Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Robert Wayne McKinney, Jr. and wife Denise of Merryville, LA; daughter, Kimberly Verrett and husband Kevin of DeRidder, LA; brothers, Cecil McKinney and wife Faye of Lady Lake, FL, Charles McKinney and wife Alice of Montgomery, AL and Terry McKinney of Tallassee, AL; sisters, Clovette Baker of Tallassee, AL and Montez Bryant and husband Gary of Little Texas, AL; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary McKinney, daughter, Angela McKinney, and parents, Kinard and Mattie McKinney.

Visitation and will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013 from 9:00am until 11:00am at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. A memorial service will follow at 11:00am.

David Dean Peake
September 12, 1963-May 31, 2013

David Dean Peake, 49, passed from this life on Friday, May 31, 2013 in DeRidder, LA. Mr. Peake is survived by his wife, Carlotta Peake of DeRidder, LA; sons, Isaiah Peake of DeRidder, LA, Jonathan Peake of DeRidder, LA; daughters Christy Classen & Husband Philip of DeRidder, LA, Jessica Peake of DeRidder, LA; brothers, Michael Peake of Freeport, IL, Wesley Peake of Woodstock, GA; 3 grandchildren, Cheney, Anslea, & Joshua Classen of DeRidder, LA. He was preceded in death by his mother, Charlene Peake and grandparents, Charles & Gladys Leggett.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 3, 2013 from 6:00-9:00PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, Jun 4, 2013 at 10:00AM at Southern Magnolia Mennonite Church in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow in the Southern Magnolia Mennonite Church cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Minister Roger Smith will officiate.

Kim Klug
December 23, 1973 - May 23, 2013
Kim Klug, 39, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Thursday, May 23, 2013. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Joey Klug of DeRidder, La; son, Joseph Mote of DeRidder, LA; daughters, Kendra Shaw and Grace Cole.

Richard Craig Cornwell, 54, of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at his home. Richard worked in the forestry industry for 37 years. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kathy Cornwell of Merryville; sons, Patrick Cornwell of Sulphur, LA and Richard Brad Cornwell of Merryville, LA; daughter, Sara Beard and husband Chuckie of Merryville, LA; mother, Arlene Cornwell of Merryville, LA; brothers, Curtis Cornwell and wife Julia of Merryville, LA, David Cornwell and wife Mary of Merryville, LA and Bobby Cornwell of DeRidder, LA; sisters, Linda Miers and husband Tommy of DeRidder, LA, Debbie Cornwell of Spring, TX, Patsy Sellers and husband Don of Kaplan, La and Candace Rucker and husband Chris of Hackberry, LA; and grandson, Carson Beard. He was preceded in death by his father, Lynn Cornwell.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 24, 2013 beginning at 5:00pm at Boxwood Church of Christ in Bivens, LA. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 10:00am at Boxwood Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Bivens cemetery. Bro. Doug Brackbill will officiate.

James Earl Ambler

James Earl Ambler, 81, of Rosepine, LA, passed from this life on Saturday, May 18, 2013. Those left to cherish his memory are his brothers, Bill Ambler and wife Jeanette of DeRidder, LA and Lawrence Ambler of Nacogdoches, TX; grandchildren, Brittany Aten and husband Kenneth of Lake Havasu City, AZ and Candace Fowles and husband Jared of Cedar City, UT; great grandchildren, Lily Ann Aten, James Earl Aten, Dakota Zoe Fowles and one on the way. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Nell Hammontree; his parents, Frank and Sibbie Ambler; son, Jimmy Ambler, Jr.; daughter, Cathy Lou Ambler; and son, Robbie Ambler.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2013 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013 at 11:00am at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Rosepine cemetery in Rosepine, LA.

Harvey Lee "Nick" Reeves

Harvey Lee “Nick” Reeves, 87, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Tuesday, May 21, 2013. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Doris Reeves of DeRidder, La; son, Tommy Reeves and wife Dena of DeRidder, LA; daughters, Charlene Donovan and husband Jim of Webster, TX, Deborah Reeves of DeRidder, LA, Karen Sue Tuma of Cleveland, TX and Lisa Hardy and husband Dale of Dayton, TX; 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Octavia Reeves, 6 brothers and 1 sister.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 from 5pm until 10pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 2pm at First Apostolic Church in Moss Bluff, LA. Burial will follow at Creel cemetery in Topsy, LA. Bro. Lyle will officiate.

