Arthur A. Corcoran, 96

Marstons Mills - Arthur A. Corcoran, 96, a former chief engineer and assistant manager, died Saturday, March 27,1999 at the Cape Regency Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Centerville.

He was the husband of the late Elinore (Duffy) Corcoran.

Born in Boston, Mr. Corcoran was educated at MIT and Northeastern University. He was the chief engineer and assistant manager for the Exxon Refinery in Everett until retiring in 1961. Mr. Corcoran was a member of the Massachusetts Professional Engineers and a life member of the Norfolk Trout Club and the Elks Club. He moved to the Cape in 1981 and continued to enjoy his hobby of fly fishing.

Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Corcoran of Marstons Mills, Mary Scannell of Beverly and Elinore Swanson of Yarmouthport; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Burial was held in Oak Grove Cemetery, West Medford.

Donald F. Farrell, 82

Centerville - Donald F. Farrell, 82, died Monday, March 22, 1999 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

He was the husband of Mary Sullivan Farrell for 58 years.

Born and raised in New Haven, Conn., Mr. Farrell lived in Woodbridge, Conn., for many years before retiring to the Cape in 1981. He graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester in 1938 and served in the Navy during World War II.

Mr. Farrell served as president and treasurer of Wire Machinery Corporation of America in New Haven until his retirement.

After his retirement and relocation to the Cape, Mr. Farrell was involved for several years as a volunteer business consultant for SCORE.

He was also a past member of the Lions Club, Knights of Columbus and the Holy Cross Clubs of New Haven and Cape Cod.

Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Sister Barbara-Ann Farrell, D.H.S. of Bridgeport. Conn., and Irene E. Farrell of Centerville; a son, Donald E Farrell Jr. of Quincy; three sisters, Grace Farrell of Milford, Conn., Delphine Miller of West Haven, Conn., and Elizabeth Murray of Louisville, Ky.; and a granddaughter.

Anna D. Kennedy

Centerville - Anna D. (Whalen) Kennedy, a retired businesswoman, died Monday, March 22, 1999 at the Eagle Pond Rehabilitation & Living Center in South Dennis.

She was the wife of Richard J. Kennedy.

Born in Boston, Mrs. Kennedy was a graduate of St. Peter & Paul High School.

She lived in Springfield until 1951 when she and her husband moved to Westfield and bought a hardware store. They retired in 1971 and moved to Centerville.

Mrs. Kennedy was a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church and a member of the Women's Guild. She was also a member of the Hyannis Garden Club and enjoyed craft work and home decorating.

Besides her husband of more than 60 years, Mrs. Kennedy is survived by three sisters, Helen Whalen and Margaret Cameron, both of Dorchester, and Katherine Manzo of Hudson; and many nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Eileen M. Murphy, 75

Centerville - Eileen M. Murphy, 75, retired law librarian of General Motors Corp. and its first female attorney, died Friday, March 26, 1999 at the Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care­Pavilion after a long illness.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Ms. Murphy graduated from St. John's University with both undergraduate and law degrees and received a master's degree in library science from Pratt Institute. She also studied studio and fine arts at Pratt and was an accomplished artist.

During her career, she also worked for the U.S. Department of Justice, taught at the University of Connecticut Law School and served in many posts of the American Association of Law Librarians.

A lifetime summer resident of the Cape, Ms. Murphy became a full-time resident in 1972. She was co-founder and for many years an active member and officer of the Osterville Business and Professional Association.

Ms. Murphy's most rewarding work was as a founding trustee of Cape Cod Academy, an independent K-12 co-educational day school in Osterville. She served as a member of the executive committee and secretary of the board from the school's inception in 1976 until she retired due to poor health in 1987.

She is survived by a sister, Sheila E. Murphy of Osterville.

Robert W. Blanchette II, 17

Hyannisport - Robert "Robbie" W. Blanchette II, 17, son of Mary L. Woodsum of Hyannisport, and Robert W. Blanchette of Sanford, Maine, died Thursday, April 1, 1999 at his home.

Born in Boston, he lived in Yarmouthport for five years before moving to Hyannisport for the last five years. He was educated at Yarmouth and Barnstable schools.

Mr. Blanchette was a cook at the Radisson Inn in Hyannis. He was a fan of music and played the guitar, drums and trumpet. He was also fond of drawing.

