Helen Ann Treadaway Cali, a paraprofessional with Fisher High School, died Tuesday of cancer at East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie. She was 47. Mrs. Cali was born in New Orleans and lived in Marrero for the past 23 years. Survivors include her husband, Frank C. Cali Sr.; two sons, Gregory Charles and Frank C. Cali Jr.; her father, Alvin J. Treadaway; her mother, Gloria Garrad Treadaway; two brothers, Michael P. and Alvin J. Treadaway Jr.; and a grandchild. A funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. at Mothe Funeral Homes, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery.

BROWN, MILDRED F.
March 28, 2002

Mildred F. Brown, a homemaker, died Tuesday at her home. She was 82. Mrs. Brown was born in New Orleans and lived in Harvey for the past eight years. She attended Rosenwald High School in Marrero. Survivors include three sons, Larry James Brown, Louis Anthony Brown and Lyle Steven Brown; four daughters, Loreta B. Anderson, Lois "Maxine" Brown, Linda A. Brown and Lenora T. Griffin; two brothers, Okley and Otis Fazande; two sisters, Ethel Conway and Joyce Davis; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Davis Mortuary Service, 6820 West Bank Expressway, Marrero. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Restlawn cemetery in Avondale.

TONCREY, HILRIE JOSEPH JR.
March 27, 2002

Hilrie Joseph Toncrey Jr., a retired electrician, died Thursday of brain cancer at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. He was 60. Mr. Toncrey was born in Algiers and lived in Gretna. Survivors include his wife, Roma Duplechin Toncrey; a son, Hilrie Joseph Toncrey III; a daughter, Kellie Toncrey-Ritchie; his mother, Lucy Caimi Toncrey; a brother, Ronnie Toncrey; and a grandchild. A Mass was held . Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery in Algiers. Mothe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

SINGLETON, THOMAS ‘PICILOW' JR.
March 27, 2002

Thomas "Picilow" Singleton Jr., a laborer, died Sunday at Charity Hospital of a gunshot wound. He was 36. Mr. Singleton was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He graduated from Walter L. Cohen Senior High School. He was a basketball coach at New Orleans Recreation Department. Survivors include two daughters, Tonas Blevins and Temero Walters; his father, Thomas Singleton Sr.; his stepfather, Lloyd Clark; his mother, Shirley S. Clark; three brothers, Brock Clark, and Chrishon and Joshua Cannon; and three sisters, Barbara and Louise Singleton and Sandy Anderson. A funeral will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Gaskin-Southall Gordon & Gordon Funeral Home, 1225 N. Rampart St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park.

RITCHIE, HILDA RHODES
March 27, 2002

Hilda Rhodes Ritchie, a retired registered nurse, died Friday at her home. She was 93. Mrs. Ritchie was born in Houma and lived in New Orleans for the past 78 years. She was former director of nursing at St. Anna's Residence Home. Survivors include a daughter, Joan F. Ritchie; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A private service was held Monday at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home Chapel, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Burial was in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.

PELZER, MARY FRANCES
March 27, 2002

Mary Frances Pelzer died Monday of multiple sclerosis at Ormond Nursing Care Center in Destrehan. She was 49. Ms. Pelzer was born in Austin, Texas, and lived at Ormond Nursing Center for the past 13 years. She graduated from St. Mary's Dominican High School and the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette. Survivors include a brother, Patrick J. Pelzer; and two sisters, Kathryn J. Pelzer and Gertrude A. Cooner Pelzer. A funeral will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West, Slidell. Visitation will begin at noon. Burial will be in Forest Lawn cemetery.

McCOLLUM, VERA THORNTON
March 27, 2002

Vera Thornton McCollum, a clerk typist, died Thursday of heart failure at Memorial Medical Center. She was 69. Mrs. McCollum was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She was a clerk typist for the city of New Orleans in the register of conveyances office. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she served as a Care Group leader and a member of the Sunshine Ministry and Bread of Life. Survivors include two sons, Leonard and Melvin McCollum; three daughters, Patricia Glass Miles, Claudette Price and Jerrlyn Calahan; three brothers, Daniel, Branchie and Jimmy Thornton; a sister, Alice Tucker Wade; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 4301 St. Charles Ave. Visitation will be Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Gaskin-Southall-Gordon & Gordon Mortuary, 1225 N. Rampart St. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park.

KIERNAN, CARALYN PALMERIA
March 27, 2002

Caralyn Palmeria Kiernan, a retired office clerk for Teamsters Union Local 270, died Sunday of cancer at her home. She was 66. Mrs. Kiernan was born in Alexandria and lived in Slidell for many years. She was the owner of Ka-Jo's Catering and Hi-Way Cafe in Chalmette. Survivors include two daughters, Tyra Evans and Arah Kiernan; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at 1 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 1050 Robert Blvd., Slidell. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Patrick cemetery No. 1. Williams Funeral Home in Pearl River is in charge of arrangements.

