Irving Ringler, 88

Elmont, N.Y. ­ Irving Ringler, 88, who leaves family on the Cape, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at Franklin Hospital.

He was the husband of Gussie Ringler for 62 years.

Born in Vienna, Austria, Mr. Ringler was a resident of New York most of his life. He worked as an X-ray technician and chemist.

He held patents on X-ray machines and worked on the Manhattan Project during World War II.

Surviving besides his wife are three children, Carol Alper of Woodmere, Edward Ringler of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Neil Ringler of Barnstable; a brother, Alfred Ringler of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a sister, Miriam Cohen of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and 13 grandchildren.

A funeral service was held in the chapel at Sharon Gardens Cemetery in Valhalla.

Memorial donations may be made to the Family Education Fund of the Cape Cod Synagogue, 145 Winter Street, Hyannis, Mass. 02601; or to the Alzheimer's Association of Cape Cod and the Islands, P.O. Box 953, Barnstable, Mass. 02630.

Robert L. Young, 64

Harwich ­ Robert Lee Young, 64, a retired engineer, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

He was the husband of Joyce (Schubert) Young.

Born in New Bedford, Mr. Young lived in Harwich for the past 11 years, moving from Bourne. He graduated from Bourne High School and from Trinity College in Hartford, Conn.

A Korean War Navy veteran, he worked for Barnstable County for 30 years as an engineer until retiring in 1994.

He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in East Harwich and the Eagles Club in Bourne.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Robert L. Young III and Eric Young, both of New York; four daughters, Pauline Young of Fall River, Deborah Young of New Bedford, Marie Dodd of Pittsfield and Anita Maggi of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Richard Young of Hyannis; three sisters, Patricia Halpin of Beaumont, Texas , Anne Marie Valente of Sandwich and Donna Young of Mashpee; many grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

A funeral service was held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, East Harwich. Burial was in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Stafford N. Anderson, 77

West Yarmouth - Stafford N. Anderson, 77, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000 at The Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Community - Pavilion in Hyannis.

He was the husband of Martha E. (Hockenhull) Anderson.

Born in Warwick, R.I., he graduated from James T. Lockwood High School in 1940.

Mr. Anderson was a contract work inspector for New England Telephone for 35 years, retiring in 1984.

He served in the Coast Guard during World War II.

Mr. Anderson was a resident of West Yarmouth since 1945.

He was a 50-year member of the Fraternal Lodge A.M. & F.M. of Centerville and a 50-year member of the American Legion Post 206, Hyannis. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers and St. David Episcopal Church, South Yarmouth.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Andrew S. Anderson of Medway; two brothers Carl Anderson of Hope, R.I., and Everett Anderson of Warwick, R.I.; and two grandchildren.

Burial was in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Warwick.

Michael J. Breen, 49

Marstons Mills - Michael J. Breen, 49, died unexpectedly Friday, Feb. 18, 2000 at Cottage Hospital on Nantucket.

He was the husband of Deborah (Hitchcock) Breen.

Born in Lawrence, he was a 1968 graduate of Andover High School.

He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and the recipient of a Purple Heart.

Mr. Breen was a self-employed plumbing contractor who had worked on Nantucket for the last 10 years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Kristin L. Breen.

He was predeceased by a son, Sean M. Breen.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church, 230 South Main St., Centerville.

Katherine Greer Cunningham, 82

Osterville - Katherine Greer Cunningham, 82, died Thursday, Fe. 17, 2000 at the Hospice House in Barnstable after a long illness.

She was the wife of the late Robert T. Cunningham.

Born in Minneapolis, Minn., she moved to Newton in her teens after the death of both her parents, completing high school and then attending the Katherine Gibbs School.

In the early 1970s, she and her husband moved to Cape Cod, residing first in Centerville and later moving to Wianno Knoll in Osterville.

An avid golfer, Mrs. Cunningham was an active member of the Wianno Club.

She is survived by two sons, Peter G. Osgood of Southport, Conn., and Ernest H. Osgood III of Centerville; a stepson, Robert T. Cunningham of Vienna, Va.; a stepdaughter, Monnie Cunningham Sullivan of Stamford, Conn.; two grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Saturday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Wianno Avenue, Osterville.

Sarah Y. Fontaine, 102

Hyannis - Sarah Yvonne (Parkin) Fontaine, 102, died Wednesday Feb 16.,2000 at the Center for Optimum Care in Mashpee.

She was the wife of the late Arthur Cloutier and the late Andrew Fontaine. She was predeceased by two sons, Arthur Cloutier and Emerson Cloutier.

Mrs. Fontaine was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and as a young woman taught ballroom dancing in New York City. She and her husband retired to Cape Cod in 1963.

Mrs. Fontaine is survived by 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church, South Street, Hyannis. Burial was in Mosswood Cemetery.

Harold Friedman, 75

Centerville - Harold Friedman, 75, died Friday, Feb. 18 in Boston.

He was the husband of Lorraine (Mattis) Friedman for 53 years.

Born, raised and educated in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a graduate of Samuel J. Tilden High School and then graduated from C.W. Post College in 1965.

Mr. Friedman served in the Army Air Force as a B-29 bombardier during World War II. He was an aviation manager for 38 years, serving for 20 years at Kennedy Airport, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and Billy Mitchell Field in Milwaukee, Wis. He was also an assistant manager of Massport in Boston and had worked in College Park, Md., and Binghamton, N.Y. He was the manager of the Barnstable Municipal Airport at the time of his retirement in 1991.

His memberships include past president of the New England Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives, past president of the Hyannis Kiwanis Club, and past secretary of the Otis Civilian Advisory Council. He was also a member of the American Legion of Sandwich and Rugby Post in New York. For the past six years he was a member of the Gleaners Club.

He enjoyed working with Lionel electric trains and doing "handyman" work.

Besides his wife, Mr. Friedman is survived by two sons, Robert Friedman of Newport News, Va., and Martin Friedman of Highland Park, N.J.; a daughter, Randi Friedman of Marstons Mills; and four grandchildren.

A graveside was held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 2 White 's Path, South Yarmouth, MA 02664 or to the Cape Cod Synagogue, 145 Winter St., Hyannis, MA 02601.

David Gaylord, 55

Hyannis - David Gaylord, 55, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000 at the Cape Cod Hospital, following an illness.

Born, raised and educated in Boston, he moved to the Cape in the early 1980s, and settled in Hyannis.

He has resided at Champ House in Hyannis for the past seven years.

He was an avid volunteer, working at Ma's Food Pantry at the First Baptist Church of Hyannis. He also volunteered at the Salvation Army and served as manager of Champ House for several years.

He enjoyed fishing and making artifacts and jewelry from synthetic beads.

He is survived by his 25 resident brothers and sisters at the Champ House in Hyannis.

Burial was in Oak Neck Cemetery in Hyannis.

Memorial donations may be made to The Champ House, 82 School St., Hyannis, MA 02601.

Frederick 'Buddy' Murch, 56

Centerville - Frederick "Buddy" Murch, 56, a Cape resident since 1983, died Feb. 9, 2000 at his home of cancer.

He was the husband of Nijole "Nikki" Murch for 32 years.

Mr. Murch was born in Boston and lived in Quincy before moving to the Cape in 1983.

He worked for many years in direct mailing in the Boston area and at the Cape Cod Times until his illness.

An active member of the Mashpee Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, he also loved photography and building models.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, Scott S. Murch of Centerville; a sister, Anita Marshall of Dorchester; and three nieces and a nephew.

A memorial service was held Saturday at the Falmouth Kingdom Hall, Route 151, Falmouth.
