FERRIDAY, La. - Services for Clodell Smith, 91, of Summit, who died Wednesday, May 12, 2004, in McComb, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jonathan King officiating.

Burial will follow at Legion Memorial cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home of Ferriday.

Visitation is from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Herman Jackson Jr.

Feb. 6, 1934 - May 11, 2004

WATERPROOF, La. - Services for Herman Jackson Jr., 70, of Waterproof, who died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church in Waterproof with the Rev. Robert Lee officiating.

Burial will follow at Good Samaritan cemetery in Waterproof under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home of Ferriday, La.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Jackson was born Feb. 6, 1934, the son of Herman Jackson Sr. and Willie Lee Mitchell.

He was a janitor for the Tensas Parish School Board and was a Baptist.

Survivors include his mother, Willie Lee Mitchell Jackson of Waterproof; wife, Annie Bell Jackson of Waterproof; sons, Herman Jackson III, Kenneth Jackson and Jerome Jackson of Kansas City, Mo.; daughters, Linda Crump of Waterproof, Carrie Lee Hamilton (Darrell) of Chicago, Ill., Hermanetta Jackson of Houma, La., Thelma Scott of New Orleans, La., Jill Mae Jackson of Chicago and Bessie Jackson Ransburg of Kansas City, Mo.; 26 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Geraldine Hendrixson Wiggins

May 4, 1920 - May 11, 2004

FERRIDAY, La. - Services for Geraldine Hendrixson Wiggins, 84, of Ferriday, who died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, in Ferriday, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sevier Memorial United Methodist Church in Ferriday with the Rev. Kevin Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Comer Funeral Home of Ferriday.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. on today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Wiggins was born May 4, 1920, in Madison, Ark., the daughter of Holly Sr. and Goldie G. Hendrixson.

She was a resident of this area since 1926. She was a homemaker and a member of the Sevier Memorial United Methodist Church in Ferriday.

Mrs. Wiggins was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Holly Hendrixson, Jr.; her first husband, Ferd Godbold; her second husband, Gordon Wiggins; and a son, Ed Godbold.

Survivors include two grandsons, James Edward Godbold and David Lawrence Godbold, both of Baton Rouge, La., formerly of Ruston, La.

Pallbearers will be John Rife, Andy Anders, Randy Miller, Mike Bowers, Kenneth Hedrick, Matt Colvin, Will Manning, Arch Turner III and Sammy Martien.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Anders, Bob Rife, Dr. Claude Current, James Moore, Ferd Godbold, and Bill Campbell.

Mrs. Leo "Pete" Young Sr.

Dec. 10, 1911 -- April 17, 2004

FERRIDAY, La. -- Services for Mrs. Leo "Pete" Young Sr., 92, of Ferriday, La., will be held at Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday on Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Pat Roller officiating.

Burial will follow at Natchez City cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home of Ferriday.

Mrs. Young was born on Dec. 10, 1911, in Aberdeen, Miss. She passed away Saturday, April 17, 2004, at her residence in Ferriday, La. She was a resident of Ferriday.

Mrs. Young and her late husband founded Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday, La., in 1934. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Ferriday, a Life Master bridge player, a former Pink Lady at Riverland Medical Center and a member of the Bruin-Vidal Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Leo Young Sr.; two sisters, Frances Harding and Miriam Davis Cother; and two brothers, Crawford Davis and Lt. Col. Eli Simpson Davis.

Survivors include three sons, Francis Leo Young Jr. and his wife, Jackie, both of Ferriday, La., James Edwin Young and his wife, Vera, of Ogden, Utah, and John Davis Young Sr. and his wife, Millie, both of Ferriday, La.

She was also survived by 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

The pallbearers will be Beau Young, Casey Young, Neal Young, Johnny Young, Scott Young, Ben Young, Barrett Young, Adam Mulvihill and Andy Mulvihill.

Honorary pallbearers will be the men of the church and Joe Webber.

The family will receive friends at Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

James M. Squyres

FERRIDAY, La. -- James M. Squyres, 49, of Copperas Cove, Texas, and formerly of Lake St. John, La., passed away at his residence on Friday, April 16.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Comer Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Mr. Squyres was a security guard.

Mrs. Jon Earle Towles

VIDALIA, La. -- Funeral services for Mrs. Jon Earle Towles, 77, of Vidalia, La., who died Friday, April 16, 2004 at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, La., will be today at 11 a.m. at Young's Funeral Home in Vidalia with Rev. Keith Zachary officiating.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Bonita cemetery in Bonita, La.

Mrs. Towles was a resident of Vidalia, La. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Raymond Towles; her parents, John Thomas Gates and Irene Anderson Gates; a brother, Derwood Gates; and four sisters, Estell Martinson, Dorothy McClendon, Gladys Swanner and Jessie Inez Gates.

Survivors include two sons, Ray (Patsy) Towles and John (Jackie) Towles, both of Gloster; three granddaughters, Jessica and Jason Lea of Sontag, and Brandi Leigh Towles of Gloster; three grandsons, Kyle and Tyler Towles and Doyle Havard, all of Gloster; and a great- granddaughter, Callie Rosa Lea of Sontag.

