Funeral:
Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Brothers David Green and Robert Hull officiating.

Burial:
Graveside services will be conducted at Resthaven cemetery in Keith at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 22. Pallbearers will be grandsons Michael David Schraeder and Jeffrey Schraeder, Michael Kelly, Bob Platt, James Toll, Doug Arvin, Garry Lowe and George Joseph. Honorary pallbearers will be David Davies, nephews, and other en of the Loyall Church of Christ.

Survivors:
She is survived by two children, Fred Schraeder and wife Shirley, Clayton, California and Marilyn Schraeder , Loyall, KY; three grandchildren, Michael David Schraeder and wife Dawn, New Braunfels, TX; Jeffrey William Schraeder and wife Asheley, Concord, CA and Melissa S. Casas and husband Steve, Pleasant Hill, CA; four great-grandchildren, Adam Casas, Benjamin Schraeder, Elizabeth Ann Schraeder and Michael William Schraeder; sisters-in-laws, Edna Kirby, Homerville, GA and Hazel S. James, Franklin, KY. Several nieces, including her church family and those at the Horizon Adult Day Care Center where she went every day. Also those who have cared for her at Cumberland Valley Home Health Services, ARH Physical Therapy, ARH Home Health, special friends, Terri & Michael kelly, Mona Hutchinson, Mary Beth Till, Tannie Threadgill, special caregiver, Gaynelle Nolan, and longtime friend, Hazel Shell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.M. Schraeder; her parents, J.N. Kirby and Flora Barnett Kirby; maternal uncle and aunt, Robert Aylen and Carrie Barnett that raised her; Brothers, Aylen and wife Leila, Clayton and wife Ina and Howard Kirby; sister, Anna Kirby Stone and husband Homer.

Facts:
Docia Kathryn Kirby Schraeder, 97 of Loyall went to her heavenly home on Monday October 20, 2008 at the Harlan App. Reg. Hospital. She was native of Livingston, KY, but lived in Harlan County most of her life. She was a charter member of the Loyall Church of Christ (1927). She served as the pianist, organist, song leader and Sunday School Teacher for many years. She was a faithful member of the Loyall Church of Christ Ladies Aide, and has remained faithful to her church and the choral activities of the Harlan Independent School. Mrs. Schraeder graduated from Harlan High School in 1929, and attended Eastern Kentucky State Teacher’s College. She taught school at Fourmile, Loyall and Louellen. She was known as “Miss Docia” to many, and “Mama Schraeder” to the Musettes. She taught piano lessons for over 50 years. She was famous for her peanut butter roll and delicious cakes. She made birthday, wedding cakes, and anniversary cakes for several years.

In Lieu of Flowers
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Loyall Church of Christ, Harlan Musettes, Harlan Boys Choir, Harlan Middle School Choir or the Harlan Elementary Choir.

Loyall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Marshall Woodard

Visitation:
Visitation will be held after 4 pm Tuesday at the Cloverfork Missionary Baptist Church at Holmes Mill.

Funeral:
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 am at the Church with the Rev. Mike Blair officiating.

Burial:
Burial will follow in the family cemetery at Keokee with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Survivors:
Survivors include two sisters, Evelyn Wolfrey and husband, John, Poolesville, MD; Della Snodgrass, Holmes Mill; three nieces, Marsha McDonald, Kim Smith and Jamie Lawson; and a great-niece and great-nephew, Samantha and Bill McDonald. Also surviving are his aunt, Nadine Blair, who is another mother to all of us; her children, Betty, Johnny and Jerry Blair and their families; many other dear family members and friends; and his special love and friend, Ruth Cline.

:Preceded in death by:
He was preceded in death by his father, Ransom Woodard; his mother, Mary Catherine Oliver Woodard Blair; his step-father, Sherman “Pa” Blair; three infant brothers, Paul, Edward and Elmo Woodard; and his brother-in-law, Bobby Snodgrass.

Facts:
Marshall “Mot” Woodard, 68, of Holmes Mill, passed away suddenly Saturday, October 18, 2008, at his home. Born November 30, 1939 in Lee County, Virginia, he had lived and worked in many states, but Kentucky was his “home” always. He was a member of the UMWA, a retired coal miner, and an honorable Kentucky Colonel. Marshall loved the mountains, fishing and ginsenging.

Octa Maugins Blanton Howard

Octa Maugins Blanton Howard, 95, of Richmond, KY, formerly of Coldiron Ky. passed away Monday, March 1st, 2010 at her home. She was born June 19th, 1914 in Wallins, KY. Octa served as a postmaster for the United States Postal Service at Coldiron for many years. She was an avid reader, quilter, loved to flower garden and served as church pianist. She was a member of the Wallins Baptist Church.

