Hazel Mulvey, 92

Osterville - Hazel Jenkins Mulvey, 92, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999 at the Olympus Healthcare Center in Falmouth after a long illness.

She was the wife of the late Thomas P. Mulvey.

Born and raised in Canada, she graduated from nursing school in Boston and worked as a private nurse in the Boston area.

Mrs. Mulvey moved to Osterville in 1946 and worked for The Resthaven Nursing Home in Hyannis for a number of years. She was active in Girl Scouts.

She is survived by two daughters, Judith Ashmore of Falmouth and Lynne Lindley of Osterville, a sister, Willa Wilson of New Brunswick, Canada; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Christopher Pignati, 79

Centerville - Christopher Pignati, 79, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999 at Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Community Pavilion in Hyannis.

He was the husband of Violet M. (Bregartner) Pignati for 56 years.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Pignati served in the Armed Forces during World War II. He raised his family in Garden City, Long Island, N.Y., and Chatham, N.J.

He retired from Chubb & Son insurance Co. and moved to Centerville 15 years ago.

Mr. Pignati enjoyed bowling on a league in Hyannis, gardening and bird watching. He also did beautiful woodworking, and supplied the Thornton W. Burgess Society and Pairpoint Crystal Working Glass Museum with cup plate frames for many years.

Surviving besides his wife are four daughters, Barbara Cassini of Sandwich, Darre Mattie of Los Osos, Calif., Christine Mills of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Gail Duchamp of Morristown, N.J.; a brother, Frank Pignata of Rescue, Calif.; a sister, Marie Pulese of East Meadow, Long Island, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, Long Island, N.Y.

Howard W. Sears, 87

Osterville - Howard W. "Pop" Sears, 87, former clerk/treasurer for the Town of Barnstable, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999.

He was the husband of the late Agnes (Derwin) Sears.

Born in Orleans, he attended West Barnstable Grammar School and graduated from Barnstable High School in 1929. He worked for Everett & Walter Fuller in Osterville doing accounting and insurance.

He served many years in different phases of government for the Town of Barnstable, first as welfare agent, as tax collector from 1947 to 1953 and as clerk/treasurer from 1953 to 1975.

Mr. Sears served on the board and as chairman of the board of the Barnstable County National Bank, now Fleet Bank, from 1975 until 12 years ago. He was the first president of Barnstable Little League Baseball and active in many other civic and sports organizations, including the Kennedy Memorial Skating Rink, Townies Baseball, Barnstable Boosters Club and Barnstable Junior Baseball. He also served as treasurer for the Kennedy Memorial Trust Fund Committee.

Surviving are a daughter, Sandra Baldini of Osterville; two sons, Howard W. Sears Jr. of Manetta, Ga., and Robert Sears of Brookline; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Mosswood Cemetery, Cotuit.

Lauren Youlden, 28

Centerville - Lauren Leigh Youlden, 28, a Centerville resident, formerly of Marstons Mills, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999 at her grandparents' Palm Bay, Fla., home after a long illness.

She was the daughter of Garrett S. and Janice (Sweeney) Youlden of Marstons Mills.

Raised in Sudbury and Sherborn, Miss Youlden moved to Marstons Mills when she was a high school sophomore. She was a graduate of Barnstable High School, where she played soccer and participated in track and field. A graduate of Cape Cod Community College, she later attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She looked forward to a career as a massage therapist.

Miss Youlden had studied ballet while living in Sherborn, and enjoyed working out and aerobics. She liked horseback riding, skiing, cooking, painting with watercolors and writing short stories.

Besides her parents, survivors include her sister, Kristin L. Taddei of Fall Brook, Calif.; her maternal grandparents, Edward S. and Frances (Gregware) Sweeney of Palm Bay, Fla.; her paternal grandparents; Robert E. and Helen (Scheibel) Youlden of Hobe Sound, Fla.; a nephew; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Burial was in Mosswood Cemetery.

Carl G. Anderson, 93

West Hyannisport - Carl G. Anderson, 93, a former toolmaker, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999 at the Cape Regency nursing home.

He was the husband of Gladys B. (Voss) Anderson, who died in 1998.

Mr. Anderson was born in Somerville. He worked as a toolmaker for Wickwire Spencer in Worcester. For the past 28 years, Mr. Anderson divided his time between his homes in Auburn and West Hyannisport.

He was a member of the Joel H. Prouty Masonic Lodge, a past patron of Pakachoag Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, past president of the Hyannis Progressive Club and past president of the Auburn Garden Club.