Surviving besides his parents are a stepfather, John R. Woodsum; two sisters, Kelly Boudreau of Attleboro and Jill Woodsum of Hyde Park; four brothers, Shawn Blanchette of Sanford, Maine, Michael Blanchette of Hyannis, David Blanchette and Anthony Blanchette, both of Boston; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Jean C. Childress, 54

Barnstable - Jean C. Childress, 54, a manufacturer's representative and author, died Monday, March 29, 1999 at her brother's home in Old Saybrook, Conn., after a long illness with brain cancer.

She was born in Ithaca, N.Y. A graduate of Old Saybrook High School, she attended Randolph-Macon College in Lynchburg, Va.

After raising two sons in Manchester, Conn., she began a dual career as a manufacturer's representative for gift items and as the author of a pupular cookbook series known as Country Kitchen Collection. She continued these endeavors on the Cape.

She was also a practicing artist who exhibited her work in New England and New Mexico.

Surviving are two sons, David W. Olom of Missoula, Mont., and John W. Odom of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two brothers, R. Brooks Childress of Gloucestershire, England, and William A. Childress of Elliot, Maine, and Nancy W. Childress of Gilmanton I.W., N.H.; her devoted companion, John Baldoni of New London, Conn., a grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Julie DiYeso, 82

Hyannis - Julia (Torongo) DiYeso, 82, a former kindergarten teacher, died Friday, April 2, 1999 at Cape Cod Hospital.

She was the wife of the late Anthony DiYeso.

Born in Battle Creek, N.J., Mrs. DiYeso moved to Westchester, N.Y., at the age 7. She was a graduate of New Paltz Teacher's College in New Paltz, N.Y.

She taught kindergarten in Yorktown Heights, N.Y., before retiring in 1972 and moving to Hyannis.

Mrs. DiYeso was a member of United Methodist Church in Osterville. She worked as a volunteer at Whitehall Manor Nursing Home for 19 years and at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen for 10 years.

Surviving are a son, William A. DiYeso of Manchester, Conn.; a daughter, Suzanne Spano of West Barnstable; a brother, Albert Torongo Jr. of Yardley, Pa.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Esther C. Goldberg, 81

Barnstable - Esther (Calichman) Goldberg, 81, a homemaker, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis after a brief illness.

She was the wife of the late Matthew Goldberg.

Born and raised in Revere, Mrs. Goldberg was a longtime resident of Revere. She lived in Barnstable for the past four years and had previously lived in Foxboro.

A homemaker, she was a volunteer for the March of Dimes and the American Heart Association, and a life member of B'nai B'rith.

Surviving are a son, Jeffrey A. Goldberg of Ackworth, Ga.; a daughter, Cindy Long of Mashpee; a brother, David Calichman of Nahant; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Burial was in Tifereth Israel of Revere Cemetery.

Margaret M. Iliffe, 74

Centerville - Margaret Mary "Peggy" Iliffe, 74, grand marshall for Barnstable's Red Raiders football pep rallies, died Easter Sunday, April 4, 1999 after a long illness.

Born in Topeka, Kan., she was raised in South Weymouth and graduated from high school there in 1941. She worked with the original crew at Bethlehem Steel Co. in Boston.

She married in 1949 and settled in Rockland, moving to Centerville after her four children were born.

After moving to the Cape, she became very active in the community, especially with Barnstable High School sports. Best known for her work as secretary of the Barnstable Quarterback Club, she was also a member of the Red Cross, a Cub Scouts den leader and a March of Dimes volunteer.

She is survived by a daughter, Noreen C. Fajao of Hyannis; two sons, Thomas W. Iliffe of Gualala, Calif., and Charica D. Iliffe of Centerville; her companion of 25 years, Manuel "Manny" Sylvia; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also the mother of the late William E. Iliffe.

Burial was in the Beechwood Cemetery in Centerville.

Lawrence J. Keaney, 57

Cotuit - Lawrence J. Keaney Jr., 57, of Cotuit and Duxbury, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a long illness with cancer.

He was the husband of Susan G. (Peters) Keaney.

Born in Medford, Mr. Keaney was a resident of Cotuit and Duxbury. He was a sales executive for National Corp.

He graduated from high school and had two years of college.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Michelle, Lauren and Shannon; a brother, John; a sister, Margaret; and four grandchildren.
