Madlen Ashworth Naquin, 77, of DeQuincy, LA, passed from this life on Friday, July 22, 2016. Funeral service will be held Sunday, July 24, 2016 at 4:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow at Beauregard cemetery in DeRidder, LA

LUCY ANN CHARLES
Lucy Ann Charles, 91, of DeRidder passed from this life on July 14, 2016.

She is survived by 3 Sons, Darrell Edward Jackson and wife Elizabeth of Chula Vista, CA, Cedric Dale Charles of DeRidder and Donnie Charles of San Diego; 3 daughters, Bertha Baker and husband Reginal Baker of DeRidder, Linda Davis of DeRidder and Reva Ann Charles and husband Wendell of DeRidder; 23 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.

Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Charles; brothers, Chauffer Jackson, Robert Jackson, L.C. Jackson and Fred Jackson; sisters, Ollie Bea Jackson, Willie May Jackson, and Catherine Jackson as well as her parents, Ruffin & Alice Jackson.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 23, 2016 from 9:00 am - 11:00 am at Star of Bethlehem Church in DeRidder. Funeral services will be held immediately following visitation at 11:00 am also at the church, Saturday, July 23, 2016. The Reverend Ewell Archield will officiate. Burial Services will be held at Beauregard cemetery in DeRidder.

EDDIE RUTH WEST

Eddie Ruth West of Platte City, MO, formerly of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Friday, July 15, 2016.

Eddie Ruth was the youngest of 9 children and grew up in the East Texas area. Her family eventually ended up in Houston, TX where she graduated from high school. She met the love of her life there as well, and married in 1949.

In 1953, the couple would welcome their first child while living in Austin, TX. In 1956, while pregnant with their second child, the couple moved to DeRidder, LA, in order to be closer to family. Mrs. West enjoyed entertaining friends and neighbors and always had a pot of coffee and a slice of cake for all who visited. She was a member of Pine Ridge Baptist church in DeRidder, LA.

Her hobbies included reading, sewing and cooking. She spent hours searching for new recipes and also enjoyed gardening with her husband. Later in life, she loved spending time with her 4 granddaughters, and cherished creating special memories. They recall sitting around the table laughing, snapping beans, shelling pecans, and cooking up tasty treats. Eddie Ruth was also blessed with 3 great granddaughters and continued to share her love and life lessons with them. Eddie Ruth was a kind and generous lady who loved her family and friends dearly, and truly enjoyed spending as much time as possible with all of them. She will be greatly missed by all.

Mrs. Eddie Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Berry W. West; her parents, Jeff and Alma Corine Woolsey; her sisters, Pauline Ray, Ruby Griffin, Juanita Tryon; her brothers, Bert Gaskamp, Joe Gaskamp, Kenneth Gaskamp, Ed Woolsey and Hill Woolsey.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Annawynne Rozell and husband Grant of Chandler, TX, Evangeline Hicks and husband Kirk of Platte City, MO; granddaughters: Heather Icenogle, Angela Roberts, Amy Maggard, Laurie Rozell; great granddaughters: Destinee Roberts, Eleanor Ruth and Roslyn Maggard; and her faithful 4-legged companion, Bella.

The family wishes to express a very special, heartfelt thank you to her wonderful caregivers: Joyce Edwards, Maria Aguilar, and Ruby Holder.

Also the family sincerely request, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214 or to the charity of your choice.

Visitation will be on Monday, July 18, 2016 from 9:30 A.M. until the time of her service at 11:00 A.M., both held at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, La. Reverend Hershall Davis will be officiating. Burial will follow at Cooper cemetery.

JUDY RAE SIMPSON

Judy Rae Simpson, 73, of DeRidder, Louisiana passed from this life on Saturday, July 16, 2016 in Lake Charles.

