Funeral services for Mrs. Vernell Gumm Edwards, age 82, will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. at the First United Pentecostal Church, Cotton Valley, LA, with Rev. Kenneth DeHart officiating. Interment will follow in the Cotton Valley Cemetery, under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Cotton Valley, LA.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 13, 2013 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the First United Pentecostal Church in Cotton Valley, LA.

Mrs. Edwards was born on March 16, 1931 to Earl and Bennie Bulla Gumm in Diboll, TX and passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013 in Minden, LA. She was a former resident of Springhill and was member of the First United Methodist Church in Cotton Valley. She was a homemaker and is preceded in death by per parents; her husbands, Oscar Vency Taylor and Graham Barr Edwards; a sister, Mildred Roberts and brother, Robert Gumm.

She is survived by her sons, Dennis Ray Taylor and wife, Melanie of Willis, TX; Richard Lee Taylor and wife, Peggy of Minden, LA; Norman Vency Taylor of Cotton Valley, LA; and David Wayne Taylor of Springhill, LA; grandchildren, Eric Taylor, Steven Taylor and wife, Melony, Randi Rause, Rhonda Taylor, Jeremy Taylor, Jennifer Taylor, Ricky Taylor and Cody Robins.

James N. "Munchie" Holtzclaw
September 29, 1961 - May 9, 2013

Funeral services for James N. "Munchie" Holtzclaw, age 51, will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, May 12, 2013 at Unity Baptist Church with Rev. Cecil Marr and Rev. Gene Gipson officiating. Burial will be in the Cotton Valley Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Cotton Valley, LA.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Saturday at Unity Baptist Church in Cotton Valley, LA.

Munchie was born on September 29, 1961 to James "Tootum" and Rebecca Ann Salley Holtzclaw in Shreveport, LA and passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at his home in Cotton Valley. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church - he loved his church and music. Munchie never met a stranger and loved everybody. He touched many people in his lifetime and attended the SPAR Center in Sarepta. He was a collector of trains, tractors and other equipment.

Munchie is survived by his parents, brothers, John Holtzclaw and wife, Donna Kaye of Shongaloo, LA; Tod Holtzclaw and wife, Anna of Memphis, TN; nephews, Hayden and Jes; niece, Caroline and a host of friends and other loved ones.

Pallbearers will be Mike Holtzclaw, Chris Holtzclaw, Brandon Holtzclaw, Tony Holtzclaw, Jason Taylor and Robert Salley. Honorary pallbearers will be Al Taylor, Brady Holtzclaw, Brock Holtzclaw and Rodney Thrash.

The family wishes to express special thanks to his caregivers, Connie Pearson, Lucille Jackson, Christine Carter and Jeanie Wells and Elizabeth Applegate and the staff of Gamble Hospice for their love and care. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the SPARC Center at Sarepta or donor's choice.

Raymond Andrew Clifton
February 15, 1934 - May 18, 2013

Springhill, LA - Graveside services for Mr. Raymond Andrew Clifton, age 79, will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, May 20, 2013, at the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Doddridge, AR, with Bro. Jesse Dickison officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.

Visitation will be held Sunday, May 19, 2013 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the funeral homr.

Mr. Clifton was born on February 15, 1934 to James Willie and Ruth Johnson Clifton in Atlanta, TX and passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2013 in Springhill, LA. He was a retired millwright and he loved to hunt.

He is survived by his son, David Jones and wife, Carol of Yukon, OK; sister, Joyce Johnson of Revana, AR; brothers, Horace Clifton and wife, Linda of Mooringsport, LA, James Clifton and wife, Charlotte of Oil City, LA, and Richie Clifton and wife, Shelia of Sarepta, LA.

Mr. Clifton was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Christine Lloyd Clifton; son, Danny Jones; brother, Earl Clifton; sister, Geneva Clifton; step-mother, Sweetie Belle Clifton.

Marjorie B. "Margie" Franklin

September 1, 1923 - July 3, 2011

Funeral services for Marjorie Bigelow Kyle Franklin, age 87, will be held at 3:30 P.M. Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at the Plain Dealing Church of Christ with Bro. Waymon Swain officiating. Burial will be in the Plain Dealing Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Plain Dealing.

