Claudia Kay Gibson Goodwin

July 10, 1947 - August 13, 2012

Claudia Gibson Goodwin, 65, of Lake Claiborne, Louisiana, joined the heavenly chorus on August 13, 2012. Claudia was born July 10, 1947, in Urania, Louisiana, and spent her early years in Tullos, where she acquired her musical ability sitting on the piano stool between her mother on the ivorys and her daddy on the guitar. After moving to Haynesville, Claudia graduated from Haynesville High in 1965 and attended NSU and LTU. But no matter what her job, music was the love of her life, and her hand was always on the keyboard. Over the years, she taught piano lessons, served as accompanist and/or music director at several area churches, directed a hand bell choir, and served as Youth Director. Claudia dearly loved accompanying concerts of the Minden Community Chorus.

Claudia was predeceased by her parents, Kathren and Claude Gibson. Survivors include daughters Lark Goodwin Cowan and Piper Goodwin Caskey, son-in-law Jeff, and grandchildren Katelyn Smith, Jenna, and Cannon Caskey; sister, Daphne Gibson McLeod, brother-in-law Bob, nephew Jed Edwards, and great-nephew Will Edwards; brother, Jon Gibson, sister-in-law Mary Beth, niece, Erin Gibson Faherty and husband Randy, and great-nephew Jake; Robert Goodwin, father of her children and beloved friends, Mary Triplet, Clair Traylor, Kim Lay, Wanda Merritt and Carole Guenther.

Pallbearers were Jeff Caskey, Ty Cowan, Randy Faherty, Bob Lurry, Terry Triplet, and Bill Traylor. Honorary pallbearers were Russell Mills, John Tomlinson and Rance Tomlinson.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Clint Butler, Dr. Sam Abshire, and the compassionate staff at Homer Memorial Hospital and LifeCare Speciality Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM, Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at United Methodist Church in Haynesville, LA. Visitation will take place from 5-7 PM, Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at Bailey Funeral Home in Haynesville, LA. Revs. Andrew Abshire and Danny Triplet will officiate. Special music will be performed by Brett Traylor, Dan Gibbs, and Minden Community Choir. Burial will take place at 2 PM, Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at Magnolia Cemetery, Tullos, LA.

William Clinton Holly

March 6, 1926 - November 3, 2012

William Clinton Holly, 86, of Haynesville, Louisiana passed away on November 3, 2012. Better known as “Pete” to his friends and relatives, he was born March 6, 1926 in Emerson, Arkansas to James Olen and Jewel Hooks Holly. William was a proud WWII Army veteran serving active duty in France and Germany. He was a POW in Germany, captured at the Battle of the Bulge in February 1945 and liberated in April 1945.

He married his high-school sweetheart, Ida Maude Benefield, in 1946 and relocated to Haynesville where the couple settled, raised a family and became lifelong members of the community. He established a restaurant business which he operated for 27 years. Among his greatest gifts were William’s generous spirit and his witty sense of humor. He was a beloved husband and father who will be dearly missed.

William is preceded in death by his son, Dannie Harold Holly; great-grandson, Adam Hidalgo; and his brother, Benny Holly. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ida Maude. He is also survived by his loving children, Peggy Williams (husband J.R.), Margie Kaluza (husband Paul) and Donald Holly (wife Lisa), as well as eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Houston Holly, and his sister, Melba Benefield.

Visitation and funeral services will be held at Bailey Funeral Home in Haynesville. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 Monday, November 5. Funeral services will be at 10:00 on Tuesday, November 6, followed by interment at New Ramah Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Pallbearers include J.R. Williams, Paul Kaluza, Jim Benefield, Mike Benefield, James Holly and Chris Stevens. Honorary pallbearers include Haskell Benefield, Sonny McClanahan, Delton Brown, James Roach, Grant Martin (in memory), David Taylor and F. M. Branch.

Denise Tinsley Harman

June 19, 1950 - March 14, 2012

A celebration of life for Ms. Denise Tinsley Harman, age 61, will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 17, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church, Haynesville, LA, with Rev. Bruce M. Rux officiating. A private family graveside service will follow in Old Town Cemetery, under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.

Denise was born on June 19, 1950 to Percy and Laura Shepherd Tinsley in Homer, LA and passed from this life on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Grace Home in Shreveport. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Haynesville, LA and was a loving daughter, mother, and grandmother.

Denise was a devoted mother who dedicated her life to her children. She was actively involved in their many interests. As a Boy Scout leader, she saw her three sons achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. The rest of her time was dedicated to her only daughter who was her best friend. She encouraged artistic expression in all of her children through the example of her own works.

Denise was a constant seeker of knowledge who was always available to answer any trivia question thrown her way. She loved to read and learn and share her knowledge with those around her.

She is survived by her mother Laura Tinsley of Haynesville, her children, Braden Harman and wife, Christie of Benton, AR, Bryce "Chip" Harman and wife, Virginia of Cut Bank, MT, Hayley Harman Ware and husband, Corbin of Haynesville; and by three grandchildren, Ava Christine Harman, Chloe Danielle Harman, and Percy Ambrose Harman.