She is survived by three children; Marlene Hatton and husband Larry of Richmond, KY. Feledra Reams and husband Alan of Ashland, KY and John Robert Howard and wife Betty of Charleston, SC. Surviving grandchildren include Maurice Dixon, Melissa Fannin, Bradley Hatton, David Hatton, Rebecca Teran and Elizabeth Howard. Seven great grandchildren survive. She is also survived by two brothers; Clyde Blanton of Louisville, KY and Ralph Blanton of Independence, KY. One sister; Janey Bartlett of Ashburn, GA. She is also survived by a special friend; Carolyn Keene of Richmond, KY. And several other relatives and friends also survive.

Preceding Octa in death are her parents; Robert Lee Blanton and Amelia Elizabeth Helton Blanton. Her husband; William F. Howard Jr. Eight siblings also precede Octa in death.

The funeral Service for Octa has been scheduled for Saturday, March 6th, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Carmical officiating. Burial will follow the funeral at the Park-Howard cemetery in Wallins, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

The visitation for Octa has been scheduled for 12:00 to 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 6th, 2010 in the chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home

Sarah Jane Shepherd 95, of Graysknob & Smith, Ky. passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital. She was born October 9, 1913 in Harlan Co. Ky. Ms. Shepherd was a homemaker and believed in the Church of God faith

Survivors include one daughter, Victoria Johnson Hubbard and husband, James, Mt Carmel, TN; one son, Sean Tolaver, Partridge; one brother, Keith Owens and wife, Wilma and one sister, Ernestine “Tiny” Owens Creech and husband, Ronnie, all of Partridge; grandchildren, James Jeremy Hubbard, Mt Carmel, TN; Tabitha LeAnne Hubbard, Chattanooga, TN; Zachery Tolaver and Nicholas Tolaver, both of Bell County KY; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles (Lindberg) Tolaver; her parents, Riley E. and Samantha Raleigh Owens; and two sisters, Sylvia Owens Works and Dana Owens Dixon.

Facts:
Geneva Owens Tolaver, 67, of Partridge, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at Whitesburg ARH following an extended illness. Geneva was a native of Partridge and had lived there most of her life. She was educated at Stuart Robinson Boarding School and continued her education at Eastern Kentucky University. She worked at several occupations including factory work, substitute teacher, but her favorite was being a homemaker and loving mother. She was a devoted Christian and longstanding member of Eolia Baptist Mission. Her favorite recreations included quilting and watching UK Basketball. She will be greatly missed by her family, many friends, and neighbors.

Charline will be missed by her husband, Rev. Tom Ward, whom she married March 5, 2004; her daughters, Cathy Stanton and Phronia Kramarczyk and her husband, Steve, all of Richmond; a sister, Maxine Ball, of Hamilton, Ohio; 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren and a very special friend, Joan Ripley of Richmond.

:Preceded in death by:
Charline was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband of 49 years, Arch Wilder, on August 19, 1997; an infant brother, and her dog, Sugar.

Facts:
Charline L. Wilder-Ward, 78, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 16, at Arbor Trace. She was born March 5, 1930, in Evarts, Kentucky to Floyd and Minnie Sue Madden Lewis. She graduated the Pine Mountain Settlement School in Kentucky and lived in the Richmond area since 1948. She earned a bachelors degree in Social Work, studying at Eastern Kentucky University, Ball State University and IU East. She taught Special Education students at Boston, Riley and Nicholson schools before her retirement in the early 1980s. She also taught Adult Basic Education at Richmond State Hospital. Charline was faithful to the Lord. She was a member of the Hopewell United Methodist Church and was an active ambassador of Christ, witnessing in nursing homes, hospitals, with her bus ministry and as a local organizer for the National Day of Prayer. She was active with the Red Bird Mission and did mission work on Sioux reservations out west. She enjoyed going to flea markets and attending court trials.

Step-father; Harvey Napier of Graysknob, Ky. Two brothers; Billy Wayne Bowman of Evarts, Ky. Mack Napier & wife Trina of Evarts, Ky. Two sisters; Beverly Napier of Evarts, Ky. Vickie Blanton of Louisville, Ky. Special brother-in-law; Jim Collins of Cawood, Ky. Special friends; Allen, Prindle, Emily & Harlee Sergent. Special niece & family; Tonya, David, Haley, Ethan & Gracen Anderson. Lisa Bennett, Chelsey, Blake & Noah. And several other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends also survive.

Gary Lee Bowman 51, of Baxter, Ky. passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at his residence. He was born August 26, 1957 in Harlan, Ky. Mr. Bowman was a retired Heavy Equipment Operator and believed in the Pentecostal faith.

Thomas Pruitt
1926-2008

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. at the Harlan Church of Christ, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at the Harlan Church of Christ.

