Leroy Joseph Miller

Leroy Joseph Miller, 85, of Dequincy, LA, passed from this life on Monday, October 30, 2017.

Leroy graduated from Pecan Island High School in 1951. He worked as a Dragline Operator for Dr. MO Miller. He served his country in the United States Navy on the USS Manchester and was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Transco in Ragley, LA after 35 years of service. He owned and operated Leroy’s Saddle Shop, where he made saddles, whips and spurs. He was a member of the VFW Post 179, Louisiana Volunteers, American Legion and the USO. In 1952 he married Lina Hebert, and on May 11, 1917, they celebrated 65 years of marriage.

Those left to cherish his memory are his spouse of 65 years, Lina Miller of Ragley, LA; son, Pete Miller and wife Randy of Ragley, LA; daughter, Raenell Savell and husband Michael of Ragley, LA. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, six great- great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

The family would like to thank Southern Home Health, Dr. Joudeh, Dr. Ewane and Harbor Hospice for the care given and kindness shown to Mr. Miller.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Ignace and Edolia Miller and Roy and Beulah Hebert; brothers, Stabra and Ibra Miller; brother-in-law, John Hebert.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, November 2, 2017 also at Myers Colonial Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at Magnolia cemetery in Ragley, LA.

Tom Dale Bennett

Tom Dale Bennett, 76, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Saturday, October, 28, 2017.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Tommy Dale Bennett, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL, Chad Hollie of Scott, LA and Brandon Hollie of Lake Charles, LA; daughters, Jessica Ann Hollie of DeRidder, LA, Sheryl D. Myers of Iowa, LA, Annette Hollie of San Antonio, TX and Julie Bushnell of DeQuincy, LA; brother, Royce Bennett of Oberlin, LA; 20 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Carrie Bennett and his son, Clint Bennett.

Brent Lee Fletcher

Brent Lee Fletcher, 26, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Saturday, October 28, 2017.

Brent loved to fish and be outdoors, as well as talking and visiting with his friends.

Those left to cherish his memory are his maternal grandmother, Judy Deason of DeRidder, LA; paternal grandmother, Betty Fletcher of Rosepine, LA; uncle, Eric Deason of DeRidder, LA and a host of other family and friends.

Preceding him in death are his mother, Sabrina Deason; maternal grandpa, Bobby R. Deason; brother, Dean Fletcher, Jr.; paternal grandfather, Earl Fletcher.

A graveside service was held at 3:00 PM, on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Blue Branch cemetery in Pitkin, LA.

Bessie Lea Jarrell Jeane

Bessie Lea Jarrell Jeane of Evans, Louisiana was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 27, 2017 at the age of 81. Bessie Lea was the heart of the family business and the driving force behind Jeane Farms. She and her husband, Claude were married for 58 years.

She was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association as well as the Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association. She and her husband Claude were the first members inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Bessie Lea loved her family. She adored her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She chose to live a very modest lifestyle. Bessie Lea held close the things she considered dear. It warmed her heart to see her home full of children, her pond full of fish, race horses in the barn and mares in the pasture. She enjoyed drinking coffee with her boys and devoted husband after a hard day’s work, but most of all she enjoyed bouncing her babies on her knee, stealing their sugar. Bessie Lea was a member of Evans Congregational Methodist Church, where she supported her husband in all his endeavors.

Bessie Lea is survived by her sons Randle Jeane and wife Tracy, Scott Jeane and wife Tamaris and Sam Jeane; daughters, Teresa Burgess and husband C.A. and Marilyn Smith and husband Jeff; grandchildren, Randy Jeane, Darrell Jeane, Emily Jeane, Scotty Jeane, Madison Jeane, Preston Jeane, Cody Bordelon, Chester Burgess, Gregory Loftin, McKenna Loftin, Ashlynn Smith, Jake Smith; great-grandchildren, Isabella Jeane, Matilda Jeane, Reese Jeane, Griffin Jeane, Warren Jeane, Sawyer Jeane, Logan Bordelon, Lucas Bordelon, Ryan Bordelon, Marcus Bordelon, Gauge Bordelon, Sophia Loftin, Nolen Loftin, and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Claude Jeane; son, Jerry Lynn Jeane; grandson, Bobby Bordelon; sisters, Daisy Pierce and Lucille Jeane; brothers, Ardon Jarrell and Wayne Jarrell.

Visitation was held Tuesday, October 31, 2017 from 5:00 – 9:00 PM at Evans Congregational Methodist Church in Evans, LA. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 also at the church. Burial will follow in Evans cemetery, in Evans, Louisiana.

