LEOMINSTER - Mary "Flora" (Melanson) Williams, 98, formerly of Leominster, died Thursday, March 21, in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home in Gardner. Wright-Roy Funeral Home, 109 West St., is directing arrangements, which are incomplete.

Francisco Etienne

WORCESTER -- Francisco Etienne 73, of 127 Plantation Street died Monday February 26th in the St. Francis Home after an illness. He leaves his wife of 50 years Inocencia (Burrows) Etienne. He also leaves 4 sons Julian Barria of Worcester, Carlos Etienne of Panama, Luis Etienne of Killeen, TX, and Jose Etienne of Worcester, a brother, Albert Etienne of Panama, 5 sisters Malena Dixon of California, Pearl Etienne of NY, Dorothy Etienne of Panama, Thelma Titus of Worcester and Elisa Etienne of Panama, 20 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, many nephews and nieces. A son Nino Etienne of Worcester died in 1987.

He was born in Panama and lived many years in Panama before moving to Worcester recently. Mr. Etienne was a boatswain at the Panama Canal Company for 40 years before retiring.

The funeral service will be held Friday March 2nd at 10:00 AM in O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 AM in the funeral home.

Mary D. (Mazzeo) Sinopoli

WORCESTER -- Mary D. (Mazzeo) Sinopoli 88, of 425 Pleasant Street died Friday March 2nd in Beaumont Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center after an illness. She leaves a son Robert P. Fahlin of Spencer, 2 daughters Louise A. Eldridge of Tempe, AZ and Karen M. McKenzie of Shrewsbury, a brother, Joseph Mazzeo of Las Vegas, a sister, Anna Garafalo of Revere, 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, many nephews and nieces.

She was born in Revere daughter of Angelo and Angela M. (Zito) Mazzeo. Mrs. Sinopoli worked as a printer at Paul Revere Life Insurance Co. for many years before retiring. Mrs. Sinopoli was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. She attended the Boston Conservatory of Music and loved oil painting and the piano.

The funeral will be held Wednesday March 7th at 11:00 AM in O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.

Jean (Travers) Heon

WORCESTER -- Jean (Travers) Heon 70, of Harwich, died Saturday March 3rd in Notre Dame Long Term Care Center. She leaves her husband Robert H. Heon, a son, R. Scott Heon of Leesburg, VA, 2 daughters Susan George of Bolton and Joanne Rodgers of Round Hill, VA, a brother Herbert F. Travers, Jr. of Holden, 3 Grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.

She was born in Worcester daughter of Herbert F. and Corinne (LaForce) Travers. Mrs. Heon graduated from South High School in 1948. She received her Bachelors degree from Regis College in 1952 and her Masters in Social Work from Boston College in 1954. Mrs. Heon was a psychiatric social worker. She had been a caseworker for Worcester Children’s Friend Society. She worked as a volunteer in Columbo, Sri Lanka and was school social worker in Groton, CT public schools. She had been Director of Case Work for Catholic Charities in Northern Virginia. She also had a private practice in psychiatric social work in Fairfax, VA. For several years Mrs. Heon was co-owner and operator of a restaurant and catering business in McLean, VA.

The funeral will be Thursday March 8th from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 11:30 AM in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 25 Fales St. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Wednesday March 7th from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, 559 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA 01605.

Ed Wheeler

WORCESTER -- Ed Wheeler 86, of 83 Rodney Street died Sunday February 18th in UMass Memorial Healthcare–Memorial Campus after an illness. He leaves 4 sons, Willie, Andrew and Eugene Wheeler all of Worcester, and John E. Wheeler of Shaw, MS, 4 daughters Clancy Pittman and Dorothy Wheeler both of Worcester, Thelma Wheeler of Memphis, TN and Annie Atupon of Newport News, VA, 20 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and nephews and nieces. A son Columbus Wheeler of Memphis, TN died in 1990.

He was born in Mississippi the son of Joe and Lizzie (Gray) Wheeler and moved to Worcester 2 years ago. Mr. Wheeler was a farmer in Mississippi for 35 years, he later worked for the Department of Public Works in Sunflower County, Mississippi for 20 years before retiring. Mr. Wheeler was a deacon at the Jake’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and a member of the Mason’s.

