Virginia Holder, 80, of DeRidder, Louisiana, passed from this life on Sunday, April 22, 2012.
Those left to cherish her memory are sons, Edwin Holder of Humble, Texas and Ken Holder and wife Darla of Brookshire, Texas; daughters, Marilyn Adkinson and husband Grover of Tomball, Texas and Nelda Clemons and husband James of Shreveport, Louisiana, brother, John Lamar Christopher and wife Nell of Dry Creek, Louisiana; ten grandchildren, Edwin Blake Holder, Tanya Holder, Holly Holder, Teresa Baldauf, Jason Martin, Natalie Morgan, Fawna McKinley, Stephanie Pickett, Tiphanie Rivers and Jamie Maise and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Monday, April 23, 2012 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm and Tuesday, April 24, 2012 from 9:00am until time of service at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, Louisiana. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 3:00pm also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Oakland cemetery in Dry Creek, Louisiana. Rev. Miller will officiate.

Sheila Morales-Aviles
January 18, 1961 - April 21, 2012

Sheila Morales-Aviles, 51, of DeRidder, Louisiana, passed from this life on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at her home. She is survived by her husband, Edwin Morales-Aviles. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, Louisiana.

Mary Landry
February 4, 1943 - April 18, 2012

Mary L. Landry, 69, of DeRidder, Louisiana, passed from this life on Wednesday, April 18, 2012. Mary L. Landry was one of six children born in Deweyville, Texas to the union of the late Andrew Guillory and Samantha Hubbard Guillory, who both preceded her in death. She was baptized at an early age at Bethel A.M.E. Church. She served as secretary, Sunday School teacher and Superintendent. She received Christ as her personal Savior and was a firm believer. Sis. Landry attended George Washington Carver under the supervision of Mr. Cornelius King. Some of her employment history includes, One Hour Cleaners and the Beauregard Parish Jail.
Mrs. Landry’s late husband, Charlie Landry and son Michael Landry both preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory: 6 sons, Gerald (Karen) Palmer of Lake Charles, La.; Roy, Christopher and Harold of DeRidder; Pitius Landry, Charlie (Kim) Guillory, and 1 daughter, Shannon Mark; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, 1 brother, Willie (Paula) Guillory, 1 sister, Rosa (Floyd) Cole, a special godchild, Latonia Johnson and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 from 10:00am to 1:00pm at Sweet Home Baptist Church in DeRidder, Louisiana. Funeral service will be Tuesday April 24, 2012 at 1:00pm at Sweet Home Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Beauregard cemetery in DeRidder, Louisiana. Rev. Freddie Thomas will officiate.

Deborah Jones
May 1, 1951 - December 29, 2012

Mrs. Deborah Conner Jones, elect lady and wife of Rev. Dr. James A. Jones, Jr., went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ at 12:46 PM, Saturday, December 29, 2012, after a lengthy bout with metastic breast cancer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William H. Conner, Jr. and Frances Madeline Smith, both of Lakeland, Florida.

She is survived by her husband and two daughters, Sarah E. Jones and Lydia R. Jones, of DeRidder, Louisiana; four brothers, William S. Conner of Lakeland, Florida, Stephen D. Conner of Dorchester, South Carolina, Bruce A. Conner of Eagle Lake, Florida, and George E. Conner of Bartow, Florida; and one sister, Terri L. Croft of Lakeland, Florida.
The family will receive friends at the DeRidder Presbyterian Church, 257 Church Street, DeRidder, Louisiana, on Thursday, January 3, 2013, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The funeral service will be Friday, January 4, 2013, at 11:00 AM at the church.

Peggy McCullough
January 31, 1946 - December 31, 2012
Peggy McCullough of Merryville, Louisiana passed from this life on Monday, December 31, 2012. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, William Junior McCullough; sons, Roger McCullough and Walter McCullough; daughters, Angie Eaves and husband Randy and Renee Moulton and husband Lamar; one sister; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren all of Merryville, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hobby and Matilda Stanley; one grandchild; 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Peggy’s passion was her church, family, friends, hunting and fishing. She loved to crochet and she made the best chicken and dumplings. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 at Bethel Grove UPC in Merryville, LA beginning at 2:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at Bethel Grove UPC at 10:00am. There will be a graveside service at Hyatt cemetery in Fields, LA under the pavilion at 1:00pm. Bro. Roy Hoosier and Bro. Gerald Read will officiate.

Wesley Young
September 19, 1960 - December 27, 2012

Wesley Melbourne Young, 53, of Douglasville, Ga passed from this life on December 27, 2012 at his home. Those left to cherish his memory are his father, Wilbur Young of Splendora, TX; mother, Carole Franks Dunn and husband William Drinkwater of Freeport, FL; brother, James Young of Freeport, FL; sister, Sabrina Clough and husband David of Douglasville, GA; grandmother, Lucy Franks, of Merryville, LA; nephew, Dane Clough and wife Tori and daughter, Austen of Katy, TX. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Herbert Franks.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2013 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at Boxwood Church of Christ in Bivens, LA. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013 at 2:00pm at Boxwood Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Bivens cemetery in Bivens, LA.

Gary Burks
October 9, 1948 - December 26, 2012

Gary Dean Burks, 64, of Starks, LA passed from this life on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at his home. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janice; son, Greg Burks; daughter, Jody Stracener and husband Steven all of Starks, LA and one grandchild, Dylon Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents, R.C. and Irene Burks.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Boxwood Church of Christ in Bivens, LA at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Bivens cemetery in Bivens. Bro. Rod Boyer and Elder Earl Franks will officiate.

