Joseph Watts
February 7, 1952 - April 5, 2016
Joseph Christopher Watts, Sr. was born February 7, 1952, to the union of Dudley Cole Watts, Sr. and Thelma White Watts, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
He grew up in Abita Springs, Louisiana. He attended Abita Elementary School and graduated from Pine View High School where he was a member of the band. He attended New Hope Baptist Church. Later he moved to Los Angeles, California where he had his own dry cleaning business.
Joseph moved back to Louisiana in 2008 and was residing in DeRidder at the time of his death. He worked in the dry cleaning business at Service Cleaners and was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church.
Joseph was a very caring person and loved people. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and visiting family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dudley Cole Watts, Sr. and Thelma White Watts; one brother, Dudley Cole Watts, Jr. and three sisters, Melvina Myers, Barbra Badon and Georgia Raney.
He leaves to cherish his memories: one son, Joseph Christopher Watts Jr.; one daughter, Shadonna Weeks; two grandchildren, Knoble Watts and Justice Watts; two brothers, Rev. Toye (Lynda) Watts of DeRidder, LA and Rev. Leonard (Augustine) Watts, Sr. of Lumberton, MS; seven sisters, Delorse Buckley of DeRidder, LA, Gabriella Prim of Hammond, LA, Christine (Tommie) White of Sulphur, LA, Marcia Watts of Abita Springs, LA, Amelia Watts of Covington, LA, Gwendolyne (Rev. Donald) Chavis of Moss Bluff, LA and Terry Richardson of Clarksville, TN; Special friends, Galo Tugaga and Pete Mirante. A host of relatives and friends.
Visitation and funeral service will be held Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in DeRidder. Visitation will begin at 10:00am until time of service at 4:00pm. Rev. Jackie McLain will officiate.
Robert A. Welborn
August 2, 1929 - April 5, 2016
Robert A. “Bob” Welborn, of DeRidder, Louisiana received that which he had faithfully pursued, stepping into the city “whose builder and maker is God”, Tuesday, April 5, 2016. He was a man of honor, setting standards of character, integrity and honesty, that would challenge any that would observe. Bob was born into a pioneering family in Dry Creek, Louisiana on August 2, 1929. He was the second of three children and the son of Solomon J. “Tobe” Welborn and Lois Hanchey Welborn.
Bob attended DeRidder High School where he participated in athletics and served as team captain in both football and basketball. He graduated in 1947 and attended Northwestern State University.
Following his sense of patriotic duty, Bob joined the US Marine Corps in 1950 and was assigned to Parris Island, South Carolina and Brookland Navy Yard. He later served a two-year tour of duty at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba where he earned the rank of Sergeant, and thereafter in Quantico, Virginia. Bob was honorably discharged in 1953 after serving 3 years and was recognized with the National Defense Service Award.
After returning to DeRidder, Bob worked for BECI as a lineman. In September 1954, Bob met and married
the love of his life, Jodell Anderson and they began a journey together that saw many life accomplishments. The most valuable being their family and their devotion to the word of God. Soon after they married
, Bob began R.A. Welborn, Inc. which was the first company in Beauregard Parish to specialize in re-clearing right-of-way for utility companies. The company also provided services in land clearing and pond building. After 32 years in business, Bob’s son, Kraig, purchased the business and continues his father’s legacy today as Welborn Tree Service, Inc.
Upon retiring from R.A. Welborn, Inc., Bob began a retirement career with the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Department for the next 15 years, retiring a second time at the age of 80.
Bob contributed to the stability and growth of Beauregard Parish through his volunteerism and leadership. He was the first Beauregard Public Works Director, was elected Ward #3 School Board Member in 1974, and served on the South Beauregard Water District where he was President of the Board.
For the past 60 years, Bob and Jodell served in many varied ministries ranging from teaching individuals bible studies in their home to educational classes at their local church. During this time, Bob held the positions of Director and Vice President on the church board of directors, was a member of the church Trustee Board and as a current member and Elder of Grace Church of Deridder and served as Coordinator of the Adult Education Department.
Bob’s commitment to bible study and teaching led him to be well versed in theology, traditions, and texts. Because of his understanding of the Bible, he was a much sought after resource for many students of the Word until his passing.
Family members who preceded Bob in death are his parents, Solomon James and Lois Hanchey Welborn; brother, William “Bill” Welborn; and sister, Frankie Welborn Rudd. Bob was preceded in death by his wife 40 days prior on February 25, 2016. Those remaining to honor his legacy include his daughter, Karen Glass (George Lee); son, Kraig Welborn (Karlie); grandchildren, Dana Welborn, Steven Ross (Jessica), Kari Welborn Midgett (Kenneth) and Lee Glass; great grandchildren, Gabriella, Noah, Mia, Khi, Arielle, Karaline, and Farrah.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 7, 2016 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Grace Church in DeRidder, Louisiana. Funeral services will be Friday, April 8, 2016 at 11:00am at Grace Church. Burial will follow at Hopewell cemetery in DeRidder, Louisiana. Rev. George Lee Glass and Rev. Jimmy Glass will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace Helping Hands (Senior Food Ministry) or to a ministry of your personal choice. April 5, 2016.

