BALDWIN - Services for Wanda Barrilleaux Gianfala, 59, will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. Mitchell Guidry officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services with an 11 a.m. rosary.

A native of Charenton and a lifelong resident of Baldwin, Mrs. Gianfala died at 9:10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center in Lafayette.

She is survived by three sons, and their wives, Gordon and Sonya Gianfala of Franklin, and Blane and Natalie Gianfala, and Chad and Jill Gianfala, all of Baldwin; two daughters, Melissa Gianfala of Baldwin, and Lyndra Broussard, and her husband, Mark, of Franklin; two brothers, Alfred "Al" and Timothy Barrilleaux, both of Baldwin; two sisters, Carolyn B. Leger and Katherine "Kitty" B. Stubbs, both of Lafayette; and six grandchildren, Raygan and Kady Gianfala, and Jessica Pride, all of Franklin, and Thad, Michael and Morgan Gianfala, all of Baldwin.

Mrs. Gianfala was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Gianfala; and her parents, August and Jeanne Kidder Barrilleaux.

Ibert's Mortuary Inc. of Franklin is in charge of arrangements.

ABBEVILLE - Services are pending for Janie Languirand, 81, who died today, Sept. 6, 2000, at her residence in Abbeville.

Amelia Hill

Services are pending for Amelia Hill, 90, a Jeanerette resident, who died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at Iberia Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

Jones Funeral Home Inc. of Franklin is in charge of arrangements.

Cora A. King

Services for Cora Ann King, 46, will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at Mount Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Norbert officiating. Interment will be in St. Matthew cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday from 7:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Journet and Bolden Funeral Home Chapel.

A native of Jeanerette and a resident of New Iberia for 28 years, Mrs. King died at 1:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at a Lafayette hospital following a brief illness.

She is survived by her common law husband, Mack Williams of New Iberia; five brothers, Ronald King of New Iberia, Robie and Harvey King, both of Lafayette, Issac King Jr. of Beaumont, Texas, and Wendell King of Houston; her stepbrother, Troy Lavy of Jeanerette; five sisters, Hedy and Kaye King, and Marsha K. Locks, all of New Iberia, and Debbie Cunningham and Lena King, both of Beaumont, Texas; her stepsister, Carolyn Duchane of Jeanerette; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. King was preceded in death by her parents, Cora and Issac King Sr.; her brother, Cornelius King; and her sister, Donna King.

Pallbearers will be family members.

Journet and Bolden Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph I. Lege

ABBEVILLE - Services for Joseph Irvin Lege, 75, will begin at 2 p.m. today at David Funeral Home.

Visitation will be until 1:45 p.m. today at the funeral home.

A native of Pecan Island and a resident of Abbeville, Mr. Lege died at 2:52 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at the Methodist Hospital in Houston.

Mr. Lege was a veteran, having served during World War II and worked as a boat captain in the Gulf of Mexico for many years. His spirit will always remain in the waters which he navigated for all eternity.

He is survived by his wife, Maize Breaux Lege of Abbeville; his father, Elie Lege of Kaplan; two sons, Bill R. and Bob J. Lege, both of Abbeville; his daughter, Belinda M. Lege of Abbeville; three brothers, Dalton and Jody Lege, both of Pecan Island, and Horace Lege of Kaplan; three sisters, Mrs. Lennis (Mary) Cormier, Mrs. Gervis (Rena) Leger and Carrie Courvillier, all of Abbeville; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Lege was preceded in death by his mother, Azemie Bourque Lege; his brother, Chester Lege; and two sisters, Betty Lou L. and Clara L. Bertrand.

Services are pending for Gurlie Picard, 69, who died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at a Lafayette hospital.

Lucille Thomas

ST. MARTINVILLE - Services for Lucille Thomas, 80, will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Notre Dame Catholic Church with the Rev. Augustine officiating. Interment will be in St. Michael cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-10 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. rosary at Eternal Garden Funeral Home, which will reopen Saturday from 7:30 a.m. until the time of services.

A resident of St. Martinville, Ms. Thomas died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at Iberia Medical Center in New Iberia following a brief illness.

Eternal Garden Funeral Home of St. Martinville is in charge of arrangements.

Cecile G. Vincent

Services for Mrs. Sandy Vincent, 86, the former Cecile "MeMe" Gachassin, will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Steven Leblanc officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter's cemetery.

Visitation will be until 10 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. rosary at David Funeral Home North, Trotter Street, which will reopen Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A native of Iberia Parish and a resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Vincent died at 6:35 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at Iberia Medical Center.

Mrs. Vincent was a daycare operator.

