Dwight A. Horne, 89

Hyannisport - Dwight Anthony Horne, 89 a retired banker, died at his home on Jan. 4, 2001.
He was the husband for 66 years of Dorothy Edwards Horne, who died last year.
Born in Keswick, Va., Mr. Horne was a descendant of Jonathan Edwards, Timothy Dwight and other prominent New England clergymen.
He was a 1929 graduate of the Pomfret School in Pomfret, Conn., where he was president of the Cottage Club.
He was a 1933 graduate of Princeton University and received a master's degree from New York University in 1955.
He served as president of the Pomfret School Alumni Association from 1946 to 1948 and was a member of its board of trustees from 1948 to 1955.
During World War II, Mr. Horne served as a finance officer for the Army, based in Washington , D.C..
He worked 40 years as a banker for the Hanover Trust Company (now Chase), serving as secretary of the bank. For 15 years, he worked in the company's London office as vice president and manager of the Mayfair branch in Grosvenor Square. While in London, Mr. Horne served as president of the American Overseas Memorial Day Association, which arranged services honoring American war dead buried in England, and as the American member of the Council of the Hansard Society, which provided information on parliamentary government to the members of the newly formed British Commonwealth.
Mr. Horne was a member of the New York Yacht Club. He and his wife enjoyed sailing their English-made sloop Grenadier. They spent summers in Orient, Long Island.
Following his retirement, he moved to Hyannisport, where he took up residence in a house that had been in his family since 1910. He pursued his interest in golf, sailing, printing, and collecting and making clocks. He served as president of the Union Chapel in Hyannisport and was a member of the Hyannisport Golf Club and the Somerset Club in Boston. He was Pomfret School class secretary from 1988-97.
Mr. Horne is survived by a daughter, Susan Anthony Horne Thomas of Hyannisport; three granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on July 14 at the Union Chapel in Hyannisport.

Rita H. Kent

Hyannis - Rita H. (McParland) Kent, a Cape resident since 1983, died Jan. 5, 2001, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis after a long illness with Alzheimer's disease.
She was the wife of Raymond Clark Kent, who died in 1992.
Mrs. Kent was a native of Brooklyn, N.Y. She attended Brooklyn College and earned a bachelor of arts degree from New York University.
She worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in New York City before moving to Ohio in 1948.
Mrs. Kent returned to the East Coast in 1969, where she was employed by the New England Telephone Co. until retiring to Cape Cod in 1983.
She was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis until her admission to Cape Regency Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Centerville in 1997.
She is survived by a daughter, Denny Kent of West Barnstable; a son, Jay Kent of Chicago; three sisters; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Valteris Lendraitis, 93

Centerville - Valteris Lendraitis, 93, died Jan. 16, 2001, at the Cape Regency Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
He was the husband of Jadvyga (Stasiukonis) Lendraitis.
Born, raised and educated in Skirsnemune, Lithuania, Mr. Lendraitis attended the University of Lithuania and married in 1936. After his marriage, he settled in Kaunas, Lithuania, and worked as a textile engineer in the production of materials.
In 1951, he and his wife moved to the United States and settled in South Boston. He worked as a machinist in the Boston area until retiring in 1976. He then moved to Centerville.
An avid player of the organ and accordion, he also loved fishing and gardening. He was a member of the American Lithuanian Community of Cape Cod and a member and communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church.
Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Reda Simonaitis of Walpole and Irene Uzgiris of Schenectady, N.Y., and Kristina Nichols of Braintree; a sister, Marta Burnstein of Brockton; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Raymond G. Lussier, 89

Redwood City, Calif. - Raymond George Lussier, 89, formerly of Osterville, died Jan. 12, 2001.
He was the husband of the late Germaine Richardson Lussier for 47 years.
A native of Woonsocket, R.I., he graduated from Mt. St. Charles Academy, where he was an All-State football and hockey player. He also played semi-professional football in 1930 and 1931.
Mr. Lussier lived in Belmont for many years and was employed by the B.F. Goodrich Co. in Watertown as a production manager and systems consultant. He retired in 1970 to Osterville and in 1999 relocated to San Carlos, Calif.
His hobbies included sports, gardening and shellfishing.
He is survived by two sons, Raymond Lussier Jr. of Boston and Richard Lussier of Atherton, Calif.; two grandsons; and one great-grandson. He was also the father of the late Robert Lussier.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date.

