Doris St. Amant Candies, a native and resident of Des Allemands, passed away on Nov. 27. She was 83 years old.

She is survived by her sons, James “Shorty” Candies Jr. and Marshall Candies, sister Laura McHale, eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, James “Jimmy” Candies Sr., parents Camille and Mary Louise Trauth St. Amant, daughter Elnora Candies Cornwell, brothers Theophile, John, Eldon, Willie, Irvin and Lawrence St. Amant and sisters Ernestine St. Amant Staiger and Theo May Matherne.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Nov. 29 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church.

Chappell

Donald “T.C” Wayne Chappell, a resident of Luling, passed away on Nov. 20. He is survived by his mother, Naomi Louise Cook Chappell, sons Brian Wayne Chappell Sr. and Steven Todd Chappell, daughters Stephanie Leigh Chappell Cuny and Courtney Rene Chappell, brother Rex Chappell, grandchildren Brian Wayne Chappell Jr., Brittany Elizabeth Chappell, Callie Leigh Chappell, Alexis Jewells Chappell, Amber Paige Chappell, Zachary Graham Cuny, Jacob Griffin Cuny, Benjamin Edward Louis Cuny, Chad Jesse Dufrene and Josey Katelynn Dufrene, niece Amy Pardon and great-niece Donna Paige Watts. He is preceded in death by his father, Jewel “Bull” E. Chappell.

The funeral service was held on Nov. 23 at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home.

Clark

Earl Joseph “Don King” Clark, a retired foreman with St. Charles Grain Elevator, died on Nov. 18 of cancer at St. Charles Hospital in Luling. He was 65.

A graduate of Carver High School in Hahnville, he is survived by his wife, Joyce Stewart Clark, sons Bendell Clark Sr. and Radell Clark, daughter Joycelyn C. Ballard, mother Lista Benarby Guilfore, brother Ernest Patterson Sr., sisters Doris Williams and Beverly Byrd, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A funeral service was held on Nov. 23 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Ama.

Frickey

Eugene John Frickey of Des Allemands passed away on Nov. 11. He was 76 years old.

A retired superintendent with Chevron with 30 years of service, he is survived by his wife, Agnes Dufresne Frickey, sons Terry and Bruce Frickey, daughter Sheryl Mann, brother E.E. Frickey, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred John Frickey and Pauline Dufrene Frickey, brother R.J. Frickey and sister Fannie Keller.

Religious services were held on Nov. 14 at First Assembly of God Church in Des Allemands, followed by interment at Sunset Cemetery in Bayou Gauche.

Gaudet

Phillip “Bearcat” Gaudet III, a native and resident of Luling, passed away on Nov. 3. He was 52 years old.

A U.S. Air Force veteran, he is survived by his former wife Joan Breaux Gaudet, stepmother Della Somme Gaudet, son Jesse Gaudet, daughters Becky Gaudet Vedros, nieces Laura LeSage Guidry and Jamie LeSage, grandson Colin Vedros, sister Carol LeSage and stepsisters Michele Osburn, Henriette Somme and Ava Somme. He is preceded in death by his parents, Phillip Gaudet Jr. and Loretta Sevin Gaudet.

Religious services were held on Nov. 5 at Falgout Funeral Homes in Raceland followed by interment at St. Joseph Cemetery in Thibodaux.

Melancon

Ivy Joseph Melancon, a native of Raceland and resident of Marrero for 52 years, passed away on Nov. 9 at 4 p.m. He was 87 years old.

Ivy Melancon retired from Avondale Shipyards on April 1, 1977. He is survived by his wife, Velma Hebert Melancon, brother Loveless “L.J.” Melancon, and sisters Corrine Sapia and Lena Pierce. He is preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Hedwige Theriot Melancon, brothers Willie, Ronald and Wilmer Melancon and sisters Irene Martin and Elma Bonvillain.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Nov. 12 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Raceland. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ghanableh and the staff of West Jefferson Hospital.

Morales

Lydia Fabre Morales, native of Edgard and resident of Destrehan, passed away on Nov. 26. She was 82 years old.

She is survived by her children, Kathy Vicknair and Glenn C. Morales, sister Vernon Fabre S.r, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by husband Joaquin E. Crespo of her first marriage and Clifton J. Morales of her second marriage, parents Emile Fabre, Sr. and Cecile Lanoux Fabre, brother Vernon Fabre Sr., sisters Clara Ball, Leona Guidry and Emile Fabre and grandchild Glenn C. Morales Jr.

A funeral mass was held on Nov. 29 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.

Reaves

Wilbon W. “Bill” Reaves Jr., one of the pioneers in the offshore oil industry, died of cancer on Nov. 6 at his home in Luling after a two-year illness. He was 78 years old.