Margaret B. Dees
February 28, 1929 - December 26, 2012
Margaret B. Dees, 83, left this life on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at her home in DeRidder, Louisiana.

Born in Berea, Ohio, on February 28, 1929, she and her family moved to Colorado Springs, CO, during her teenage years where she graduated from Colorado Springs High. While he was in Colorado for his health, she met and married Willie Ray Dees from DeRidder, LA. They married on October 3, 1947, and began their life together in DeRidder where she has lived since that time.

Margaret was a homemaker until the death of Willie Ray in 1980 when she began to drive a school bus for the Beauregard Parish School System and was appointed to the Beauregard Police Jury where he had served as President. She then was elected for successive terms until she retired in 1996, having also served as President. She served on the Board of Commissioners of BMH until the time of her death as well as other city and community boards. Being a volunteer Pink Lady at BMH was also very rewarding for her.

Her faith and church life were the most vital part of her life, and she served in the church as long as her health allowed. She was a charter member of Texas Avenue Baptist Church (first known as Bethel), which was established as a mission by her father-in-law, Rev. Clarence Dees. She and Willie Ray were involved in other local churches where his father pastored, with her serving as a Sunday School teacher, GA leader, teaching and directing VBS, and being involved in Women on Mission. She became a member of First Baptist Church in 1966 where she remained a member until her death. She continued to lead there as well, adding involvement on committees and mission trips to her activities, including 2 trips to Honduras with the Baptist Medical Dental Mission and 5 mission trips with the senior adult ministry under the leadership of Rev. Doyle Cooper.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Willie Ray, and is survived by two children, daughter, Carolyn, and husband Terry Shirley of DeRidder and son, Raymond, and special friend Nadine Smith of New Iberia. She had four grand children, Chad Shirley and wife Paige of Kingwood, TX, Christy Shirley Nettles and husband, Rev. Kevin Nettles of Stonewall, LA; Ray Dees and wife Ericka of New Iberia and Lindsey Dees Fontenot and husband, Jason, of Lake Charles. She also had four great grandchildren, in whom she took great delight of being “Granny”; Claudia and Callie Shirley of Kingwood, TX and Cade and Cole Nettles of Stonewall, LA.

Her family is especially grateful for the many friends who were so very important to her all through her life, and, especially in these last months, much gratitude to the three ladies who loved and gave care: Bernice Strickland, Elaine Koehn and Lillie Craft. Special thanks go also to Dr. Carter and his office staff for their continuous care and concern across these months.

Jonathan Marks
March 9, 1988 - December 24, 2012

Jonathan Owen Marks, 24, of Woodville, TX passed from this life on Monday, December 24, 2012. Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Mary Christine Hadlock of DeRidder, LA and father, Robert Marks, Sr. of DeRidder, LA. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mary Katherine Iles Seale
August 23, 1926 - December 20, 2012
Mary Katherine Iles Seale, 86, of DeRidder, Louisiana went home to heaven on Thursday December 20th, 2012.

Mary was born to William Penn Iles and Mildred Campbell Iles, both of Beauregard Parish pioneer families, on August 23rd, 1926. She graduated first in her class from Dry Creek High School and earned an academic scholarship to Louisiana College. Mary declined the scholarship to instead work for the U.S. Navy in New Orleans, Louisiana during World War II. After World War II she met and married the love of her life Jake Seale of DeRidder, Louisiana. They were married for 65 years.

Growing up on her parent’s ranch in Dry Creek, Louisiana, she herded sheep on horseback and daily helped her mother prepare lunch for forty hired hands. For 44 years Mary worked as office manager for Hixson Funeral Home and Magnolia Life Insurance. Enjoying people and making them feel special was her forte’. “Miss Mary”, as she was often called, was known for her sweet smile and expertise at dominos. She was very devoted to and very proud of her two daughters, six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren who all adored her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Penn Iles and Mildred Campbell Iles, her brother, James Iles and her sister, Iva Jean Cole.

Those left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband, Jake Seale of DeRidder, daughter, Kay Seale Roper and husband, Colonel (Ret) Everette Roper, Jr of Enterprise Alabama, daughter, Jan Seale Benson and husband, Colonel (Ret) Robert Benson of Coudersport, Pennsylvania; her grandchildren, Rana Roper Holcek and husband, LTC Robert Holcek of Fort Sam Houston Texas, Karyn Roper Shelnutt and husband, Major Jeff Shelnutt of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Major Jake Roper and wife, Jamie Roper of Shaw Air Force Base, Sumter, South Carolina, Tara Kathryn McLamore and husband, Shane McLamore of DeRidder, Louisiana, Dr. Rhet Langley and wife, Hailey Langley, of Eglin Air Force Base, Niceville Florida, and Lana Elizabeth Benson of Fort Worth, Texas; and her great-grandchildren Kaki Holcek, Kaylie Holcek, Jackson Shelnutt, Saydie Kay Shelnutt, Clay Roper, Carter McLamore, Cruz McLamore and Cane McLamore.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 23rd, 2012 at 2 o’clock pm at the Myers-Colonial Funeral Home Chapel, DeRidder Louisiana. Reverend Lindsey Burns will officiate. Burial will follow at the Beauregard cemetery under the direction of Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 22nd, 2012 from 5pm-7pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home, DeRidder, Louisiana.

Mary’s family wishes to thank Dr. Henry Carter and the entire staff of Westwood Manor Nursing Home for their wonderful, loving care and especially for their friendship.