Visitation will be Tuesday 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Plain Dealing.

Mrs. Franklin, a former longtime resident of Plain Dealing, died Sunday, July 3, 2011 in Ashdown, AR where she had made her home the past year. She was a member of the Plain Dealing Church of Christ and was a homemaker. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Orville Kyle and Richard Franklin; son, Frank Kyle; a grandson, Sergio Gamez, a brother and a sister.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Jo Gamez and husband, Paul of San Antonio, TX; sons, Jimmie Kyle and wife, Shirley of Ashdown, AR; Lynn Franklin and wife, Chris of Texarkana, AR; Bruce Franklin of Plain Dealing, LA; daughter-in-law, Janet Kyle of Baton Rouge, LA; foster daughter, Jannett Sims and husband, Wayne of Newton, AL;16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Ms. Kay Stevens Gipson, age 65, will be held Friday, November 16, 2012 at 10:00 AM in Central Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Everett officiating. Interment will follow in Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA

Visitation will begin Thursday at 5:00PM until 7:00PM at the funeral home.

Ms. Gipson was born June 17, 1947 in Springhill, LA to William D. and Maxine Matthews Stevens and passed away November 13, 2012 in Shreveport, LA. She was a lifelong resident of this area, a faithful member of Central Baptist Church and a loving mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. Ms. Gipson was a Springhill High School graduate of the class of 1965 and was loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by her sons, Brandon Gipson and wife, Diana of Springhill, Brian Gipson and wife, Kimberly of Prescott, AR; grandchildren, Tyler, Gwyn, Tanner and Nathan; mother, Maxine Matthews Stevens of Springhill; sister, Beth Smith of Nacogdoches, TX; brother, William “Bill” Stevens, Jr and wife, Kathy of Alexandria, LA and several nieces and nephews.

Ms. Gipson was preceded in death by her father.

Funeral services for Mr. Bobby Jack Basham, age 79, will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, August 27, 2012, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel, Springhill, LA with Dr. Charles Payne officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Branch Cemetery, Taylor, AR under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, Louisiana.

Visitation will be held Sunday, August 26, 2012 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.

Mr. Basham was born on November 25, 1932 to Robert "Bob" Wallace and Alma Zimmerman Basham in Springhill, LA and passed away on August 24, 2012 in Springhill, LA . He was a lifelong resident of Springhill and a salesman for Armour Packing, Sanitary Dairy and Bill and Ralph's. Mr. Basham raised Quail, enjoyed wood working, gardening and was a past member of the Springhill Ham Radio Club.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan Bandy Basham; daughter, Barbara Giddings of Springhill, LA; grandson, Brayden W. Cheatham of Shongaloo, LA; son-in-law, Buddy Cheatham of Shongaloo, LA; sister,Virginia Adair and husband, James of Springhill, LA and nephew, Robert Burns and wife, Tina of Gilmer, TX.

Mr. Basham was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary Margaret Basham Cheatham; son-in-law, Donnie Joe Giddings; brother-in-law, Winfred Burns and nephew, Andy Burns.

Graveside services for Mrs. Gearldine Cole Lewis, age 82, will be held Friday, September 28, 2012 at 2:00 PM in Jolley Cemetery with eulogy by family members. Interment will follow under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.

Visitation will begin Thursday at 5:30 pm until 7:30 pm at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lewis was born September 3, 1930 in Junction City, AR to Walter and Fannie Mae McCoy Cole and passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2012 in Minden, LA. She had been a resident of Minden since 1961, was a member of Lakeview Methodist Church, Minden, LA, and a retired clerk for Minden Hardware.

She is survived by her daughter, Ilene L. Patrick and husband, William “Pat”; grandchildren, Kelly A Satterwhite and husband, Allen, William Wade Patrick and wife, Mandie; great granddaughter, Audrey Jane Patrick; devoted younger brother, Clarence Ray “Sonny” Cole and wife, Annie; sister-in-law, Charlene Cole, all of Minden, LA and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Trinton W. Lewis on February 12, 2006; brothers, Charles, Gordy and Edmund Cole and sisters, Mamie Cole and Claire Robinson.
