William Frank Alton, 64, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at his home. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Dawn (D.D.) Luther Alton; daughters, Cristi Alton, and Kaylee Alton Lobes and husband James; grandchildren, Karyee Lobes and Leesan Lobes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Christine Alton.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 14, 2015 from 4:00pm until 10:00pm and also on Friday, May 15, 2015 from 9:00am until 11:00am at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA.

Funeral service is Friday, May 15, 2015 at 11:00am at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Good Hope cemetery in Singer, LA. Bro. Ronnie Lalande will officiate.

Virginia Shirley
November 18, 1919 - November 24, 2015
Virginia Ruth Shirley, 96, of DeRidder went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 24, 2015. She was born on November 18, 1919, in Klemme, Iowa, to Paul and Maude Stille.

At the age of 13, the family moved to DeRidder where they operated Pleasant Hill Grocery for many years. She graduated from DeRidder High School in 1937, and in 1941 married Claudie (C.H.) Shirley. She first worked at Shirley Chevrolet and later became secretary at DeRidder Junior High where she served for 20 years before her retirement. She also retired as a bus driver for the Beauregard Parish School Board.

During her adult life her love of music gave her many opportunities to serve as church pianist or organist. She played for many years at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and then later at Beckwith Baptist as well as Memorial Baptist.

She was preceded in death by Claudie, her husband of 50 years, and an infant daughter, Tanya Kay; her parents, Paul and Maude Stille; sisters, Miriam Bowen of Stonewall and Barbara Kinney of DeRidder; and a very special aunt, Irene (Toots) Davis of DeRidder.

Left to survive her are two sons; Terry and wife Carolyn (Dees) Shirley of DeRidder, and Paul and wife Pat (Cooper) Shirley of DeRidder. Also surviving “Nana” are 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren: Cammie Lockhart, husband Gary, and daughters, Haley and Heidi of DeRidder; Chad Shirley, wife Paige (Nelson), and daughters, Claudia and Callie of Kingwood, TX; David Shirley and wife Alison (Cooley), and children, Dustin, Deacon, and Lilly of DeRidder; Christy Nettles, husband Kevin, and sons, Cade and Cole of Stonewall, LA; and Jon Shirley of Moss Bluff, LA.

Visitation and Funeral service will be held at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder on Friday, November 27, 2015. Visitation will begin at 10:00am until time of service at 2:00pm. Rev. Jerry Johnson will officiate. Her grandsons will be serving as pall bearers. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill cemetery in DeRidder.

The family wishes to express thanks to Westwood Manor administration and staff for their care during these last 4 ½ years. We also want to express our gratitude to those “special” friends who
made their faithful visits during this time.

Michael Cates
February 19, 1979 - November 21, 2015
Michael David Cates, 36, of Longville, LA, passed from this life Saturday, November 21, 2015 at his home. Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Elise Cates of Longville, LA; brothers, Harry Shelton Cates, Jr. and James Roland Jackson; sister, Brenda Sheryl Shell and husband Oscar “Pudgie”. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Cates, Sr.

Funeral service will be Monday, November 23, 2015 at 2:00pm at Longville Pentecostal Church in Longville, LA. Burial will follow at Good Hope cemetery in Singer, LA. Bro. Larry Talent will officiate.

Hoye Midkiff
October 3, 1921 - November 16, 2015
Hoye Midkiff, 94, of Leesville, LA, passed from this life on Monday, November 16, 2015 in DeRidder, LA. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Bertha Midkiff; son, Dewayne Whatley and wife Brenda all of Leesville; daughters, Martha Hickman and husband Earl, and Brenda Burton and husband Gary all of Merryville; brother, Beamon Midkiff of DeRidder; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Minnie Midkiff; sisters, Lorena Stephens, Eunice Lewis, and Katie Lewis; brothers, Neulan Midkiff, Byron Midkiff, and Wesley Midkiff.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 17, 2015 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Lillie Pentecostal Church in Cottonwood. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Lillie Pentecostal Church. Burial will follow at Miller cemetery in Cottonwood. Bro. Pat Austin and Rev. George Swain will officiate.