Denise was preceded in death by her father, Percy Tinsley; and son, Ross Nicholas Harman.

Throughout her battle with MS, many churches, close friends and extended family supported her through acts of kindness and prayers. The family is extremely grateful for the many prayers over the years. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 9980 Hwy 79 Haynesville, LA 71038; The Grace Home, One Saint Mary Place, Shreveport, LA 71101; or the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, 6350 North Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309-2130.

Hazel Caswell Kilpatrick

December 19, 1914 - February 2, 2010

Funeral services for Hazel Caswell Kilpatrick, age 95, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the Bailey Mortuary Chapel in Springhill, LA with Adrian DeLukie officiating. Burial will be in the Old Shongaloo Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary, Springhill, LA.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.

Mrs. Kilpatrick was born December 19, 1914 to Eugene and Willie Modisette Caswell in Shongaloo, LA.

She passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the Minden Medical Center. Mrs. Kilpatrick was a homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She was also a member of the Antioch Church of Christ.

Mrs. Kilpatrick was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold Ray Kilpatrick; sons, James Harold Kilpatrick and Kernie Dennis Charlie Kilpatrick; sisters, Flossie Walker and Norvel Caswell; brothers, Glen Caswell and R.T. Caswell.

She is survived by daughters, Betty Bell and husband, Allan of Shreveport, LA and Annette Wiley and husband, James of Minden, LA; son, Harmon Buddy Kilpatrick of Minden, LA; grandchildren, Richie Kilpatrick, Kristie Martin, Sonia Monk, Gary Wiley, and Martha Gayle. Great-grandchildren, Cody,Amanda and Kelsey Kilpatrick, Quinton Martin, Joshua and Justin Monk, Caleb Wiley, Greg Gayle, Hilary Monk, and two great-great grandchildren; sisters, Ozzie Campbell and Geraldine Weller; a daughter-in-law, Deva Nell Kilpatrick, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Richie Kilpatrick, Gary Wiley, Carlos Martin, James Wagley, Joshua Monk, and Robert Kilpatrick.

The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff at The Arbor of Minden and her loving caretakers.

October 25, 1959 - April 20, 2012

Graveside services for Mr. Terry Glen Taylor, age 52, will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at the Forest Grove Cemetery, Taylor, AR, with Dr. Charles Payne officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2012 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Mr. Taylor was born on October 25, 1959 to Floyd and Hazel Phillips Taylor in Springhill, and passed away on April 20, 2012 in Shreveport. He loved fishing and being with his family and friends. Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his father and step-father, Bobby "Shorty" Taylor.

He is survived by his mother, Hazel Taylor; brother, Al Taylor and wife,Vonda of Sarepta, LA; sister, Kaye Berry and husband, Danny of Emerson, AR; step-brothers, Rickey Taylor and wife, Lynn of Boyce, LA, Dwayne Taylor and wife, Connie of Welch, LA; best friend, Randy Taylor of Springhill, LA; nieces and nephews, DeAnna Guillot and husband, Shannon, Hollie McHaffey and husband, Todd, Jason Taylor and wife, Lori; second mother, Rita Kinard and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Edward Eugene Edwards
July 3, 1933 - June 10, 2012

Cotton Valley, LA - Funeral services for Mr. Eugene Edwards, age 78, will be held Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 10:00 AM in Unity Baptist Church, Cotton Valley, LA with grandson, Rev. Chad Lee and Rev. Don Woodard officiating. Interment will follow in the Edwards Family Cemetery, Cotton Valley, under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Cotton Valley, LA.

Family will receive friends beginning Tuesday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Unity Baptist Church.

Mr. Edwards was born July 3, 1933 in Athens, LA to Everett Lee and Annie Esther Greer Edwards, Sr., and passed away Sunday, June 10, 2012 in Springhill, LA. He was a lifelong resident of this area, a deacon and faithful member of Unity Baptist Church, was a former employee of International Paper Company of 27 years and was retired from the Louisiana Dept. of Wildlife and Fishery with 20 years of service. Mr. Edwards was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce Lockey Edwards; daughters, Pam Hilton and husband, Terry of Vidalia, LA, Penny Foust and husband, William of Bernice, LA; sons, Johnny Edwards and wife, Mindy of Woodland, TX, Dr. Robert Edwards and wife, Lisa of Cotton Valley, LA; thirteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; sister, Barbara Rogers of Cotton Valley, LA; brother, E.L. Edwards, Jr. and wife, Lib of Sarepta, LA and a host of nieces and nephews.

Honoring him as pallbearers will be grandchildren, Laura Edwards, Leah Edwards, Lisa Edwards, Amber Joyner, Jonathan Edwards, Jeremy Lee, Colton Perritt and Jimmy Joyner. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Unity Baptist Church.
