Russell J. Cleary
May 19, 1916 - December 10, 2005
Auburn - Russell J. Cleary, 89, son of the late Ignatius and Ella Cleary, passed away on Saturday morning.
He was born in Auburn, MA on May 19, 1916. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy LaBarge, and his daughter, Nancy LeBreton.
Survived by his sister, Eleanor Perron, and his son, Robert J. Cleary, he also leaves five grandchildren: Kevin LeBreton, Mark LeBreton, Nancy Clark, Deborah Grady, and Brian LeBreton, and nine great - grandchildren.
Mr. Cleary worked at Leland & Gifford, Crompton & Knowles, and had been an Enforcement Officer for Marine & Recreational Vehicles. He served as president of, and chaired many committees at, the Auburn Sportsman's Club. He also served as a delegate to the Worcester County League of Sportsman's and Mass Council of Sportsman's Clubs. He was president of Marine and Recreational Vehicles Union, and was their delegate to C.O.P.S. He was a former member of the Council on Aging, a Committee Member and Explorer Advisor for Post 53, and also served as Assistant Commissioner for Council.
Mr. Cleary was a past member of the Auburn Democratic Committee and received the Democrat of the Year Achievement Award. He also received an award from the Secretary of State for voting in every election for over fifty years. He loved to hunt and fish, and he was also an avid card player, running pitch and cribbage parties at the Lorraine Gleick Nordgren Senior Center.
It is his wish that there be no funeral or calling hours. A Graveside Service will be held Monday at 11:00 AM in Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lorraine Gleick Nordgren Senior Center, 4 Goddard Drive, Auburn, MA 01501.

Donald R. Apholt
August 28, 1927 - March 10, 2007
HUBBARDSTON - Donald R. Apholt, 79, of Williamsville Rd. and formerly of Shrewsbury, died Saturday, March 10th in UMass Memorial Hospital, Worcester.
He leaves his wife of 18 years, Barbara A. (Puzo) Apholt; his children, Donald Apholt, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Oakham, Pamela J. Apholt of Worcester, Mark D. Apholt and his wife Melinda of Holden, Maria A. Gallagher and her husband John of Worcester, Kim Magnuson of Leominster, Debra Robinson of Hubbardston, and Sandra Thorpe and her husband Douglas of Hubbardston. He was the "Grumpy grandpa" to his 19 grandchildren, Ian, Josh, Lauren, Matthew, Kate, Carly, Olivia, Jake, Connor, Hunter, Maire, Cole, Cory, Kevin, Chris, Joshua, Elijah, Michael and Sean, and to his four great - grandchildren. He is also survived by his two sisters, Mary Turner and Judie Locke, both of Belmont, and his brother Paul Apholt of Auburndale. He was predeceased by his first wife, Leah A. (Bacchiochi) Apholt and his step - son, Richard Magnuson.
He was born in Worcester, son of the late George and Irene (Rea) Apholt and lived in Shrewsbury for many years before moving to the Holden and later Hubbardston areas. Don left high school early to join the US Navy during World War II as an underage enlistee. He served in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Princeton, survived several fierce air battles and watched as his ship was sunk. He worked for more than 50 years as a member of Local 96, I.A.T.S.E. and had served as their secretary/treasurer for more than 30 years. He was also the owner of the former Showtime Services, a trade show display company for 15 years.
He was a member of Saint Matthew's Episcopal Church, Worcester and the Matthew J. Whittall Lodge of Masons, Shrewsbury, most recently attending Christ Church Episcopal in South Barre. He loved to travel and enjoyed being known as the grumpy grandpa, cool uncle and great Dad to his whole family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, March 12th from 4 - 7 PM in Britton - Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury His funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 13th from the funeral home with a funeral service at 10 AM in Saint Matthew's Episcopal Church, 695 Southbridge St., (at Cambridge St.), Worcester. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.

Dorothy M. (Knowlton) Wilson
August 11, 1915 - April 8, 2007
AUBURN, MA - Dorothy M. (Knowlton), 91, of Whitney Circle, died Sunday, April 8th in University Commons, Worcester.
Her husband, Harold S. Wilson died in 1984.
She leaves her son, Richard P. Wilson of Auburn; her sister, Marion F. MacMillan of Auburn, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Earl and Everett Knowlton, and by her sister, Mildred Bjork.
She was born in Framingham, daughter of the late Earl and Florence D. (Berg) Knowlton. She graduated from Commerce High School, Worcester, and has lived here since 1952.
Mrs. Wilson worked many years ago for the former New England Telephone and Telegraph Company in the Auburn office. She was longtime member of the First Congregational Church in Auburn, where she was active in the Women's Fellowship Group. An accomplished self - taught artist, Mrs. Wilson enjoyed painting in oils and pastels, and has created many beautiful stained glass and wood carved bird pieces. She liked to garden and still was enjoying sewing.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visiting hour with Dot's family on Wednesday, April 11th from 10 - 11 AM in Britton - Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn. A funeral service will then be held at 11 AM in the funeral home, followed by burial in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.