A native of Eufala, Alabama, Mr. Reaves graduated from Auburn University with a civil engineering degree in 1948. He was then employed by Humble Oil Co. which later became Exxon Corporation where he worked until his retirement. He was first assigned to the Franklin area and then to the New Orleans office. He worked out of the Grand Isle headquarters of Exxon from 1954 to 1957 and then moved to St. Charles Parish where he worked out of the Paradis office.

During his career with Exxon, Mr. Reaves was involved in the construction of 39 major offshore oil platforms as well as gas plants, pipelines and numerous other projects. At his retirement, a plaque given him noted that “his expertise is widely recognized throughout Exxon and the offshore construction industry.”

Mr. Reaves served on the St. Charles Parish Planning and Zoning Board for eight years and was active with the St. Charles Parish Council on Aging. He and his wife observed their 60th wedding anniversary in July.

He is survived by his wife, the former Ruby Hatfield; one son, William Thomas; one daughter, Catherine Reaves Moore; two sisters, Barbara R. Morrison and Sara Vaughn; a grandson, Stacey McKenzie Moore and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilborn Reaves Sr. and Annie Wade Wise Reaves.

Services were held at First Union Presbyterian Church in Luling Friday with interment in Fairview Cemetery in Eufala. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to given to the Wilbon Reaves Jr. Memorial at First Union Presbyterian Church.

Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home in Marrero was in charge of arrangements.

Triche

Irma Troxclair Triche, native of Mout Airy and lifelong resident of New Sarpy, passed away on Nov. 16 at Ormond Nursing and Care Center. She was 88 years old.

She is survived by her daughters Beryl T. Minvielle and Sylvia T. Maurin, her son, Larry E. Triche Sr., grandchildren Jan Cronan, Wanda Gros, Keith, Duane, Kirk, Darren and Chad Minvielle, Terri Duhe, Brett and Kirby Maurin, Pamela McCarter, Patti Gaubert, Mary Beth Gaubert, Penny Cantrelle and Larry Triche, Jr., and 23 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Triche.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church on Nov. 18 followed by interment at St. Charles Mausoleum.

Binet

Joseph A. Binet, retired Naval Senior Master Chief and English teacher, died on Dec. 4 at St. Charles Parish Hospital. He was 62.

Mr. Binet was born in New Orleans and resided in St. Charles Parish. He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy after earning a Combat Action Ribbon, two Vietnam Service Medals and a Joint Service Commendation. Mr. Binet served as the director of Planning and Zoning for St. Charles Parish prior to receiving a B.S. from the University of New Orleans. He taught English and Journalism at Hahnville High School. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leocadie Dominique Binet and Albert Leo Binet, Sr., and his siblings, Morgan Binet, Sister Mary Ellen Tranquilla Binet and Albert Binet, Jr. He is survived by his siblings George Binet, Nolarean Binet Ragusa and Claire Binet Creppel, his former wife Diane Ford Binet, their children Jason and Gretchen Binet, John and Jennifer Binet and Melissa and David Williamson, grandchildren Nicholas and Daniel Binet, Andrew, Grant and Christian Williamson and Sara Binet and his dear friend Jeanne de la Houssaye. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at Lake Lawn Metaire Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard, today at noon. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Internment will be at a later date. In lieu of usual remembrances, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 300, Memphis, TN, 38148.

Detillier

Lillie Pearl Detillier, a native of Cullman, Ala. and a resident of Paradis, passed away on Dec. 30. She was 80 years old.

She is survived by her husband, Milton J. Detillier, sons James R. Miller and Garry Wayne Mann, daughter Sherrin Johnson and seven grandchildren. She is preceded in death by parents William Elmer Miller and Lillie P. Huskey Miller, sons Joel Dean Knight and Roger Dale Knight, brothers Waymon Miller and Joel David Miller and sisters Bonnie Stricklin and Nell McLean.

Religious services will be held today at Boutte Assembly of God Church at 2 p.m.

Dufrene

Shelia Loupe Dufrene, native and resident of Des Allemands, passed away on Dec. 5. She was 46 years old.

She is survived by her stepfather, Clarence “Ralph” Breaux, son Jonathan Dufrene, daughters Regina and Hannah Dufrene, brothers Teddy Loupe and Gene Breaux, sister Brenda Breaux and seven grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Theresa Billiot Loupe. Services will be held today at 10 a.m. at Falgout Funeral Home in Raceland followed by interment at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Des Allemands.

Fabre

Jean Elizabeth Fabre of Bradenton, Fla., passed away on Dec. 21. She was 86 years old.

Mrs. Fabre was a retired fifth grade teacher from Lyons Elementary School in Lyons, NY. She held a BA degree from the University of Rochester and a Masters from SUNY in Oswego, NY. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Fabre LeVine, sons David Fabre and John Fabre, and four grandchildren.