KENDRICK, WILLIE JAMES ‘SHOT' SR.
March 27, 2002

Willie James "Shot" Kendrick Sr., a building inspector for the St. John the Baptist Parish Planning and Zoning Department, died Saturday of a heart attack at his home. He was 63. Mr. Kendrick was born in Greensburg and lived in Reserve for 43 years. He was a former member of the Providence No. 1 Baptist Church of LaPlace before joining First Community Antioch Baptist Church in Lutcher in 1999. He was a member of the church's Brotherhood, Gospel choir, Pastor's Prayer Assembly Prayer Vigil and Management Board, and vice chairman of the deacon's ministry. Survivors include his wife, Donna Jean Perrilloux Kendrick; three sons, Willie Kendrick Jr. of Baton Rouge and Troy L. and Jason M. Kendrick; and five daughters, Valerie K. Jackson of Baker and Doreen K. Sanders, Tanya K. Edwards, Trina T. and Neka L. Kendrick; one brother, Robert Kendrick of LaPlace; four sisters, Georgia Mae Leonard of Mississippi, Evelyn Roux, Brenda Hughley and Sharon Hicks of California; 19 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Community Antioch Baptist Church, 10860 Louisiana 3125 in Lutcher. Visitation will be today from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Robottom Mortuary on Jefferson Highway and 26th Street in Reserve, and Thursday at 9 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Turner Chapel cemetery in Greensburg.

HUHNER, LOUIS JOHN
March 27, 2002

Louis John Huhner, a supervisor and dispatcher for ABF, died Monday at Memorial Medical Center. He was 76. Mr. Huhner was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He graduated from Soule College. He was a former dispatcher for Delta Motor Lines. He was a 35-year member and past king, officer, duke and treasurer of the Okeanus Carnival Krewe. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge -- Dante Lodge No. 174, American Legion Post 397, Korean War Veterans' Association of Louisiana Chapter, and VFW Post No. 4030. He was an Army sergeant and received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon with three bronze stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star, and three overseas service bars. Survivors include his wife, Gladys Karrigan Huhner; a daughter, Kathleen Huhner Spivack; three brothers, George L. Jr., William J. and Peter F. Huhner; a sister, Grace H. Zimmerman; and a grandchild. A funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Salem United Church of Christ, 4212 Camp St. Visitation will begin today at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Lakelawn Park Mausoleum. Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp is in charge of arrangements.

GATES, MARVIN JOSEPH JR.
March 27, 2002

Marvin Joseph Gates Jr. died Sunday of a heart attack at Kenner Regional Medical Center. He was 34. Mr. Gates was born in New Orleans and lived in Kenner for the past seven years. He was a graduate of St. Michael's Special School. He had been a volunteer at the Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff's Office, a first vice president of the Jefferson Lions Club, a member of We Care for Special People and the Pinnacles Club, and a charter member of the Special Bowlers Carnival Club. Survivors include his father, Marvin Joseph Gates Sr.; his mother, Jane Wiebelt Gates; a brother, Robert J. Gates; and a grandmother, Florence M. Wiebelt. A Mass will be said today at noon at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Lake Lawn Park cemetery.

EVANS, ROBERT FARRELL JR.
March 27, 2002

Robert Farrell Evans Jr., a retired engineer with the Jefferson Parish Department of Water, died Sunday of complications from diabetes at his home. He was 48. Mr. Evans was born in New Orleans and lived in Jefferson Parish. He graduated from Rummel High School and the University of New Orleans. Survivors include his mother, Helen Kuehne Evans; a brother, Patrick A. Evans of Biloxi, Miss.; and two sisters, Sheila T. Evans and Helen Evans Stimpert, both of Atlanta. A Mass will be said today at 10 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in All Saints Mausoleum.

DOGAN, JAMES WAYNE
March 27, 2002

James Wayne Dogan, a musician, died Friday of undetermined causes at his home. He was 55. Mr. Dogan was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a graduate of Polytech University in Ruston. He was a member of Mensa. He was a founding member, keyboard player and songwriter of the band The Revealers. Survivors include his mother, June Kavlich Dogan; a brother, David Allen Dogan of Metairie; and three sisters, Lauren D. Wilt of Jefferson, Carolyn D. Ryan of Jackson, Wyo., and Mary D. Burris of Baton Rouge. A graveside service will be held today at 9:30 a.m. at Metairie cemetery, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