Edith Mae Brunelle
July 9, 1917 - August 6, 2007
AUBURN - Edith M. (Adshead) Brunelle, 90, of Auburn and South Dennis, died Monday, August 6th in Holy Trinity Orthodox Nursing Home, Worcester after an illness.
Her husband, Robert A. Brunelle, Sr. died in 1990. She is survived by two sons, Robert A. Brunelle, Jr. of Vero Beach, Florida and Daniel E. Brunelle of Worcester; two daughters, Marcia J. Ofcarcik of Auburn and Paula M. Brunelle of Studio City, California; 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Richard Adshead.
Mrs. Brunelle was born in Auburn, daughter of the late Ernest Adshead, Jr., and Mary Alice (Murray) Adshead and had lived many years in Auburn and 8 years in South Dennis. She moved back to Auburn after her husband's death in 1990 to be surrounded by her family.
Edith graduated from South High School in Worcester and then later in life enrolled in the Nursing Program at David Hale Fanning Trade School. She worked for 12 years as an L.P.N. at the former Hahnemann Hospital, Worcester before retiring.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Edith's family on Thursday, August 9th from 9 AM to 10:30 AM in Britton - Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn. Her funeral will follow with a Mass celebrated at 11 AM in Saint Joseph Church, 189 Oxford St., Auburn. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Nursing Home Hospice Program, 300 Barber Ave., Worcester, MA 01606 or to the Sterling Animal Shelter, 17 Laurelwood Rd., Sterling, MA 01564.

Elizabeth Ann McPherson
June 10, 1945 - March 11, 2007
Elizabeth A. McPherson - of Marlborough, March 11th. Beloved mother of Kenneth W. O'Neil, Jr. of Bolton and Robin A. O'Neil - Manning, of Northborough. Loving daughter of Gloria A. (Hayes) McPherson of Watertown and Charles McPherson of Rockland. Cherished Grandmother, of Andrea, Denis, Nicholas, William and Stefanie. Loving sister, of Donald, George, Charles, and Kevin. Frances T. (Mulholland) Cellucci
June 26, 1916 - September 26, 2006
SHREWSBURY - Frances J. (Mulholland) Cellucci, 90, a longtime Shrewsbury High School teacher, died Tuesday evening at home.
Her husband of 52 years, Arthur B. Cellucci died in 1993. Her only brother, John J. Mulholland died in 1993.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews, as well several grand nieces and nephews.
She also leaves several dedicated care givers, including Abena Odame.
She was born in Shrewsbury, the daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary T. (McDonnell) Mulholland and has lived here all of her life. She graduated from Shrewsbury schools and Our Lady of the Elms College, Springfield, Class of 1939.
Mrs. Cellucci retired from the Shrewsbury School Department, where she had worked as a high school teacher for more than 30 years.
She was a member of Saint Mary's Parish in Shrewsbury.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, September 30th from 11 - 12 Noon at the Britton - Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury for a visitation. A funeral Mass will then be celebrated at 12:30 PM in St, Mary's Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.

George A. Forzley
November 8, 1922 - February 2, 2007
WORCESTER - George A. Forzley, 84, of Dutton Street, formerly of Virginia, a longtime U. S. Postal Service industrial engineer, died Friday February 2 2007 in the UMASS Memorial Medical Center, 119 Belmont Street, after an illness.
He leaves his wife Barbara I. (Price) Forzley, of Worcester, and a sister Laurice Arbeeny, of Staten Island, NY, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother Dr. Edward Forzley.
He was born in Canada, the son of the late Fred and Rose (Forzley) Forzley; he received his Associates Degree from Worcester Junior College, and later his BSIE Degree from Northeastern University, and his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Rochester.
Mr. Forzley served in the U.S. Army, during WWII, with the 3rd Army Field Artillery Observation Battalion; he fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and Rhine and in Germany.
He worked for many years as an industrial engineer for the U.S. Postal Service in Washington, D.C. for many years, where after his retirement he served on the Board of Directors of the U.S. Postal Workers Credit Union.
He was a member of the Morning Star Lodge of Masons in Worcester, and the Aleppo Shriners in Boston.
He was an avid sports fan and Washington Redskins Fan. He coached and umpired little league baseball for many years. He loved to wok in his garden, and he was a long time volunteer at Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church VA
George embodied the words honor, integrity and family values, he was a tireless advocate of the value of education and self - betterment; he was an inspiration to all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours from 5 - 8 PM on Tuesday February 6, 2007 in the Britton - Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St. Auburn. His funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday in Saint Matthews Church, 695 Southbridge Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Worcester.

