Peggy L. Camara, 68

Hyannis - Peggy L. (Mariner) Camara, 68, of Hyannis died Nov. 24, 2000, at Cape Cod Hospital.

She was the wife of Henry Camara for 49 years.

Born in Atlantic, Va., Mrs. Camara was a graduate of Atlantic High School. She traveled extensively during her 21 years as a military wife.

She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Fleet Reserve Association. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and her grandchildren.

Surviving besides her husband are a son, Daniel Camara of Hyannis; two daughters, Helen Granger of Marstons Mills and Debby Simmons of Sandwich; and six grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to Cape Cod Hospital Foundation, Emergency Room, 4 Bayview St., Hyannis MA 02601.

John E. Campbell, 77

Needham - John E. Campbell, 77, of Needham and Centerville, died Nov. 24, 2000, at Briarwood Healthcare in Needham.

He was the husband of Alice (Dunn) Campbell.

Mr. Campbell was born in Boston and resided in Needham for 43 years. He was also a longtime resident of Centerville.

He was a World War II Army Air Force veteran and a member of the 8th Air Force 421st Bombardier Group.

He graduated from Harvard University in 1946. He received a master's degree in chemistry from Boston University in 1948, and a Ph.D. in chemistry from Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute in 1952.

Mr. Campbell was a retired research chemist for Polaroid Corp. of Cambridge where he worked for 35 years, retiring in 1986.

He was past president of the Polaroid Retirees Association, a former member of the Needham Golf Club and the Needham Retired Men's Club.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, Stephen J. Campbell; two daughters, Janet M. Campbell of Burlington, Vt., and Carol C. Beggs of Plymouth; a sister, Edith M. Campbell of Cambridge; and two grandchildren.

He was also the father of the late Robert G. Campbell.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Richard T. Doody, 78

Marstons Mills - Richard T. Doody, 78, died Nov. 24, 2000, at the Center for Optimum Care in Mashpee.

He was the husband of Eleanor (Heney) Doody.

Mr. Doody was born in Avon and attended Avon schools. He served in the Coast Guard in the South Pacific during World War II.

He was a maintenance worker for the Brockton Housing Authority for many years before retiring to the Cape in 1987 from Brockton.

Mr. Doody was a member of the Osterville Veterans Association and an avid golfer.

Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Patrycia Lukac of Centerville; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Evelyn Jane Fitzgerald, 77

Hyannis - Evelyn Jane Fitzgerald, 77, died Nov. 15, 2000, at Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Community - Pavilion after a long illness.

She was the wife of the late John W. Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Fitzgerald was born in Boston, graduated from Dedham High School in 1941 and attended Fisher Business School. Prior to her marriage in 1957, she was a securities clerk at Boston Safe Deposit & Trust Co.

She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish and the Hyannis Garden Club. She enjoyed figure skating, swimming and golf, and traveling to California.

Surviving are two sons, Paul Fitzgerald of Goleta, Calif., and John Fitzgerald of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; three sisters, Georgia White of Norwood, JoAnn Shea of Brewster and Ruth Guillemette of Sandwich; and two grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.

Waldo A. Fraser Jr., 69

Centerville - Waldo A. Fraser Jr., 69, retired Barnstable town treasurer, died unexpectedly Nov. 18, 2000, at his home.

He was the husband of the late Karen (Anderson) Fraser.

Mr. Fraser was born and raised in Hingham. He earned a bachelor's degree in business economics at the University of New Hampshire and a master's degree from Northeastern University.

He worked for the Sheraton and Howard Johnson hotel chains for many years.

Mr. Fraser served as the Barnstable town treasurer for more than a decade, retiring in 1999.

He was treasurer of the Veterans Affairs Association of Cape Cod.

He was an active member and usher of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Osterville for more than 20 years, and was a member of the church's financial committee.

Survivors include a son, Craig N. Fraser of Norfolk, Va.; three daughters, Susan Fraser O'Halloran of Marshfield, Kristen Fraser DeMusis of Springfield and Kimberly Fraser Nelson of Quincy; two brothers, David Fraser of Harwich and Bruce Fraser of Harwich Port; seven grandchildren, one great-grandson; and several nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104; to the American Diabetes Foundation, 40 Speen St., P.O. Box 1221, Framingham, MA 01701; or to Hospice of Cape Cod, 923 Route 6A, Yarmouthport, MA 02675.

Lorraine A. Godfrey, 77

Martsons Mills - Lorraine A. (Andrews) Godfrey, 77, a resident of Marstons Mills, died Nov. 12, 2000.

She was the wife of the late Walter A. Godfrey.

Born, raised and educated in Medford, Mrs. Godfrey was a graduate of Boston University. She was a resident of Winchester for a time before moving to Arlington, and later to the Cape in the late 1970s.

