CHARLTON - John T. Monahan, 63, of 85 Hanson Road, formerly of Worcester, died Monday, June 10, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center. Funeral arrangements, under the direction of Arthur S. Manzi & Son Funeral Home and Garden Chapel, 179 Shrewsbury St., are incomplete.

Bertha T. Morano, 86

CLINTON - Bertha T. (Nicewicz) Morano, 86, of 6 Alexander Ave., formerly of 10 Schley St., died Friday, June 7, in Coachlace Healthcare Center, after an illness.

She leaves her husband of 46 years, Angelo J. Morano; two sisters, Laura Lamlein and Mary Beauregard, both of Clinton; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was born in Clinton, daughter of Julian and Catherine (Kowalczyk) Nicewicz, and attended Clinton schools.

Mrs Morano was a book examiner at the former Colonial Press for 31 years, retiring in 1977. She was a member of Our Lady of Jasna Gora Church, and was an accomplished cook and baker.

The funeral will be held Monday, June 10, from Robert J. McNally Funeral Home, 304 Church St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Jasna Gora Church, 128 Franklin St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Lancaster. Calling hours are 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 9, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Elementary School, 128 Franklin St., Clinton, MA 01510.

Clara M. Mullen, 76

AUBURN - Clara M. (Ferguson) Mullen, 76, of 46 Oakland Drive, died Tuesday, June 11, at home after an illness.

Her husband, Ralph E. Mullen, died in 1992. She leaves a son, John F. Mullen of Auburn; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was born in Worcester, daughter of George A. and Alice S. (Bjorndal) Ferguson, and lived the past 40 years in Auburn.

The graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 14, in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to VNA Care Hospice Inc., 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608. Britton - Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St. (www.brittonfuneralhomes.com), is directing arrangements.

Barbara M. Munro, 85

PRINCETON - Barbara M. (McGurn) Munro, 85, of 13 Boylston Ave., died Friday, May 31, in The Highlands long - term care center after an illness.

Her husband, Paul Munro, died in 1999. She leaves a daughter, Pam Lavoie of Princeton; a son, Stephen Munro of Batavia, Ohio; four grandchildren; a brother, David McGurn of Fitchburg; a sister, Rita Gould of Fitchburg; nieces and nephews. She was born in Fitchburg, daughter of David Patrick and Sadie (Hamer) McGurn, and lived in Fitchburg and Rindge, N.H., before moving here 10 years ago. She graduated from St. Bernard's High School in Fitchburg.

Mrs. Munro was a seamstress for Cluette & Peabody Co. of Fitchburg for several years. She ran and co - owned Mary & Barb's Variety in Fitchburg for eight years. She was a member of the Princeton Seniors and St. Bernard's Church, Fitchburg. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting and knitting.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 7, in St. Bernard's Church, 240 Water St., Fitchburg. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Fitchburg. A calling hour will be 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Friday, June 7, in Smith - Mallahy - Masciarelli Funeral Home, 243 Water St., Fitchburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wachusett House, 13 Boylston Ave., Princeton, MA 01541; or to Massachusetts Association for the Blind, 200 Ivy St., Brookline, MA 02446.

John J. Nugent Sr., 86

AUBURN - John J. Nugent Sr., 86, of the Washburn House, Worcester, formerly of 68 Pakachoag St., died Monday, June 10, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 56 years, Anne L. (Murphy) Nugent; a son, John J. Nugent Jr. of Hawthorne, Calif.; two grandchildren; several nephews and nieces. Two sisters, Elizabeth M. and Kathleen A. Nugent, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of John J. and Leonora W. (Daly) Nugent. He graduated from South High School, the College of the Holy Cross, received a master's degree in education from Clark University and a master's degree in English from Middlebury College. He was an Army Veteran of World War II.

Mr. Nugent was town treasurer for many years, retiring several years ago. Previously, he was a bank examiner for Massachusetts, and worked for American Express. He had been a teacher at Auburn High School and Georgia Tech. He was a member of North American Martyrs Church, Auburn Senior Center, Elm Hill Civic Club, Auburn Lodge of Elks, and Auburn Council of the Knights of Columbus #4158. He received the Riley Award for Community Service.

The funeral will be held Friday, June 14, from Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 9 Hammond St., Worcester (www.faybrothers.com), with a Mass at 10 a.m. in North American Martyrs Church, 8 Wyoma Drive. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 13, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North American Martyrs Church, 8 Wyoma Drive, Auburn, MA 01501.

Saimi Olly, 83

HUBBARDSTON - Saimi (Ylonen) Olly, 83, of 21 Williamsville Road, died Sunday, June 2, at home after an illness.

Her husband of 52 years, Eino A. Olly, died in 2000. She leaves a son, Allan E. Olly of Hubbardston; two daughters, Linda Hughes of Petersham and Jan Michaud of Hubbardston, with whom she lived; five grandchildren; a great - granddaughter; and a niece. A brother, Arthur Ylonen, and a sister, Irma Knappe, predeceased her. She was born in Gardner, daughter of Otto and Elsie (Kuitinen) Ylonen, and had lived in Gardner and Hubbardston for most of her life.

Mrs. Olly and her husband co - owned Olly Poultry Farm before retiring. She was a member of Hubbardston Golden Agers, Finnish Club of Saima, Finnish Club of Sovittaja, and the Order of Eastern Star in Barre. She was active for many years in civic and community affairs in Hubbardston. She participated in area bowling leagues several years ago. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed going to the theater.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 7, in Smith Funeral Home, 69 Vernon St., Gardner. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Hubbardston. Calling hours are 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday, June 7, in the funeral home. Donations may be made to Hubbardston Rescue Squad, Main Street, Hubbardston, MA 01452; or to Gardner Visiting Nursing Association and Hospice, 34 Pearly Lane, Gardner, MA 01440.

