dutch, the late Hershel DeWayne Sams and wife Betty, Roy Douglas Sams and wife Juanita, Rondel Sams and wife Phyllis, Norman Lee Sams and wife Sandy, Janice Sue Morris and husband Johnny, Jerry Lynn Sams and wife Diane; Alice was also a wonderful, inspirational grandmother to 29 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. Alice was predeceased by sisters Pearlee Keys, Maureen Estep and brothers Frank and Claude Turner and mother Hattie Bullox.

Mrs. Sams was born in Knox County, Kentucky on November 28, 1916 and moved to Michigan in 1964 after her husband retired from his 28 years as a coal-miner to begin his 11 years with GM Truck & Coach.

Funeral Services were March 15, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Coats Funeral Home, Waterford. Interment at Ottawa Park cemetery. Family received friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Beaumont Hospice.

Saylor, Mitchell Alan

KETTLE ISLAND - Mitchell Alan Saylor, 51, of Kettle Island, passed away Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006 at the Pineville Community Hospital.

He was born in Beverly on June 21, 1955, the son of Denver and Vivian Lawson Saylor of Kettle Island. He believed in the Baptist faith and had been a construction worker.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Angela Carol Saylor; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Saylor and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lawson.

In addition to his parents, survivors include sisters, Sharon Lynn Saylor and Leslie and Dewayne Brock of Kettle Island; a daughter, Amber Marie Hyden of Independence; granddaughters, Josie and Sadie of Independence; nephews, William Hunter Brock and Matthew Holden Brock of Kettle; a niece Isabell Grace Saylor of Berea; and a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, Pineville, where services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. Rondall Howard officiating. Music will be by Benny Howard. Burial will follow in the Saylor and Lawson cemetery at Kettle Island. Pallbearers will be friends of the family. Honorary pallbearers are Leon Lewis, Benny Howard and Farmer and Rose Saylor.

Saylor, Pauline Gambrel

Jenson - Pauline Gambrel Saylor, 92, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2006, at Pineville Community Hospital.

She was born in Jenson on Jan. 1, 1914, the daughter of the late Joseph and Doxie Mason Gambrel. She was a member of the Jenson Pentecostal Church and had been a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Corbet Saylor and a host of brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her sons, Jackie Saylor, Wendell Saylor, and Alva Saylor and wife, Lovena, all of Jenson; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Saylor cemetery at Jenson with the Rev. Darrell Lowe presiding.

Burial will be in the Saylor cemetery. Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. Saturday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, Pineville.

Simpson Glenda Faye

Arthur, Tenn. - Glenda Faye Simpson, 58, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, at Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Born Sept. 17, 1948, in Pineville, she was the daughter of late Raymond and Thelma Widner. She was a member of First Apostolic Church, where she ministered in praise worship, Sunday school teacher and outreach.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Widner.

Her love will continue to be shared by all those she touched.

Survivors include her husband, Jim R. Simpson, Arthur, Tenn.; sons, Delbert (Durrell) Jackson and Michael L. Jackson, both of Pineville; stepsons, Jimmy D. Simpson, Anthony (Tony) Simpson; stepdaughter, Priscilla M. Simpson; daughters-in-law, Tasha Daniels and Sunny Simpson; grandchildren, Jessica (Derrick) Barnett, April (Josh) Wright, Ashley (Jeremy) Barnett, Christopher D. Jackson, Michael A. Simpson, Joshua D. Jackson, Nathanael J. Simpson, and Megan Jackson; great-grandchildren, Kiearra M. Johns, Taylor Barnett; sisters, Dora Mae Akers, Betty Taylor, Laura Emery, Sue (Marshall) Baines; brother, Doyle (Phyllis) Widner; special friend, Terry Leach; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Apostolic Church with Pastor Ole Robinette and the Rev. Charles Bush presiding. Music will be by First Apostolic Church choir.

Burial will be in Pineville Memorial cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Jackson, Michael Simpson, Josh Jackson, Derek Johns, Justin Powers, Jeremy Barnett, Terry Widner, Jonathon Leach, Chuckie Ray Barnett. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Bush, Perry Evans, Ronnie Wade, Carson Keith and Kenneth Hensley.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Friday at First Apostolic Church.

Sizemore, Dorothy Messer

Dorothy Messer Sizemore, 86, of Flat Lick, departed this life Friday, Jan. 30, 2004 in Pineville Community Hospital. She was the daughter of Forrester Messer and Mary Bargo Messer, born to them in Knox County, Sept. 1, 1917. She united in marriage with Dillard Dee Sizemore on March 31, 1934. To this union, 12 children were born.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dillard Dee Sizemore; sons: Letcher and T.A. (Tubby); and grandsons: Joe Fischer and Tim Sizemore.

Mrs. Sizemore attended Concord Baptist Church and Flat Lick Pentecostal Church.

Mrs. Sizemore is survived by her daughters: Loetta Swanner and husband James of Greenville, S.C.; Bonnie Fischer and husband Herb of Ladoga, Ind.; Janie Grande and husband Edvard of Gray; Debra K. Chin of New York City, N.Y.; and Connie LeFevers of New Tazewell, Tenn. Her sons: Charles Sizemore of Flat Lick; Ken Sizemore and wife Roberta of Middletown, Ohio; Darrell Dee Sizemore and wife Joanne of Corbin; Douglas Walter Sizemore and wife Jackie of Gray; and Ronnie Sizemore and wife Cla Mae of Walker. Her two daughters-in-law: Patricia Sizemore of Flat Lick and Joanna Sizemore of Williamsburg and her brother: Lee Taylor of Middlesboro.

