Joy Lynn Whittington Anderson

November 6, 1932 - November 7, 2012

Graveside services for Joy Whittington Anderson, age 80, will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, November 9, 2012 in the Summerfield Cemetery, Summerfield, LA with Rev. Shelby Cowling officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Haynesville, LA

Family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 AM Friday at Bailey Funeral Home, Haynesville, LA.

Ms. Anderson was born November 6, 1932 in Summerfield, LA to Orno and Betty Williamson Whittington and passed away November 7, 2012 in Homer, LA. She was a lifelong resident of this area, a member of First Baptist Church, Haynesville and a homemaker. Ms. Anderson was a nursing aid in home health for many years and loved to quilt. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister.

She is survived by her son John Anthony Anderson of Nashville, TN; daughter, Carol Binding and husband, Ron of Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Jordan Goertz, Hannah Goertz, Taylor Binding, Kelly Binding, sister, Earsie Shirey of Summerfield, LA and a host of nieces and nephews.

Ms. Anderson was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Amy Marie Goertz and sister, Louise Festervan.

Serving as pallbearers will be Henry Arant, Gene Arant, Wayne Arant, Jordan Goertz, John Anderson and Terry Shirey.

Bailey Funeral Home - Haynesville, LA

Mildred Pharr Rogers

June 10, 1926 - October 25, 2012

Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred Pharr Rogers, age 86, will be held Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Triplet officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Haynesville, LA.

Visitation will begin Friday at 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funereal home.

Mrs. Rogers was born June 10, 1926 in Emerson, AR to Dewey Cleo and Gladys Hines Pharr and passed away October 25, 2012 in Haynesville, LA. She was a lifelong resident of this area, a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Shongaloo, LA and a homemaker. Mrs. Rogers was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She is survived by daughters, Sandra Kay Triplet and husband, Danny of Haynesville, LA, Jimmie Oletta Cole and husband, Dwayne of McCool, MS; son-in-law, Dellas Hanson of Springhill, LA; grandchildren, Todd Hanson and wife, Becky, James Cole and wife, Lynn, Tiffiny Pitre and husband, Brian, Kellye Ogle and husband, Bryan; Tim Hanson, Lana Williamson, April Voss and husband, Paul; Oletta Watson and husband, Jeffery and great grandchildren, Zack, Colby, Brayden, Ethan, Conner, Addison, Madison, Jake, Zoe, Hayden and Brenden.

Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tremon L. Rogers and daughters, Brenda Hanson and Ginger Williamson.

Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be great grandsons.

Preston Lamar Howard
September 29, 1956 - August 16, 2012

Funeral services for Preston Lamar Howard, age 55, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 19, 2012 at the New Sarepta Baptist Church with Rev. LaVaughn Landry officiating. Burial will be in the Cotton Valley Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, at Bailey Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held at Second Baptist Church in Katy, TX Friday, August 24, 2012.

Mr. Howard was born September 29, 1956 to Thomas Ray and Shirley Cox Howard in Pine Bluff, AR and died Thursday, August 16, 2012 in Centerville, MS. He was a native of Sarepta and was a resident of Houston, TX for 20 years. He was a member and deacon of Second Baptist Church in Katy, TX; was self-employed in the oil and gas business. He was an avid pilot, hunter, scuba diver and loved to restore motorcycles and cars. He enjoyed gardening, machining and making his own tools. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather and the hardest working man his family knew.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Michelle Boulet Howard of Katy, TX; sons, Preston Lamar Howard II and wife, Jenny of Pearland, TX; David Patrick Howard and wife, Tiffany of Houston, TX; daughter, Mary Denise Borrego and husband, Brian of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Madison and Mylam; his mother, Mrs. Shirley Cox Howard; sister, Renee Howard; brother, Tony Howard and wife, Amy, all of Sarepta, LA and a host of other family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his father and brother, Chris.

Serving as pallbearers will be Hershel White, Mike McCullen, Colwin Howard, Carl Sayers, Donnie Weil and Justin Johnson.

Bailey Funeral Home - Springhill, LA

Johnnie Ardis Nickerson

August 14, 1915 - April 6, 2011

Funeral services for Mr. Johnnie Ardis Nickerson, age 95, will be held Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel, Springhill, LA with Rev. Andy Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.

Visitation will begin Friday at 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Bailey Funeral Home.