Don E. Thrasher
June 6, 1933 - February 13, 2015
Don E. Thrasher, 81 of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Friday, February 13, 2015.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Cathy Thrasher Montgomery & husband Don of Los Alamitos, CA, Julie M. Harvey of DeRidder, LA, Susan Thrasher Schmied, PsyD of Torrance, CA; brothers, Jack Thrasher of CA, Bill Thrasher of AZ, Dennis Thrasher of CA; sister, Kaye Bozeman & husband Carl of AZ; stepchildren, Jennifer Palmer, Joel Brimm, Deborah Wright; grandchildren, Christopher, Jayme, Kristen, Amanda, Samantha, Nicholas, Kyra, Madison, Megan, Austin, Kaylee; great grandchildren, Akino, Alex, Alyssa, Alison, Hadleigh, Cullen, Lily, Calli; and his best girl, Gigi. preceded in death by, his parents, Harold & Margaret Thrasher; son in law, Raymond D. Harvey.

Ella Cole
September 29, 1937 - February 11, 2015
Ella Mae Ross Cole, 77, of Ragley, LA, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 11, 2015. She was born in Crowley, LA, to Christopher and Louise Duplechin. Ella was a loving, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an active member of Magnolia Baptist Church and loved her church family and friends. She was an avid gardner and cook. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Kenneth “Tuffy” Cole of Ragley, LA; children, Terrell Ross and wife Terry of Port Neches, TX, Steve Ross of Beaumont, TX; Debbie Pomeroy and husband Rick of Mooresville, NC, Laurie Cole of Alexandria, VA, Shane Cole and wife Crystal of Weatherford, TX; grandchildren, Corbett and Reshell Ross, Cody and Marsha Ross, Steven and Jessica Ross, Taylor Pomeroy, Cooper Cole and Carter Cole; great grandchildren, Haylie and Drake Ross, Chance and Brightyn Ross, Noah, Arielle, and Farrah Ross; brothers, Wilson, Ray, Wesley and Calvin Duplechin. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters, and 3 brothers.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 13, 2015 beginning at 5:00pm at Magnolia Baptist Church in Ragley, LA. Funeral service is Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 1:00pm at Magnolia Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Magnolia cemetery in Ragley. Rev. Carlton “Carlie” Jackson, Dr. J.P. Miles, and Rev. Tony Anthony will officiate.

John Wayne Cooley, 78 of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Monday, February 9, 2015. Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Kenneth G. Cooley and wife Carol of DeRidder, LA; grandchildren, Klayton Cooley and wife Faith of Moss Bluff, LA, and Kelsey Cooley of DeRidder, LA; nephew, Kerry L. Cooley of Baton Rouge, LA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Cooley; brother, James G. Cooley; and sister-in-law, Betty L. Cooley.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 10, 2015 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm and Wednesday, February 11, 2015 beginning at 9:00am until time of service at Shady Grove Pentecostal Church in DeRidder, LA. Scott Gipson of DeRidder, LA; Tracie Garlin (Smith), Marilyn Savage, Sabrina Holton, and Roberta Johnson; stepmother, Irene Preston Loggins of GA, spouse, Earl Scott of FL; brothers, Matthew Preston of FL, Kalvin Preston of Atlanta, GA, and Roosevelt Preston of FL; sisters, Laura Scurry of GA, Lee Preston of FL, and Maggie Preston Raymond; grandchildren, Mitchell Garlin, Jay Garlin, Gerald Garlin, Kali Garlin, Orin Smith Garlin, James Garlin, Tanessa Holton, Active Marine Corps, Calvin T. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 11:00am at Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA. Pastor Keith Stevenson will officiate.

Services will be held Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 1:00PM at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Pitkin, LA. Burial will follow at Blue Branch cemetery in Pitkin, LA. Rev. Larry White & Bro. Brian Thompson will officiate.