Survivors:
He is survived by brother, Dr. Ronald Anthony Pruitt and sister-in-law Gene Goley Pruitt of Burlington, NC. He is also survived by daughters Gail Pruitt Hall and husband Davey Hall of Atlanta, Laura Pruitt Bostrom and husband Niels Robert Bostrom of Versailles, KY, Mary Pruitt Walter and husband Otto Walter of Bradenton, FL, and daughter-in-law Donna Hale Pruitt of Waynesville, GA, wife of Thomas D. Pruitt III, deceased. He is also survived by grandchildren Maria Shake' Bostrom, Cincinnati, OH, Peter Christian Bostrom and Anna Rachel Bostrom of Versailles, KY, Lauren Elizabeth Walter and Andrew Thomas Walter of Bradenton, FL, Abigail Grace Pruitt and Harlan Thomas Pruitt of Waynesville, GA and Jay Jones, Donna's son of a previous marriage.

He was preceded in death by his wife Shake' Laura Hekimian Pruitt January 15, 2007.

Facts:
Thomas David Pruitt Jr., of Harlan, KY, died December 18, 2008, at his home.Born July 14, 1926, in Nashville, TN, he was the son of Gertrude Bookout and Thomas D. Pruitt, Sr.Resident of Harlan since 1957, Dr. Pruitt worked in Internal Medicine and in Ophthalmology at the Harlan Miner's Memorial Hospital and the Daniel Boone Clinic. He volunteered in responsible positions in the hospital staff organization and in several community organizations including boards of the Harlan Public Library and the Pine Mountain Settlement School. He and his wife Shake' supported community arts activities and served at Christ's Hand's Community Kitchen. Most significant to him was his brief stint as minister of Smith Presbyterian Church and the many years he served as lay minister and Bible teacher at the Harlan Church of Christ. Thomas (called "Whitey" by his fellow soldiers because of his sunbleached hair) served in the U.S. Army during WWII. After Officer Candidate School he served with occupation troops in Germany. Since retirement "Dr. Tom" pursued his many life-long creative and intellectual interests, participating as a Donovan Scholar at Southeast Community College in literature, history, and studio arts courses, listening to music, and reading on a wide range of topics. He especially enjoyed his Wednesday evening Bible class and talking with friends who frequently called or came by the house to visit.

Survivors include a son, Bucky Vanover and wife Chasity, Loyall; a daughter, Christina Fredrickson and husband Michael, Rosspoint; three sisters, Robin Oaks and husband Bob, Barbourville; Jawanjean Barton, Middlesboro; Tammy Vaughn, Evarts; two brothers, Terry Day and wife Debbie, Barbourville; and Melvin Day, Jr. and wife Maria, Dartmont; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and dear friends.

Crystal was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin Day, Sr. and Betty Ann Zitt Day.

Facts:
Crystal Vanover, 52 of Rosspoint, entered Eternal Rest on Thursday, December 18, 2008 at UK Medical Center in Lexington following an illness. A native of Kenton County, Crystal had lived in Harlan County most of her life. She worked in mapping and surveying for the Harlan County PVA office. She was a member of the Poor Fork Church of Christ. Crystal was active in the community in many ways, including coaching sports and cheerleading while her children were involved. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed four-wheeling and fishing. She was an avid supporter of the U.T. Volunteers.

Charles Bethel McKnight Jr.

Visitation:
Visitation will be held 5-8pm Sunday, December 21, 2008 at Tri City Funeral Home in Benham.

Funeral:
Funeral services will be conducted at 1pm Monday, December 22, 2008 in the Chapel of Tri City Funeral Home with Rev. Mike McKnight officiating.

Burial:
Interment will follow in Hall cemetery at Cloverlick. Graveside military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 5171 of Cumberland. Cole Wilson, Zachary Wilson, Aaron Tackett, Randall Tackett, Sean Tolaver, Brent Raleigh, and Larry Gilliam will serve as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Darlene Cress McKnight, Partridge; four children, Connie McKnight, London; Kim Telscher, Cincinnati, OH; Tracey Tackett, Cumberland; Charlotte McKnight, Partridge; three brothers, Roy McKnight, Gallatin, TN; Harold McKnight, Harrison, MI; Roger McKnight, Dandridge, TN; four sisters, Doris Phipps, Cumberland; Betty Phipps and Pauline Trent, both of Partridge; Bonnie Logins, Cornelia, GA; grandchildren, Chuckie, Jessica, Aaron, Cole, Zachary, Brandon, and Nicholas; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bethel and Pearlie Mae Estep McKnight.

Charles Bethel McKnight, Jr., 77, of Partridge passed away Friday, December 19, 2008 at his home. Charles was a native of Cumberland and had lived in the area most of his life. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and a retired coal miner. He was a member of Cloverlick Free Will Baptist Church.