October 23, 1970 - April 3, 2016
Trishia Skinner, 45, of DeRidder, LA passed from this life on Sunday, April 3, 2016. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Richard Skinner of DeRidder, LA; sons, Nicholas Skinner of Lake Charles, LA, and Domenic Skinner and wife Amy of DeRidder, LA; daughter, Hannah Skinner of New Orleans, LA; father, Ray Trunick of Lake Charles, LA; brother, Ted Trunick and wife Kimberly of Lake Charles, LA. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Chelsea Skinner; and mother, Patricia Trunick.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 6, 2016 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm with a Rosary at 7:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral service will be held Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 11:00am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow at Beauregard cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Father Jude Brunnert will officiate.
James McClendon
October 1, 1963 - April 2, 2016
James McClendon, 52, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Saturday, April 2, 2016 in Alexandria, LA. Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Audrey C. Ford (Travis), Ne’chelle A. McClendon-Johnson (Ira), and Chelsea D. McClendon all of Texas City, TX; brothers and sisters, Lee Vester McClendon, Ronnie E. McClendon (Mary), Gregory A. McClendon, Sr., Theron T. McClendon, Charlene T. Johnson (Eric), and Karol L. McClendon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank A. and Lucille McClendon and brother, Larry W. Gamble.

Betty Jo Franks Giles

Betty Jo Franks Giles, 83, of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on Saturday, April 2, 2016 in Lake Charles, LA. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Debra LeGault of Albuquerque, NM, and Diana Bacque of Edmondton, KY; brothers, Walter and Bruce of Merryville, LA; sisters, Alma of Merryville, LA and Lucy of DeRidder, LA; grandchildren, Diana Martinez and husband Damion of Jacksonville, FL, Jordan Enger and wife Amanda of Houston, TX, Jared Enger and wife Casandra of Katy, TX, and Phillippe LeGault of Albuquerque, NM; 4 great grandchildren; and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, John Giles, and Hugh Brotherton.

Norman Craig Sr.

Norman Ross Craig Sr., 50, of Houston, TX, passed from this life on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Lynden B. Johnson Hospital in Houston, TX. He was born July 4, 1965 to Naomi Craig and the late Earl James Craig, Sr., in DeRidder, LA. He was the sixth of seven children.
Norman was preceded in death by his father, Earl James Craig, Sr. two brothers, Lonnie R. Craig and Earl James Craig, Jr. Left to cherish his loving memories are his mother, Naomi Craig of Knights, Louisiana, two daughters, Isma Talley of Waxachachie, TX, Hannah Craig of Houston, TX; two sons, Norman Ross Craig, Jr. (Randi) of Fort Knox, Kentucky, Raymond Craig of Houston, Texas; fiancee', Tiffany Forward of Houston, TX; three grandchildren, Khloe Lewis, Valencia Craig and Shayla Craig all of Fort Knox, Kentucky; two sisters, Patricia Craig and LaCrisha Jeff of DeRidder, LA; two brothers, Jimmy Craig of DeRidder, LA, Darrell Craig of Shreveport, LA; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, extended family and friends.

Alva Rae Fletcher Thompson
February 27, 1924 - March 13, 2016
Alva Rae Fletcher Thompson passed from this life Sunday, March 13, 2016 with both of her daughters and son in law, Cole by her side. Mrs. Thompson was born February 27, 1924, in Rosepine, LA, to Alvin and Annie Fletcher. Mrs. Thompson worked for the Federal Government at Fort Polk in the in and out processing department. Whilst working there for over 25 years, Mrs. Thompson showed great kindness to young soldiers away from their families. She retired in 1977. Mrs. Thompson had a large heart for missionaries. She loved supporting the great work of God and befriended several missionaries, which included the E.L. & Nona Freeman Family. She wrote a book about the history of the Rosepine First United Pentecostal Church where she was a member. Her survivors include her daughters, Alicia Walker & husband Buddy of Abbeville, LA, Renita Weeks & husband Cole of Rosepine, LA; grandchildren, Nathan Glenn Walker & wife Miranda, Jordan Stanley & husband Ryan; great grandchildren, Kaden Thomas Roy Walker, MacKenzie Alayne Morace, Abigail Paige Morace, Mathis Glenn Walker, Ryan Kade Stanley, Madison Claire Stanley; her extended “family in love” Michael Richard & daughters Aimee and Jeanette; dear friends and caregivers, Gayle Elliott, Judy George, & Nancy Smith. Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, Aubrey Lee & Alden Fletcher, and her husband of over 51 years, Roy L. Thompson. Visitation will be held Monday, March 14, 2016 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at 11:00am at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. A private family burial will be held at a later time at the Rosepine cemetery in Rosepine, LA. Rev. Gary Bankson and Rev. Cole Weeks will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rosepine United Pentecostal Church building fund.

James Moore
July 26, 1925 - March 9, 2016
James William Moore (Bill), 90, of Merryville, LA, passed away March 9, 2016. Bill served in the Army Air Corp during WW2 as an airplane mechanic. He left his home, Simpson, LA, and traveled to Decatur, IL where he joined the U.S. government agency Signal Depot as an electrician. He is one of the developers of our current radar technology. He retired from the government and returned to his final home, his farm in Merryville.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Buddy and Annie; his brothers, Edmond, Henry, Tom, Johnnie, Jim, and David; and his grandchildren, Scott, Nick, and Ananya. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Frances; his brother, Frank; and sister, Dorothy; sons, Jimmy and wife Gaylyn, Larry, Terry and wife Sharon, Jeff and wife Dana; daughter, Diane and husband Jerry Don; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren. The family gives sincere thanks to the caregiver at Hospice of Leesville.
