Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sherry Schysm of Longville, LA; sons, Douglas Dearl Schysm, Jr. and wife Jenifer of Ragley, LA, Richard Allen Schysm of Ft. Thomas, AZ, Judd Almond McDonald of Lake Charles, LA, Jess Allan McDonald of Lake Charles, LA, and Jake Alvin McDonald of Longville, LA; daughter, Shauna Renee Schysm of Youngsville, LA; brothers, Gilbert Roy Schysm, Willie “Bill” Schysm, and Lloyd Schysm all of DeQuincy, La; sisters, Carolin Nolen of Longville, LA, and Kathy Schysm Perkins of DeQuincy, La; 18 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Mertie Schysm.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 from 5:00pm until 10:00pm at Longville Pentecostal Church in Longville, LA. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 11am at Longville Pentecostal Church. Burial will follow at Magnolia cemetery in Ragley, LA. Bro. Larry Talent, Bro. George Smith, and Bro. Glen Cooley will officiate.

Chevis Doucet
October 20, 1921 - February 1, 2014
Chevis Doucet, 92, of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on Saturday, February 1, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Pearl Doucet of Merryville, LA. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 1:00 PM at St. Joseph cemetery in Rayne, LA.

Erie Mazyck
September 15, 1946 - January 28, 2014
Erie Lee Mazyck was born September 15, 1946 in DeRidder, Louisiana, to the late Mary Mazyck and Neele Jackson.

Erie accepted Christ at an early age where she became a member of Starlight Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor, Lutheran Smith.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Regina Mazyck and Shirley Akins; two brothers, Aaron Mazyck and Harold Akins.

Her memory will carry on in the lives of those she loved; her son, William Fitzgerald (Vanessa) Mazyck of DeRidder, and baby boy, Sheldon Renard (Karen) Mazyck of DeRidder. She is also survived by her brother, Larry Mazyck and wife Regina; sisters, Sherry Dorsey , Katherine Beasley and husband Frank, all of DeRidder, and Raybelle Miller of Miami, FL; 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; and special nephew/son, Ernest St. Romain.

Visitation and funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at St. Mary's Church of God in Christ in DeRidder, LA. Visitation will be from 10:00am until 11:00am, with funeral services beginning at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Beauregard cemetery in DeRidder, LA.

Bertha Davis
July 22, 1916 - January 27, 2014
Bertha Davis, 97, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Monday, January 27, 2014. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Daniel Archer and wife Linda of DeRidder; daughters, Lee Davis of Tampa, FL, and Lillie Williams of DeRidder; grandchildren, Greg Archer and wife Pam of DeRidder, Angela Archer of DeRidder, Connie Smith and husband Gary of DeRidder, Judy Hulett and husband Sidney of Sulphur, Randy Archer of Houston, TX, Brooke Smith and husband Kelly of Palmetto, FL, Shaun Everett and wife Elizabeth of DeRidder, Alex Carpenter of Greenville, SC and Demeris Williams of Slidell, LA; and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Edward Davis, and son, Jimmie Archer.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 31, 2014 at 10:00am at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Lewis cemetery in DeRidder. Bro. Jay Alexander will officiate.

Robert Pierce
May 15, 1944 - January 27, 2014
Robert Allen Pierce, 69, of Singer, LA, passed from this life on Monday, January 27, 2014 in Lake Charles, LA. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Susan Pierce of Singer, LA; daughters, Tammie Rigmaiden and husband Travis of DeQuincy, LA and Sherrie Martinez and husband Jason of Starks, LA; brothers, Donald Pierce of Alabama, Thomas, Carl Jr., and Rodger Pierce all of Singer, LA, and Ronald Pierce of DeQuincy, LA; sisters, Evelyn Bowman and Miriam Massie of Singer, LA, Lila Couteter of DeRidder, LA, Verna Pickering of Singer, LA, and Gail Frazier of DeRidder, LA; grandchildren, Tyler, Caleb and Jaylin Martinez. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Carl Pierce, Sr., and brothers, Jerry and Kenneth Pierce.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 10:00am until 10:00pm and on Friday, January 31, 2014 beginning at 10:00am until time of service at Singer Baptist Church in Singer, LA. Funeral services will be Friday, January 31, 2014 at 2:00pm at Singer Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Newlin cemetery in Singer. Bro. Clint Hines and Bro. Jordan Doyle will officiate.

