Larry Philip Berthold, died Wednesday of undetermined causes at Meadowcrest Hospital in Gretna. He was 52. Mr. Berthold was born in Dayton, Ohio, and lived in Gretna for the past five years. Survivors include his wife, Karen Woods Berthold; a son, Lenny Berthold; two daughters, Jamie Hunter and Cristina Coleman; his mother, Lorraine Levin; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 West Bank Expressway, Harvey. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m.

WORTMANN, CLARA OTILLAR
March 28, 2002

Clara Otillar Wortmann, a homemaker, died Tuesday of lung disease at her home. She was 74. Mrs. Wortmann was born in New Orleans and lived in Biloxi, Miss., for the past year. Survivors include two sons, Edward Wortmann Jr. of Marrero and David Wortmann of Slidell; two daughters, Judy Dixon of Houma and Barbara Melton of Biloxi; a brother, Pete Otillar; five sisters, Mary Ellen Meatte, Claire Foght, Rose Ricky, Hilda Dabria and Juanita Wortmann; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held today at 6:30 p.m. at Riemann Memorial Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi. Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m. Burial will be private.

WATTS, DOROTHY L. SMITH
March 28, 2002

Dorothy L. Smith Watts, a retired day-care worker and caregiver, died Tuesday at Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital. She was 80. Mrs. Watts was born in Mandeville and lived in New Orleans for most of her life. She was a day-care worker at Perrault's Kiddie College and a caregiver at Plantation Nursing Home. She was a member of St. Paul's Ladies Auxiliary and the Elegant Ladies. Survivors include four sons, Larry, Bruce, Carl Sr. and Wilbert A Watts Jr.; four daughters, Evelyn Dawson, Jacquelyn Watts, Beverly Smith and Denise Curtis; a stepdaughter, Wanda Santa Marina; two brothers, Clarence and Morris Smith; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 6828 Chef Menteur Highway. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Vincent De Paul cemetery, 1401 Louisa St. Boissiere-Labat Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

VINCENT, HENRY JAMES
March 28, 2002

Henry James Vincent, a carpenter, died Tuesday at his home of emphysema. He was 59. Mr. Vincent was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include a brother, Wayne Warren Vincent Sr., and two sisters, Ramona Barrios and Janet Martin. A funeral will be held today at 1:30 p.m. at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

TRAPANI, PAUL RAYMOND SR.
March 28, 2002

Paul Raymond Trapani Sr., a retired bartender at Boomtown Casino, died Tuesday of a stroke at Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 75. Mr. Trapani was born in New Orleans and lived in Harvey for the past 50 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Molinary Trapani; a son, Paul Raymond Trapani Jr.; a daughter, Linda Rita Trapani Beer; two stepsons, Russell A. and Paul A. Petta; two stepdaughters, Rosalyn P. Mayeux and Kim Phillips; a brother, Gasper A. Trapani; five grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 1 p.m. at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 West Bank Expressway, Harvey. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

SIMMONS, J.R.
March 28, 2002

J.R. Simmons, a contractor, died March 19 of a heart attack on Louisiana Avenue. He was 57. Mr. Simmons was born in Tylertown, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for the past 16 years. Survivors include his wife, Betty Simmons; two sons, Lorenzo Simmons Sumter of South Carolina and Nevin Simmons; two daughters, La Sanya Crawford and Trina Simmons; a brother, W.J. Simmons; two sisters, Irene Smith of Chicago and Carrie Simmons; and a grandchild. A funeral will be Saturday at noon at Rocky Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 234 Rocky Hill Road in Tylertown, Miss. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Rocky Hill cemetery.