John J. Oroszko, 84

WORCESTER - John J. Oroszko, 84, of 16 Kelly Square, a World War II veteran and a retired crane operator, died Sunday, June 9, at home.

He leaves a brother, Vincent A. Oroszko of Worcester; nephews and nieces. Five brothers, Stanley, Charles, Joseph, Frank and Benjamin Oroszko, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Joseph and Mary (Wasilewski) Oroszko. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, including the Battle of the Bulge.

Mr. Oroszko was a crane operator more than 10 years for Thomas Smith Co., retiring in 1985. Previously, he was a crane operator for 10 years for Rafferty Steel Co. He was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, June 12, from Henry - Dirsa Funeral Home, 33 Ward St. (www.worcesterfuneral.com), with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. A calling hour is 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Czestochowa Memorial Fund, 34 Ward St., Worcester, MA 01610.

Helen M. Palumbo, 85

TOWNSEND - Helen M. (Hemeon) Palumbo, 85, of 43 Brookline St., died Monday, June 10, in the Highlands in Fitchburg.

Her husband, Vito G. Palumbo, died in 1993. She leaves four sisters, Gertrude Ciarlone of Chelsea, Elizabeth Frazier of Everett, Doris Davis of Franklin and Mildred Nickerson of Malden. A brother, Alfred R. Hemeon; and a sister, Theresa Bradbrook, predeceased her. She was born in Everett, daughter of Frederick and Mildred (DuLong) Hemeon, and had lived in Townsend for 39 years.

Mrs. Palumbo worked for 26 years as an inspector at Foster Grant, retiring in 1978. She was a former member of the 25 - Year Club of Foster Grant, and the Eastwood Club. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 14, in St. John the Evangelist Church, 1 School St. Burial will be in Pratt Cemetery, Mason, N.H. A calling hour is 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, June 14, in T.J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 250 Main St.

Dora Patenaude, 79

OXFORD - Dora (Thibeault) Patenaude, 79, of Bartlett Street, a retired cafeteria worker, died Wednesday, June 12, in Life Care Center of Auburn after an illness.

Her husband of 48 years, Normand "Pat" Patenaude Sr., died in 1996. She leaves a son, Normand G. Patenaude Jr. of Oxford; two brothers, Leonard Thibeault of Spencer and Roger Thibeault of North Oxford; three sisters, Clara Langlois and Rena Bond, both of Charlton, and Cecil Parker of the Fiskdale section of Sturbridge; two grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Oxford, daughter of Rene and Laura (Arrell) Thibeault.

Mrs. Patenaude was a cafeteria worker for the Oxford school system, retiring in 1995. She was a member of St. Roch's Church and American Legion Auxiliary Post 58.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 14, in St. Roch's Church, 332 Main St. Burial will be in St. Roch's Cemetery. A calling hour is 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, June 14, in Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St. (www.paradisfuneralhome.com). Amelia E. Pearson, 71

SUTTON - Amelia E. (Leyh) Pearson, 71, of 27 DeWitt Road, died Thursday, June 13, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after being stricken ill at home.

She leaves her husband of 46 years, Rudolph E. Pearson; three sons, David E., Benjamin E. and Andrew E. Pearson, all of Sutton; three daughters, Christine E. Pearson and Nancy E. Troy, both of Sutton, and Marie E. Rochon of Douglas; a brother, Michael Danks of New York; and nine grandchildren. She was born in New York, daughter of George and Hanorah M. (Collins) Leyh, and lived in Sutton for 46 years. She graduated from New York City Foundling Hospital School of Nursing.

Mrs. Pearson had been a nurse at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester. She was a member of First Congregational Church, where she was active in the choir, church suppers, bake sales, and various fund - raisers.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15, in First Congregational Church, Boston Road. Burial will be in West Sutton Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 14, in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury (www.mulhane.com). Donations may be made to the First Congregational Church, Boston Road, Sutton, MA 01590.

Joseph D. Pelletier, 77

STERLING - Joseph D. Pelletier, 77, of 30 Sholan Terrace, a World War II veteran, died Monday, June 3, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center, Worcester, after being stricken ill.

He leaves a nephew and several cousins. He was born in West Warwick, R.I., son of Omer and Maria R. (Rivard) Pelletier, and lived in Clinton most of his life. He graduated from New Bedford High School. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Pelletier was a machine operator at ITT Suprenant in Clinton for 30 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Richard of Chichester Church.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 6, in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Warwick. There are no calling hours. Philbin - Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton, is directing arrangements.

Janice M. Poutry, 62
Thursday, June 13, 2002

HARVARD - Janice M. (Crossman) Poutry, 62, of Harvard, died Tuesday, June 11, at home.

She leaves her husband of 42 years, David M. Poutry; a son, Martin D. Poutry of Ayer; and two grandchildren, Julianna and Andrew Poutry, both of Ayer. She was born in Marlboro, daughter of William J. and Marion D. (Martin) Crossman, and attended school in Clinton. She graduated from a Lancaster high school.

Mrs. Poutry was an operator for New England Telephone and Telegraph. She also was a secretary for the family business. She was a member of Harvard Sportsman's Club and was active with the Ayer, Harvard, Shirley Rotary Club. She enjoyed cooking and traveling.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 14, from Badger Funeral Home, 347 King St., Littleton, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Theresa's Church, Still River Road. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, June 13, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ayer, Harvard, Shirley Rotary Club, PO Box 239, Ayer, MA 01432.