Services will be held on Jan. 18 at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery in Destrehan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to the Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota FL 34238.

Fahrig

Jackson Christian Fahrig passed away on Dec. 21. He was two weeks old.

He is survived by his parents, Jasper Frederick III and Angela Profumo Fahrig, grandparents William and Mary P. Mitchell and Jasper Jr. and Teresa G. Fahrig and sister Elise Marie Fahrig. Religious services were held Dec. 23 at First Union Presbyterian Church in Luling.

Lanaux

Antoine Denis Lanaux passed away on Dec. 27 at St. Charles Parish Hospital. He was 80 years old.

Mr. Lanaux was a native of New Orleans and a lifelong resident of Lucy. A sugar cane planter and a part owner of T. Lanaux and Sons, located at Glendale Plantation in Lucy, he was a member of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Church, American Legion Post #131, past commander of VFW #3750, Knights of Columbus #2409, an honor board member of the American Sugar Cane League and a member of the board of directors at Destrehan Plantation. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force during World War II, he was a member of the 60th Carrier Troop, having earned the rank of First Lieutenant. During his service he received the European African Middle Eastern Campaign medal with two bronze stars.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Yolande Poche Lanaux, son Antoine Denis Lanaux III and wife Lisa and daughter Laurie Marie Lanaux Mineo and husband Bob, grandchildren Jonathan and Kyle Mineo, Denis IV, Christopher, Courtney and Britten Lanaux and siblings Marthe L., Pierre B., Hilaire D. and Louis A. Lanaux, Jr. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph L. Lanaux and Marie H. Thibodeaux Lanaux and sister Marie L. Lanaux.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Dec. 30 at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Church in Hahnville followed by interment in St. Joseph’s Mausoleum in Paulina.

Le Sage

Lillian B. Le Sage, a native of Jackson, Miss. and resident of Destrehan for 50 years, passed away on Dec. 20. She was 81 years old.

Mrs. Le Sage was a retired registered nurse, graduating form Hotel Dieu School of Nursing. She is survived by her children, Richard Le Sage Jr. and wife Carol, Michael Le Sage and wife Linda, Linda Kugler and husband Barry and Nancy Boudreaux and husband Sammy, grandchildren Stacey Hebert and husband Derek, Cindy Menard and husband Steven, Salvador Boudreaux and wife Kristi, Laura Guidry and husband Kevin, Jamie Le Sage, Dylan Le Sage and Danielle Le Sage, and gread-grandchildren Derek and Jordan Hebert and Remi Guidry. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Edwin Le Sage Sr., and her parents, John L. and Helen Ward Bentz.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Dec. 21 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan.

Macloud

Gary J. Macloud, native of New Orleans and 35-year resident of Destrehan, passed away on Dec. 2 at 5:30 p.m. He was 58 years old.

Mr. Macloud was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a retired operator from Shell after 27 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lorraine Mire Macloud, children Trevor P. Macloud and wife Christina, Denise A. Macloud, Meredith M. Gauthier and husband Steven and Karen H. Morgan, brother Robert Macloud, Jr. and wife Minnie, Edward Macloud, Irby Macloud and William “Willie” Macloud, sisters Gloria Fox, Norma Hinyup, Julie Palmisano and Emily Miquez and grandchildren Brandon, Blake and Brooke Macloud, Kyle Gauthier and Ashley Kreutle.. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Macloud Sr. and Emily Guidroz Macloud and sister Barbara Godail.

Robichaux

Leroy Luke Robichaux, a native and resident of Raceland, passed away on Dec. 8. He was 79 years old.

A parishoner of St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church, Mr. Robichaux was a member of the VFW and the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his daughters, Caroliyn Bonnette and Rouanne LeBlanc, sister Corine Elfert, seven children and two great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mae Callahan Robichaux, parents Odrise and Azema Foret Robichaux, brothers Ivy, Hubert, Willy, Junis and Johnny Robichaux and sisters Eloise Borne, Irene Bourgeois, Esma Arcenaux, Annie Archenaux and Edna Cortez.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Dec. 10 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Cemetery in Raceland.

Smith

Eola “Nenaine” Louise Smith, a retired utility company employee, died at River Parishes Hospital in Laplace on Dec. 4 at 5:45 a.m. She was 92 years old.

She is survived by her niece, Lettie Marie Friloux, nephew Henry Friloux Jr. and his wife, Arleen, nephew Nash Friloux and his wife, Paula, all of Destrehan, Ann Elise Kimball, Joycelyn Monica, Phyllis Martin, Lynn Rose Gonzales, Joy Arcuri, Allen Smith Jr., Mark Smith Jr., Jerry Smith, brother Mark A. Smith, Lettitia “Lettie” Smith Friloux and Allen F. Smith. She is preceded in death by parents Maude Louise Wood Smith and J. Nash Smith and brother James Nicholas Smith. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial today at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Norco. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, masses or donations in her memory can be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 401 Spruce St., Norco, 70079, or the Arc of St. Charles, P.O. Box 455, Boutte, 70039.