Alfred E. Green
May 29, 2006
Alfred E. Green, 83, of Shrewsbury, died at home on May 29th after a long illness.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara (Janson) Green; sons, Reverend Dr. Douglas J. Green of Ithaca N.Y., Bradford F. Green of Shrewsbury and his wife Virginia; and a daughter, Nancy Green Burnett of Shrewsbury and her husband Paul H. Burnett; along with 6 grandchildren, Edward and Alan Burnett, Ryan and Jaime Green, and Rebecca and Matthew Green. He is also survived by a sister, Janet Dean of Shrewsbury and her husband Randall.
Mr. Green was born in Worcester, the son of Clifford and Katharine (Davis) Green. He was a graduate of Worcester Academy, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and the first class of the WPI School of Industrial Management. He was a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity.
He was a Navy Lieutenant and veteran of World War II, serving as chief engineering officer aboard the USS Parker in the Pacific Theatre.
A registered professional engineer, he founded Process Heating Corporation, a local manufacturing company.
AI was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury, serving as Church Treasurer, chairman of the Endowment Committee, and chairman of the church's 275th anniversary celebration.
He was a long time member of the Worcester Country Club where he served as Secretary and on the Board of Governors, and also a 50 - year member of the Matthew John Whittall Masonic Lodge.
Al was named to the Worcester Academy Board of Trustees where he was elected Vice President, Co - Chair of the 2002 Capital Campaign, and Trustee Emeritus until the time of his death.
He was involved with WPI as a 25 year member of the Alumni Association Investment Committee. He also served on the President's Advisory Council and the Alumni Association, receiving the Herbert F. Taylor Award for distinguished service. He served as president as the Tech Old Timers.
His volunteer work included an appointed position as a Shrewsbury Sewer Commissioner for forty years. A former Town Meeting Member, he was also Vice Chair of the Shrewsbury Bicentennial Celebration Committee.
Al was an avid golfer, sailor, and skier. He especially enjoyed Cape Cod, New Hampshire, and his summer home in Marion, Massachusetts where he was a member of Kittansett Golf Club and the Beverly Yacht club.

Helen M. (Dumas) Lynch
October 16, 1925 - September 3, 2007
WORCESTER - Helen M. (Dumas) Lynch, 81, of Carter Road, and formerly of Auburn, died Monday September 3rd in the Knollwood Nursing Center, after an illness.
She leaves her beloved husband George F. Lynch with whom she would have celebrated 59 years of marriage on September 11th ; her son, Thomas P. Lynch of Worcester; her daughter, Patricia M. Shattuck and her husband Douglas of Woodstock, CT; her two brothers, Francis Dumas, and Robert Dumas both of Worcester; her sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Dockery of Bowie, MD and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, James J. Lynch in 1999.
She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Alfred and Emma F. (Gerin) Dumas, and graduated from Grafton High School, Class of 1943.
Mrs. Lynch worked as an operator and later in the engineering department of the Worcester office of New England Telephone Company, until her retirement in 1988.
She was a longtime member of Saint Joseph's Parish, where she had been active in the former Women's League and worked for many years a volunteer in the former parish Thrift Shop. She also enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox with her husband.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, September 6th from 5 - 8 PM in the Britton - Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn. Her funeral will be held Friday from the funeral home with a Mass celebrated at 10 AM in the Church of Saint Joseph, 189 Oxford St., Auburn. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.

James P. "Jim" Palmer
September 17, 1920 - August 23, 2007
SHREWSBURY - James P. "Jim" Palmer, 86, of Shrewsbury, died Thursday, August 23rd in Knollwood Nursing Center in Worcester after an illness.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Josephine E. (Zuk) Palmer; a son, Robert A. Palmer and his wife, Denise M. of Shrewsbury; a daughter, Michelle D. Capalbo and her husband, Peter A. of Shrewsbury; two grandchildren, Nicole C. and Brian A. Capalbo both of Shrewsbury. He was predeceased by 6 siblings.
Jim was born in Worcester, son of the late George and Mary (Hubbard) Palmer and had lived in Shrewsbury for 23 years. Mr. Palmer proudly served his country with the United States Navy during W.W. II having been involved in the European - African - Middle Eastern Theatre, Asiatic Pacific Theatre and the Philippine Liberation.
Mr. Palmer owned and operated Jim Palmer Landscaping Co., in Shrewsbury for 25 years before he retired in 1985. As a landscaper, you usually could find Jim in his spare time in his own back yard tending to his beautiful gardens. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was member of the D.A.V. and was a former member of the Adelphi Council # 4181 of the Knights of Columbus in Shrewsbury.
The Palmer family wishes to extend many thanks to all of the healthcare workers, nurses, and doctors at Summit Elder Care, Saint Vincent Hospital and Knollwood Nursing Center for their many hours of compassionate care that was given to Jim and his family during his illness.
Family and friends are invited to visit with the Palmer family on Sunday, August 26th from 3 - 5 PM in the Britton - Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 27th at 10 A.M. in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Burial with military honors will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