She is survived by her son, James L. "Jimmy" Romero, and his wife, Bea, of New Iberia; her daughter, Grace R. O'Brien, and her husband, Irving, of New Iberia; two brothers, Horace and Louis Gachassin Jr., both of New Iberia; her sister, Bernice Alvarado of New Iberia; two grandsons, Robert O'Brien of Centreville, Miss., and Brent Romero of New Iberia; three granddaughters, Tammy Gary and Dori Perez, both of New Iberia, and Karen Theriot of Broussard; her godchild, Mrs. Richard (Beverly) Hayes of New Iberia; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Vincent was preceded in death by her husband, Sandy Vincent; her parents, Louis Gachassin Sr. and Azilda Monnot Gachassin; her son, Patrick Earl Romero; four brothers, Adleys, Bill, George and William Gachassin; her sister, Elsie Thomassie; and two grandsons, Patrick O'Brien and Leslie Romero.

Pallbearers will be Cy Breaux, Brandon and Robert O'Brien, Brent and Saul Romero, and David Vaughn.

Honorary pallbearers will be Horace and Louis Gachassin Jr., Justin and Tim Gary, Richard Hayes, James Perez, and Chris and Greg Theriot.

Lelia Olivier

Services are pending for Mrs. Lelia Olivier, 78, of New Iberia, who passed away Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at Iberia Medical Center. Fletcher Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Saymar Gary Sr.

Services for Saymar Gary Sr. 77, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, with the Rev. Mike Guidry officiating. Internment will be in the Memorial Park cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-10 p.m. today, and the funeral home will reopen from 8 a.m. Monday until service time. There will be a rosary service at 6:30 p.m. today.

A native of Youngsville and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Gary died at 5:10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at a New Iberia hospital. Mr. Gary was a laborer employed by Levingston Shipyard in Orange, Texas.

Mr. Gary is survived by his son, Saymar Gary Jr. of New Iberia; daughter Dortien Ford of Orangefield, Texas; brothers Wilfred and Roy Gary of New Iberia; sisters Elma Myers and Norma Bourque of New Iberia; and one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Gary; mother Eva Viator Gary; stepfather Leon Gary; sisters Lorita Viator, Eugenia Dore and Shirley Hebert; and brother Amar Gary.

Pallbearers will be Barry Romero, Wilfred Gary, Roy Gary Sr., Armand Myers Jr., Lucius Viator and Jimmy Bourque.

Honorary pallbearers will be Eugene Gary, Mason Desormeaux Jr., Armand Myers Sr., and Dr. George Cousin.

James "Rudy" Rudolph Herring

A great father and husband

Services for Mr. James "Rudy" Herring, 53, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at David Funeral Home Chapel North, Trotter Street, with the Revs. Jude Halphen and Ed Downs officiating. Internment will be at Beau Pre Mausoleum in Jeanerette.

Visitation will be at David Funeral Home, Trotter Street, today from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. today. The funeral home will reopen Monday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Herring died at 12:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at Dauterive Hospital. He was an AXA financial advisor and certified in public accounting.

A leading authority on World War II Japanese weapons, he was a CPA in New Iberia for more than 30 years, working mostly in private industry. A member of the First Baptist Church and a former Deacon, Mr. Herring also taught gun safety with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office for 10 years. He was a member of Aurora Lodge 193 and a member of the Krewe of Andalusia. An avid collector with various collectibles, he loved his family, his computer, reading and old movies.

Mr. Herring is survived by his wife, Cindy Broussard Herring of New Iberia; mother Ruby Busby Herring of New Iberia; daughters D'Ann Lee Herring Duhon and Kelli Jean Herring Miguez, both of New Iberia; son Britton R. Herring of New Iberia; sisters Jane Rebecca Harang of Donaldsonville and Janice Rosalind Sonnier of Breaux Bridge; brother John Ray Herring of New Iberia; and granddaughter Chloe Ann Duhon. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raybon Herring.

Pallbearers will be Derk Duhon, Warren Harang III, Britton Herring, David Herring, John Ray Herring, Joshua Herring, Carson Sonnier and Michael Viator.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Kennel Brown, Dr. Agapito Castro, Dr. Alberto Palmiano, Sedrick Sonnier, Dr. James Walker and Victor Lamadrid.

Lilia Olivier

Loving mother, grandmother

LYDIA - Services for Mrs. Lilia Olivier, 78, wife of the late Harry Olivier Sr., will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, with the Rev. Richard Fabre officiating. Entombment will be in the St. Nicholas Catholic Church Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. Tuesday until the time of services at St. Nicholas, with a rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the church sanctuary.

