Helen A. Mattozzi, 77
Osterville Helen A. (Hayes) Mattozzi, 77, a Cape resident since 1985, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at her home after an illness.
She was the wife of Elio C. Mattozzi.
Born in Malden, she was a graduate of Somerville High School.
She was a resident of Dedham for 30 years before moving to Osterville in 1985.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, James V. Mattozzi of Groton, Michael E. Mattozzi of New Market, N.H., and Kenneth R. Mattozzi of Osterville; two brothers, Phil Hayes of Dedham and Eugene Hayes of Brookline; and three grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in Our Lady of Victory Church, Centerville.
Burial was in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Centerville.

Thomas 'Eddie' Milne, 78
Osterville Thomas "Eddie" Milne, 78, a lifelong resident of Osterville, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at Royal Nursing & Alzheimer's Center in Falmouth after a long illness.
He was the husband of Virginia (Hulbert) Milne.
Mr. Milne worked as a carpenter, and was a member of that industry's union.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Mr. Milne was a past commander of the VFW in Hyannis and a past commander of the American Legion in Hyannis. He was a member of the Cooties veterans organization.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mary Midkifs of Texas ; two sons, Russell Milne of Texas and Douglas Goodwin of Billerica; a brother, John Milne of Hyannis; a sister, Esther Williams of Osterville; five grandchildren; and a great grandchild.
A memorial service was held at United Methodist Church in Osterville. Burial was private.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Cape Cod.
Mae Constance Olson, 84
Harwich Mae Constance (Thunell) Olson, 84, a Harwich resident formerly of Brewster, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
She was the wife of Harry A. Olson.
Educated in Malden schools, she worked at E.B. Badgers Engineering Co. of Boston. She also owned and operated the Copper Penny restaurant in Saugus with her husband.
In Malden, she was a member of the First Lutheran Church, where she was financial secretary for many years and the first woman member of the church council.
She moved to Brewster in 1974 with her husband and became an active member of the St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Harwich.
Mrs. Olson was a founder and co-chairwoman of the Brewster Square Dance Club, a past member of the Brewster Historical Society and active in the Brewster Women's Club. She also served on the Brewster Republican Town Committee.
She then moved to Harwich and became an active member of the AARP Harwich Chapter 896; the Order of the Eastern Star, Orleans Chapter 201, of which she was a trustee; and Vinland Lodge of Cape Cod 703, Vasa Order of America, of which she was the chaplain and master of ceremonies.
She enjoyed music, especially playing the organ, as well as gardening, entertaining and camping with her husband.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two brothers, Anvin Thunell of Bellingham and Wilton Thunell of Osterville; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, East Harwich.

Carla J. Olsen-Good, 40
Cotuit Carla J. Olsen-Good, 40, co-owner of LaFemmena Hair Design in Hyannis, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Falmouth Hospital.
She was the wife of Paul W. Good.
Born in Brockton, she was raised in Randolph and was a 1981 graduate of Stonehill College.
An avid gardener and animal lover, she was a resident of Cotuit.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her parents, Herbert E. and Pauline (Mortelliti) Olsen of Marstons Mills; and a sister, Karen G. Colella of Marstons Mills.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Osterville. Burial was private.