RHEA, CHRISTIAN ‘ANNIE'
March 28, 2002

Christian "Annie" Rhea, a student at Sophie B. Wright Middle School, died March 20 of an asthma attack at University Hospital. She was 13. Miss Rhea was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include her father, T. Adams; her mother, Ermine Rhea; six brothers, Benjamin, Berson and Bendell Franklin, and Isreal, Adam and Christopher Rhea; eight sisters, Trina, DeJanero and China Rhea, LaCrisha and Letrice Franklin, Latashia F. Williams, LaTanya F. Jones and LaShawnda F. Patterson; and her grandparents, Ralph Rhea, Shirley M. Rhea and Rita Rhea Jackson. A Mass was said Wednesday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Burial was in Carrollton cemetery. Dennis Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

REILEY, JOYCE ANN BENNETT
March 28, 2002

Joyce Ann Bennett Reiley, a homemaker, died Monday at her home of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She was 59. Mrs. Reiley was born in New Orleans and lived for the past two years in Rayne. She was a graduate of East Jefferson High School. Survivors include her husband, Dennis E. Reiley; four sons, Michael and Robert Reiley, and Jeff and William Ola; a stepson, John Reiley; four daughters, Kathleen McNutt, Jackie Reiley, Denise Loper and Colleen Sellers; a brother, Henry V. Bennett; a sister, Mary Jane Bergeron; and 23 grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in the Port Hudson National cemetery in Zachary.

PINKINS, LAWRENCE SR.
March 28, 2002

Lawrence Pinkins Sr., a retired truck driver, died Sunday of heart failure at Meadowcrest Hospital. He was 71. Mr. Pinkins was a lifelong resident of Marrero. He graduated from Rosenwald High School and was a former employee of Celotex Cardinal Wholesale. Mr. Pinkins was the lead singer of the Golden Tones Quartet and was a member of the senior choir at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Odessa B. Pinkins; three sons, Peter, Allen and Lawrence Pinkins Jr.; three daughters, Bessie P. Smith, and Debra and Angela Pinkins; a stepfather, Peter Hicks; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 1000 Cross St., Marrero. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Bright Star cemetery in Marrero. Davis Mortuary Service is in charge of arrangements.

MAYS, BRUCE T.
March 28, 2002

Bruce T. Mays, an auto salesman, died Tuesday of heart failure at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. He was 44. Mr. Mays was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He worked for Leson Chevrolet and Line X. He was a member of Covenant Church. Survivors include his wife, Veneta S. Mays; three sons, Bruce Jr., Bryan, and Basil Mays; two daughters, Nadia and Brianne Mays; a stepdaughter, Catrina Blazer-Varnado; a stepson, Joe N. Blazer III; a sister, Alexia Mays Thompson; and four grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Metairie cemetery.

March 28, 2002

Verna Lockett, a retired seamstress, died Monday at Chalmette Medical Center. She was 87. Mrs. Lockett was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She retired from Deansgate Factory. She attended McDonogh 35 High School. She was an usher at Holy City Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Vernon Allen; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 9 a.m. at Holy City Missionary Baptist Church, 4808 Flake Ave. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in Resthaven cemetery. Majestic Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

March 28, 2002

Catherine Henry, a homemaker, died Monday of a heart attack at Chalmette Medical Center. She was 74. Mrs. Henry was born in Gulfport, Miss., and lived in Arabi for the past 45 years. Survivors include her husband, Leslie J. Henry Jr.; three daughters, Cheryl Lambert, Cathy Montelius and Allison Parks; and four grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 12:15 p.m. at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

CAMPBELL, BEVERLY FUNCK
March 28, 2002

Beverly Funck Campbell, a homemaker, died March 12 of congestive heart failure at her home. She was 61. Ms. Campbell was born in New Orleans and lived in Marrero for the past 30 years. She graduated from Warren Eastern High School in New Orleans. She was former owner of the Garden Grill in New Orleans and a former employee of K&B; and Gloria's Ceramics. Survivors include two daughters, Julie Campbell Swaney and Susan Campbell Elliott; three brothers, John Funck Jr., Victor Funck and Jimmy Jones; three sisters, Charlene Jones of Florida, Jamie Jones and Joyce Laurie; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A Mass was said March 16 at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 West Bank Expressway. Burial was in Cypress Grove cemetery in New Orleans.
