Whittington and wife Kim of St. Augustine, FL; daughters, Johnna Williams and husband Hank of DeRidder, LA and Brenda Whittington of DeRidder, LA; 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Whittington.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, July 26, 2015 at 10:00am at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow at Beauregard cemetery. Bro. Jerry Day will officiate.

Shooter Saylor-Pickett

Shooter Bryce Saylor-Pickett, infant son of Alicia Pickett and Jeffrey Saylor, passed from this life on July 21, 2015.

A graveside service will be held Monday, July 27, 2015 at 11:00am at Old Cypress cemetery in DeRidder.

Jack Hammond
September 4, 1934 - July 19, 2015

Jack Hammond, 80, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Sunday, July 19, 2015. Jack was born in Merryville, LA. He graduated from Merryville High School and studied at McNeese State University. He served in the U.S. Army (Korean War) and was also a welder/pipefitter.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Scott and Brian Hammond; daughters, Diana Mathis and Lila Hardin; brothers, Lars Hammond and Charles Hammond; grandchildren, Tiffany, Sharlee, Emily Abigail, Sydney, Caydence, Bryce, Bralynn, Autumn, Nicholas, Jade, Kristin, Mathew, and Michael; and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Ethel Hayes; son, Danny Hammond; brothers, Jerry, Billy and Robert Hammond; sisters, Marion Smith and Edith West.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 10:00am at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow at Merryville cemetery in Merryville, LA.

Frank Rushing
December 16, 1942 - July 19, 2015
Frank Rushing, 71, of DeRidder, LA passed from this life on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at his home. Frank was the former owner of Rushing Auto Center and Tire Barn. He was also retired military and retired civil service.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Rushing; daughters, Shelia Ann Burk and husband Jessie of DeRidder, Sabrina Causey and husband Cliff of Joaquin, TX, and Serina Rushing of Deridder; sisters, Ollie Jean Wallace of Brandon, MS, Sandra Chapman and Dora Gravitt both of MS; grandchildren, Alexander Goodman, Treasure Burk, Cody Causey, Victoria Rushing, Morgan Burk, and Kyleigh Rushing; great grandchildren, Haylie Goodman and Amara Ozsoy; and his pets, Harley Faye, Baby, and Miss Wiggles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie and Vera Rushing; brothers, Roland and Robert; and sister, Mattie.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2015 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at 10:00am at Old Cypress cemetery in DeRidder. Rev. Steve Rackley will officiate.

Dean Horsley
August 15, 1955 - July 18, 2015
Dean Alan Horsley, 59, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Saturday, July 18, 2015. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Amy Delaney & husband Todd of Baton Rouge, LA, Alison Primeaux of Ragley, LA; brothers, Larry Horsley of DeRidder, LA, Merle Horsley & wife Vickie of Rosepine, LA; grandson, Parker Delaney; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren & Gladys Horsley; brother, David Horsley; sister, Carol Ladner.

Visitation will be held Monday, July 20, 2015 at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Visitation will be from 5:00pm until 9:00pm. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 10:00am at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow at Rosepine cemetery in Rosepine, LA. Rev. Kennis Smith will officiate.

Wendell Smith
July 12, 1951 - July 13, 2015
Wendell Smith, 64, of Cottonwood, LA, passed from this life on Monday, July 13, 2015 at his home. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Smith of Cottonwood, LA; sons, Kendell Smith and wife Regina, and Kerry Smith and wife Lori all of Cottonwood, LA; daughters, Jessica Roberts and husband Jeremy of Rosepine, LA, and Roxie Olivas and husband James of Cottonwood, LA; sister, Sheldia Lea LeFeat of Cottonwood, LA; grandchildren, Klayton Smith, Reagan Smith, Hunter Smith, Joshua Roberts, Bryce Roberts, Maison Roberts, Kolbye Roberts, Analeigh Roberts, James David Olivas, Isabella Willis, Chayton Olivas, Elyanna Olivas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, IdaBelle and Aubrey Lee Smith; brother, Wilford Lee “Pete” Smith.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 14, 2015 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm and Wednesday, July 15, 2015 from 10:00am until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral service is Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 10:00am at Evans High School in Evans, LA. Burial will follow at Ollieville cemetery in Cottonwood, LA. Rev. Ed Tilley and Dr. Thomas Dobbins will officiate.

Alton "Al" Bennett Sr.
August 30, 1945 - December 28, 2015
Alton “Al” Julian Bennett, Sr., 70, of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on Monday, December 28, 2015 at his home. Mr. Bennett served in the Army from 1963 to 1983 in 17 different countries. He retired from Phelps Correctional Center in 2009.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Beverly Bennett of Merryville; daughters, Paula Bennett of Kailua, HI, and Debra Benfield and husband James of Merryville, LA; son, Alton “A.J.” Bennett, Jr. and wife Marisol; daughters, Heather Hulsey and husband Richard of Calhoun, GA, Hollie Freeman and wife Sandy of Ellijay, GA, and Nicole Perkins of Merryville, LA; sons, Herbie Perkins and wife Stephanie of Woodstock, GA, and Christopher Franklin of Lake Charles, LA; mother, Merle Bumgardner of DeSoto, TX; brothers, Tony Bennett of Texas, and Allen Bennett of Cedar Hills, TX; sister, Stephanie Martin of TX; grandchildren, Sean and Josh Benfield, Kekoa Bennett-Pittman, Pete Bennett, Jullian Bearden, Callie Perkins, Tanner Holloway, Kaleigh and Creed Hulsey, Issac Coley, Kameron and Maddy Phillips, and Arianna Perkins; great grandson, Grayson Bearden.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2015 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA and Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Green Oak Baptist Church in Merryville beginning at 10:00am until time of Funeral service at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at Merryville cemetery. Bro. Derrick Addison and Bro. Ben Derrick will officiate.

