Emma Leeman, 87

Plymouth - Emma (Womble) Leeman, 87, formerly of West Barnstable, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999 at Jordan Hospital in Plymouth after a brief illness.

She was the wife of Carl H. Leeman, who died in 1980.

Born and educated in Walliston, Va., Mrs. Leeman moved to West Barnstable in 1931. She worked as a packer at Colonial Candle of Cape Cod for many years until retiring in 1974.

Mrs. Leeman moved to Hyannis in 1995, where she was a resident of the Captain Eldredge House. She moved to Plymouth in 1997 and lived at the Life Care Center.

She enjoyed sewing and cross-stitching.

Surviving are a son, Robert V. Leeman of Plymouth; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Beechwood Cemetery, Centerville.

Jack Joseph Lopes, 72

Hyannis - Jack Joseph Lopes, 72, a nightclub and car dealership owner, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at the Greenery of Hyannis after a long illness.

Mr. Lopes was born and raised in Hyannis. He attended Barnstable High School before serving in the Army during World War II. Upon his return, he worked in construction in the Hyannis area. He soon began work at Cape Motors of Hyannis, where he moved up the ranks to become the owner. He retired in 1992.

After his retirement in 1992, he worked for Pina Bus Lines of Osterville.

Mr. Lopes also owned the Greenway Nightclub of Mashpee.

He was a member of the 25 Civic Social Club of Hyannis, the Capesters of Hyannis, and the local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

Mr. Lopes was a member of Saint Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis and an avid golfer.

He is survived by two sons, Duane Lopes of Hyannis and John Marcelino of Cleveland, Ohio; and three daughters, Jacqueline Lopes of Dorchester, Theresa Simmons of Hyannis and Elaine Williams of Dallas, Texas ; and nine grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Saint Francis Xavier Church, Hyannis. Burial followed at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Centerville.

Marie Hallett Myers, 84

Hyannis - Marie Hallett Myers, 84, who worked for the telephone company and in real estate, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999 at the Cape Cod Hospital Community Care Center after a long illness.

She was the wife of the late Chandler Myers.

Born in New Market, N.H., Mrs. Myers enjoyed traveling, singing and dancing. She visited many countries and spent her later years in Key Largo, Fla., with her late husband.

She lived in Hyannisport for many years and enjoyed taking walks on the beaches and in the mall.

Surviving are a son, Roger Doucette; and her two granddaughters, Dawn Doucette of Framingham and Melissa Doucette of Key West, Fla.

Sheilah J. Proctor, 62

Chatham - Sheilah (Jacobs) Proctor, 62, owner and manager of Byrne & Proctor Travel Agency Inc. in Chatham, died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999 of cancer at her home.

Mrs. Proctor was the wife of Robert Whitaker Proctor.

Born in San Francisco, she grew up in Marin County and San Francisco, graduating from Sacred Heart Academy in San Francisco in 1949 and the San Domenico School in San Anselmo in 1953. She graduated from Stamford University in Palo Alto in 1957.

Mrs. Procter worked as a flight attendant for TWA, then entered the travel agency business, which she continued until her death.

On Cape Cod, she opened the Byrne & Proctor Travel Agency in 1975.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Chatham, where she was a member of the choir.

Mrs. Proctor was a lifelong member of the Junior League of San Francisco and a member of the California Historical Society. She was a member of the Eastward Ho! Country Club in Chatham.

Besides her husband, she is survived by two stepdaughters, Nancy Proctor of Centerville and Sarah P. Wilson of Yorktown, N.Y.; a stepson, Charles Robert Whitaker Proctor of London and Buenos Aires, Argentina; and a grandson.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 17 at the First Congregational Church in Chatham.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice or to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 44 Binney St., Boston, MA 02215.

Constance Marie Reynolds, 82

Hyannis - Constance Marie Reynolds, 82, a former legal secretary for the Cape & Islands District Attorney's Office, died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

She was the wife of the late Charles A. Reynolds for 50 years.

