Mercedes Eguren Alexandroff

JEANERETTE - Our mother once told us that her greatest accomplishment in life was that she was able to know and love so many people. Her exact words were "all that I am, I am because I have loved." Mercedes exemplified this because she came from a very loving family. Her parents were Dario Eguren and Raquel Tavolara Eguren and her siblings were Lucia, Teresa, Carmen, Blanca, Ellena, Raquel, Mario, Dario, Fernando and Isidro.

She lived her early life in her beloved country, Peru, where she met our father, Vladimir Alexandroff, who had emigrated from his home country, Bulgaria. With their strong love for each other, they were able to live so far away from their families. After sadly losing their first daughter, they lovingly raised four children, Mercedes, Raina, Lilliana and Claudia. At the end of her life she welcomed into her family, her son-in-law, Walter Wehmann and grandchildren, Alexander and Harrison.

Mercedes, known to most as "Meche," taught herself English and quickly integrated into her new community, Jeanerette, Louisiana. Most will remember her for her art and how she was able to lend her artistic skills to so many school projects. She worked and painted alongside local artists of the Bayou Art Gallery. She also taught painting at St. Joseph High School. Mercedes painted beautifully and many people have been privileged to be recipients of her paintings. And it is not by chance that in her last moments she mentioned the beautiful colors she was seeing.

Mercedes will be greatly missed and forever lovingly remembered.

The family would like to thank Iberia Medical Center Staff, Dr. James B. Falterman Jr. and staff, and AAA Home Health for the compassionate care given to our mother.