St. Amant

Norman M. St. Amant, a native and resident of Des Allemands, passed away on Dec. 23. He was 90 years old.

Mr. St. Amant is survived by his daughter, Marietta S. Babineaux, sisters Nettie Multer and Vera Neil, five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Tregle St. Amant, parents Francios and Catherine Trauth St. Amant, brothers Frank, Ignatious, Jesse, Alton, Van, Nolan, Gerald, and Marvin St. Amant and sisters Elise Cocke, Iona Cantrelle and Bernadine Melancon.

Religious services were held on Dec. 27 at Boutte Assembly of God Church, followed by interment at St. Gertrude Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Metropolitan Hospice, 5650 Read Boulevard, New Orleans, 70127.

St. Pierre

Ethel Lapeyrolerie St. Pierre, aged 100 years, a retired teacher and community activist, died on Dec. 26.

A native of Carville and longtime resident of Norco, she is preceded in death by her son, Roy St. Pierre, sisters Corine McEntire, Mabel Lapeyrolerie, Louise Breaux and Aimee Falcon, brothers Arlie Jerome Ernest and Laurence and parents John and Alcila Rome Lapeyrolerie. She is survived by her brother John Henry and sister Nellie Rose Roberts, a great many nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Among her many awards and recognitions were the Civic Achievement Award for East St. Charles Parish, first place winner for several years in the Volunteer Senior Citizens Program, the Thelma Ashley American Legion Auxiliary Award, the Great American Family Community Award, the Medal of the Order of St. Lewis. She was an active member in the Retired Teachers, Catholic Daughters of America, Sacred Heart Alter Society and in the pro-life movement. Services were held on Dec. 30 at St. Gabriel Roman Catholic Church in St. Gabriel.

Matherne

Ida H. Matherne, native of Reserve and resident of Norco, passed away on Dec. 23 at Ormond Nursing and Care Center. She was 84.

She is survived by her sons, Wayne Joseph Matherne, Paul Matherne and Clancy Joseph “C.J.” Matherne Jr., her daughter Shirley Cicet, 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mass was said on Dec. 27 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norco followed by burial at St. John Memorial Garden, LaPlace.

Tastet

Floyd L. Tastet, a native of Raceland and resident of Des Allemands, passed away on Dec. 24. He was 83 years old.

Mr. Tastet is survived by his wife, Hilda Schmill Tastet, daughters Jocelyn T. Fann and Cheryl T. Eymard, brother Donald Tastet, sisters Ida LeBlanc and Gertrude Rahn, six grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Valerie Danos Tastet, brothers Paul, Roy, Earl and Roland Tastet and sisters Lucille Tastet, Enola Foret and Florence Breaux.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Dec. 28 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Des Allemands.

White

Kevin John White, an employee in the paint department of Bryant Chevrolet, passed away on Dec. 29 of heart failure. He was 31.

Mr. White was born in Columbia, Miss., grew up in Metairie and lived in Destrehan for the last nine years. He graduated from Ridgewood Preparatory High School and attended the University of Southern Louisiana and Southeaster Louisiana University. He was a carpenter at Pritchett Construction from 1985 until 1996. At Ridgewood, he was the school’s quarterback, thre the longest pass of a high school football game played in the superdome and, in 1989, was named high school athlete of the year.

He is survived by his wife, Bridgett Anne Guedry White, sons Destin John and Deyton Christopher White, father Lester l. White Jr., mother Roselyn Pritchett White, brothers Kerry James and Keith Jonathan White, sister Kristen W. Smiley, grandparents Elouise Smith Pritchett and Lester L. White, father-in-law Roger J. Guedry Jr., mother-in-law Sonya DeCarte and grandparents-in-law Roger and Theresa Guedry.

A funeral was held on Jan. 3 at L.A. Muhleisen and Son Funeral Home in Kenner.

Balliviero

Tammy G. Balliviero, daughter of Buddy and Rita Graver of Luling, died on Jan. 4 from sepsis at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. She was 43.

Balliviero was born in Boutte and lived in Belle Chasse. Survivors include her husband, Michael D. Balliviero; a son, Quentin M. Balliviero; a daughter, Abbey Balliviero; a stepson, Joseph A. Balliviero; her father, Buddy Graver; her mother, Rita Danos Graver; three brothers, Chris, Randy and Todd Graver; and her grandmother, Clarabelle Walker Danos. A funeral was held on Jan. 7 at Mothe Funeral Home in Harvey. Burial was in Holy Rosary Cemetery in Larose.