John H. Pettibone, 82
Barnstable John H. Pettibone, 82, a retired businessman and Red Cross volunteer, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at the Mayflower Place Nursing Center in West Yarmouth, where he had been a resident for the past year and a half.
He was the husband of Dorothy (Huff) Pettibone for 54 years.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Mr. Pettibone was raised in Waban and a graduate of Newton High School. He also attended Governor Dummer Academy and Princeton University and graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University, where he was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity.
During World War II, he was a lieutenant junior grade in the Navy and commander in charge of an LCT ship during the Normandy invasion.
After the war, he and his wife settled in Lexington and he worked as a product manager for the former Boston Woven Hose and Rubber Co. in Cambridge.
Mr. Pettibone was active in community affairs, having served as president of the Parent-Teacher Association and as one of the leaders of a local Boy Scout troop. In addition, he and his wife were the leaders of the Episcopal Youth Group at the Church of Our Redeemer.
He retired to Barnstable in 1983, where he and his wife bought a house still under construction. This gave him the opportunity to utilize his craftsmanship skills by completing the structure and putting the finishing touches on the interior.
In retirement, he was a receptionist for the American Red Cross for which he received a special recognition for his volunteer work. He was the treasurer for the Old School House and the Hospice Thrift Shop, a board member for the Site Loss Services of Cape Cod, and every month he and his wife prepared food for the Noah Homeless Shelter.
He was also a member of the Cape Cod Art Association, Mid-Cape Men's Club and St. Mary's Episcopal Church.
He and his wife enjoyed traveling and were captivated by the Northwest, Southwest, New England and the Caribbean.
Mr. Pettibone loved nature. He was a member and sponsor of many organizations dedicated to preserving and protecting nature, wildlife and global ecology, most notably the National Audubon Society. He believed in and contributed to many humanitarian causes.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, James Pettibone of Boston; two daughters, Linda Pettibone of San Francisco, Calif., and Nancy Pettibone of Cummaquid; a granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Barnstable Village.

Wanda Stefans, 87
Plymouth Wanda (Herman) Stefans, 87, formerly of Centerville, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at the Beverly Manor Nursing Home in Plymouth.
She was the wife of Joseph Stefans.
Born in Boston, Mrs. Stefans was a graduate of Hyde Park High School and also graduated from Boston Teachers College in 1934 with a master's degree in education.
She was a math teacher in the city of Boston schools.
Mrs. Stefans retired to Centerville and was the historian for the Polish Society of Cape Cod and the Islands. She was also active in Our Lady of Victory parish.
She loved music, art, sewing and history.
Surviving are a daughter, Valerie Thomas of Plymouth; a son, Joseph Stefans of Emmaus, Pa.; a sister, Connie Herman of Dedham; and eight grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church, Centerville.
Burial was in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Centerville.
Jennie M. Wentzel
Hyannis Jennie M. (Kenney) Wentzel, a resident of Hyannis, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999.
Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Wentzel-Johnson; a half-sister, Eleanor Williams; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a grandniece.
A memorial service was held at the Hyannis Federated Church.
Memorial donations may be made to the New England Home for Little Wanderers; or to the Animal Rescue League of Massachusetts.
Barbara L. Williams, 80
Cummaquid Barbara L. (Haskins) Williams, 80, a resident of Cummaquid, died January 15, 2000 at her home.
Born in Auburn, Maine, she lived on the Cape most of her life. She was the former owner, publisher and editor of The Barnstable Patriot. Mrs. Williams was among the first members of the Barnstable Conservation Commission. She was the first recipient of the "Woman of the Year Award" presented by the Cape Cod Business and Professional Women's Club.
An avid gardener, Barbara enjoyed the Cape's natural beauties and supported the preservation of its historic content.
She was the wife of the late Pete Williams.
Surviving are a daughter, Carol Yip Choy of Houston, Texas ; two sons, Roger Williams of Acton and George Williams of Niskayuna, New York; a sister, Virginia Haskins Cross; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Haskins of West Hyannisport; six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A memorial service will be held for family and friends in the spring.
Lillian I. Winoski, 89
Hyannis Lillian I. (Potter) Winoski, 89, a former social worker, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Community-Pavilion in Hyannis.
She was the wife of Joseph Winoski, who died in 1975.
Mrs. Winoski was raised and educated in Whitinsville and was a 1928 graduate of Northbridge High School. She married in 1939.
She worked from 1933 to 1956 at the Northbridge Social Services Department as a supervisor and social worker.
In 1967, she moved to the Cape and settled in Hyannis. She worked at the Otis Air Base Defense Command Center until her retirement in 1974.
A member of the Rockdale Congregational Church in Northbridge, she attended the South Congregational Church of Centerville while on the Cape. She was also a retired member of the State County and Municipal Employees Association of Massachusetts.
Surviving are a daughter, Jean P. Hermes of Charlotte, N.C.; three sisters, Marion Bentley and Bertha Regeinus, both of Barre, and Dorothy Elliot of Leeds; a grandson; and her close friend and caretaker, H. "Rudy" Schwarzer of Dennisport.
All services will be held in the spring in the Northbridge area.