Helen A. Maloy, 84

Falmouth - Helen A. (Smith) Maloy, 84, a Cape resident since 1958, died Jan. 17, 2001, at the Center for Optimum Care in Falmouth after a brief illness.
She was the wife of John L. Maloy, who died in 1999.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Mrs. Maloy lived there until moving to Falmouth in 1958.
Mrs. Maloy, her husband and son then owned the Kings Grant Racquet Club in Cotuit for 26 years until retiring in 1996. She previously worked as a waitress for Stouffer'sand later for the Coonamessett Inn in Falmouth.
She was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Falmouth.
Surviving are two sons, John B. Maloy of Cotuit and Peter F. Maloy of Barrington, R.I.; a sister, Gertrude Arcaro of Falmouth; and four granddaughters.

Florence Martin, 84

Mishawaka, Ind. - Florence (Bismore) Martin, 84, a former resident of Hyannis, died Jan. 11, 2001, in Mishawaka.
She was the wife of the late E. Max Martin.
Born in East Bridgewater, Mrs. Martin was raised in Hyannis, where she graduated from Barnstable High School and was active in the Hyannis Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Ruth Ann Schultz of Mishawaka; a son, John Martin of Mishawaka; two sisters, Dorothy Cahoon of Chatham and Virginia "Ginny" Waight of Falmouth; two brothers, Raymond S. Bismore and Joseph A. Bismore, both of Everett, Wash.; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Henry R. Pontbriand, 82

Centerville - Henry R. Pontbriand, 82, a Cape resident since 1995, died Jan. 17, 2001, at the Cranberry Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Harwich from Alzheimer's Disease.
He was the husband of Jeannette M. (Zapka) Pontbriand for 55 years.
Born in Holyoke, Mr. Pontbriand lived in Northampton before moving to Centerville in 1995. He graduated from the former Sacred Heart School and Smith School, both in Northampton.
Mr. Pontbriand was a toolmaker at the Prophylactic Brush Co. for 37 years and then worked at the Chartpak Co., also as a toolmaker, in research and development.
During World War II, he served in the Army Air Force as an airplane and propeller mechanic, earning the rank of sergeant.
An avid storyteller, he enjoyed landscaping, the outdoors, beach combing and his family.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Mark R. Pontbriand of Newington, Conn., and Joel W. Pontbriand of Eastham; a daughter, Rebecca Whitney of Hatfield; a sister, Helen Dostal of Northampton; two brothers, Romeo Pontbriand of Northampton and Ernest Pontbriand of Maine; three grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A celebration of his life will be held at the First Lutheran Church in West Barnstable at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Cape Cod.

Thomas J. 'Tommy' Roderick, 76

Marstons Mills - Thomas J. "Tommy" Roderick, 76, a longtime resident of Marstons Mills, died of pancreatic cancer Jan. 15, 2001, at the Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Community - Pavilion in Hyannis.
Born and raised in Barnstable, Mr. Roderick graduated from Barnstable High School. He worked as a presser at Emerson Cleaners from 1953 until 1969. He then went to work at Spartan Cleaners, where he was employed until the time of his death.
A close friend of the Kennedy family for more than 46 years, he was active in the Democratic Town Committee and was a trustee of the JFK Memorial in Hyannis.
He was also active in numerous church and civic organizations. He served on the board of directors for the former Merchants Bank and Trust Co.
Mr. Roderick was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis and a former member of the Knights of Columbus in Hyannis.
He loved his dog, Montana.
He is survived by a niece and a nephew, Tena-Marie Roderick and Darrell Joseph "D.J." Roderick, whom he raised, both of Marstons Mills; two brothers, Frank F. Roderick of Harwich and Manuel Roderick Jr. of Marstons Mills; six sisters, Mable Galvin, Beatrice Monteiro and Johanna Andrews, all of Hyannis, Mary Moore of Boston, Louisa DePina of Los Angeles and Barbara Pina of Marstons Mills; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces, great-grandnephews and cousins.