Mr. Nickerson was born August 14, 1915 in Cullen, LA (known as Clifford at that time) to John Martin and Cora Coyle Nickerson and passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2011 in Whitehouse, TX following a brief illness. He lived most of his life in the Springhill area until September of 2004 when he and wife, Opal decided to make Whitehouse, TX their home. Mr. Nickerson retired from International Paper Company after 35 years of service and attended Assembly of God Church; served as deacon and worked many years as custodian at Cullen Assembly of God Church. He was a helper to pastors and spent much of his time helping to build and maintain churches in Cullen/Sarepta area. Mr. Nickerson enjoyed gardening, always had a huge garden and shared his bounty with those he loved. Even now he had tomato and pepper plants in his back yard in pots. He loved to watch things grow.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 22 years, Opal Souter Nickerson of Whitehouse, TX; his daughter, Ellen Kay Smith and her husband, Ben of Sarepta, LA; grandson, Morgan Smith of Springhill, LA; stepsons, Charles Souter and wife, Marcia of Tyler, TX, Gary Souter and wife, Deborah of Tyler, TX; step-grandson, Kyle Souter of Tyler, TX; step-granddaughter, Lindsay Thomas and husband, Dylan of Tyler, TX; step-great granddaughter, Kylie Souter, Tyler, TX and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Mr. Nickerson was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Thelma Pafford, Syble Orr; brothers, Curtis and Calvin Nickerson; wife of 49 years, Ernestine Morgan Nickerson on April 3, 1987 and son, Jerry Wayne Nickerson on May 6, 2006.

Pallbearers will be Billy Nickerson, Alan Nickerson, Daniel Nickerson, Dennis Hood, Greg Pafford, John Pafford, Ben Gresham and John Nickerson. Honorary pallbearers will be Rod Pafford, James Pafford, Billy Gene Orr, Morgan Smith, Kyle Souter and Dylan Thomas.

Wanda Johnson Stinson

October 18, 1933 - November 24, 2012

Funeral services celebrating the life of Wanda Johnson Stinson, 79, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Cotton Valley, LA. Officiating will be Reverend Frank DeLoach of Cornerstone Baptist and Dr. Pat Day of First United Methodist Church of Shreveport. Interment will follow in Cotton Valley Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday November 26, 2012 at Bailey Funeral Home in Springhill.

Wanda was born October 18, 1933 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to William Leslie Johnson and Doris Helen Goggans Johnson. She moved to Cotton Valley at the age of 15. She was a graduate of Cotton Valley High School and Louisiana Tech University, where she earned a Bachelors and a Masters Degree in education.

Wanda had many passions. She loved God, her family, and friends and perhaps most importantly her school children. She taught 2nd and 4th grades in Springhill, LA for 54 years. She always asked for the most difficult children in the class because she was convinced that she could “love” them into better behavior. She taught hundreds of children to believe in themselves, to strive for their best, to dance the “Virginia Reel” and to love Where the Red Fern Grows. Wanda Stinson was a life changer.

“Mam,” as she lovingly known by her granddaughters was passionate about them. She embraced her role as grandmother with pride. She spent her last day on this earth with her girls doing all the things she loved most… visiting, telling stories, treating them to Icees and sour straws and encouraging them. Wanda Stinson was a life changer.

Wanda was passionate about her beloved husband, Buddy. They were an incredible “team” for 65 years. They met when she was 15 years old and she knew she had found her soulmate.

She was passionate about motherhood. She believed it to be the most important job in the world. She never stopped encouraging, believing or supporting her daughter. Wanda Stinson was a life changer.

She was preceeded in death by her parents her brother Harold W. Johnson and her sister Joan Leslie Johnson. Left to cherish beautiful memories of Wanda is her beloved husband of 58 years, Rufus Benjamin “Buddy” Stinson, daughter Waynette S. Ballengee of Shreveport and granddaughters Jordan Elizabeth Sandefur of Houston, Texas and Morgan Stinson Ballengee of Shreveport.

Honoring Wanda as pallbearers will be Bob Colvin, John Slattery, Jimmy Ratliff, DeWayne Stanley, Ted Souter, Andrew Dalton, Jim Hall and Scott Danvers. Honorary pallbearers will be all of her former students.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Springhill Medical Center, the MICU nursing staff at LSUMC, Dr. Robert Barrish and Dr. Anil Nanda.

Donations honoring her life may be sent to Cornerstone Baptist Church, Vacation Bible School Fund, the Gingerbread House or the charity of choice.