Rex Brumley, Sr.
October 3, 1934 - May 18, 2013
Rex G. Brumley, Sr. 78, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at his residence in DeRidder. Rex was born in DeRidder, October 3, 1934, to Gaston and Jewel Wooley Brumley. He was reared by his grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Strother Wooley and aunt, Icey Wooley Hall. Rex loved his family and is survived by his wife of 44 1/2years, Juanita Miller Brumley; two sons, Rex Brumley, Jr. and wife Lois, of Ocean View, Hawaii, Robert Brumley and wife Sherrie, of DeRidder; two daughters, Robin Rhodes and Beth Duggar and husband Warren, all of DeRidder; 10 grandchildren: David Brumley, Ja Nae White, Fae Lambdin, Phillip Paul Lambdin, Tyler Brumley, Melody Seal and husband David, Cody Rhodes, Logan Brice, Warren Dugger II and Samantha Dugger; 8 great grandchildren, Colby and Wade White, Kennedy and Kailee Daniel, Caden and Caleb Strange and Bradley and Jada Seal. Rex is also survived by one brother, Bobby Ray Blackwell and wife Janetta, of Comanche, TX, half-brother, Billy Brumley and wife Gloria, of Mansfield, LA and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, Fountain Pitts Wooley and Mary Elizabeth Strother Wooley, his aunt, Icey Wooley Hall; two brothers, Clifton Brumley and Benny Falcon; two sisters, June Brumley Weeks and Shirley Blackwell Barton and half sister, Sandra Brumley Utsey.

Rex served in the United States Air Force from November 21, 1952 until his honorable discharge on September 14, 1956. He was in the 49th Inst. Squadron. He was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base, Chennault in Lake Charles and Masawa, Japan. His unit was sent to Seoul, Korea where their mission was to build roads in the mountains around Seoul. His papers were lost and he was never given credit for serving in Korea. Of his military service, he said he wouldn’t take a million dollars for his experiences, but wouldn’t give 2 cents to go back.
Rex had a lot of firsts in his life. He was the first DeRidder City Policeman to graduate from the LSU Law Enforcement Academy; he organized and directed the first Beauregard Parish Police Reserve under Sheriff Paul Stark. Rex received the first Public Service Award from the DeRidder Jaycees. He was the first Louisiana Roads Scholar to be elected a parish police juror. Rex was elected to two terms as a Beauregard District 3C juror. Rex was a two-time Past Master of DeRidder Lodge #271 and was also a member of Sam Todd Lodge #182 in Sugartown. He was a member of Habibi Temple in Lake Charles and Southwest Shrine Club in DeRidder. He held a Gold Certificate of Proficiency from the Grand Lodge of the State of Louisiana, and had performed over 35 Masonic burial services. Rex never met a stranger. He enjoyed being with people. He especially enjoyed the coffee-shop crowd. He was employed at Fort Polk with the Cubic program. Rex was excited and was anxious to begin his next tour of duty with the group of men and women he had grown to love. Rex loved Grace Church, it’s members and his pastors, Rev. George Lee Glass, Rev. George L. Glass, Jr. and Rev. James Glass, who will all have a part in the service.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 21, 2013 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Grace Church in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 12:00pm at Grace Church. Interment will follow at Beauregard cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons and special friends of Rex: Merlin Schales, Raymond Gragg, Tommy Brown, Roger Moses and
Tim Hodges.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace Building Fund.

Mark Higginbotham
June 11, 1969 - May 12, 2013

Mark Higginbotham, 43, of Bon Wier, TX, passed from this life on Sunday, May 12, 2013 in Alexandria, LA. Those left to cherish his memory are his mother and stepfather, Susie and Don Low of Bon Wier, TX; sons, Markous W. Purdy Jr. and Timothy Purdy of DeRidder, LA; daughters, Maranda Purdy of Bon Wier, TX and LeeAnn Hughes of Houston, TX; brothers, Keith Higginbotham of Bon Wier, TX, Tristan Herrington of Bon Wier, TX, Jed Low of Jacksonville, TX, Jay Low of Midland, TX, Ben Low of Ingram, TX and Mark Ashworth of Bon Wier, TX; sister, Wanda Morgan of Pocahontas, AR; grandchildren, Cali Hughes of Houston, TX and Braxton Purdy of Raleigh, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his father, Hildred Higginbotham.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 from 5:00 until 10:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 10:00am at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Pastor Perfecto Serna and Kyle May will officiate.

