Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Scott Myers of Morgan City, LA; daughter, Tyra Clark of Morgan City, LA; mother, Lenora Myers of Starks, La; and brother, Randy Myers of Starks, LA. He was preceded in death by his father, Arley Myers and twin brother, Billy Myers. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2012 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at the Emmolie O’Brien Center in Starks, LA. Funeral service will be on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at 2:00pm at First Pentecostal Church in Starks, LA. Burial will follow at Miller Annex in Starks, LA.

Wanda Williams
November 6, 1934 - Novmber 19, 2012
Wanda Lou Williams, 78, of DeRidder, Louisiana, passed from this life on Monday, November 19, 2012. Wanda was very loving, kind and faithful. She loved God and her family and they always came first.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 58 years, Henry L. Williams; sons, Michael Williams and wife Cheryl of Westminster, CO and Jay Williams of DeRidder, LA; daughters, Janet VanWinkle and husband Raymond of Magnolia, TX and Martha Kibler and husband Rick of DeRidder, LA; brother, Arlen McConathy and wife Jean of Natchitoches, LA; twin sister, Wilma Sue Hardy and husband Ed of Ball, LA; grandchildren, Ashley Barber and husband Derrick, Kamrie and Ripper VanWinkle, Collin and Cade Kibler and Alexis Williams. She was preceded in death by her father, Oscar McConathy, mother, Nora Dixon, daughter, Carolyn Sue Williams, brother, C.J. McConathy; sister, Melva Lilley; granddaughter, Kristian VanWinkle and stepfather, Warren Dixon.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm and on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 beginning at 11:00am until time of service at First United Pentecostal Church in DeRidder, LA. Funeral service will be Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 1:00pm also at First United Pentecostal Church. Burial will follow at Cooper cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Bro. Zale Lewis will officiate.

Charles Swilley
November 21, 1932 - November 18, 2012
Charles Monroe Swilley, 79, of Merryville, LA passed from this life on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. He was born November 21, 1932. He passed 3 days shy of his 80th birthday.

Mr. Swilley was a Veteran of the Air Force serving during the Korean War. He was a Master Mason of the Masonic Lodge and a member of Eastern Star and was a member of the Church of Christ in Merryville, LA. He was retired from Aramco Oil Co.

He is leaving a legacy of his wife, Ardessa Swilley; daughter, Sherry Swilley Hieronymus and husband Darrell of Roanoke, LA; son, Mark Swilley of Merryville, LA; brothers, Donald Swilley and wife Yvonne of Belle Chasse, LA and Ronald Swilley and wife Cecile of Ashdown, AR; sisters, Betty Cooley of Pitkin, LA, Patsy Michel of Marrero, LA, Lilly Craft of DeRidder, LA, Sherlyn Hickman and husband Hardy of Merryville, LA and Vicky Brooks of Merryville, LA; grandchildren, Scott Miano and wife Ashley, Andrew Hieronymus and wife Sabrina, and Suz’Anne Hieronymus all of Lake Charles, LA; great grandchildren, Connor Miano, Callie Miano and Averie Hieronymus and many nieces, nephews, other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, David Swilley, his parents, Dewey and Minnie Swilley and brother, Ricky.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 2:00pm at Boxwood Church of Christ in Bivens, LA. Burial will follow at Boxwood cemetery in Bivens. Bro. Jim Miers and Rev. Darrell Hieronymus will officiate.

CSM (Ret.) Robert Earl Burks
December 29, 1935 - November 16, 2012
CSM (Retired) Robert Earl Burks, 76, passed from this life on Friday, November 16, 2012 at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be Monday, November, 19, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00p.m. at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 2:00p.m. also at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Merryville cemetery, in Merryville, LA.

Robert Burks, enlisted in the National Guard on March 13, 1954. He joined the United States Army on March 10, 1961 and retired on October 31, 1985 as a CSM. During his 31 years of distinguished service, he was the recipient of the Viet Nam Service Medal, The Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Medal, The Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm Leaf, The Bronze Star Medal and The Legion of Merit. His last tour of duty was at Ft. Hood, TX, as CSM of the 13th Support Command.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Loretta Burks; son, Col. Robert Earl Burks Jr. and wife Angie of Monterrey, CA; daughters, Trisha Nepomuceno and husband Yves of San Diego, CA and Rebecca White and husband Gary of Lake Charles, LA; grandchildren, Heather, Sophie, Leah, Anna, Aaron, Joseph, Robert, Ryan and Leo, and great grandchild, Landon.

Freddie Teston
November 18, 1950 - November 16, 2012

Freddie Teston, 61, of DeRidder, Louisiana, passed from this life on Friday, November 16, 2012. Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Freddie Teston Jr. and wife Kathy and Eric Teston and wife Stephanie, all of Monroe, LA; daughters, Michelle Henderson of Monroe, LA, Bridget McCloud and husband Jessy of Strang, OK and Tammy Congleton of Vermont; brothers, Robert Teston and wife Niki of Phoenix, AZ, Raymond Teston and wife Brenda of DeRidder, LA and Eddie Teston and wife Denise also of DeRidder; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thelton and Mamie Teston. Freddie Teston was a great man and will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 18, from 6:00pm until 10:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral service will be held on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 11:00 am also at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home.

Amanda Lynn Jones
October 14, 1976 - November 15, 2012
Amanda Lynn Jones, 36, of Merryville, Louisiana passed away on November 15, 2012, while vacationing with her family in Mena, Arkansas.

