Richard W. 'Ben' Benson, 82

Milton - Richard W. "Ben" Benson, 82, a former Marstons Mills resident, died Nov. 30, 2001, in New England Medical Center following a long illness.
He was the husband of Thelma (Baker) Menchi Benson.
Mr. Benson worked for John Hancock Insurance Co. as an office manager in West Roxbury. He was employed at John Hancock from the time he graduated from high school in 1936 until his retirement in 1972.
He had resided in Needham for more than 20 years prior to moving to Marstons Mills in 1983. He had recently relocated to Milton.
Surviving besides his wife are two nieces, Karen A. McCarthy of Concord and Barbara C. Taylor of Duxbury; three nephews, Robert Benson of California, Richard Benson of Oregon and William Benson of California; three stepdaughters, Joan T. McCormack of Raynham, Carol A. Frahmann of Florida, and Nancy Menchi of Lakeville; a stepson, Thomas Y. Menchi of Rochester; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held in St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Milton. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Hyde Park.
Memorial donations may be made to Milton Hospital Development Office, 92 Highland Ave., Milton, MA 02186.

Sheila Bourbeau Uhl, 72

Gainsville, Va.- Sheila Bourbeau Uhl, 72, formerly of Francestown, N.H., Weare, N.H., and Barnstable, died Dec. 1, 2001, in Gainsville of a heart attack.
She was the wife of Arthur G. Bourbeau, who died in 1991, for 40 years, and of Gifford "Billy" Uhl, who died in 1998, for five years.
For a period in the 1980s, she was the overseer of public welfare in Weare.
Mrs. Uhl was known as a lover of language and books.
Strongly patriotic, she was passionately vocal about political and social issues. She enjoyed connecting with a wide variety of people in a wide variety of places.
She raised four children on Cape Cod before moving to New Hampshire.
After her husband's death in 1991, she moved to Texas , where she married Gifford "Billy" Uhl.
She spent her last years in Virginia, helping care for her granddaughters.
Surviving are two daughters, Lisa Bourbeau of Francestown, N.H., and MaryElizabeth Parsons of Gainsville; two sons, Mark Bourbeau of Boston and Michael Bourbeau of Hingham, Mass.; and eight grandchildren.
A funeral was held in the Community Church of Francestown, N.H. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery in Bennington, N.H.

Donald F. Burke, 70

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - Donald F. Burke, 70, a resident of Barnstable and Myrtle Beach, formerly of Natick, died Nov. 30, 2001, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach.
Born in Pelham, N.Y., Mr. Burke was an Air Force veteran, serving in the Korean War.
He was a retired regional sales manager in the Diagnostic Automotive Equipment Industry.
Mr. Burke was a professional golfer and had also been a golf pro at several courses in Massachusetts and South Carolina.
Surviving are four daughters, Kathleen Rogers of Milford, Amy McGrath of Centerville, Paula Gaucherin of West Roxbury and Maureen Robinson of Winter Springs, Fla.; and nine grandchildren.
A private family memorial service will be held in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at the convenience of the family.

Elsie B. Candito, 79

Centerville - Elsie B. (Smith) Candito, 79, a resident of Centerville, died dec. 2, 2001, in the Pavilion Nursing Home in Hyannis following a short illness.
She was the wife of the late Philip A. Candito.
Mrs. Candito was born in West Tisbury, raised and educated in Rockland, and lived for many years in Hingham. She moved to Centerville two years ago.
She worked at the Hingham Ammunition Deport during World War II and had been employed by Talbot's in Hingham until her retirement. An animal lover, Mrs. Candito also enjoyed knitting, puzzles, and coordinating family outings.
Surviving are three sons, James P. Candito of Bridgewater, Joseph A. Candito of Brockton and Paul W. Candito of Hyannis; a sister, Betty Landis of Hanson; and five grandchildren.
A funeral was held in the Sullivan Funeral Home in Hanover. Burial was in St. Paul's Cemetery in Hingham.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 923 Route 6A, Yarmouthport, MA 02175; or to All Paws Rescue, Rockland, MA 02370.