Albert Spikes
May 20, 1926 - May 13, 2013
Albert Spikes, 86, of DeRidder, LA passed from this life on Monday, May 13, 2013.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Douglas Spikes and Keith Lynn Spikes, both of DeRidder, LA; daughters, Linda Grantham of Sulphur, LA and Jackie Schmidt of DeRidder, LA; sisters, Velma Henderson of Cuba, AL and Iris Byrd of DeRidder, LA; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arie and Ida Spikes; wife, Adas Lee Perkins Spikes; sons, Albert Allen Spikes and Gary Don Spikes.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 from 5:00pm until 10:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at 2:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow at Merryville cemetery in Merryville, LA. Rev. Jerome Goldwire
January 11, 1943 - May 9, 2013
Jerome Goldwire was born in Guyton, Georgia on January 11, 1943, to the late Copper Goldwire and Carrie Holmes. He was the older of two children. Jerome married the late Barbara Jean Goldwire and to this union two sons were born. Together they raised six children. Jerome was united in holy wedlock to Sharon Miller Goldwire on January 8, 2000. Jerome and Sharon raised three children together.

Jerome accepted the Lord in 1974. He went on to become Pastor of Anders Temple Church of God In Christ in DeRidder, Louisiana. Jerome served God with dignity and enthusiasm. His last church home was the Compassionate Church of Jesus Christ in DeRidder. Jerome also served our country for over twenty-four years in the United States Army. He reached the rank of First Sergeant (E-8) and completed two overseas tours in Vietnam, two tours in Germany and one tour in Saudi Arabia. Jerome retired from the Army in 1991 with numerous awards which included the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Ribbon and the Combat Infantry Badge.

Jerome departed this life on May 9, 2013. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Sharon Goldwire; his mother, Carrie (Japan) Holmes; sons, Carl (Jeanette) Clark of Leesville, Matthew (Regina) Goldwire of Clarksville, TN, Mark (Tonya) Goldwire of DeRidder, and Steven Lewis of DeRidder; daughters, Denise (Radumnes) Villa of Kileen, TX, Tamara Owens of Killeen, TX, Sonya Sample of Chesapeake, VA, Angela Wright of DeRidder and Alesia (Shawn) Estis of DeRidder; brothers, Al Goldwire of Savannah, GA, Japan (Patricia) Holmes of Savannah, GA, Bernard (Debra) Holmes of Jacksonville, FL, Calvin (Loraine) Holmes of Fredericksburg, VA; special sister, Linda (Amos) Richardson of Zwolle, LA; special brothers, George Williams of New Jersey, Paul (Barbara) Cado of DeRidder, George (Ruth) Edwards of Fairfield, TX; adopted son, Reginald (Sonya) McCoy of Morton, MS; adopted daughter, Ashley Glover of Beaumont, TX; goddaughter, Jerry Evans of Zwolle, LA; uncle, James (Gladys) Goldwire of Pooler, GA; aunts, Flossie Charles of Savannah, GA and Thelma Hart of Savannah, GA; 24 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; special friends, Hebert Majors and Leon Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other special friends.

Burial will follow at Central Louisiana Veterans cemetery in Leesville, LA. Superintendent, Maurice Johnson will officiate.

June 27, 1923 - May 10, 2013
Myra Marie Arledge, 89, of Merryville, LA passed from this life on Friday, May 10, 2013. Myra was born a wild child on June 27, 1923. Those left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Wendy Susanne Willoughby of DeRidder, LA and Mary Myra Gaines, who serves in the United States Air Force; great grandsons, Cody Thor Glenn of DeRidder, LA and Michael Anthony Maddox of DeRidder, LA; great granddaughter, Savannah Buford of Texas. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Judy Fletcher and son, Johnny Fletcher.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 13, 2013 at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA from 6:00pm until 9:00pm. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 10:00am also at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Meadows cemetery in Merryville, LA.