Judy was a devoted mother to her children. She loved her pets and doted on them. Judy was domestically gifted and enjoyed needlework, crochet, drawing and cooking. She was creative and artistic and passed that ability to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Judy is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, Willie Simpson of DeRidder. Together they had three children, daughters, Charol Simpson of DeRidder; Sharon Bailey and husband Dennis of DeRidder, and son, Bill Simpson (now deceased). She will be remembered lovingly by her grandchildren, Billy Joe Reed of Baytown, Texas and Amanda Young of Midland, Texas and her great grandchildren, Kyler Reed, Shelby Reed, Mika Young, Abbigail Young, Ceili Reed & Makaylah Reed will hear stories of their Great Grandmother.

Judy is also survived by a sister in law, Freida Snapp of DeRidder; nephew, Dewayne D. Bailey; nieces, Monica Vernier and Andrea Sasser; aunts, Jackie Denmark and Ester Evans and families all of Roseburg, Oregon.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 10:00 am at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Rev. Jason Hoychick will officiate. Burial Services will follow at Old Cypress cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Pall Bearers will be Sam Jones, Carlos Stewert, Kody Young, Pierre Hebert, Dewayne D. Bailey, Marvin Dewayne Bailey, Johnny Vernier, Todd Sasser, Benjamin Vernier, Caleb Vernier & Wyett Sasser.

Ronnie Black

Ronnie Black, 72, of DeRidder, LA passed away on January 28, 2017. Ronnie was born in DeRidder on April 23, 1944 to the late Ivan E. and Willie Mae Black. He graduated from DeRidder High School in 1962. After graduating from McNeese State, he served in the US Army. He was a teacher at Morgan City High School for 25 years. Upon retirement, he moved back to DeRidder to be close to family. Ronnie is survived by his two brothers, Earl R.(Joy) Black, and James G. Black; 3 nephews; 4 great nieces; and 3 great nephews. He was loved by his family and friends and will forever be in our hearts. Viewing will be held from 9:00 -10:00 a.m. followed by funeral service on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Myers Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hopewell cemetery.

Benny Goodwin

Benny Joe Goodwin, 72, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Saturday, January 28, 2017. Services were under the direction of Myers Colonial Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 2PM at Beauregard cemetery in DeRidder, LA

(Blanche) Louise Cooley, 82, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Saturday, January 28, 2017.
Louise Cooley leaves behind her husband of 68 years, Bennie Monk (CL) Cooley of DeRidder, LA; sons, Gene Cooley (Louise) of Rosepine, LA, Richard Cooley (Jan-Ann) of Sugartown, LA, Ronald Cooley of DeRidder, LA and Roger Dale Cooley (Sissy) of DeRidder, LA; daughters, Dorothy Ebare of DeRidder, LA, Peggy Prince (Ray) of Tyler, TX and Kathy Farris (Wayne) of DeRidder, LA; Thirty three grandchildren, Sixty five great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rene (Frenchie) Guillory, sons, Micheal D. Cooley and Gerald Dale Cooley, daughter, Sandra Pierce and brother, Richard Guillory.
Mrs. Cooley was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She loved her family very much, they were her life. Her husband was truly the “apple of her eye”. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA, from 5-9 PM. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 2 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Whitaker cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Bro. William Hughes and Bro. Glenn Anderson will officiate.

Services are under the direction of Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder.

Adelia Ann Cottrell
Adelia Ann Cottrell, 71, of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 25, 2017.
Those left to cherish her memory: sisters, Lorraine LaSage and Lorretta Keitla; brothers, Ronald Cottrell and John Cottrell.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA

Marvin Isaac Marshall, Sr., 67, of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 24, 2017.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2017 from 5:00-9:00 pm at Bethel Grove UPC in Merryville, LA. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 27, 2017 at 10:00 am also at Bethel Grove UPC in Merryville, LA.

George Richard Reiher

George Richard Reiher, 67, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Saturday, January 21, 2017.

Those left to cherish her memory: step-son, Michael Leger of Starks, LA; step-daughters, Cynthia Lewandowski of Longmount, CO and Sherry Tarver & Gordon of Hineston, LA. A host of Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at 1:00 PM, Monday, January 23, 2017 at the John T. White cemetery in Rosepine, LA.
