DANNY LINDSEY
Daniel Norman Lindsey, Sr., 78, of Longville, LA, passed from this life on Wednesday, July 13, 2016.
Dan was a Navy veteran, serving his country on President Kennedy’s ship the USS Northampton from 1958-1963. He was aboard the ship heading to Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962. He spent 10 years in telephone construction with his father. For 36 years he worked alongside his son in the trucking business in Longville. He served as Master of Magnolia Masonic Lodge, was a member of the Habibi Shrine Center, member of the DeQuincy Shrine Club, and officer on the Board of Control of the DeRidder War Memorial Civic Center. He served 12 years as the fire chief for the Longville Volunteer Fire Department and worked as an election commissioner for his precinct.
Dan is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Lou Lindsey, daughter Katy Lindsey and son Dan Lindsey, Jr.; grandsons, Daniel (Chip) Lindsey, III and Jonathan Lindsey of Longville, LA; granddaughter, Anastasia Lindsey of Bougama, Russia; great grandchildren, Danni Kay, Dax Haze, Demi Monroe, and Aailyah Marie Lindsey, all of Longville; brother, Russell Lindsey and wife Pat of Gainesville, GA; sister, Peggy Haws and husband Joe of Shreveport, LA; sister, Patty Hall and husband Ed of St. Amant, LA; sister-in-law, Nancy Smith and husband Wayne of Porter, Texas; sister-in-law Jimmie Hennigan of Merryville, LA; brother-in-law Bill Bennett and wife Phyllis of Longville, LA; and many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 15, 2016 from 6:00-9:00 pm at Magnolia Baptist Church in Ragley, LA. Visitation will continue on Saturday, July 16, 2016 from 10:00 am until the time of funeral services at 4:00 pm, also at Magnolia Baptist Church. Reverend David Free will be officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia cemetery also in Ragley.

GREGORY THOMAS

Gregory Thomas, 49, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Sunday, July 10, 2016 in Sulphur, LA.

Mr. Gregory liked to fish and hunt. He worked 25 years as a cement finisher. He loved all sports. Mr. Gregory was comical and well loved by his family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Frankie Hightower Johnson; sons, Brandon, Gregory, & Cameron; daughters, Naqita & Lacy; brothers, Pat Thomas III, Larone Myles & wife Gwendolyn, Keith Johnson, Curtis Johnson & wife Ebony, Jermaine Johnson; sisters, Rechelle Harvey & husband John, Patricia Freeman & husband Leon; and one grandchild.

Mr. Gregory was preceded in death by his father, Pat Thomas, Jr.; grandparents, Bessie Mae Gamble, Clarence Hightower, Pat Thomas, Sr., Adlene Palmer-Thomas; step father, Thelton Johnson.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016 from 9:00AM – until time of service. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 1:00PM all at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA. Pastor Louis F. Guy will officiate. Interment will follow at Beauregard cemetery in DeRidder, LA.

RICHARD "GARY" WILSON

Richard Gary Wilson was called home on Monday, July 11, 2016 at 7:19 AM surrounded by family. He was of the young age of 72 years. He was born July 19, 1943 in Talladega, AL. He was a brick mason for 50+ years up until the time of his illness. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Negreet, LA as well as the Sportsman’s Bass Club of Southwest Louisiana for 30+ years. His passion for fishing drew him from fishing hole to fishing hole on Toledo Bend Lake. His inspiration and influence was far reaching, well beyond hunting and fishing.

His ambition for success translated into all aspects of life, guiding others thru their journey to achieve their highest potential.

He was of non-denominational faith, his love for Jesus Christ and the gospel were central to his character. As much as he loved hunting and fishing, he loved God above all and reading and studying his bible.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helen Marie Burge Wilson, his son: Richard Allen Wilson, his daughters: Debbie Renee Draper, Sheila Marie Duncan, Kimberly Suzanne Simmons (Tony), Kerry Lynn Lack, and Anneliese Jane McGregor, all of DeRidder, LA, twelve grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a very special friend Janice Williamson.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 from 5:00-9:00 PM at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Grace Church in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow at Newlin cemetery in Singer, LA.

Corrine "Dollie" Parker

Corrine “Dollie” Parker Knight, 61, died peacefully on July 7, 2016 in DeRidder, Louisiana after a struggle with ovarian cancer.

Dollie was born April 20, 1955 to Hugh and Adel Parker in DeRidder, Louisiana where she resided most of her life. She was a loving and devoted mother, sister, and friend, but her joy came from spending time with her grandchildren. She would travel to Mississippi and Texas to cheer them on from activities including baseball, football, dance, pageants, 4-H, and fair activities.

