Chester A. Savery, 80

South Yarmouth - Chester A. Savery, 80, a resident of South Yarmouth, died unexpectedly April 1, 2002, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
He was the husband of Mary Ann (O'Neil) Savery.
Born and raised in Cotuit, Mr. Savery was a graduate of Barnstable High School.
He served with the Army during World War II and was discharged with the rank of sergeant.
Upon returning to Cape Cod, Mr. Savery was a builder from the late 1940s until his retirement in 1976. He moved from West Dennis to West Yarmouth in the late 1970s.
Mr. Savery was an active member and communicant at St. Pius X Church and Our Lady of the Highway, both in South Yarmouth. It was here he served as president of the former Holy Name Society, was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, and was CCD teacher for many years during the 1950s and 1960s.
He was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving besides his wife are four sons, George Savery of Poway, Calif., Michael Savery of Middleboro, Bernard W. Savery of South Yarmouth and John Savery of Beverly Hills, Fla.; five daughters, Sharon Richard of Portland, Maine, Ann Marie Savery of Hyannis, Sally Piester of Copake, N.Y., Rebecca Savery of West Yarmouth and Mary Ellen Bergonis of Reading; a brother, Edward Savery of West Barnstable; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also the father of the late James Patrick Savery.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Pius X Church in South Yarmouth.
Memorial donations may be made to the St. Pius X Catholic Education Center, 5 Barbara St., South Yarmouth, MA 02664.

Ronald Flight Scott

Cotuit - Ronald "Ron" Flight Scott, of Cotuit, died March 30, 2002, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
He was the husband of Dorothea H. (Kurd) Scott.
He was a resident of Belmont, Wellesley and Cotuit Bay Shores.
Mr. Scott graduated from Belmont High School and from Massachusetts Maritime Academy, seamanship and navigation.
His liberty ship was the first ship to land at Okinawa Beach during World War II. Mr. Scott was in the merchant marines. When applying for his captain's papers in Boston, he had the distinction of receiving the highest grade in the class. He held a master mariner captain's license.
Mr. Scott was an avid golfer at Framingham Country Club, Bass River Country Club and Neoiden Golf Course in Wellesley and Old Barnstable Golf Course.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, Dr. Ronald J. Scott of Sea Ranch Lakes, Fla.; a daughter, Karen J. Scott of New York City; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held April 19 at noon at John-Lawrence Funeral Home on Route 28 in Marstons Mills, preceded by visiting hours from 11 a.m. to noon.
Burial is in Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, Fort Lauderdale Chapter, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308.

John A. Stepnik, 87

Hyannis - John A. Stepnik, 87, a resident of Hyannis since 1995, died April 3, 2002, at Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Community-Pavilion.
Mr. Stepnik was born, raised and educated in Taunton. He served in the Army during World War II.
After the war, he lived in Louisville, Ky., and worked for Ford Motor Co. for more than 29 years as an assemblyman.
Mr. Stepnik later moved to Princeton, Ky., and lived there until 1995, when he moved to Hyannis.
He was a 50-year member of the Loyal Order of Moose 5 in Louisville and the American Legion in Kentucky.
Surviving are his daughter, Mary Sue Clifton of Louisville, Ky.; four sisters, Edna Jackman of East Dennis, Mary McLaughlin of Newport Beach, Calif., Sophie Sheehan of Miami, Fla., and Helen Naylor of Hyannis; a brother, Paul Stepnik of Hyannis; and a grandson.
A funeral was held at John-Lawrence Funeral Home in Marstons Mills.
Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery in Taunton.

Louis J. Strada, 56

Centerville - Louis J. Strada, 56, died April 6, 2002, at his home.
He was the husband of Carol (Doane) Strada of Centerville.
Mr. Strada was born in White Plains, N.Y. He graduated from Parsippany High School in New Jersey and served in the National Guard in New Jersey for 10 years.
Mr. Strada was terminal manager for Roadway Express for 14 years, distributor for Polar Beverage for 16 years, and at the time of his death, he was a merchandiser for the A&P in South Yarmouth.
Mr. Strada was a member of the Federated Church of Hyannis. He was also an avid sports fan and outdoorsman.
Surviving besides his wife are four sons, Michael F. Strada of Newton, N.J., Jeffrey J. Strada of Tempe, Ariz., Scott D. Dixon of Centerville and Steven W. Dixon of Marstons Mills; two daughters, Jamie Strada Holbrook of Dennisport and Susan F. Curran of Centerville; his mother, Mabel (Fretwell) Strada of Whippany, N.J.; a brother, Brian L. Strada of Whippany, N.J.; a sister, Brenda A. Thomas of Bedford, N.Y.; and six grandchildren.
A funeral was held in Federated Church of Hyannis, with burial in Beechwood Cemetery in Centerville.
Memorial donations may be made to Wequaquet Lake Yacht Club Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 399, Centerville, MA 02632.

