Wanda Louise Brown, 80, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Monday, March 10, 2014. Wanda was a life resident of DeRidder, a mother and homemaker. She was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church. Those left to cherish her memory are her sons Gary Brown and wife Sheryl of DeRidder, LA, and Oscar “O.D.” Brown of Strang, OK; daughter, Audrey Brown King of Adair, OK; brothers, Willie Burks of Atkins, AR, DeWight “Shrimp” Burks of DeRidder, LA, and Roland “PeeWee” Burks of Oakdale, CA; sister, Doshie Ree Miller of Anderson, MO; 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Louise Burks; husband, Jess H. Brown, Jr.; son, Jess H. Brown III; brother, Theale Burks; sister, Marylee Lloyd.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 11, 2014 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 1:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Whitaker cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Rev. Dalton Isbell will officiate.
Lawrence Norman Cooley
March 29, 1939 - March 4, 2014
Norman Cooley, 74, of DeQuincy, LA passed from this life on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at his home. Norman served in the U.S. Army from May 1956 until April 1959 and served 3 years in the Panama Canal Zone. He worked at Cities Service and retired from Local 106 Pipefitters. Norman was an avid deer hunter. He was known to the people of DeQuincy as the man on the "Red Scooter".
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, Joyce Cooley of DeQuincy, LA; sons, Shannon Cooley and wife Linda of Singer, LA, Scott Cooley of DeQuincy, LA, and Monte Lee Cooley and wife Brenda of Singer, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Mattie Cooley.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2014 from 4:00pm until 10:00pm at Lifeway Pentecostal Church in Singer, LA. Funeral services will be Friday, March 7, 2014 at 10:00am at Lifeway Pentecostal Church. Burial will follow at Oretta cemetery in Oretta, LA. Bro. Alvin Smith will officiate.
James David Bennett
June 25, 1960 - February 28, 2014
Jim Bennett, 53, transitioned from this life to life everlasting on February 28, 2014 in DeRidder, Louisiana. Jim, a native of DeRidder, living in Merryville, is survived by his daughter, April Rhenja, and grandson, Amir, of Orlando, Florida; three siblings: Janice Vinyard, Becky Hammerschmidt, and Robert Bennett, all of DeRidder, and a host of nephews, nieces, and special aunts and uncles. James is preceded in death by his parents, R.A. (Jack) Bennett, Jr. and Ruby. Jim cherished the friendships he made from a lifetime of experiences hunting, fishing, diving, boating, playing music, and cooking for others.
A memorial service to celebrate his transition will be held at the Merryville Methodist Church on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 4pm, with visitation beginning at 3pm. Rev. Rick Watson and Rev. Wayne Evans will officiate.
Essie Akin

Essie Dee Akin, 77, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Monday, February 24, 2014 at her home. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Vanessa Roshto and husband Reed, and Judy Richard, all of DeRidder, LA; sister, Effie Whinstine and husband Cleveland of Oakdale, LA; grandchildren, Michael Roshto and wife Kayla of Deridder, LA, Jason Roshto and Becky Marcantel of Sulphur, LA, and Crystal West and husband Spooky of Rosepine, LA; 5 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Akin; parents, Fred and Estelle Stafford; granddaughter, Katina Roshto; son-in-law, Wilfred Richard; and numerous brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 26, 2014 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 2:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Beauregard cemetery in DeRidder, LA.

Alzadia Lucille Jordan, 86, of Merryville, La, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 in Lake Charles, LA. Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Louis Jordan and wife Stephanie Denise; Luke Jordan, Jr. and wife Clora; and Leo Jordan; and stepson, John Collins all of Houston, TX; daughter, Laura Johnson and husband Tony of Merryville, LA; sisters, Jane Palmer of Bon Weir, TX and Victoria Miles of Jasper, TX; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luke Jordan, Sr.
Visitation and funeral services will be held Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Dunning Chapel in Merryville, LA. Visitation is from 9:00am until 11:00am with funeral services beginning at 11:00am. Burial will follow in Merryville Community cemetery in Merryville, LA. Rev. Fred Hooper and Bishop Gasaway will officiate.

Marvin Elvin Swain, 79, passed from this life on February 21, 2014 in Texas.
He is survived by his children, Christine Hall & Husband Ray of Garland, TX, Keith Swain of Bloomsdale, MO, Nathan Swain & Wife Sandra of Garland, TX, Deborah Sue Davis & Husband Clint of Royse City, TX, Sandra Swain of St. Genevieve, MO, Stephen Swain & Wife Susan of Amarillo, TX. Sister, Faye Paolino & Husband Victor of Shelton, Washington; and 12 Grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Effie and Chester Swain and Wendell Swain and nephew, David Swain.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2014 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA and will resume at 9:00am, Monday, February 24, 2014 until time of service at 2:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow at the Holly Springs cemetery in Leesville, LA.
Mr. Swain was born October 27, 1934. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in 1953, with the US Navy. He ran a successful contracting business in the Beaumont-Port Arthur area. He will truly be missed by all.
