WORCESTER - Catherine F. (Lynch) Sullivan, 92, of 485 Grove St., retired advertising worker, formerly of Westfield, died Friday, April 5, in the Jewish Healthcare Center.

Her husband of 53 years, Donald B. Sullivan, died in 1989. She leaves a son, Barry A. Sullivan of Burke, Va.; a daughter, Sharon E. Leary of Worcester; three grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Ware, daughter of Henry A. and Francis (Sullivan) Lynch, and lived many years in Springfield and 47 years in Westfield, before moving to Worcester in 1989. She graduated from Commerce High School in Springfield, and graduated from Northeastern University in Boston in 1931.

Mrs. Sullivan worked many years in the advertising department at Stanhome Inc. in Westfield, retiring in 1974.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, and was a former member of St. Mary's Church in Westfield.

The funeral will be held Monday, April 8, from Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove St. Burial will be in St Michael's Cemetery, Springfield. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 7, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Notre Dame Academy Library Fund, 425 Salisbury St., Worcester, MA 01609.

Norma E. Thompson

BERLIN - Norma E. (Peterson) Thompson, 74, of 80 Coburn Road and Dunnelton, Fla., died Thursday, April 4, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center, after a long illness. Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton, is directing arrangements, which are incomplete.

Amelia M. Vaitkunas

ATHOL - Amelia M. (Bendenskas) Vaitkunas, 82, of 93 Jones St., retired assembler, died Friday, April 5, at home, after an illness.

Her husband of 31 years, Joseph Vaitkunas, died in 1971. She leaves a son, John J. Vaitkunas of Bow, N.H.; a daughter, Patricia A. Wilson of Manlius, N.Y.; and four grandchildren. Three sisters, Dorothy Wragge, Adella Parsons and Lucille Bukowski, predeceased her. She was born in Athol, daughter of Joseph and Anna (Ludzus) Bendenskas. She attended Athol schools.

Mrs. Vaitkunas worked 19 years at L. S. Starrett Company, retiring in 1981 as an assembler in the indicator department. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church and its Women's Guild, and the Athol Golden Agers. She enjoyed oil painting, and had traveled extensively in Europe and Asia.

The funeral will be held Monday, April 8, from J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., with Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 105 Main St. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 7, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Church Building Fund, 105 Main St., Athol, MA 01331; or to Athol Memorial Hospital, 2033 Main Street, Athol, MA 01331.

Mary S. Whitfield, 84

LEOMINSTER - Mary S. (Catletta) Whitfield, 84, of 63 Lincoln Terrace, formerly of Lancaster, died Friday, April 5, in HealthAlliance Leominster Hospital after an illness.

She leaves a stepdaughter, June Hill of Oklahoma; nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. Two brothers, Antonio and Italio Catletta, and three sisters, Flora Valera and Lena Cannavino, both of Leominster, and Margaret Giancola of Marlboro, predeceased her. She was born in Leominster, daughter of Francesco and Giovannina (Tizzani) Catletta, and lived in Leominster before moving to Lancaster and then returning to Leominster.

Mrs. Whitfield worked at Foster Grant Co. She was a member of St. Anna's Church.

The funeral Mass will be at noon Monday, April 8, in St. Anna's Church, 194 Lancaster St. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. M.A. Simard and Son Funeral Home, 14 Walker St., is directing funeral arrangements.

Alice M. Wrenn, 89

WORCESTER - Alice M. (McGinn) Wrenn, 89, formerly of Brookline Street, died Wednesday, April 3, in St. Mary's Healthcare Center.

Her husband of 52 years, Edmund J. Wrenn, died in 1994. She leaves a son, Thomas M. Wrenn of Spencer; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. A son, Edmund J. Wrenn Jr., died in 1991. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Thomas and Rose (Barry) Wrenn.

Mrs. Wrenn was a longtime member of Our Lady of the Angels Church.

The funeral will be held Saturday, April 6, from Callahan Brothers Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St. (www.callahanbrothers.com), with a Mass at 9 a.m. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St. Burial will be in New Howard Cemetery, Sutton. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 5, in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to UMass Memorial Foundation, Alzheimer's Research Fund, 16 Shaffner St., Worcester, MA 01605.

Irene Arpin, 83

DUDLEY - Irene (Chauvin) Arpin, 83, of 44 West Main St., died Wednesday, April 3, in Lanessa Healthcare Center in Webster, after a short illness.

Her husband of 44 years, Joseph M. Arpin, died in 1983. She leaves two daughters, Rhea Parker of Dudley, with whom she lived and Jean Ciesluk of Plymouth; a brother, Bernard Chauvin of Webster; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A son, Joseph Arpin; and six siblings, predeceased her. She was born in Thompson, daughter of Albert and Georgeanna (Gauthier) Chauvin, and lived many years in Webster, 15 years in Southbridge, and 13 years in Dudley.

Mrs. Arpin was an assistant floor lady at Sandlerette Shoe Factory for many years, retiring in 1970. She was a lifelong communicant of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Webster.

