During prep school and college, he was a noted thespian and member of the glee clubs, and maintained a strong tenor singing voice throughout his life. The decision to turn his skills from being an actor to directing and education came while at Middlebury, where he was mentored by the illustrious American poet laureate, Robert Frost.
Dr. Tuttle was a strong supporter of the fine arts community locally, and involved with bringing quality arts to Cape Cod, first as the director of the summer arts program at the Cape Playhouse School Theater in Dennis from 1970 to 1975, then as one of the original organizers and longtime producer of the famed Pops by the Sea summer concert.