Mary Catherine Humble Gibson
August 14, 1947 - January 27, 2014
Mary Catherine Humble Gibson, 66, passed on to be with our Lord on January 27, 2014 at her residence in Fisher, Louisiana. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of almost 46 years, Malcolm Keith Gibson; daughter, Nicole Gibson Brien and husband Shane of Baton Rouge, LA; and son, Joshua Hunter Gibson of Baton Rouge, LA; granddaughters, Catherine “Cate” Amanda, Elizabeth “Ella” Holland, and Sadie Margaret Brien; brother, Jordan Humble and wife Kristy of Polson, MT; sisters, Ingia Humble Parish of Marshall, TX, and Renee Humble Myers and husband Hardy of DeRidder, LA; sisters-in-law, Peggy Owens and husband Dennis of Ft. Myers, FL, LaNell Darst and Daena Gibson of Decatur, IL; and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy and Lucille Humble; and sister, Amanda Humble Bumgardner.

Mary was a graduate of Minden High School, Class of 1965, and retired from the State of Louisiana after 32 years of service.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014, beginning at 9:00am at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA until time of service at 10:00am. A private interment will be held at a later date at the St. James Episcopal Methodist Columbarium in Baton Rouge, LA. Reverend Rick Watson, Merryville Methodist Church will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the charity of your choice.

Kallie Laine Gilbert
January 20, 2014 - January 25, 2014
Kallie Laine Gilbert, infant daughter of Cory and Sarah Gilbert of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on Saturday, January 25, 2014 in New Orleans, LA.

Those left to cherish her memory are her parents; sister, Braylee Breaux of Starks; maternal grandparents, Pamela and Danny Lott of Merryville, LA and John Taylor of Moss Bluff, LA; paternal grandparents, Shannon and Brent Anderson of Savannah, TN and Danny and Debbie Gilbert of Waynesboro, TN.

Visitation will be held Monday, January 27, 2014 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 10:00am at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cannon cemetery in Merryville, LA. Pastor Cody Smith will officiate.

Junior Cansler, 83, of Starks, LA, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 22, 2014.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Brandy Boudreaux of Mauriceville, TX; grandchildren, triplets, Reagan, Madison, and Landon; and longtime companion, Sharon Myers of Starks, LA.
Visitation and funeral services will be held on Friday, January 24, 2014 at the Emalie O'Brien Center of First Pentecostal Church in Starks, LA. Visitation will be from 10:00am until 3:00pm, with funeral services beginning at 3:00pm. Burial will follow at VFW cemetery in Starks, LA.

Austin Lee Hebert, Sr.
September 16, 1929 - January 22, 2014
Austin Lee Hebert, 84, of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 in DeRidder, LA. “PaPa Bear” was a dedicated Christian, husband, father and grandfather. He was proud to be Cajun and was very hardworking, and served in the Army during WWII. He was an avid horseman and cattleman in his younger years. Austin was a member of First Baptist Church in Merryville, LA.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Austin L. Hebert, Jr. of Lake Charles, LA, and Carlton Wayne Hebert of Merryville, LA; daughters, Janet Lee Hebert Pitre and husband Craig of Merryville, LA, and Debra Ann Hebert of Moss Bluff, LA; brother, Thomas Wallace Hebert of Spring, TX; sister, Barbara Ann Bolton of DeRidder, LA; sister-in-law, Janice Chance of Westlake, LA; grandchildren, Jamie Lee Schiro, Joshua Lee Hebert, Simone Nikol Hebert, Jennifer Ann Pitre and fiance’ Cory Leger, Mallory Wise Mitchell and husband Wesley, Mary Catherine Pitre and Emily Kay Hebert; 7 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Hebert; father, Lucien Hebert; mother, Helen Doucet Prudhomme; and brother, John Carlton Hebert.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 24, 2014 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm and Saturday, January 25, 2014 from 9:00am until 2:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 2:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Merryville cemetery in Merryville, LA. Bro. Wayne Squyres will officiate. Charitable donations may be made to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital.

James Miller
January 12, 1927 - January 20, 2014
James Miller, 87, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Monday, January 20, 2014 at his home. Mr. Miller served in the Army for 5 years and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 4 bronze service stars. He also served in the Navy for 2 years during World War II `on an oil tanker.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Claudine Miller of DeRidder; son, Steve Miller and wife Pam of DeRidder; grandchildren, Ginger Kemp, Damon Miller, and James P. Miller; great grandchildren, Lathan and Keagan Miller, and Gabrielle and Dakota Kemp; and a host of cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Annie Miller; and 2 sisters.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2014 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 23, 2014, at 2:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Beauregard cemetery. Rev. Shelton Sigler will officiate.
