Virginia Horneman Allen
(September 20, 1925 - April 1, 2012)

Bradley, AR/Plain Dealing, LA - Virginia Horneman Allen, 86, passed away April 1, 2012 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was born September 20, 1925 in Plain Dealing, Louisiana to Oliver Lawrence and Hattie Markham Horneman.

Virginia spent the early years of her life in Plain Dealing. As a young woman, during WWII, she worked for the FBI in Washington, DC. Following the war, she returned to Plain Dealing and married Charles G. Allen of Bradley, AR. They had one son, Charles G. “Gib” Allen. She was an active member of Bradley Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years and later served the church as secretary. During her life she was a secretary for Bradley Schools, Lusk Chevrolet in Plain Dealing, and Charles G. Allen Construction.

Mrs. Allen is survived by three grandsons, Kyh Allen and wife, Lauren of Shreveport, LA, Landon Allen and fiancée, Ashley Travis of College Station, TX, Jeremy Allen of New Braunfels, TX; four sisters, Marilyn Collins of Plano, TX, Marihelen Horneman of Bossier City, Madeline Anderson and husband, Charles of Bossier City, Winona Authement of Plain Dealing; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Allen Bishop of Bradley, AR and Mary Helen Horneman of Bossier City; brother-in-law, Baxter Arnold of Sterling, CO; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles G. Allen; son, Charles G. "Gib" Allen, Jr.; and brother, Robert "Bob" Horneman.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, April 5, 2012, at the Walnut Hill Cemetery, Bradley, AR, with Bro. Aaron Leggett officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Plain Dealing, LA. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2012 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Bradley Baptist Church, Bradley, AR.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Arkansas Baptist Children’s Home or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Olene Watson Sawyer
(August 2, 1913 - March 25, 2012)

Funeral service for Mrs. Olene Watson Sawyer, age 98, will be held Friday, March 30, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Everett officiating. Interment will follow in Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.

Family will receive friends beginning Thursday at 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.

Mrs. Sawyer was born August 2, 1913 in Bernice, LA to Lester and Evvie Watson and passed away Sunday, March 25, 2012 in Bossier City, LA. She was the oldest of seven children. Mrs. Sawyer moved to Springhill during the mid 1930’s and was the oldest active member of Central Baptist Church at the time of her death. During her life in Springhill, she was involved in business and civic groups in the community. Mrs. Sawyer enjoyed cooking and sharing many delicious meals with family and friends. She was healthy and active and her mind and memory remained sharp until an illness approximately two months prior to her death. Mrs. Sawyer always said “rocking chairs are the downfall of older people”.

She is survived by her son, Jerry Sawyer of Lake Erling, AR; daughter, Sandra Hamil and husband, Wray of Sugar Land, TX; grandchildren, David Sawyer and wife, Leslie of Aliso Viejo, CA; Greg Starks and wife, Rona of Sugar Land, TX; great grandchildren, Shay Sawyer, Lindsay Sawyer, Courtney Starks; sister, Jimmie Swackhammer of Fort Worth, TX and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Sawyer was married to her husband, Shay Sawyer for 53 years until his death in 1990; she was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Kay Sawyer and her siblings, Myrtle Tubbs, W.C. Watson, G.W. Watson, Virginia Pollard and Martha Noe.

Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Colley, Robert Colley, Jerry Stephens, Dr. Wayne McMahen, Ron Aycock and James Colvin.

Betty Faye Kenner Jones

May 13, 1931 - January 14, 2013

Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Faye Keener Jones, age 81, will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, January 17, 2013, in New Sarepta Baptist Church, Sarepta, LA, with Rev. Doyle Hales and Rev. Marty Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Bistineau Baptist Church Cemetery, Heflin, LA under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2013, 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jones was born on May 13, 1931 to John and Maggie Wynn Keener in Ida, LA and passed away on January 14, 2013 in Shreveport, LA. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church, a homemaker, and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. No matter how bad things got for her, she always had a positive outlook, provided words of encouragement with a sweet smile to all she encountered. She was affectionately known as "Ninny".

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Arnold Dean Jones; two daughters, Vickie Cullen and husband, John of Haughton, LA, Shelia Robertson and husband, Glenn of Sarepta, LA; two sons, Arnold Dean Jones Jr. of Heflin, LA, John Jeffrey Jones of Sarepta, LA; ten grandchildren, Amy Bustamento and husband, Shane of Benton, LA, Kristina Hatfield and husband, Heath of Shreveport, LA, Angela Herrick and husband, Kelly of Sarepta, LA, Stacey Martin and husband, Jason of Sarepta, LA, Scott Robertson of Sarepta, LA, Stephanie Graham and husband, Brian of Shreveport, LA, Andrea Neal and husband, Brandon of Sarepta, LA, John Jeffrey Jones Jr. of Sarepta, LA, Devanie Jones of Sarepta, LA, Kane Jones of Sarepta, LA; fourteen great-grandchildren, Brittany Henson, Hunter Henson, Kody Herrick, Lily Herrick, Collin Robertson, Hannah Poston, Colton Poston, Gracie Hatfield, Chance Hatfield, Sean Graham, Katelyn Graham, Breelynn Graham, Garrett Neal, Mason Neal and five nephews, Andy Brinkley, Mark Brinkley, Mike Brinkley and wife, Karen, James Keener, David Keener.