A resident of Grand Marais, Mrs. Olivier passed away at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at Iberia Medical Center following a brief illness. She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, a member of St. Nicholas Holy Name Society, a former member of the Knights Of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Court No. 85, and was a former lunchroom employee of the Iberia Parish School Board.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Harry Olivier Jr., of Grand Marais and his wife Alma Olivier; daughter Mrs. Dalton (Sylvia O.) Boutte of Grand Marais; grandchildren Staff Sgt. Damian Boutte of Ft. Hood, Texas, Jeffery Boutte and Derek Olivier of Grand Marais; and great-grandchild Kyle Boutte of Oahu, Hawaii.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Olivier Sr.; parents Mr. Ives and Mrs. Lovenia Olivier; and brothers Charles and Frank Olivier.

Pallbearers will be Jeffery Boutte, Staff Sgt. Damian Boutte, Peter Olivier Jr., Murphy Boutte Jr., and Clifford, Leonard, James Aaron and Joseph Dolton Olivier.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Harry Olivier Jr., Michael "Lumus" Olivier, Dalton Boutte, Rodney Frilot, Spellman "Pookie" and Joseph Willis Olivier, Anthony Arceneaux and Lawrence Boutte Sr.

Ellen H. Derise

Most loving wife and mother

JEANERETTE - Memorial services for Mrs. Nolton C. Derise, 54, the former Ellen Hebert, will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with the Rev. Ed Degeyter officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

A native and resident of Jeanerette, Mrs. Derise died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at Iberia Medical Center in New Iberia.

Mrs. Derise was a beautician.

She is survived by her husband, Nolton C. Derise of Jeanerette; her father, Earl J. Hebert Sr. of Jeanerette; two daughters, Mindy Derise Jumonville and Penny Derise Stages, both of Jeanerette; two brothers, Anthony "Tony" Hebert of Broussard, and Earl J. Hebert Jr. of Lafayette; one sister, Teal Stroud of Labadieville; and two grandchildren, Linzy and Pherra Stages, both of Jeanerette.

Mrs. Derise was preceded in death by her mother, Geraldine Andre Hebert; and her sister, Penny Hebert.

Gurlie R. Picard

Services for Mrs. Leonie Picard, 69, the former Gurlie Roy, will begin at 1 p.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milton. Visitation will be at the David Funeral Home in Broussard began and continue today from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. A rosary service was Friday.

A native and resident of Lafayette, Mrs. Picard died at 8:50 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at Our Lady Of Lourdes Medical Center in Lafayette.

Mrs. Picard, a housewife, is survived by daughters Debbie and her husband, John T. Parrett of Milton, Tamie and her husband, Leroy J. Racca of Milton; sons Danny L. Picard and his wife, Donna of Milton, Warren J. Picard and his fiancee, Teresa Simon of New Iberia; sisters Luna Latiolais of Lafayette, Gernice R. Trahan and Earline "JoJo" Venable of Lafayette; brothers Carroll and Clorice Roy of Lafayette; grandchildren Thomas Earl and Rachael Parrett, Tasha Menard, Robert Racca, Ken and Derek Picard, and Tracy LeBlanc; and great-grandchildren Cierra, Devyn, and Aliyah LeBlanc.

Mrs. Picard was preceded in death by her husband, Leonie Picard; her parents, Lodias and Louise Trahan Roy; and granddaughter Sara Leeann Parrett.

Pallbearers will be John and Thomas Earl Parrett, Danny and Warren Picard, Leroy Racca and Aaron Trahan. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Picard, Carroll Roy, and Glen Trahan.

Connie Marie Petitfils

Services for Connie Marie Petitfils, 58, will begin 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peters Catholic Church. A native of Jeanerette and a resident of New Iberia, she died at 1:55 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at Lafayette General Medical Center.

Visitation time is Sunday from 4-10 p.m., and Monday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Rosary services will be Sunday at 7 p.m. The David Funeral Home of New Iberia North, Trotter Street, is in charge of arrangements.

Nita "Big Mama" Pierce

Services for Nita "Big Mama" Pierce, 79, the former Nita Chargois Thibeaux, will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday at Alex Lovett Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Arthur Lee Alexander officiating. A family gathering will begin at 3 p.m.

A native of Youngsville, she had been a resident of Jeanerette for 18 years. She died Tuesday, October 3, 2000, at Iberia Medical Center following a brief illness. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her daughter, Melba Chargois Sereal of Jeanerette; sisters Oliva T. St. Julian of Breaux Bridge and Olita T. Broussard of Lafayette; half-sisters Etta Mae Livings of Lafayette and Delores Williams of Port Arthur, Texas; and seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Mary Prejean Thibeaux; husbands Ernest Chargois and Benjamin Pierce; grandson Clifton Wayne Sereal; sister Rita T. Washington; brothers John, Ernest, Ulyess, Alex, and Gilbert Thibeaux; half-sisters Margorie T. Harrison, Audrey T. Mouton, Mayola Simon, Ella Mae Catalon, Mary Louise Butler, Elda Breaux and Elizabeth Steven; and half-brothers Dalton, Warness, Elton and Felton Thibeaux.
