WORCESTER -- Normand P. Archambeault, 59, of 9 Friedel St., a Vietnam War veteran, died Sunday, March 17, in St. Mary Healthcare Center, after an illness.

He leaves a stepson, Paul Melican of Portland, Maine; two daughters, Karin Rak of Lutherville, Md., and Kristen Tyson of Portland; two sisters, Marie Foster of Shrewsbury and Theresa Bailey of Hubbardston; five grandchildren; and his fiancee, Paula Jandrow, with whom he lived. A brother, Henry L. Archambeault of North Brookfield, died in 1987. He was born in Worcester, son of Henry J. and Hazel M. (Lamprey) Archambeault, and graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Mr. Archambeault was a dispatcher for M&M Transportation Co. and Sweetlife in Northboro. He enjoyed fishing, motorcycling and boating.

The graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Massachusetts Veterans Shelter, 69 Grove St., Worcester, MA 01605.

Emily M. Ashton, 89
Monday, April 01, 2002

TEMPLETON -- Emily M. (Morrison) Ashton, 89, formerly of 30 New Winchendon Road, Baldwinville, a retired payroll supervisor, died Sunday, March 31, in River Terrace Healthcare, Lancaster.

Her husband, Cyril J. Ashton, died in 1992. She leaves a nephew, Kenneth E. Vinal of Southern Pines, N.C.; and a niece, Ruth A. Bisbee of Laurenburg, N.C. She was born in Lowell, daughter of John W. and Emily (Currul) Morrison, and lived many years in Lowell before moving to Baldwinville in 1954. She graduated from Lowell High School.

Mrs. Ashton was a payroll supervisor at Simplex Time Recorder Co. for 21 years, retiring at age 62.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, in Smith Funeral Home, 69 Vernon St., Gardner. Burial will be in Edson Cemetery, Lowell. A calling hour is 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Templeton Fire Department Rescue Squad, PO Box 4, Baldwinville, MA 01436.

Gertrude H. Barry, 85
Wednesday, March 20, 2002

HUDSON -- Gertrude H. (Rojcewicz) Barry, 85, of 8 Brigham Circle, died Tuesday, March 19, at her home.

Her husband, Gerard T. Barry, died in 1998. She leaves two daughters, Catherine Barry of Hudson and Mildred Tebo of Berlin; four sons, Michael and Richard Barry, both of Hudson, John Barry of Shrewsbury and Robert Barry in Arizona; a brother, Albert Rogers of Shrewsbury; two sisters, Felicia Fontaine of Worcester and Leocadia Guenter in Florida; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. A son, Gerard T. Barry Jr., died in 1958. She was born in Worcester, and lived in Hudson for 49 years.

Ms. Barry was a secretary for Raytheon Corp. for many years, retiring in 1989. She was a member of Hudson Eagles Auxiliary, Hudson Senior Center and Christ the King Church.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 21, in Christ the King Church, 48 Central St. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Marlboro. A calling hour will be 9 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday, March 21, in Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St. Memorial contributions may be made to Hudson Senior Center, 29 Church St., Hudson, MA 01749.

Gertrude W. Bean, 78
Saturday, March 30, 2002

LEOMINSTER -- Gertrude W. (Strom) Bean, 78, of 43A Laurie Drive, died Thursday, March 28, in St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, N.H.

She leaves her husband of 58 years, Roy A. Bean; a son; a daughter, Sandra Perry of Nashua; a sister, Lisa Dauito of New Jersey; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. She was born in the Bronx, N.Y., daughter of Edwin and Olga (Erkus) Strom, and graduated from New York schools.

She was a champion swimmer, and qualified for the U.S. Olympic swim team at age 14.

She was a bookkeeper for Independent Lock Co. in Fitchburg, and had also worked as a fiscal officer for Montachusett Home Care.

The funeral service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, in Wright-Roy Funeral Home, 109 West St. After cremation, burial will be at the convenience of the family. A calling period will be held 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, in the funeral home.

Thomas F. Beatty, 84
Saturday, March 30, 2002

WORCESTER -- Thomas F. Beatty, 84, of Worcester, a retired electrical engineer, died Friday, March 29, in Providence Extended Healthcare Center after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 60 years, Mary E. (Thayer) Beatty; two daughters, Carol A. Evans of Brighton, Colo., and Nancy S. Taylor of Southbridge; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A grandson died in 1993. He was born in Worcester, son of Thomas and Palmira (Bagnolia) Beatty. He graduated from Classical High School and received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from WPI in 1939.

Mr. Beatty was an electrical engineer at G.T.E. Sylvania Co., retiring in 1984. He was a member of Theta Kappa Phi while attending WPI, the First Friday Club, Greendale Men's Club, Emerald Club, St. Charles Borromeo Church and the Catholic Sodality of Our Lady. He enjoyed reading and gardening.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, April 2, from O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Ave. (www.oconnorbrothers.com), with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 341 June St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 1, in the funeral home. Flowers may be sent, or memorial donations made to St. Charles Borromeo Church, 341 June St., Worcester, MA 01602.

Gordon J. Bedard, 77
Tuesday, March 26, 2002

WORCESTER -- Gordon J. Bedard, 77, of 32 Quaboag St., a retired office administrator, died Saturday, March 23, at home after an illness.

