Ronald Bruce Squier, 55

Cotuit - Ronald Bruce Squier, 55, of Cotuit, died March 14, 2002, at the Greenery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hyannis, where he lived for a brief time.
Born in Orange, Calif., he was raised and educated in California and resided in Florida prior to moving to Cotuit 10 years ago.
A veteran of the Army, he served during Vietnam and later served in the Army Reserves. He was a member of several Vietnam veteran's organizations and associations.
Mr. Squier was a self-employed landscaper and worked at a variety of estates on Cape Cod since moving to Cape Cod. He retired in 1998 due to illness.
Survivors include his father, Richard Ray Squier of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; a sister, Linda A. Hurd of Lake Havasu City; four nieces and nephews; and seven great nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Memorial donations may be made to any organization benefiting Veterans.

Charles Edward Swain, 82

Hyannis - Charles Edward Swain, 82, a resident of Hyannis and formerly of Nantucket, died March 12, 2002, at his home.
He was the husband of Virginia M. (McAvoy) Swain for 53 years.
Born, raised and educated on Nantucket, he lived on Nantucket until moving to Hyannis eight years ago.
Mr. Swain was a self-employed painting contractor for more than 45 years prior to his retirement in 1990.
He served in the Air Force from 1941 to 1945, achieving the rank of sergeant.
Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Nancy Massa of California; a son, Jonathan Swain of California; two brothers, Andrew Swain of Savannah, Ga., and Nason Swain of Providence, R.I.; two sisters, Grace Hammond of Long Beach, Calif., and Gladys Brown of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 270 Communication Way, Hyannis, MA 02601.

Francis A. Walsh, 76

Centerville - Francis A. Walsh, 76, a resident of Centerville, died March 17, 2002, at Cape Regency Nursing Home in Centerville after a long illness.
He was the husband of Ruth (O'Neil) Walsh for 51 years.
Mr. Walsh was born and raised in Fall River and graduated from BMC Durfee High School in 1942. He moved to Centerville in 1955.
He was employed by the former New England Telephone Co. for 41 years until his retirement in 1985.
He was a member of Cummaquid Golf Club and the Hyannis Lodge of Elks and was a former member of the Hyannis Golf Club. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, Brian F. Walsh of Cumberland, Maine; two brothers, James E. Walsh of Danbury, Conn., and Daniel J. Walsh of Vero Beach, Fla.; two granddaughters; a nephew; and five nieces.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville, with burial in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in that village.

Theodore Whitney, 77

Barnstable - Theodore Whitney, 77, a resident of Barnstable, died March 13, 2002, at his home.
He was the husband of Alotta M. Whitney of Barnstable.
Mr. Whitney was born in Boston and worked at State Street Bank as an investment broker. He was a member of the Bond Club of Boston and a former president of the Boston Investment Club.
Mr. Whitney was a silver sponsor of Ducks Unlimited. He was also a veteran.
He was involved with Labrador retrievers, having one dog, Dandi, achieve field champion status in 1996.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Nathaniel Whitney of Norfolk and Theodore T. Whitney III of Yarmouthport; a brother, George W. Whitney of Centennial, Colo.; and six grandchildren.
Services will be held at a later date.

Luvern L. Borning, 88

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - Luvern L. Borning, 88, a resident of Hyannis, died March 25, 2002, at the Greenery Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center at Hyannis.
He was the husband of Bernice (Cordell) Borning of Hyannis and the late Ernestine (Redman) Borning.
Mr. Borning was born in Alexandria, Minn., and graduated from the Interlaken High School in New York and afterward took over the family beekeeping business due to his father's illness. He worked at the Seneca Army Depot during World War II and for many years, he worked for his brother-in-law at the Interlaken IGA store.
He moved to Hyannis in the late 1980s.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, Robert N. Borning of Myrtle Beach; two stepdaughters, Sue Eldridge of Centerville and Carley Silva of Port Charlotte, Fla.; six great-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Betty Buckley, 75

Centerville - Betty (Oldham) Buckley, 75, a resident of Centerville, died March 23, 2002, at her home.
She was the wife of James A. Buckley of Centerville. They celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on March 9.
Born, raised and educated in Hyde Cheshire, England, she immigrated to the United States in 1947 to Cape Cod.
She worked for the superintendent of the Barnstable public school system as his personal secretary for more than 20 years, retiring in the early 1980s.
Mrs. Buckley was a member of the Federated Church of Hyannis, and a member of the British Club on Cape Cod.
She loved travel and gardening, and took special pleasure and pride in her husband, children, family, friends and faith.
Surviving besides her husband are a son, Howard J. Buckley of Merritt Island, Fla.; a daughter, Susan H. Henny of Marstons Mills; two sisters, Joyce Burham of Hyde Cheshire and Eileen Repose of Centerville; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral was held at the Federated Church of Hyannis. Burial followed in Beechwood Cemetery in Centerville.

Phyllis L. Davis

East Freetown - Phyllis L. (Jacobsen) Davis, 52, a resident of East Freetown and a native of Hyannis, died March 26, 2002, at home after a long illness.
She was the wife of George A. Davis, Jr.
Born in Hyannis, she lived in Chatham and New Bedford before moving to East Freetown 24 years ago. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in New Bedford.
A graduate of Framingham State College, Mrs. Davis was a teacher at Apponequet High School for the past 16 years. She was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the National Teachers Association.
She enjoyed gardening and arts and crafts and was an avid reader.
Surviving besides her husband are her parents, Bernhard L. and Hazel (Webster) Jacobsen of Chatham; a daughter, Olivia J. Davis of East Freetown, a sister, Malvena J. Clark of Yarmouthport; and several nieces and nephews. .
A funeral was held in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in New Bedford, with burial in Pine Grove Cemetey there.

Abel C. Fernandes Sr., 85

West Barnstable - Abel C. Fernandes Sr., 85, a resident of West Barnstable, died March 24, 2002, at Cape Regency Nursing Home in Centerville.
Mr. Fernandes was born and raised in West Barnstable, where he lived all of his life.
After high school, he enlisted in the Army and served during World War II as a technician fifth grade in Company A, 45 Quartermasters Regiment.
He worked at Cape Cod Hospital for 32 years in the maintenance department.
An avid gardener, Mr. Fernandes also loved social events and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by a daughter, Ruth Boston of Waquoit; a brother, Manuel Fernandes of Wareham; two sisters, Agnes Lomba and Mary Roderick, both of Hyannis; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the father of the late Abel C. Fernandes Jr.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville, with burial following in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 270 Communication Way, Hyannis, MA 02601.

Harriet M. Hatch, 84

Hyannis - Harriet M. (Berry) Hatch, 84, a longtime resident of Hyannis, died March 25, 2002, at Cape Cod Hospital after a long illness.
She was the wife of the late Harold P. Hatch.
Mrs. Hatch was born, raised and educated in Bourne.
She lived in Onset for many years before moving to Hyannis. She became galley chef with her husband and served on several private yachts, traveling around U.S. coastal waters as well as abroad.
Mrs. Hatch later ran the Main Stay Snack Bar at the Osterville marina for many years.
She enjoyed gardening, knitting and her dogs.
Survivors include daughter, Ronan Gould of Potter Place, N.H.; two sisters, Frances Downing of Monument Beach and Barbara Harris of Florida; a granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews
Memorial donations may be made to Hyannis Firefighters Relief Association, 95 High School Road Ext., Hyannis, MA 02601.