He is survived by two sons, Robert C. Anderson of Auburn and Centerville and Carl A. Anderson of Webster; a daughter, Marion L. Johnson of South Yarmouth; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Burial was at the New Sweden Cemetery, Worcester.

Elinor M. Bennett, 80

Swampscott - Elinor M. Bennett, 80, a former Lynn District Court clerk, died Friday, Jan. 29, 199 at Salem Hospital after a brief illness.

She was the wife of the late Paul W. Bennett.

Mrs. Bennett was born in Lynn and was a 1936 graduate of Lynn Classical High School and Burdett College.

She lived in Swampscott for more than 50 years. Mrs. Bennett worked at the former Lynn Gas and Electric Co. and the Willard D. Martin Co. She then was employed as a clerk at the Lynn District Court formore than 25 years until her 1997 retirement.

She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Swampscott and a member of the State, County and Municipal Employees Association. She was a former den mother for Cub Scouts in Swampscott.

She is survived by three sons, Paul W. Bennett Jr. of Stoneham, Carl R. Bennett of Swampscott and David T. Bennett of Centerville; three brothers, J. Richard Bath of Nahant and New Hampshire., William Bath of St. Augustine, Fla., and James P. Bath of Merrimac, N.H.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Swampscott Cemetery.

Thomas H. Burns, 75

Centerville - Thomas H. Burns, 75, died unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

He was the husband of Alexis (Carter) Burns.

Born and raised in Newton, he was a graduate of Newton High School.

Mr. Burns joined the Army Air Corps in 1943. A radio operator and gunner, he fought with the Squadron B 3539th Army Air Unit in the European Theater aboard the B-17 Liberty Belle. He completed 26 missions and was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross and an Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters. He was discharged as a tech sergeant in 1945.

After the war, Mr. Burns earned a bachelor's degree from the Museum School in Boston. He moved to Westwood and later to Winchester, working for 25 years as a manager at the Delco division of General Motors.

Mr. Burns then returned to Newton and joined the family business, John T. Burns Real Estate of Newton, where he worked as a broker. He retired to Centerville in 1994.

An avid golfer, he was a member of the Charles River Country Club in Newton and later the Olde Barnstable Fairgrounds Golf Course.

Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Barbara Logue of Pittsboro, N.C., Janice Bowditch of New York City and Judith McCormick of Chaddsford, Pa.; four brothers, Ralph Burns of Los Angeles, Leo Burns of Plant City, Fla., Joseph Burns of Framingham and Gael Burns of South Natick; two sisters, Marguerite Burns of Newton and Nancy Lane of Marco Island, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Edward E. DeYoung, Sr., 78

Hyannis - Edward E. DeYoung Sr., 78, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999 at Cape Cod Hospital.

He was the husband of Lorraine C. (Fournier) DeYoung.

Mr. DeYoung was born and raised in Weymouth and graduated from Wentworth Institute with a degree in machine design.

He lived in Hyannis for the last 30 years, moving from Brockton.

He is survived by six children, John DeYoung of Lowell, Edward DeYoung Jr. of Era, Texas , Steven DeYoung of Harwich, Philip DeYoung of Marstons Mills, Mary Edwards of Hyannis and Norene Fair of Bedford, N.H.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Kathryn M. Kraus

Hyannis - Kathryn M. (Kirkpatrick) Kraus died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999 at the Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Community-Pavilion in Hyannis.

Born in McDonald's Point, New Brunswick, Canada, Mrs. Kraus was raised in Newton. She was a resident of the Cape for 50 years, living in Yarmouthport and Hyannis.

Mrs. Kraus worked in housekeeping at Whitehall Manor Nursing Home and Falmouth Nursing Home. She retired 10 years ago.

Surviving are a son, Richard Arlie Kraus of West Barnstable; a daughter, Karen A. Davignon of Cotuit; a sister, Vehna Rail of Montreal, Quebec; and five grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Cape Cod, 923 Route 6A, Yarmouthport, MA 02675.

Wayne S. Marshall, 47

Dover-Foxcroft, Maine - Wayne S. Marshall, 47, formerly of Hyannis, died Dec. 31, 1998 at his home after a long illness with cancer.

He was the husband of Heidi Marshall.

Besides his wife, survivors include three sons, Jason Marshall, Justin Marshall and Jesse Marshall of Newburg, Ore.; his mother, Frances Marshall of Dover-Foxcroft; a sister, Carol Perry of Hyannis; and many nieces and nephews.