Edith A. Capra, 81

Hyannis - Edith A. Capra, 81, a resident of Hyannis and formerly of Westboro, died Dec. 2, 2001, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
She was the wife of the late Dr. Dante V. Capra.
Born in Everett, Mrs. Capra graduated from Everett High School and later attended Burrows Business School.
At different times, she worked as a bookkeeper at Jordan Marsh, a secretary-typist at Hardware Products Co., a teachers aide for the Westboro Public Schools and an occupational therapist assistant at Worcester State Hospital.
Surviving are four sons, Douglas of Seward, Alaska, Richard and Daniel, both of Hyannis, and Gerald of Southboro; a sister, Anne of Hyannis; four brothers, Victor of Haverhill, Anthony of Newton, Robert of Malden and Richard of Riverside, R.I.; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Brookline.
Burial was in Holyhood Cemetery there.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross.

Richard S. Gorman, 78

Centerville - Richard S. Gorman, 78, a former resident of Winchester and Belmont, died Nov. 30, 2001, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
He was the husband of Elinor (Murphy) Gorman.
Mr. Gorman was born in Haverhill and raised in Belmont.
He graduated from Belmont High School in 1941 and was class president. He served as a second lieutenant in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Mr. Gorman attended Babson College and graduated from Harvard University in 1947. A past commander of the Belmont American Legion Post, he was a sales representative for more than 45 years at Hedstrom Union Co. in Fitchburg before moving to Centerville in 1990.
Surviving besides his wife are a brother, Robert H. Gorman of New Jersey; two sisters, Patricia E. Franklin of New Jersey and Shirley Nestor of Andover; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held at South Congregational Church in Centerville. Burial followed at Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.

Robert Harris, 72

West Yarmouth - Robert Harris, 72, a resident of West Yarmouth, died Nov. 21, 2001, at the Pavilion Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Community after a long struggle with heart and lung disease.
He was the husband of Marilyn (Perkins) Harris for 25 years.
Mr. Harris was a 25-year resident of Cape Cod. Prior to moving to the Cape, he was a custom home and remodeling contractor in the Worcester area. Mr. Harris worked for the Lewis Bay Marina and at Town Paint in Hyannis for many years as the tool and hardware department manager.
Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Robert Harris Jr. of Oxford, Herbert Harris of Las Vegas, Nev., and Timothy Harris of Holden; two daughters, Florence DuBay of Fairfield, Maine, and Melissa Schmidth of Henderson, Nev.; two sisters, Helen Mitchell of South Thomaston, Maine, and Barbara Powell of Thelma, Ala.; five grandchildren; four stepchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering will be held 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 16 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Route 28, Hyannis.

John 'Jack' L. Jordan, 75

Centerville - John "Jack" L. Jordan, 75, a resident of Centerville, died Dec. 5, 2001, at his home after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Priscilla (Drew) Jordan for 52 years.
Born in Pawtucket, R.I., Mr. Jordan grew up in Chicago, Ill., before moving to Cape Cod in the 1930s.
He was a Navy veteran, serving in France and Japan in World War II.
Mr. Jordan attended the Wagner School of Art and started Jordan Sign Co. in Hyannis in 1947.
He was a member and past commander of the Dennis F. Thomas Post 2578 Veterans of Foreign Wars in Hyannis, and a "Key Man" of the Quiet Birdman as a licensed pilot for many years. He held a captain's license for his 40-foot ChrisCraft and traveled the inland waterway to Florida for several years.
Mr. Jordan recently hosted a benefit for "The Letterheads," a national sign organization.
Surviving besides his wife are three sons, John L. Jordan Jr. of San Mateo, Calif., Robert D. Jordan of Northampton and Peter Jordan of Osterville; a daughter, Judith Panico of Bel Air, Md.; and five grandchildren.
Funeral and burial were private.