Wallace Wagner
April 20, 1929 - January 27, 2016
Wallace Lawrence Wagner, Sr., 86, of Florien, LA passed away peacefully at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center on January 27, 2016. He was born April 20, 1929 in Alexandria, LA to Wallace William and Anna Lawrence Wagner. The oldest of six children, he graduated from Holy Savior Menard High School in 1947. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George, Richard, and Charles. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nina Webb Wagner; sons, Wallace Jr., Christopher L., and Patrick W. Wagner; grandchildren, Wallace III “Trey”, Michael, and Bailie Wagner, and Logan Wyatt. He also adored his four great grandchildren, Addisyn A., Wallace IV” Tyce”, Zayd A., and Ezryi J. Wagner. Also missing Wallace are his surviving brother, H. Rand Wagner; and his sister, Bella Higdon.

Lawrence, as he was known to his family, and Shag, to his friends, was a kind, gentle, strong man that was respected for his quiet grace. He was a loving doting father and will be deeply missed. Many kids grow up thinking their father is Superman, the Wagner sons were blessed to have known he was Superman. He loved golf and thoroughly enjoyed living on the golf course. He loved cheering for his favorite teams, LSU and McNeese in the collegiate ranks and the Saints in the professional. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1949-1952.

He retired from 25 years of employment security for the State of Louisiana and 10 years for JTPA in Vernon and Beauregard Parishes. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Alzheimer’s research.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 31, 2016 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral Service will be Monday, February 1, 2016 at 10:00am at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Alexandria Memorial Gardens in Alexandria, LA.

Alfreda Hollie
May 1, 1969 - January 26, 2016
Alfreda Victoria Jones Hollie, 46, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 26, 2016. She was born in DeRidder, LA to the late Frank Jones, Jr. and Jearldine Fisher Jones on May 1, 1969. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Marvin Hollie; son, Darrius Hollie; daughters, Shareka Nicole Jones, and Kierra Michelle Jones; brothers, Kirk Douglas Jones, Joel Nathaniel jones, Frank Jones, Jr. III, and Alvin Dion Jones; sisters, Lillie Marie Jefferson, Patricia Ann Thomas, Cynthia Annette Jones, and Sylvia Lee Garner; a host of nieces and nephews and great nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents; and grandson, Nicholas Devante Myers.

Visitation and Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Sunrise Missionary Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA. Visitation will begin at 9:00am until Funeral service at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Newlin cemetery in Singer, LA. Rev. Alvin Peters, Sr. will officiate.

Lillie Mae Wilson
December 2, 1940 - January 22, 2016
Lillie Mae Wilson, 75, of DeRidder, LA passed from this life on Friday, January 22, 2016 in Lake Charles, LA. Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Steven Russ Wilson of DeRidder, LA, Gregory Keith Wilson of Florien, LA, Mark Allen Wilson & wife Tammy Renee’ of Florien, LA; daughter, Karen Lane Kite & husband Blayne of DeRidder, LA; brothers, Odell Burnett of Oretta, LA, J.P. Burnett of Oretta, LA; sisters, Doris Raby of DeQuincy, LA, Thelma Stokes of Brunswick, GA; grandchildren, Christal Berlin & husband Greg, Duane Jeane & wife Amanda, Steven Wilson, Kyle Wilson, Samantha Wilson, Jayson Hiatt, Trisha Kite; 6 great-grandchildren; father of her children, William Wayne Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, January 25, 2016 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA and again on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 from 12:00pm until time of service at New Life Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA. Funeral service will be Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at 2:00pm at New Life Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow at Good Hope cemetery in Singer, LA. Bro. Lynn Clayton will officiate.

Joy Hudson
March 13, 1926 - January 21, 2016

Joy Ann Nichols, 89, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Thursday, January 21, 2016.
Joy was born on March 13, 1926 to Thomas Lee Nichols and James "Jimmie" Ellen Mainer Nichols. Six siblings have preceded her in death- Lee Mainer Nichols, Floye Nichols Herrington, James Wallace Nichols, Mary Lois Nichols Dameron, Helen Nichols Green, and Alice Nichols Cunningham. Her sister, Mae Nichols Presley survives her.
She graduated DeRidder High School in 1943. On September 18, 1943 she married Millard Newton Hudson from Merryville before he deployed for military service. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage before Millard's passing in 1997.
The family lived in the Maplewood, LA area from 1948-1968, then in Tulsa, OK until the mid 80's when they returned to Beauregard parish, LA.
Joy is survived by her 3 children, Thomas Hudson and wife Marijen, Sharon Williams and husband Jerry, Carroll Cotton and husband Richard, many wonderful nieces and nephews, and her loving care giver, Barbara Young. She was a beloved Mama Joy to 7 grandchildren- Bryan Hudson, Terry Hudson, David Hudson, Brandon Cotton, Jessica Grigsby, Sean Grigsby, Christopher Lewis; 4 great grandchildren, Austin Hudson, Bryce Hudson, Rory Joseph, Conner Joseph.
Joy was a true southern lady. Many will remember her for her commitment to our Lord Jesus Christ, her close communication with every descendant of the Nichols family, her many life-long friendships, the creativity reflected in her paintings, the care she took of family heirlooms so they could be handed down to future generations and her collections of other historical items.
Please join the family in celebrating Joy's life on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at New Life Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA. Visitation will begin at 10:00am with service at 11:00am. Pastor Lynn Clayton will officiate. Joy will be buried in Merryville next to the love of her life in a private family ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to New Life Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA, a charity of your choice, or random acts of kindness which was Joy's style.