She also had a passion for gardening. Dollie proudly hibernized many cannas including: Pistol Pete, Cajun Salsa, Adel’s Cajun Moon, Jared Zenz, Sierra’s Sunset, and MiKaela’s Dream. Dollie was a member of the Brugmansia Growers International as well as other gardening organizations.

Dollie was involved in directing many pageants, as well as being the chairperson for the Miss Roses in the Pine.

She enjoyed being a member of the Rosepine Historical Society and was instrumental in promoting the Rosepine/Evans Historical Park.

Dollie was preceded in death by her son: Charles Michael Knight, Jr. and her parents: Hugh “Pete” & Adel Fee Parker.

Survivors include her children: Cheri (Aaron) Dettori, Corey Brister, Chad Brister, Brad Brister, Stephanie (Shon) Calcote, and Terry Parker; sisters, Patricia (Terrell) Robertson, Karen Parker, Paula Grandt, and Misty Portis; brothers, Charles Parker, Richard Parker, and Greg (Nicole) Parker; 15 grandchildren and numerous other family members and friends.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 9, 2016 from 6:00pm – 9:00pm at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, July 10, 2016 also at the funeral home. The Reverend Roger Gill will officiate. Burial will follow at John C. White Family cemetery of Providence in Providence Community.

Donations may be made in Dollie’s honor to Heart of Hospice or the DeRidder Junior Women’s League.

Russell Richmond

Russell Richmond, 39, of Merryville, Louisiana passed from this life on Wednesday, July 6 2016 in DeRidder, Louisiana.

Russell is survived by his wife, Lula Richmond; 2 sons, Colton Richmond and Logan Richmond; daughter, Anrhea Richmond; father, Bo Richmond; Brother, John Richmond; sister, Shawn Richmond and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carol Smith.

Visitation will be held Friday, July 8, 2016 from 4:00 pm -7:00 pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder. A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 pm also Friday at the funeral home.

ROBERT LEE 'COACH' McCOY

Proverbs 3:5-6

Robert Lee “Coach” McCoy was born November 28, 1934 to the late Johnny McCoy and Orelia Porter in Longville, LA. He was a 1953 graduate of the Beauregard Parish Training School. Following graduation he furthered his education at Grambling State University where he graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. An outstanding athlete who loved basketball, he broke many high school and college records. He began a professional basketball career with the Detroit Pistons in the position of forward, and also served in the U.S. Army. In 1959 he married the late Ruby Williams and to this union two children were born, Rhonda and Reuben.
After returning to DeRidder in 1958, he began his teaching and coaching career at George Washington Carver from 1958 to 1970 where he led his teams to many victories and state finals. He also taught and coached at DeRidder High School and in Calcasieu Parish for a number of years. Several of his players pursued successful careers in professional basketball and coaching. Known by many as coach, he spent several years serving the community as the Manager of the North side Pool. His love was basketball and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orelia and James Porter, and Johnny McCoy; and sister Jo Helen Riley. His living family legacy includes his wife Alberta; daughter Rhonda; sons Reuben (Grace), Richard Jackson (Joyce), Randy Archield; one brother, Donald McCoy ; three sisters, Jean Dillon , Carolyn Rigmaiden, and Johnny McCoy; and a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and close friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Sweet Home Baptist Church in DeRidder. Burial will follow at Community cemetery, also in DeRidder.

Anna Bell Simpson

Anna Bell Simpson,65, lived in Merryville, Louisiana for the last 35 years. She passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital after a lengthy and valiant battle with lung disease.

She was born on September 20, 1950 in Fort Knox, Kentucky to Earl Babin, Sr. and Violet Palmer Babin, now both deceased. Anna’s father, Earl, was in the Army and when his military service was completed the couple moved to Merryville with their ten children. Anna, had 3 brothers and 6 sisters: Louise Babin Baughn (Deceased), formerly of Jasper, AL; Earl Babin Jr., of Newton, TX; Linda Babin Phelps (Deceased), formerly of Merryville, LA; Betty Jean Babin O'Quain, of Merryville, LA; Betty Jane Babin Crain, of Livingston, TX; Margie Babin Nissen, of San Antonio, TX; William Earl Babin, of Pass Christian, MS; Richard Wayne Babin, of Columbus, OH and Sally Babin Walton, of Englewood, CO.

After Anna’s father passed away her mother, Violet, moved the family to Lake Charles, where Anna graduated from Lake Charles High School. After graduation she moved to Houston, Texas. While living in Houston, Anna married Melvin Simpson, now deceased. Together they had two children, Shawna Simpson Hudson of Merryville, LA and Erick Simpson, also deceased, formerly of Merryville, LA.