The funeral will be held Friday February 23rd at 11:00 AM in O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 31160, Hartford, CT.

Sven A. Johnson

WORCESTER -- Sven A. Johnson 76, of 54 Sylvan Street, a World War II veteran and former bartender, died Tuesday February 20th, in UMass Memorial Medical Center-University Campus, after being stricken ill. His wife of 46 years, Vivian M. (Power) Johnson, died in 1996. He leaves two sons, David A. Johnson of Northboro and Brian D. Johnson of Southbridge, five brothers, Toga Janson of Auburndale, FL, Steve Johnson of Carson City, NV, Carl Johnson of Sparks, NV, George Johnson of St. Paul, MN, and Bennett Johnson of Shrewsbury, three sisters, Ruth and Florence Johnson, both of Worcester, and Alice Wygren of Mountain View, CA, three grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Two brothers Henry and Kenneth Johnson predeceased him.

He was born in Worcester son of C. Alfred and Esther (Peterson) Johnson, and graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Johnson was a bartender many years at Don's Place. He was previously an office manager for United Van Lines. He was a past commander of American Legion Post 443 Cherry Valley, and was a Mason. He was an avid golfer.

The funeral service will be held at 10 AM Friday February 23rd, in O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are from 6:00 until 9:00 PM Thursday February 22nd in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

John J. Shannon

WORCESTER -- John J. Shannon, 83 of 4 Stearns Street, died Thursday February 22nd in St. Vincent Hospital. He leaves a sister Anna Clare Graham of Paxton, and 9 nephews; John and James Graham both of Paxton, William Graham of Westboro, Thomas Graham and John McLoughlin both of Shrewsbury, Robert McLoughlin of Worcester, Liam, Christopher and David Shannon all of Brookline, and a niece, Patricia Cummins of Richmond, VA. He was predeceased by a brother former U.S. Ambassador to Ireland; William V. Shannon of Brookline, and 2 sisters Margaret McLoughlin and Mary Willett both of Worcester.

He was born in Worcester the son of Patrick J. and Nora (McNamara) Shannon. Mr. Shannon was a graduate of South High School, and earned his bachelor and masters degrees from Clark University. He had taught U.S. History for over 40 years. Mr. Shannon taught at Chelmsford High School, and served as coach for the boy’s basketball and baseball teams there. He later taught at North High School and Doherty Memorial High School serving as Head of the History Department at both schools, he retired in 1981. Mr. Shannon was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church, and was an avid follower of the national political scene.

The funeral will be Monday February 26th from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday February 25th from 4:00 until 8:00 PM.

Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions made to the John J. Shannon Memorial Fund at Clark University, 950 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01610 for the benefit of a Worcester Public School graduate.

Barbara A. (Hemenway) Anderson

WORCESTER -- Barbara A. (Hemenway) Anderson 75, formerly of the Main South area died Thursday February 22nd, at the Christopher House after a long illness. She is survived by her son David Waterbury of Worcester, her daughter Linda Depanian of Paxton, 3 brothers Warren Hemenway of Lexington, Philip Hemenway of Sun City, AZ and Ralph Hemenway of Shreveport, LA, 3 sisters Frances Duncan of Framingham, Marion Morgan of Yarmouthport and Margaret Snow of Worcester, 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandson, several nephews and nieces. 2 brothers and 2 sisters predeceased her they were; Robert Hemenway of Framingham, Richard Hemenway of Walnut Creek, CA, Pauline Mosher of Worcester and Christine Hemenway of Framingham.

She was born in Framingham the daughter of Carlton and Sadie (Wells) Hemenway. Mrs. Anderson had been a volunteer with the Ladies Home League, the Salvation Army and the Volunteers of America.

Calling hours will be from 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Sunday February 25th, with a memorial service at 6:00 PM in O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester, MA 01603

Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions made to the Salvation Army, 630-640 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01608.

