PONCHATOULA -- Robert Joseph Phillips, 71 , a native of Ponchatoula, died Saturday Oct. 30, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center. He was a member of American Legion Post 0047.
Survivors include three sons, Robert Joseph Phillips, Jr., Wayne Allen Phillips and Walter James Phillips, all of Ponchatoula; two daughters, Camilla Ann Phillips and Kathy "Joe" Phillips, both of Ponchatoula; his mother, Alice Coughin Phillips Turcotte of Ponchatoula; two brothers, Harry James Phillips of Hammond and John Andrew Phillips of Houston; a sister, Pearl Whalen of Houston; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
His father, Harry Phillips; and his wife, Virginia Pompeo Phillips, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home of Ponchatoula, Thursday from 9 a.m. until the funeral at 11. Burial will be in Sand Hill Cemetery.
GARY DARNELL PRIMAS
ALBANY -- Gary Darnell Primas, 27, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at Ochsner Hospital.
A native of Tickfaw, he was a truck driver.
Survivors include five sisters, Shonna Jackson of Amite, Shonda Gutter Primas of Murfresboro, Tenn.; Lena Gutter of Hammond, Louise Sims of Ponchatoula and Dorothy McBride of New Orleans; three brothers, Curtis Lavar Primas of Tickfaw and the Rev. Charles Ray Weary and Kevin Gutter, both of Pensacola, Fla.; his mother, Alfreda Primas Bell; and his father, Hollis Bell.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, J.D. Primas, Rosa Lee Primas, Sam Gutter and Lena Gutter; and three brothers, Terry, Frank and Gary.
Visitation will be Thursday at Richardson Funeral Home, Hammond, from 6 to 9 p.m. The Rev. Ivy Williams will conduct the funeral Friday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Hammond, and burial will follow at the church cemetery.
ARA MAE RHEAMS
Ara Mae Rheams, 59, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond.
Survivors include one daughter, Felicia Butler of Denham Springs; four sons, Arthur Lee Smith and Mark Morris, both of Hammond, and Timothy Butler and Larry Butler, both of Denham Springs; six sisters, Juanita Smith of Modesto, Calif., Fannie Mae Wilson of Grand Rapids, Mich., Shirley Ruffin, Rose Mary Smith and Mary Wood, all of Los Angeles, and Lydia Smith of Gretna; and five brothers, Eugene Smith of Amite, Oliver Smith of Hammond, Roosevelt Young of Grand Rapids, Herbert Young of Los Angeles and Samuel Young of Ponchatoula.
Her mother, Bessie Smith; her father, Arthur Smith; her brother, Eddie Smith; and her sister, Victoria Chaney, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be Thursday at St. Joseph Baptist Church, Ponchatoula, from 5 p.m. until the Rev. Clarence Williams conducts the funeral at 7. Dismissal will be Friday at 11 a.m., and burial will be at Ponchatoula Cemetery.

ELMO J. RIGGS JR.
METAIRIE -- Elmo J. "Jim" Riggs Jr., 77, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004.
A native of Springfield, he was owner of J. Riggs and Associates. He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church, Square and Compass Lodge, the Shriner, the Gideons and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Vera Labit Riggs; his children, Connie Riggs Barringer, Elmo Jerry Riggs, Jo Ann Catalanotto and Brian Carl Riggs; two brothers, Alfred T. Riggs and Fred F. Riggs; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
His parents, Henrietta Threeton and Elmo J. Riggs Sr., preceded him in death.
Visitation will be tonight at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, Metairie, from 6 to 10 and Thursday at Parkview Baptist Church, Metairie, at 10 a.m. A second service will be at Springfield United Methodist Church, Springfield, at 2 p.m.

BEATRICE C. WHITFIELD
FOLSOM -- Beatrice C. Whitfield, 81, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004.
She was a member of Faith, Hope and Charity COGIC.
Survivors include four brothers, Donice Chapple of Yakima, Wash., Otis and Rubin Chapple, both of Portland, Ore.; and Cecil Chapple of Slidell.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be tonight at Faith, Hope and Charity COGIC, Folsom. The Rev. Junis Clark will conduct the funeral Thursday at noon, and burial will be at Hayhollow Cemetery, Folsom.

DOROTHY RUSSELL KELLY ALTHER
Dorothy Russell Kelly Alther, 85, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond.
A native of St. Bernard Parish, her survivors include one son, Kenneth D. Kelly Sr.; three sisters, Myrtle R. Evans, Joyce R. Frye and Marion Kaltenbach; two brothers, Bill and Jack Russell; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Adam Terry Kelly Sr. and her second husband, Harry G. Alther; her parents, James Russell Sr. and Viola Morales Russell; two sons, Patrick D. and Larry E. Kelly; one stepson, Adam Terry Kelly Jr.; four brothers, Harding, Forrest, Warren and James Russell Jr.; one sister, Lillian McKelvey Gross; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday at St. Bernard Memorial Gardens from 6 to 10 p.m. followed by burial at Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg, W. Va.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of a surviving great-granddaughter, Haley Ann Rose, to TARC, 201 E. Church St., Hammond, LA 70401.
JOHN M. HANCOCK JR.
AMITE -- John M. Hancock Jr., 80, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond.
A native of Alexandria, he was a retired welder and a dairy farmer. He was also a member of Kitchen Creek Baptist Church, Ball.
Survivors include his wife, Addie Joyce Addison Hancock of Amite; a son, Ronald Aubrey of Madison, Tenn.; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, John M. Hancock Sr.; his mother, Katherine Saal Hancock; and a stepson, Donald T. Herring Jr.
Visitation will be Tuesday at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 1 p.m. until the Rev. Milton Howard conducts the funeral at 3.
Burial will be at Amite Cemetery.

ALBANY -- Arrangements are incomplete for Anna Nagy Kuhn.
Kuhn, 90, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond.

EDWARD B. LINDSEY
Magnolia, Miss., native, Edward B. Lindsey, 57, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at his home.
He is survived by his wife, Rose M. Lindsey of Hammond; one daughter, Karetha Lindsey of Baton Rouge; two stepdaughters, Darlene Keel of Tampa, Fla., and Caronda Francoise of Amite; two sons, Rodney Lindsey of Baltimore and Edward Lindsey III of Baton Rouge; one stepson, James Ricky Freeman of Dallas; one sister, Lillie Butler of Natalbany; two brothers, Eddie and Eugene Lindsey of Lancaster, Calif.; and 18 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mary Lindsey; seven sisters and three brothers.
Visitation will be today at N.A. James Funeral Home, Hammond, from 4 to 8 p.m. The Rev. Jerry Hanible will conduct the funeral Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Greenfield Baptist Church, Hammond.
Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Hammond.
FLORINE ROSS TOWNSEND
A resident of Louisiana for the past 72 years, Florine Ross Townsend, 92, a native of Huntington, W. Va., died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004.
She was a professional church organist and had played for several churches throughout the state as a member of The Louisiana Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Jocelyn Townsend; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. A. W. Townsend Jr.
Visitation will be Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Hammond, from 5 p.m. until the funeral at 5:30 p.m.
Burial will be Friday at Memorial Park, St. Petersburg, Fla.
Donations may be made to First United Methodist Church Music Fund in memory of Florine R. Townsend.