Born and raised in the Boston area, she graduated from Regis College in 1940. In the 1960s, she moved to Cape Cod, settling in Osterville for the next 30 years. She worked as a legal secretary for the Cape & Islands District Attorney's Office.

Mrs. Reynolds was an active comunicant of St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis. She had been elected to be the chairperson of the forthcoming Regis College 60th Class Reunion.

She and her husband enjoyed dancing and travel. Active until the end of her life, she recently took a computer course and learned to sea kayak. She had a lifelong interest in politics.

Mrs. Reynolds is survived by a daughter, Lynn Benson of Lexington; a brother, the Honorable Joseph I. Dever of Marblehead; a sister, Eleanor Piscapo of Quincy; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was also the mother of the late Charles A. Reynolds, Jr.

A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis.

Evelyn G. Rose, 86

East Sandwich - Evelyn Gertrude Rose, 86, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

She was the wife of the late John A. Rose.

Born in Boston, Mrs. Rose was educated at Girls High School in Boston and president of her graduation class in 1931. A former resident of Boston, she lived in Hyannis for 30 years before moving to East Sandwich two years ago.

She worked as an administrative assistant for the Massachusetts Department of Health for eight years.

Mrs. Rose was an active member of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Hyannis, where she was a member of the Women's Guild. She was also a volunteer at Cape Cod Hospital and received her 2,000 hour pin a year ago.

Surviving are a daughter, Jacqueline R. Petersen of East Sandwich; a sister, Ruth M. Haugh of West Roxbury; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also the mother of the late Paul G. Rose.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis. Burial followed in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Centerville.

Memorial donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, Bethesda, MD 20814.

Maureen Balint, 52

Marstons Mills ­ Maureen (MacDonald) Balint, 52, an assistant manager, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis.

She was the wife of William F. Balint.

Born and raised in Scotland, Mrs. Balint came to the United States 33 years ago. She was a resident of Marstons Mills for the past 11 years and became a U.S. citizen in 1994.

She worked as an assistant manager in the Bakery Department at Friends Market in Marstons Mills for seven years and at the Cafe in Kmart in Hyannis for two years.

A devoted wife and mother, she loved the beach and her Friday nights out.

Surviving besides her husband are a son, William F. Balint Jr. of Springfield; a sister, Marie Haithcoat of Indianapolis, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church, Centerville. Burial was private.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Cape Cod, 923 Route 6A, Yarmouthport, Mass. 02675.

Bernard R. Barrett, 86

Long Branch, N.J. ­ Bernard R. Barrett, 86, a retired chemical engineer who leaves family on Cape Cod, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999.

He was the husband of the late Evrigle (Petrakis) Barrett.

Born in Staten Island, Mr. Barrett was a graduate of Cooper Union with a degree in chemical engineering.

He worked for the U.S. Signal Corps in Red Bank, N.J.for 22 years, retiring in 1963.

Mr. Barrett is survived by a daughter, Evryhlia Abodeely of Hyannis; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were at St. Michael's Orthodox Mission, Cotuit. Burial was in New Jersey.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Michael's Mission, P.O. Box 534, Falmouth, Mass. 02541.

Barbara G. Behlman, 76

Hyannis ­ Barbara G. (Gath) Behlman, 76, died at home Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999 after an illness.

She was the wife of the late Myron F. Behlman.

Born and raised in Limerick, Maine, she moved to Hyannis after graduating from college in the late 1940s. She began teaching in the Barnstable public schools, where she was a home economics teacher as well as the cheerleading coach. She retired in 1979.

She was an active member of the Federated Church of Hyannis and helped with the floral arrangements for the church.

She was a member of the Quota Club of Hyannis and the Hyannis Garden Club.

She is survived by a sister, Alice Crocker of Woodstock, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held in the Federated Church of Hyannis. Burial was private.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