A homemaker most of her life, she later opened her own business, Knit One Purl One, a yarn and knitting supply store in Marstons Mills, where she also taught knitting.

Mrs. Godfrey loved cooking, knitting, the Cape and its beaches, and spending time with her granddaughter. She also enjoyed reading and golfing in her younger days.

Surviving are a son, Garth R. Nelson of Hanover; and a granddaughter.

Frank G. Jamieson

South Yarmouth - Frank G. Jamieson, 91, a resident of South Yarmouth, died Nov. 11, 2000, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis after a short illness.

Born in Quincy, Mr. Jamieson attended Quincy public schools. He worked as an automobile mechanic in Quincy until World War II when he entered the Army Air Corps. He served in the European theater for the duration of the war.

In 1951, Mr. Jamieson moved to Cape Cod, where he worked for Warren Buick in Hyannis until his retirement. He was an avid Red Sox fan and had hoped to live long enough to see them win the World Series.

Mr. Jamieson, a bachelor, is survived by a niece, Judith Blakeley of Wellfleet; and a nephew, George Power of Sandwich.

James J. 'Jim' McGranachan, 79

Cotuit - James Joseph "Jim" McGranachan, 79, a resident of Cotuit, died Nov. 18, 2000, at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston.

He was the husband of Catherine C. (Sullivan) McGranachan.

Mr. McGranachan was born in Boston and graduated from English High School in Boston. He was a veteran of World War II, returning home to become a Boston firefighter for 27 years, retiring in 1975. He had lived in Brighton and summered in Cotuit since 1966, moving to Cotuit permanently in 1977.

Mr. McGranachan enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, James J. McGranachan of New York; three daughters, Cathy M. McGranachan of Georgetown, Janice Keefe of Lynn and Jean M. Huggins of Virginia; four grandchildren; five nieces; and eight nephews.

John F. Power, 74

Epping, N.H. - John F. Power, 74, a former Barnstable resident, died Nov. 15, 2000, at Exeter Hospital after a period of failing health.

He was the husband of Eleanore (Lowrey) Power for 19 years.

Born in Boston, he was a World War II Navy veteran.

Mr. Power had been employed as a maintenance mechanic for Cape Cod Regional Technical High School in Harwich.

He was a lifelong member of the American Legion in both Epping and Florida. He was also a member of the Elks Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Florida. He enjoyed fishing.

Before moving to Epping, he lived in Placeda, Fla., for seven years. He lived in Barnstable Village for 30 years before moving to Florida.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, John F. Power Jr. of Billerica, Mass., and Michael Power of Wells, Maine; four daughters, Mary Forrester of Falls Church, Washington , D.C., Joan Power of Billerica, Mass., Christine Izo of Waltham, Mass., and Susan Williams of Raynham, Mass.; a brother, Leo Power of Brighton, Mass.; a sister, Madelyn Hessel of Natick, Mass.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

William A. Schlander

Cummaquid- William A. Schlander, a World War II veteran, died Nov. 23, 2000, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis after a short illness.

He was the husband of Joan E. (Gavoni) Schlander.

Mr. Schlander was born, raised and educated in Waterbury, Conn. After graduating from high school he attended Tuck School of Business and graduated from Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H.

Mr. Schlander was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Navy at Cornell University and served in the South Pacific during World War II.

He worked for 38 years for General Motors, beginning at the corporate offices in Detroit where he worked for several years. He later worked as resident comptroller at the Framingham General Motors plant. He retired in 1984 and settled in Cummaquid in 1986. He was a member of the Cummaquid Golf Course.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, William A. Schlander Jr. of South Lyon, Mich.; and one grandson.

Paul H. Wiggins, 81

Cotuit - Paul H. Wiggins, 81, a longtime resident of Cotuit and a former Cotuit Water Department commissioner, died Nov. 16, 2000, at Falmouth Hospital.

He was the husband of the late Edith M. (Christian) Wiggins.

Mr. Wiggins was born, raised and educated in Holbrook. He worked for several years for Eastern Mass. Railway in Quincy as a bus driver. He moved from Holbrook to Chatham in 1957 and then to Cotuit in 1968.

Mr. Wiggins was a police officer in Chatham in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He and his wife also owned Wiggins Camera & Art Supply. During the 1970s he worked for the Cotuit Water Department, where he later served as commissioner. He also worked for Cape Cod Bank and Trust Co. at the operations center, retiring in 1991.

Mr. Wiggins was a past master of the Mariners Lodge in Cotuit, and also enjoyed woodworking.

Surviving are a son, Paul H. Wiggins Jr. of Mount Vernon, Ohio; two daughters, Patricia E. Sanderson and Judith M. Nickerson, both of Cotuit; two brothers, Ernest G. Wiggins of Nashville, Tenn., and Chester L. Wiggins of Berlin; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to the Boston Shriners Hospital, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114; or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