Kathleen “Kathy” M. (Haggarty) Coleman

WORCESTER -- Kathleen “Kathy” M. (Haggarty) Coleman 75, of 140 Moreland Street, died Friday February 23rd in St. Vincent Hospital. She leaves her husband of 54 years John L. Coleman, Sr., 2 daughters Ellen A. Welsh of Pensacola, FL and Susan Coleman-Goldstein of Gardner, a sister Anne Tatler of Venice, FL, 6 grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. A son John L. Coleman, Jr. of Worcester died in 1963.

She was born in New York City the daughter of James J. and Anne (Quinn) Haggarty and had lived in Worcester for many years. Mrs. Coleman was a graduate of Medford High School, and had been a secretary at the former Worcester City Hospital, and later at Hope cemetery retiring many years ago. She was a member of Christ the King Church, and had served as an adult advisor to the CYC at Christ the King Church and as a Cub Scout Den Mother at the church’s troop. She was an avid quilter and doll collector.

The funeral will be Wednesday February 28th from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are 5:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday February 27th.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Mercy, 101 Barre Road, Worcester, MA 01609.

Lucille T. Donnelly

WORCESTER -- Lucille T. Donnelly 73, formerly of 71 Osceola Avenue, died Saturday February 24th in UMass Memorial Healthcare-Memorial Campus. She leaves 2 nephews Henry C. Donnelly, Jr. of San Jose, CA and Richard H. Donnelly of Santa Cruz, CA, 2 nieces Mary Donnelly of Princeton and Meg Donnelly of Duxbury, and several grand nephews and grand nieces.

She was born in Worcester the daughter of Richard H. and Teresa C. (Walsh) Donnelly and had lived here all her life. Miss Donnelly had been a dietician at the former Worcester City Hospital for many years before retiring. She was a member of St. Peter’s Church.

The funeral will be Tuesday February 27th from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 11:00 AM in St. Peter’s Church, 929 Main Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. A calling hour will be held the morning of the funeral from 9:30 until 10:30 AM in the funeral home.

Catherine “Edna” (Cullinane) Moon

WORCESTER -- Catherine “Edna” (Cullinane) Moon 90, formerly of 1050 Main Street died Wednesday February 28th in UMass-Memorial Healthcare-Memorial Campus after a long illness. Her husband of 45 years Willard F. Moon died in 1979. She leaves a son James F. Moon of Shrewsbury, 2 daughters Janice E. Crosbie of Auburn and Jesslyn A. Sullivan of Groton, 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

She was born in Worcester the daughter of Peter F. and Katherine (Corrigan) Cullinane and lived here all her life. She was a graduate of Commerce High School and a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church.

The funeral will be Friday March 2nd from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at Noon in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 10:30 until 11:30 AM the morning of the funeral.

In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to either the Odd Fellows Home of Massachusetts, 104 Randolph Road, Worcester, MA 01606 or the Arthritis Foundation, 29 Crafts Street, Newton, MA 02458.

Edward J. Lawson

SPENCER -- Edward J. Lawson 53, of 19 Thompson Pond Road, died Sunday May 20th at home after being stricken ill. His wife of 26 years, Carol A. (Renzoni) Lawson died in October of last year. He leaves his daughter Angela Lawson of Spencer; a brother Richard B. Lawson of Hopkinton; a sister Beverly wife of Charles Morris of Milford and many nephews and nieces. A daughter Heidi A. Lawson of Worcester died in 1977.

He was born in Boston son of Bernard H. and Mary J. (Geoghagen) Lawson. He was a graduate of Natick High School. Mr. Lawson had been employed as an electrician at Clark University for 21 years. He was a member of Leicester Rod and Gun Club, and was an avid outdoorsman.

The funeral will be held Thursday May 24th from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester with a mass at 11:00 AM in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant Street, Worcester. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours will be Wednesday May 23rd from 2:00 until 4:00 and 7:00 until 9:00 PM in the funeral home.

The family requests flowers be omitted and contributions made to the Lawson Family Educational Trust, c/o Spencer savings Bank, 176 Main Street, Spencer, MA 01562.