Pallbearers will be Darrell Naff, Douglas Herrington, Billy Don Towles, Craig Towles, Clifford Towles, Royce Gates, Randy Gates and Don Hodge.

Jack Collins

FERRIDAY, La. -- Visitation services for Jack Collins, 88, of Vidalia, who died Friday, April 23, 2004 at Veterans Affairs Center in Alexandria, will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Graveside services will be held at Lakeview Memorial Park in Longview, Texas. Interment will follow under the direction of Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Mr. Collins was a resident of Vidalia. He was a heavy equipment operator and of the Baptist faith.

Ruby M. Turner

Jan. 18, 1913 -- April 21, 2004

NEWELLTON, La. -- Services for Ruby M. Turner, 91, who died Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at Tensas Care & Rehab Center, will be Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Newellton Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Pearson officiating. Burial will follow at Canton cemetery in Newellton.

Mrs. Turner was born Jan. 18, 1913 in Newellton to parents Ezekiel and Henrietta Moore. Turner was employed by the Tensas Parish School System, where she retired from after 40 years.

She was a member of the O.E.S. of Tallulah, La., the Union Sisters Society in Newellton, the Retired Teachers Association and Grambling Alumni. She was a Baptist.

Turner was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jesse Turner Sr.

Survivors include one son, Dr. Jesse Turner of Newellton; one sister, Geneva Moore of Shreveport, La.; two grandchildren, Jesse Derrick Turner and Gwenetta Turner, both of Newellton; two great-grandchildren, Jessica Turner and Ariael Turner, both of Newellton; and two god-children, Dwayne Kelly and Kanayla Baker.

Marion "Bo" Arthur

FERRIDAY, La. -- Services for Marion "Bo" Arthur, 47, of Clayton, who died Saturday, April 24, 2004, will be Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at 10 a.m. at Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday with the Rev. John Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Young's Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Mr. Arthur died Saturday, April 24, 2004 at his residence in Clayton. He was a resident of Clayton and employed by D&D; Drilling as a driller in the oilfield.

He was preceded in death by his father, Shelby Lon Arthur, and sister, Helen Marie Arthur.

Survivors include his two daughters, Crystal Mason and Alexis Mason of Jena; his mother, Georgia Arthur of Clayton; two brothers, Harry Arthur of Clayton and Tommy Arthur of Norfolk, Va.; one sister, Sarah Cupit of Vidalia; three half brothers, Billy Ray Guillot of Dry Creek, Shelby Arthur of Buna, Texas and Wayne Arthur of Baton Rouge; and two half sisters, JoAnn Harper of Vidalia and Charolotte Rabalais of Baton Rouge.

Pallbearers include Bradley Cupit, Michael Cupit, J.D. Denny, Lazro Garcia, Larry Cowan and Marcus Scirroco.

Ruby M. Turner

Nicki Lee

NEW ORLEANS, La. - A jazz funeral for Nicki Lee, 56, of New Orleans, who died Saturday, April 24, 2004, at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, will be at 2 p.m. today in New Orleans.

A memorial in her honor to be held in Natchez will be announced at a later date.

Ms. Lee was born in Ferriday, La. and was a longtime resident of Natchez.

Survivors include her companion, Peter Ferrara; one daughter, Beth Spatafora; one grandson, Landon Fisher; and two brothers, Bruce Parker and Jimmy Parker.

Timothy John Edwards

Dec. 23, 1974 - April 28, 2004

JONESVILLE, La. - Services for Timothy John Edwards, 29, of Jena, La., who died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, in Jena, will be at 4 p.m. today at United Pentecostal Church in Jonesville with the Rev. Billy Brown and Brother Ross Ratcliff officiating.

Burial will be in Siloam cemetery in Aimwell, La. under the direction of Comer Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time today at the church.

Ligh Jefferson Jr.

June 16, 1933 - April 25, 2004

FROGMORE, La. - Services for Ligh Jefferson Jr., 70, of Ferriday, La., who died Sunday, April 25, 2004, at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, La., will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Baptist Church in Frogmore with the Rev. L.B. Oliver officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 pm on Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Jefferson was born June 16, 1933, in Frogmore, the son of Ligh and Annie Green Jefferson.

He was a farmer and a Baptist.

Mr. Jefferson was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Mary McKeel Jefferson of Ferriday; seven sons, Charles, Donald, Wilbert, Randy, Eric and Jerry Jefferson all of Ferriday; five daughters, Coretta Scott and Christine Jefferson of Detroit, MI; Rosie Hood (Robert); Betty Johnson (Herbert) all of Jonesville, La; Delores Myles (Charlie) of Wildsville, La.; seven brothers, Curtis and T.J. Jefferson of New Orleans, La; Tommy, Percy, Sammie and Danny Jefferson all of Ferriday; Roger Jefferson of Atlanta, Ga.; five sisters, Lucy Thames (Charlie) of New Orleans; Annie Bell Jefferson of Jackson, Inez Maxine Jefferson fo New Orleans, Thelma Jefferson of Washington, DC, Francis Jefferson of Natchez; forty-seven grandchildren and forty-two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