Mrs. Sizemore is survived by her grandchildren, Garry and Donnie Sizemore of Middletown, Ohio; Lisa Washam and husband Jamie of Flat Lick; Pamela Swanner, Bryan Swanner and wife Susan, all of Greenville, S.C.; Cathy Knowling and husband Toby of Ladoga, Ind.; Mike Fischer and wife Meschelle of Indiana; Andy Fischer, currently in Africa; Angie Sizemore; Vince Edward Sizemore and wife Cathie of Julian, N.C.; Diana Selby and husband Terry of Dayton, Ohio, Kristina Sizemore, Erik and Dorothy Elizabeth Sizemore, all of Middletown, Ohio; Mickey Kevin Bingham, Edward and Neil Grande, all of Gray; Alex and Amy Dee Sizemore of Corbin; Christopher Beau Chuen Chin of New York City; Misty Sizemore of Knoxville, Tenn. and Douglas Walter II and Sarah Rene Sizemore of Berea; Ricky Todd LeFevers and wife April, Travis LeFevers and wife Geri of Tazewell, Tenn. She is also survived by great grandchildren Cody Sizemore of Richmond; George Sizemore, J.J., Eric and Heath Washam of Flat Lick, Jeff Washam and wife Blaine of Barbourville; Andrew Swanner of Greenville, S.C.; Derek, Ashley and Katie Knowling; Amanda, Emily, MIchael and Grant Fischer of Ladoga, Ind; Raven Nicole and Vince Edward Sizemore Jr. of Julian, N.C.; Austin Selby of Dayton, Ohio; Kyler, Zachery and Latessa Sizemore of Walker; Aimee Madison LeFevers and Kensee LeFevers of Tazewell, Tenn.

Mrs. Sizemore is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mrs. Sizemore had three loving caregivers, Peggy Haynes, Denise Grubb and Barbara Brewer.

The family of Mrs. Sizemore extends its warmest and most sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. C.A. Moore and Dr. Talmadge Hays for their compassionate care. They also extend their warmest thanks to the entire staff of Professional Home Healthcare Agency.

Funeral services for Dorothy Messer Sizemore were conducted Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004 in Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Sowders officiating. Burial was in Hammons cemetery at Flat Lick. Pallbearers were grandsons. Hopper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Sizemore, Michael Wayne

Arjay - Michael Wayne Sizemore, 34 passed away on Monday, Dec. 25, 2006, at Pineville Community Hospital.

He was born in Pineville on July 16, 1972, the son of Ray and Mary Collett Sizemore. He was a member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church and had been a janitor at the Arjay School.

Survivors include his wife, Christina Mason Sizemore, daughter, Katelynn Nicole Sizemore, brother, David Sizemore and his wife, Karen; grandmother, Cleo Sizemore and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Hatton presiding.

Burial will be in the Sizemore Family cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Mason, Jamie Merida, Jake Mason, David Sizemore, Randall Mason, Caleb Gibson, Stevie Collett and Dale Saylor.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations toward the funeral expenses.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. Friday until the funeral hour at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, Pineville.

Lefevers, Arthur Ray

Arthur Ray Lefevers, 60, of Crystal River, Fla., died Wednesday, July, 19, 1989. He was born in Kettle Island, Ky., and came to Crystal River 17 years ago from Pineville, Ky.

Mr. Lefevers was an electrician, a WWII and Korean War Veteran, and member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union, and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are a son, William Lefevers, Crystal River; three daughters, Mrs. Brenda Freeman, Tampa, Mrs. Marshall Herring, Petaluma, CA, and Mrs. Frances Gillette, Crystal River; two brothers, Mr. Clifford Lefevers, Gibraltor, MI, and Mr. Silas Lefevers, Upland, CA; and two grandchildren.

Direct cremation was held under the direction of Inverness Chapel, of Hopper Funeral Home and Crematory.

Lefevers, Arthur

Lefevers, Owner of Jewelry Store Dies Thursday

PINEVILLE -- Arthur Lefevers, owner and operator of Lefevers Jewelry Store, died Thursday, Aug. 3 at Pineville Community Hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack. He was 58.

Mr. Lefevers, who resided at Log Mountain, was a native of Bell County and the son of the late henry and Maggie Hawkins Lefevers.

He operated his own jewelry store for several years and later become associated with the A. Rector Jewelry Store. Following Mr. Rector's death, Mr. Lefevers purchased the store.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Eula Lefevers; five sons, Franklin Lefevers, U.S. Air Force, Howard Lefevers, Johnson City, Tenn., Charles Ray Lefevers, Maryland, and Jerry Wayne and Arthur Lefevers Jr., Pineville; a daughter, Mrs. Irene Richmond, Pineville; a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Payne, East Liverpool, Ohio; a half-brother, Luther Turner, Middlesboro, and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Aug. 6 at the Durham Funeral home chapel with the Rev. Paul Gibson and the Rev. W.B. Bingham officiating. Burial was in Pineville Memorial cemetery.

Durham Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