Joyce Alline Taylor Morrison

Joyce Alline Taylor Morrison, 71, of Anacoco, LA, passed from this life on October 26, 2017.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Robert Free and Charlotte of Pitkin, LA, Wayman Free and Mafie of DeRidder, LA, Erby Free and Dana of Anacoco, LA; daughter, Evelyn Ashworth of Merryville, LA; brother, James Allen Taylor and Bonnie of Kirbyville, TX; sisters, Ruth Largent of Center, TX, Carrie Nell Guthrie of Cleveland, TX, Loyce Irene Weeks and Alford of Colmesneil, TX, Edith Elaine Kenny and Glenn of Colmesneil, TX; thirty-one grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends and eleven step children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Rosie Taylor; sons: Eugene O’Neal Free, Billy Lee Free; daughters: Rosie Mae Lochart, Norma Jean Buell; brothers: Roy Taylor, Robert Taylor, Marty Taylor, Henry Taylor; sisters: Jonnie Mae Bodin and Rosemary Taylor.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 30, 2017 from 4:00PM-9:00PM at Gospel Lighthouse, in DeRidder, LA. Funeral service will be on Tuesday at 10:00 AM, October 31, 2017 also at Gospel Lighthouse. Brother Bill Russell will officiate. Burial will follow at Newlin cemetery in Singer, LA.

William (Billy) Ford

William (Billy) Ford, 69, of Sugartown, LA, passed from this life on Thursday, October 26, 2017.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sandra Shuff Ford of Sugartown, LA; sons, Jesse Ford of Sugartown, LA and Lonnie Duplechian of Oberlin, LA; daughter; Laura Duplechian of Alexandria, LA; brothers, Harley G. Ford of Sugartown, LA and John W. Ford and Sally of Sugartown, LA; grandchildren, Haley Nicole Ford, Caleb William Ford, Brad Paul Duplechian and April Renee` Duplechian; a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends; and his little four-legged friend-Squirt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James & Veta Ford; brothers, Don Ford and James Ford; sisters, Marie Starr and Jean Ford.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 4:00 – 9:00 PM at Shiloh Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM, Sunday, October 29, 2017 also, at Shiloh Baptist Church. Pastor Tim Lee will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jason Ford, Johnny Ford, Kenneth Terrell, Daniel Harvey, Billy Ray Weeks and Casey Reeves. Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Duplechian and Caleb Ford. Burial will follow at Shiloh cemetery in DeRidder, LA.

Amon Dowden, Jr.

Amon Dowden, Jr. was born in Kisatchie, LA on September 27, 1934, the son of Amon and Effie Dowden. Junior was welcomed at the gates of heaven with a glorious ethereal roar on the morning of October 22, 2017 at 7:30 AM at the age of 83 years young.

He was, and will always be a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, cherished friend, true companion and man of God.

He spent his childhood as a boy full of spirit and life. He met the love of his life, Barbara at Kisatchie High School and gladly walked 7 miles each day to see her, hunting along the way.
Barbara and Junior were married on June 3, 1955 and shared 62 years together.

Junior joined the United States Army in 1957. His service to our country moved the young newlyweds to several cities before they returned back to Louisiana to start a family and call home.

Junior worked as a Journeyman-Wireman Electrician with IBEW Local # 861 for over 50 years.

He had numerous passions – deer hunting, squirrel hunting, fishing, playing his guitar, listening to bluegrass, chewing cotton boll and enjoying country life. He made the most of farm life including planting a garden, riding his tractor, tending to the cows and gathering eggs each day up until the end.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Effie and Amon Dowden, sister Laverne Cormie Craft and children Russell and Christine Dowden.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Dowden and his daughter, Janet L’Hoste and husband Stephen L’Hoste, along with his grandchildren Jessica L’Hoste Williamson and husband Brian, Michael L’Hoste and Amy L’Hoste, and one great granddaughter, Natalie L’Hoste.

The family of Amon Dowden, Jr. would like to generously express their deepest appreciation to each and every person who crossed Junior’s path and was a part of his life. Thank you all for your kind prayers, thoughts and deeds. All of you are a great comfort and joy at this time.

Visitation will be held today, Friday, October 27th, at First Baptist Church of Gillis, LA from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and on Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 9:00 AM until time of service. His service will be held on Saturday, October 28th at First Baptist Church of Gillis beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at the New Kisatchie cemetery after the service at 3:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Kisatchie cemetery Association, 830 Hwy 118, Provencal, LA 71468 in honor of Amon Dowden, Jr.

John E. Dobson

John E. Dobson passed from this life on Friday, October 20, 2017. He was born to Eddie and Iona Dobson in Seabrook, Texas on May 23, 1936.

After high school he joined the U.S. Army and became a paratrooper, where he spent the next 21 years.

He and his wife Emma Dobson owned and operated Mother Goose Day Care for 20 years.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years Emma (Jean) Dobson of DeRidder, LA; two sons, John R. and wife Marilyn and Zane (Tony) and wife Martha both of Deridder, LA

Visitation will be Friday, October 27, 2017 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Grace Church in DeRidder, LA. Service will be held Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 1:00 PM, also at Grace Church. Interment will be at Shiloh cemetery in Kipling LA. Pastor George Lee Glass and Bro. Jimmy Glass will officiate.