Janet M. Beis, 67

Rutland, Vt. - Janet M. (Cross) Beis, 67, a resident of Rutland and formerly of Osterville, died unexpectedly June 19, 2002, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, N.H.
She was the wife of the late John T. Beis.
Born in Hyannis and raised in Osterville, she graduated from Barnstable High School in 1952 and Mount Ida College in Newton Centre in 1954.
She worked in Puerto Rico and New York until marrying and moving to Ashville, N.C., where she became a homemaker. After the death of her husband in 1965, she moved briefly to North Conway, N.H., until moving back to Osterville. She moved to Rutland three years ago.
She loved cats, and enjoyed horseback riding and skiing. Also an avid sports fan, she especially loved watching the Red Sox.
Mrs. Beis was a communicant of Our Lady of Assumption Church in Osterville, a member of its Women's Guild and a member of the Young Republicans Club,
Survivors include a daughter, Petra A. (Beis) O'Neill of Killington, Vt.; a brother, Richard A. Cross of Centerville; a sister, Nancy (Cross) Leghorn of Osterville; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Osterville, with burial following in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Centerville.
Memorial donations may be made to M.S.P.C.A., 1577 Falmouth Road, Centerville, MA 02632; or to the charity of one's choice.

Daniel N. Callahan, 72

Marstons Mills - Daniel N. Callahan, 72, a resident of Marstons Mills, died June 20, 2002, at his home.
He was the husband of Catherine (O'Connor) Callahan of Marstons Mills.
Born in Hartford, Conn., he was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He worked in the Bell System after his discharge and later became senior power engineer for Stromberg-Carlson Co., in Rochester, N.Y. He later went to work for New England Telephone, retiring from NYNEX in 1993.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Hyannis and Webster, N.Y. He was also a communicant and member of Holy Name Society of St. Francis Xavier Parish, the Cursillo Movement of Fall River and was a catechist in the R.C.I.A. process at St. Francis Xavier Church.
Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, Nicholas Callahan of Federal Way, Wash., and Daniel Callahan of Hockissen, Del.; two daughters, Noreen Littlefield of Marstons Mills and Rosemary Brockman of Pocatello, Idaho; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis.
Burial was in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Centerville.

James Frost, 57

Wareham - James Frost, 57, a resident of Wareham, died June 15. 2002, at Tobey Hospital after a long illness.
He was the husband of Betsy (Aldridge) Frost for 25 years.
Mr. Frost was born in Tewksbury and lived in Wareham most of his life.
He began his career 36 years ago as a police officer for the town of Wareham, then worked for the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department before being appointed as the chief court officer for Barnstable County. After retiring in February, he was appointed as a town constable for the town of Wareham.
He was a member of the Wareham Community Associates and the Massachusetts Chief Court Officer's Association and enjoyed golf, traveling and football. He was an avid New England Patriots fan.
Besides his wife, survivors include a daughter, Kirsten Conner of Lexington, Ky.; a son, Joshua Motta of Carthage, N.C.; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Todd A. Hapgood, 36

Cotuit - Todd Andrew Hapgood, 36, a resident of Cotuit, died of heart failure June 3, 2002, at his home.
Born in Boston, he was educated in the Concord schools and the University of Massachusetts, Boston, and Northeastern University.
He loved cooking and became a creative chef for upscale restaurants across the United States, including San Francisco, Albuquerque, Key West and the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
His specialty was fusion cuisine and tapas.
Mr. Hapgood spent the summer of 2001 in Thailand studying its culture, art and Thai cooking. Cooking, building computer systems, collecting semiprecious gemstones, playing chess and video games, listening to music, creating complex mathematically-based digital art and writing poetry were his life passions.
Survivors include his parents, Marilyn and Phil Knight of Concord, and William H. Hapgood of Bolton and Provincetown; a grandmother, Bernice Odell of Concord; a sister, Lindsey Knight of Lexington, S.C.; a brother, Scott Hapgood of Framingham; three uncles; two aunts; a great aunt; a niece; and numerous cousins.
A memorial gathering will be announced at a later date.