Anna was blessed with 5 grandchildren: Karly Simpson, Kalon Simpson, K'Lee Hudson, Erica Simpson & Steven Simpson.

Anna shared 15 happy years with her husband, James Linaweaver. James's family became additional family to Anna. His mother, Eloise Linaweaver, now deceased, and his Aunt Linda Newsom became dear friends and a comfort to her during her illness. In addition, James's brothers and sister welcomed Anna into the Linaweaver extended family.

Anna spent almost 30 years in the school system working in various lunch rooms in Beauregard Parish schools. At the time of her retirement, in 2015, she was manager of the Singer High School Cafeteria.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home, Inc. in DeRidder, LA from 4:00PM – 8:00PM. A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, July 7, 2016, also at the funeral home. The Rev. Jason Fortenberry will officiate. Burial will follow at Cooper cemetery in DeRidder, LA.

Samantha Johnson-Reder

January 4, 1988-June 23, 2016

Samantha Johnson-Reder, 28, of Leesville, LA, passed from this life on Thursday, June 23, 2016.

She was a devoted mother and sister, a cherished daughter, and truly loved by all who knew her. She was a very caring person as proved by her service for the last nine years as a certified nurse assistant.

Those left to cherish her memory: sons, Antonio O. Fells, Jr. and Destin Reder, Jr.; daughter, Toni A. Marie Fells; father, Vick L. Johnson; mother, Catina L. Fulton; brother, Michael F. Fulton. A host of step-sisters.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2016 from 9:00-11:00 am at New Hope CME in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 11:00 am at New Hope CME in DeRidder, LA.

David "Dave" Prescott

January 23, 1931-June 26, 2016

David “Dave” Earl Prescott, 85, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 in DeRidder, LA.Mr. Prescott spent 20 years in the Army. He was a Korean War and Vietnam War

Veteran. Mr. Prescott retired from the Army in 1976 and became a sign painter. The medals and honors he received during his service to our country were: Korea Service, Vietnam Service, U.N. Service, American Occupation – Japan, Expert Rifle, Expert Pistol, RVN Campaign, Good Conduct, Republic Vietnam Unit Citation, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, and Presidential Unit Citation. Mr. Prescott was a member of the American Legion Post 27 for 35 years and Past Commander for four years. He was a VFW Member for 20 + years. He was a DAV member and Korean War Veteran Association member. The grandchildren want to say, he was one “BA” Papa.

Those left to cherish his memory are: son, David Prescott, Jr. of Leesville, LA; daughter, Jennifer Prescott Hester & husband John Lee of DeRidder, LA; grandchildren, Cortney Cowley, Patrick Cowley, Tre Prescott, & Eva Prescott; great grandchildren, Caiden David Carlson; and soon to be great grandchildren, Azalee Grace Bertrand, Gracelyne Marie Cowley, and Jayson David Prescott. Mr. Prescott was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. John Prescott; wife, Edna Prescott; son, Richard Prescott; granddaughter, Brandi Cowley; and 13 siblings.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, July 1, 2016 at 11:00 AM at The American Legion Post 27 in DeRidder, LA.

Tommy Williams

December 31, 1963 - June 22, 2016

Tommy Williams, 52, of Rosepine, LA, passed from this life on Wednesday, June 22, 2016. Those left to cherish his memory are his mother: Maisy Williams of Rosepine, LA; brother: Tim Williams and wife Wendy of Wynne, AR; niece: Rihane Williams; grand nephews: Landon and Bentley Williams;

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 24, 2016 from 5:00 pm until time of service at 7:00 pm at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA.

Steve Coleman

Steve Coleman, 66 of Singer, LA, passed from this life on June 16, 2016.

Mr. Steve Coleman graduated from Shelby County High School in Shelbyville, KY and went on to achieve his degree in forestry and horticulture. Steve then went on to obtain his MBA from Tulane. Steve dedicated 27 years to Boise and was also a Forestry teacher for many years. He enjoyed spending time with the dogs he and his wife shared. Steve was a man of many talents and lived a life full of memories and will be truly missed.

Those left to cherish his memory are: his loving wife Elaine Embrey Coleman of Singer, LA; three step children and grandchildren; Brothers Dennis Coleman of Eminence, KY and Tony Coleman of Louisville, KY. Proceeded in death by his two brothers Jerry Coleman and Bill Coleman both of Kentucky; and his parents Wilton and Helen Coleman of Kentucky.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 19, 2016 from 5 PM TO 9 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA and Funeral Services will be at 10 AM, Monday, June 20, 2016 at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA.

Burial will follow at Whitaker cemetery in DeRidder, LA.