He leaves a brother, Roland Bedard of Worcester; a sister, Shirley Helias of Worcester; nieces and nephews. He was born in Worcester, son of Walter and Rena (Gregoire) Bedard.

Mr. Bedard was an office administrator for 35 years at Norton Co., retiring in 1985. He was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Cathedral; an associate member of American Legion Main South Post 341; and a member of Greendale Retirement Club, Norton's 25 Years Club and Worcester Boys Club Alumni.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, March 27, from Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Hammond St. (www.royfuneral.com), with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Paul's Cathedral, 15 Chatham St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Cynthia Bedard, 52
Sunday, March 31, 2002

PALMER -- Cynthia Bedard, 52, of Thorndike St., formerly of 16 Ludlow St., Worcester, died Thursday, March 28, in Mary Lane Hospital in Ware.

She leaves her parents, Edward and Constance (Waitkus) Bedard of Worcester; four sisters, Christine A. Doherty of Boston, Carita M. Fontaine and Constance R. Kelly, both of Worcester and Donna A. Gilbert of Palmer; many nieces and nephews. She graduated from Doherty High School in Worcester, and attended the A.R.C. Program at the Seven Hills Foundation. She had been attending the Mary Lane Adult Day Health Program in Ware.

Miss Bedard was a volunteer at in the Lending Library City Hospital, Worcester.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, April 2, from Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Hammond St., Worcester (www.royfuneral.com), with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St., Worcester. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 1, in the funeral home. Norman K. Bedard, 70
Monday, March 25, 2002

MILLBURY -- Norman K. Bedard, 70, of 31 Hawthorne St., died Saturday, March 23, in Providence Extended Care in Worcester.

He leaves his wife of 39 years, Louise J. (Erickson) Bedard; a son, Ken G. Bedard of Shrewsbury; a daughter, Lisa J. Patterson of Greenbush, Maine; a sister, Nancy Bedard of Eastham; two grandsons; a niece. He was born in Worcester, son of Frank and Agnes (Johnson) Bedard, and graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He lived 39 years in Millbury.

Mr. Bedard was a quality control inspector for Entwistle Corp. in Hudson. He previously worked at Warner-Swazey.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, in Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., Worcester Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., Worcester. Burial will be in All Faiths Cemetery, Worcester. A calling hour will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, in the funeral home.

Martha M. Bekier, 81

MILLBURY -- Martha M. (Dwinell) Bekier, 81, of 9 Alpine St., a retired secretary, died Sunday, March 24, in Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital, Milford.

Her husband, Walter Bekier, died in 1985. She leaves a daughter, Joan M. Bekier of Millbury; six sons, James A. Bekier of Baltimore, Steven W. Bekier of Rindge, N.H., Kenneth C., Thomas E., John M. and Robert S. Bekier, all of Millbury; two brothers, Richard P. and Robert B. Dwinell, both of Millbury; two sisters, Barbara M. O'Brien and Bernice M. Gaudere, both of Millbury; 10 grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Two brothers, Earl and Harold Dwinell, and a sister, Hazel I. Weldon, predeceased her. She was born in Millbury, daughter of Charles and Sadie (Army) Dwinell, and graduated from Millbury High School in 1937.

Mrs. Bekier was a secretary for the Millbury School Department at Elmwood Street School for 25 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of St. Brigid's Church.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, March 27, from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., (www.mulhane.com), with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Brigid's Church, 59 Main St. Burial will be in Central Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Friends of Millbury Seniors, 1 River St., Millbury, MA 01527.

Guy T. Belanger, 70
Sunday, March 24, 2002

HOLDEN -- Guy T. Belanger, 70, of 39 Acorn Drive, died Friday, March 22, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus, Worcester, after being stricken ill at home.

He leaves his wife of 49 years, Barbara A. (Crowton) Belanger; two sons, Robert J. and Thomas G. Belanger, both of Worcester; four daughters, Kathleen M. Tyrell of Fitchburg, Susan M. Ciesluk and Ann M. Moriarty, both of Worcester, and Carolyn J. Belanger of Newton; a brother, Germain Belanger of Worcester; three sisters, Lorraine Vandal of Spencer, and Raymonde Forand and Hueguette Peters, both of Worcester. 13 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. A sister, Lucille Smith of Webster, predeceased him. He was born in St. Hermingilde, Quebec, son of Thomas and Anna (Pelletier) Belanger, and moved to Worcester 61 years ago. He attended city schools. During the Korean War, he served with the Army in Germany.

Mr. Belanger was a truck driver many years for both Lombard Brothers Trucking and for Yellow Freight Co. He retired 12 years ago.

He was a member of Saint George's Parish, and was a member of Local 170 Teamsters Union. He also enjoyed hunting.

The funeral will be held Monday, March 25, from Henry Funeral Home, 33 Ward St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. George's Church, 38 Brattle St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 24, in the funeral home. Please omit flowers. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Mass. Affiliate, 1 Bromfield St., Boston, 02108.

Rita J. Belaska, 79
Saturday, March 23, 2002

CLINTON -- Rita J. (Salamone) Belaska, 79, of 52 Wilson St., died Friday, March 22, at home after an illness. Robert J. McNally Funeral Home, 304 Church St., is directing funeral arrangements, which are incomplete.
