Robert D. Burd, 81

Marstons Mills - Robert Douglas Burd, 81, a resident of Marstons Mills, died Jan. 15, 2002, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
He was the husband of Shirlee (Gorder) Burd for 51 years.
Born in Johnstown, Pa., Mr. Burd served in the 13th Fighter Command of the Army Air Force in the Asia-Pacific theater during World War II.
He was a physicist for the Atomic Energy Commission in Albuquerque, N.M. He then had a career with Cutler Hammer Inc. in Milwaukee, Wis.
In semi-retirement, he worked for Hy-Line Custom Tours in Hyannis.
Mr. Burd was an amateur radio operator and member of the Barnstable Radio Club.
An avid sailor, he was a member of the Cat Boat Association and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Osterville Men's Club and the United Methodist Church in Osterville.
Surviving besides his wife are a sister, Betsy Burd of Greenwich, Conn.; a niece; and a nephew.
A memorial service was held at the United Methodist Church in Osterville.
Memorial donations may be made to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 1577 Falmouth Road, Centerville, MA 02632.

Alice Baker Como, 87

Centerville - Alice Baker Como, 87, a resident of Centerville and formerly of Osterville, died Jan. 10, 2002, at Cape Regency Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Centerville.
She was the wife of the late Walter Como and the late Erlton Baker. Mrs. Como was born, raised and educated in Somerville. She lived in Melrose for more than 15 years and was the owner of Baker's Antique & Gift Shop in Melrose for several years before moving to Osterville in 1976.
Mrs. Como was a member of the Order of Puritan Eastern Star, Winter Hill Baptist Church and Melrose Baptist Church. On the Cape, she became a member of the First Baptist Church of Hyannis, where she volunteered at the High Hopes Thrift Shop. She spent much of her time helping others.
Surviving are a daughter, Carole MacDonald of Centerville; a brother, James Wheeler of Hyannis; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother of Richard Baker, who died in 1998.
A memorial service will be held Jan. 26 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Hyannis.

Ann W. Curtin, 69

Cotuit - Ann W. (Parish) Curtin, 69, a resident of Cotuit and formerly of Marlboro and Sudbury, died Jan. 12, 2002, at Royal Megansett Nursing Home in North Falmouth.
She was the wife of Thomas J. Curtin.
Mrs. Curtin was born and educated in Worcester and graduated from Westboro State Hospital School of Nursing. She was a licensed practical nurse, working at Marlboro Hospital and Sudbury Pines Nursing Home in Sudbury.
A resident of Cape Cod for the past 20 years, she was a communicant of Christ the King Parish in Mashpee. Her passions in life were her family, including her grandchildren, her animals and the beach.
Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Brenda A. Curtin of Pascoag, R.I., and Susan M. Riggen of East Montpelier, Vt.; three sons, Craig T. Curtin of Centerville, James P. Curtin of Southampton and John P. Curtin of East Falmouth; a brother, Thomas Parish of Naples, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Christ the King Parish in Mashpee Commons.
Burial was in Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.
Memorial donations may be made to Bosler Humane Society, P.O. Box 12, Baldwinville, MA; or to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 1577 Falmouth Road, Centerville, MA 02632.

Nancy I. Field, 71

Cotuit - Nancy I. (Rogers) Field, 71, a resident of Cotuit, died Jan. 17, 2002, at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston.
She was the wife of Philip J. Field Sr. for 50 years.
Born in Santuit, Mrs. Field graduated from Barnstable High School.
She was a housekeeper for Mrs. Sinclair in Cotuit.
Mrs. Field loved cooking and having her family around her.
Surviving besides her husband are a son, Philip H. Field Jr. of Centerville; a brother, Charles D. Rogers of Marstons Mills; two granddaughters; two nieces; and a nephew.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in Christ the King Church in Mashpee.
Memorial donations may be made to the Cotuit Fire Department, 64 High St., Cotuit, MA 02635; or to the charity of one's choice.

Olinda Louise 'Goldie' Golding, 73

Centerville - Olinda Louise "Goldie" Golding, 73, a resident of Centerville, died Jan. 12, 2002, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis after a brief illness.
Born and raised in Waquoit, she graduated from Lawrence High School in Falmouth in 1948.
She was a member of the first graduating class of the Cape Cod Hospital Nursing Program in 1949 under the instruction of nurse Barton.
She moved to Hyannis in 1954, raising two children as a single mother and working full time at Cape Cod Hospital, where she served as a ambulance nurse and floor nurse. She remained employed at the hospital as a licensed practical nurse for 38 years, retiring in 1992.
Over the years, she continued to work in various areas of the hospital, including the recovery room and operating room. In her final years, she worked doing operating room bookings.
After moving to Centerville in 1988, she lived with her son and his family throughout her retirement years.
Her varied interests included shellfishing, listening to talk radio, crosswords, shopping, cooking, knitting and spending time with her family. She was a gifted artist and gave generously to many charities.
She is survived by a son, Ralph J. Golding of Centerville; a daughter, Barbara "Bunni" Christensen of South Yarmouth; two grandsons; a nephew; four nieces; and several other relatives.
A celebration of her life and memorial service was held at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home in Hyannis.
Memorial donations may be made to the C-O Volunteers, c/o C-O-MM Fire Department, 1875 Route 28, Centerville, MA 02632.

Carolyn Griffith, 87

Osterville - Carolyn (Clowe) Griffith, 87, a resident of Osterville, died Jan. 13, 2002, at Cape Regency Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Centerville.
She was the wife of Richard A. Griffith.
Born and raised in Schenectady, N.Y., Mrs. Griffith worked for many years as a visiting nurse and in nursing at the City Hospital in Schenectady. Mrs. Griffith concluded her career at the Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital in Schenectady, where she worked many years as supervisor in medical records.
Mrs. Griffith and her husband retired to New York City in 1978 and lived there until 1988, when they moved to Osterville. She had summered in Pocasset since her childhood.
She is survived by her husband.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Barnstable.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, Route 6A, Barnstable, MA 02630; or to the Osterville Public Library, 43 Wianno Ave., Osterville, MA 02655.

Charles J. Huber, 80

Centerville - Charles J. Huber, 80, a resident of Centerville, died Jan. 16, 2002, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
He was the husband of Anna (Maloney) Huber.
Born in New York City, Mr. Huber was a accounting manager for Esso Oil Corp. in New York City and Pelham, N.Y., for 31 years, retiring in 1981.
He also was employed as office manager for Jamaica Bus in Jamaica, N.Y., for 10 years.
A Centerville resident for the past 20 years, he was a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church and a member of the church's Men's Club.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a brother, Kenneth Huber of Vineland, N.J.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville, with burial in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery there.