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jimmy Keener and sister, Gaye Nell Brinkley.

Pallbearers will be George Donald O'Glee, Pat Modisette, James Whaley, J.B. Vaughan, Larry Malone and Jack Thompson. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Clyde Green, C.C. Cox, Bill Hearn, Tommy Vaughan, Harold Newsom, E.L. Edwards and Harold Palmer

Hughey Eads, JR
March 19, 1933 - January 13, 2013

Hughey Eads, Jr, 79, of Magnolia, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013 at the Veteran's Hospital in Little Rock. He was born March 19, 1933 in Village, AR to the late Hughey and Emma Eads. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He worked for Loomis Testing, Gillespie Well Service and Santa Fe Drilling Co. After leaving the oilfield, he owned and operated Magnolia Battery Manufacturing for the past 25 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers Percy Eads, Dale Eads and Larson Eads, and sister, Helen Ainsworth.

Survivors include wife Marion Janette; children, Janice and Jerrel Johnson, Rhonda and Paul Voss, Gary and Carolyn Eads, Sandy Clark, Vicki and Alan Stewart, Lisa and David Billingsley, and Scott and Stacy Eads; sister, Elizabeth Melleby; 19 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren.

Jr. enjoyed his fellowship time at the First Assembly of God in Springhill, LA. He lived his life giving generously to family, friends and strangers, bringing to mind the verse, Matthew 10:42, "And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward".

Visitation will be from 5-8pm Tuesday January 15, 2013 at Bailey Funeral Home in Magnolia.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Lamartine, AR. Burial will follow at Shiloh Lamartine Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to First Assembly of God, 808 Reynolds St. Springhill, LA.71075.

Shelby Jean Dominique

June 20, 1940 - January 9, 2013

Funeral services for Mrs. Shelby Jean Dominique, age 72, will be held Friday, January 11, 2013 at 10:00 AM in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel, Cotton Valley, LA with Rev. Kenneth DeHart officiating. Interment will follow in Cotton Valley Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Cotton Valley, LA.

Visitation will begin Friday at 8:30 AM until time of service.

Mrs. Dominique was born June 20, 1940 in Spearsville, LA to Harvey and Olive Burden Watson and passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2013 in Shreveport, LA. She was a lifelong resident of Cotton Valley, a member of Unity Baptist Church and was retired from the Webster Parish School Board with 25 years of service.

She is survived by her son, Gregg Alan Ebard and brother, Kenneth Watson and wife, Dell, whom was a special sister, of West Monroe, LA.

Mrs. Dominique was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph Earl Dominique and brother, Paul Watson.

Friends will serve as pallbearers.

Edith Earline Baker Souter

November 11, 1917 - January 10, 2013

Funeral services for Mrs. Edith Baker Souter, age 95, will be held Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 10:00 AM in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel, Springhill, with Rev. Ronald Morgan officiating and the graveside eulogy by Evangelist Phillip Baker. Interment will follow in Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.

Visitation will begin Friday, January 11, 2013 at 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Mrs. Souter was born November 11, 1917 in Haynesville, LA to Virgil and Etta Hardaway Crow and passed away Thursday, January 10, 2013 in Springhill, LA. She was a former resident of Taylor, AR and a resident of Springhill for many years. Mrs. Souter was a faithful member of First Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.

She is survived by son, John Howard Baker of Ruston, LA; grandsons, Evangelist Phillip Baker and wife, Laura, Eric Baker and wife, Leah; step-grandson, Dr. Wayne McMahen and wife, Beverly; great grandchildren, Erica Baker, Keegan Baker, Madison Baker, McKinley Baker; great step-grandchildren, Stuart McMahen, Megan Colvin and husband, Matt, Marci McMahen; great great step-granddaughter, Landry Kate Colvin; many special nieces and nephews, including Richard Baker and wife, Rosemary of Sarepta, LA, Harry McLeod and wife of Houston, TX, Dianne McLeod of Las Cruces, NM, Susan Law of Conroe, TX and a loving sister-in-law, Madge Holloway of Springhill, LA.

Mrs. Souter was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, John Howard Baker, Sr., Nesbit Souter; one brother and four sisters.

Honoring her as pallbearers will be Phillip Allison, James Burns, Lynn Lee, Gerald White, Crawford Williams and Bobby McLain.