Mandy was born in DeRidder, LA on October 14, 1976. Those left to cherish her memory are her mother, Sheila Jones Langston of Merryville, LA; daughter, Riley Michelle Jones of Merryville, LA; brothers, Casey Jones and wife Jody of Merryville, LA and Chris Jones and wife Christy of Lake Charles, LA; grandmother, Verline Jeans of Merryville, LA and nephews Hunter Jones and Bain Jones and niece, Aspen Jones. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Jones, step-father, Robert Langston, grandfather, Dick Jeans and cousin and best friend, Michelle Hammond.

Mandy graduated from Merryville High School in 1994, where she was named Valedictorian and Homecoming Queen. Mandy also graduated from Lamar State College in Orange, TX and was a Registered Nurse. Mandy never met a stranger and enjoyed having fireside chats with friends and family.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 18, 2012 from 2:00pm until 10:00pm at Green Oaks Baptist Church in Merryville, LA. Funeral service will be held on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 2:00pm, also at Green Oaks Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Meadows cemetery in Merryville, LA. Jason Fortenberry and Bro. Buddy Freeman will officiate.

Verdman Bailey
August 3, 1923 - November 11, 2012
Verdman Bailey, 89, of Dry Creek, Louisiana passed from this life on Sunday, November 11, 2012 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Mr. Bailey was a Master Mason. He was a hardworking man, wonderful husband and an awesome grandfather. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Anna Marie Bailey; sons, Terrell Bailey and wife Gaye of Nederland, TX and Merrell Bailey and wife Denise of Dry Creek, LA; daughter, Phyllis McBride and husband Kenneth of Dry Creek, LA ; sister, Jacquline Burrow of Rosepine, LA; 6 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and 1 grand daughter, Robbie McBride.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Hopewell Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA and on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 beginning at 10:00am until time of service. Funeral service will be on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 2:00pm also at Hopewell Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Hopewell cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Pastor John Gray and Pastor Charlie Bailey will officiate.

Henry (Jack) Salyer "Papa Jack"

Henry (Jack) Salyer, 86, passed from this life on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at his home in Miramar Beach, Florida.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Bonnie Salyer; sons, James Edward Salyer and wife Sheila of Jackson, MS and Jack C. Salyer and wife Teresa of Dayton, TX; daughters, Jane White of Houston, TX, Debbie Olow and husband Gene of Miramar Beach, FL, Chance Gullet and husband Michael of Santa Rosa Beach, FL and Beverly Strother of Miramar Beach, FL; grandsons, Scott Salyer and wife Crystal of Humble, TX and Seth Thomsen of Winsted, CT; granddaughters, Charity Price and Ashley Reeves, both of Santa Rosa Beach, FL and Hollie Shelesky and Jeff Dohn of Torrington, CT and great-great grandchildren, Cole Pettitt of Santa Rosa Beach, FL and Kaia Thomsen of Winsted, CT. He was preceded in death by his mother, Julia Shelton.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 12, 2012 from 9:00am until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral service will be Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 2:00pm also at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Old Cypress cemetery in DeRidder, Louisiana. Bro. Frank Ott and Bro. James Scott
August 10, 1948 - November 5, 2012

James C. Scott (64) died on November 5th, 2012 with family in DeRidder, Louisiana. James Clide Scott was born on August 10, 1948 at Scott Settlement in Rosepine, Louisiana to Maranda (Lands) Scott and Central Scott and reared in DeRidder with his six brothers and sister. James moved to California in the late 1960’s and worked for the city of Berkley for several years before an accident ended his job. After completing his GED, James earned a bachelor’s degree in Folk Art and business administration. James returned to DeRidder in 1996 and remained until his death.
James turned to his art in the wake of his accident. He spent the latter 30 years of his life creating beautiful paintings that spoke to the plight and spirit of African Americans. His art has been featured in the Oakland Museum of Art and in the Smithsonian. Though he spent the latter portion of his life in self-imposed seclusion, he expressed himself fully through his paintings. He never married and had no children; instead, he cherished his extended family of nieces, nephews, and young people and encouraged them to pursue education and entrepreneurship as the means to truly liberate themselves. James was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Lester, and most recently by his oldest brother, Elgie Scott. He is survived by his brothers, Marvin, Central, Elmo, McCoy, and his sister, Virgie Foston, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A wake will be held on Tuesday evening, November 13, 2012 at Myers- Colonial Funeral Home from 6:00pm until 9:00pm; friends and family are invited. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 11:00am at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder. Burial will follow at Cypress Creek cemetery in Rosepine, LA. Rev. Susan Weathers
August 7, 1979 - October 28, 2012
Susan Weathers, 33, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Sunday, October 28, 2012 at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, LA.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Derrick Weathers; daughters, Destiny and Desiree Weathers and Summer Jones; step-son, Derrick Lee Weathers all of DeRidder, LA; Brothers, Cedric Allen of Merryville, LA, Russell Allen and wife Margarett of Merryville, LA, Reginald Allen of Lake Charles, LA, Tyrone Allen and wife Anthonette of Merryville, LA, Roger Palmer and fiance' Janice of Baton Rouge, LA, and Oscar Palmer of Belgrade, TX; sisters, Shirley Allen of DeRidder, LA, Susie Vallaire and husband Matthew of DeRidder, LA, Bobbie Franklin of DeRidder, LA, Maxine Stone of Missouri, Gladys Palmer of Merryville, LA, Stephanie Oquastue of Houston, TX, Vanessa Palmer of Rosepine, LA, and Diane Palmer of Rosepine, LA; brother-in-law, Jermaine Washington of Baton Rouge, LA and sister-in-law, Toni Washington of Baton Rouge, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harrison and Gloria Allen; mother-in-law, Deborah Washington and aunts, Katherine Palmer and Elizabeth Keys.
Susan was loved by all and was never a stranger to anyone.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 10:00am at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow at Beauregard cemetery. Jerry Day will officiate.