The funeral will be held Saturday, April 6, from Bartel Funeral Home & Chapel, 33 Schofield Ave., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 18 East Main St., Webster. Burial will follow in St. George cemetery in Southbridge. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 5, in the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140; or to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720.

Loretta C. Barrows, 88

GARDNER - Loretta C. (Daneault) Barrows, 88, of Gardner, formerly of 125 Connors St., died Tuesday, April 2, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center, Worcester, after a brief illness.

Her husband, Milton L. Barrows, died in 1981. She leaves two daughters, Judith B. Blais and Claire L. Bishop, both of Gardner; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Her siblings predeceased her. She was born in Gardner, daughter of Donat and Clarice (Hebert) Daneault, and lived 60 years in South Royalston before returning to Gardner in 1994.

Mrs. Barrows worked at George Bent Co., retiring in 1979. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church. She enjoyed reading and dancing.

The funeral will be held Friday, April 5, from Lamoureux-Fletcher Community Funeral Home, 105 Central St. (www.fletcherfuneralhomes.com), with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, Nichols Street. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, South Royalston. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 4, in the funeral home. Olive E. Berthiaume, 92

WORCESTER - Olive E. Berthiaume, 92, formerly of 40 Belmont St., died Tuesday, April 2, in Clark Manor Health Care Center, 1350 Main St.

She leaves several nephews and nieces, including Nancy A. Legere of Whitefield, Maine and Pearl R. Monette of Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandnephews and grandnieces. A brother, Augustus Berthiaume of Burlington; and a sister, Eva E. Grenier of Worcester, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Nazaire and Roseanna (Grenon) Berthiaume. She lived in Millbury before returning to Worcester 37 years ago.

Miss Berthiaume was a stitcher for 50 years for area textile companies, retiring in 1974. She was a former member of Our Lady of Fatima Church.

A memorial Mass will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in Marlboro. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 7 Auburn St., Worcester, MA 01605. Dirsa-Morin Funeral Home, 298 Grafton St. (www.worcesterfuneral.com), is directing funeral arrangements.

Sherman A. Hauber, 88

MILLBURY - Sherman A. Hauber, 88, of Millbury, formerly of Savona, N.Y., and Rochester, N.Y., a World War II veteran and a former business owner, died Tuesday, April 2, in Providence House Nursing Home.

His wife of 58 years, Louise (Scudder) Hauber, died in 1993. He leaves two daughters, Linda Ann Campbell of Millbury and Mary L. Brown of Rochester; a son, John D. Hauber of Rochester; a sister, Anita Leonard of Savona; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; nephews and nieces. He was born in Campbell, N.Y., son of John E. and Marion (Grenolds) Hauber, and graduated from Savona Central School. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Hauber owned J.E. Hauber & Son Grocery Store in Savona. He was involved in community service organizations in Savona and was a volunteer fireman. He was an active member of Savona Federated Church and later a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Rochester. He enjoyed gardening and sports, especially baseball.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, in Savona Federated Church, Church Street, Savona. Burial will be at the family's convenience. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701; or another charity. Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. (www.mulhane.com), is directing local arrangements.

Sherman A. Hauber, 88

MILLBURY - Sherman A. Hauber, 88, of Millbury, formerly of Savona, N.Y., and Rochester, N.Y, died Wednesday, April 3, in Providence House Nursing Home.

Mr. Hauber owned J.E. Hauber & Son Grocery in Savona.

He was a member of Savona Federated Church, and enjoyed gardening.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, in Savona Federated Church, Church Street, Savona. Burial will be in Seamens Cemetery, Savona, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. Seager Funeral Home, Main Street, Savona, is directing arrangements.

Joseph L. Brackett, 74
Monday, April 15, 2002

WORCESTER - Joseph L. Brackett, 74, of Worcester, died Saturday, April 13, at home after a long illness.

His wife, Estelle M. (Bonin) Brackett, died in 1993. He leaves four sons, Joseph E., Michael G., Edward J. and Peter L. Brackett, all of Worcester; two daughters, Marie Y. Bugbee of Dudley and Pamela J. Brackett of Worcester; three brothers, Arthur Brackett of New Bedford, Louis Brackett of Groton, Conn., and Ernest Brackett of Worcester; three sisters, Pauline Fagean of Fitchburg, Doris Kelly of Worcester, and Irene Smith of New Bedford; 14 stepbrothers and stepsisters, all of Rockland, Maine; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A daughter, Kathy Ann Brackett of Worcester, predeceased him. A brother, George Brackett, and a sister, Beatrice Brackett, also predeceased him. He was born in Leominster, son of Arthur and Eliza (Lamoureaux) Brackett, and lived 70 years in Worcester. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Brackett worked for the Sanitation Department of Worcester, retiring in 1983. He also worked many years at Colonial Bowling Alley in Worcester.

He was a member of Christ the King Church. He was also a Sergeant-at-Arms with American Legion Tatnuck Post 288, and a was a member of the 40/1/3 Club. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and bowling.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, April 17, from Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home (www.royfuneral.com), 12 Hammond St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
